Fries
Byron H.

Came up for a family event and they were having pizza. But sorry I do not like the pizza around here. So I told my wife that I was not hungry and had work to do at the hotel. Schoops is my go to place the smash burgers are fries are alway fresh and why not get it all down with a chocolate malt. The staff is always friendly and service is fast. I cannot say enough about this place. If you are in town you must try them out. And I did do some work at the hotel. I just really dislike the pizza around here.

A Very Well Run Burger Joint !!! I stopped at this Schoop's location in Highland for lunch. I was hungry and in the mood for a good burger. I had heard from many locals in the area that if wanted a good burger you should check out a Schoop's location. Schoop's has been around since 1948 and has franchises in Indiana and Illinois. On my visit to the Highland, Indiana location I was served by the owner. She helped me choose the homemade soup of the day to start, and walked me through ordering my delicious and filling burger and fries combo and a shake. The burger was fantastic, fresh with quality ingredients and toppings. The fries are hand-cut and crispy. The shake was very good as well. This was a very good lunch and I enjoyed my food and the history lesson from the owner. if you are in Indiana and looking for a great burger, give Schoop's a try.

Worst burger I ever had. My friend raved about it. So I finally caved and went to try one with him. 1st thing, the price. The burger cost more than any burger Ive eaten at any other fast food place. 2nd was the burger it's self. It was like they took a small ball of hamburger meat and flattened it paper thin to make it look big. Then they over cooked it, making it crispy and tasting like charcoal. I left there still hungry $15-20 dollars less in my wallet and angry. I'll never eat another smash burger as long as I live.

Bacon double cheeseburger
Miguel M.

I had such a lovely experience my first time at schoops today. I had the triple bacon cheeseburger and it was completely phenomenal and worth every cent. The patties were definitely fresh and all of the ingredients and probably the best bacon I've ever had on top of a burger (besides the $25 burger at Au cheval in chicago). My onion rings were so crispy and perfect. Even better was the conversation and sense of community. I sat and chatted with Lynette and her son for about an hour after I finished eating and every customer that came in chatted along with us like it was nothing. You cannot package that perfect of a place. That just comes with an excellent establishment with excellent food, and even better service with people who love what they do and love serving the best. Definitely check it out. I'm lactose intolerant but I hear you should also have a shake. Burgers are huuuuuge. Be warned -Miguel

I don't know what happened to this restaurant. The burgers were thin and way overcooked. I'm amazed they served food like this.

While the food is good, $16.34 for a bacon double cheeseburger and an order of fries. Seriously?

Absolutely love this throwback to the 50s and 60s ... a real live drive-in restaurant that still…read morehas carhops working the drive up sections under the awning. Now while you can also dine in at the limited seating inside, it is more fun to do it the old-fashioned way. BTW the carhops who work the drive up also work the dine in seating, and they were excellent ... always showing up just about when you needed something. Great service. The only hard thing here is ordering outside because one can't always see every part of the menu boards tacked up under the awning ... lucky enough, the carhops bring you the full menu. Food wise: we shared an order of Fried Mozzarella Sticks (4 star good, and they only needed just a bit longer frying to make the cheese inside creamy) and we shared an order of what they bill as the largest/best serving of fries in the world (another 4 star offering that was good, but barely fed two ... let alone being the "largest"). For mains: two of us had the Cruiser Burgers (both 5 star burgers), and the last in our party had the Blue Top Burger (4 star excellent with grilled onions). Just for fun, we also tried a Chicken Taco (3 star stuff, and not really their specialty). Our group had two shakes (5 star stuff here). As a drive-in, Blue Top also knows how to have some fun: they have live music outside from time to time, and they offer "cruiser nights" when customers can drive in their muscle cars and park in the attached lot. You just have to pass by every day and read the marquee outside to know what's going on that evening or weekend. The ambiance inside is true to its 50s roots with nostalgic pictures of car drivers and their machines all over the walls. All in all, this drive-in is true to its classic car roots. Open all year. Recommended.

We ordered the Black Bullet party pack which comes with two pounds of brisket and two large sides. We went with fries and beans, and also added ribs, mac and cheese, and buns to the order. The brisket is still the star of the show. The spice rub on it is perfect, and it's so tender that it's unreal. The fries are exactly the kind of battered fries I like which was a pleasant surprise because I feel like not many places do them that way. The beans were okay... a little sweeter than I personally prefer, but they had huge chunks of pork in them that I definitely appreciated. We also added two slabs of ribs, and they fell right off the bone. I'm usually not a huge ribs person, but these were well cooked and flavorful. Mom loved them, and that's what really matters. We did have a few small issues with the order. We realized that our mac and cheese was unfortunately missing when we got home. They also ran out of pretzel buns midway through packing things up, so we ended up with a mix of pretzel and brioche buns instead. Honestly, we didn't mind that one too much because it gave us a chance to try both (I'd pick pretzel if I were you). When we picked up the order the place was absolutely packed, so it was hard to be upset over an honest mistake. They were clearly incredibly busy. I still don't really care for the sweeter sauce that tastes heavily like peppers to me, but their vinegar-based sauce (which I think is their original?) was much better than I remember. I'm glad to see this place is still around and still holds up after all this time. More importantly, the brisket is every bit as good as I remembered.
