We were in the neighborhood and stopped by Byrd's after seeing all of the other wonderful Yelp reviews for this place. We went on a random afternoon, there were a couple of other guests there. Our order was taken right away, staff was friendly. We both ended up getting the tenders combo, which was very filling. At first, we wondering if two tenders would be filling enough - but these tenders are huge!! You can taste the difference in them as well, as they are Halal. You taste the freshness right away. Anyway, the tenders combo comes with two tenders, toast, a nice portion of potato salad, fries, a sauce, and pickles. Ranch is extra. Drinks are 99 cents! My brother's only complaint is that he doesn't like his food touching and would've liked that the potato salad not touch the fries mentioning that for my fellow picky people. Back to the food. The tenders were super crispy, spice level was really good. Fries were also really crispy and fresh. Mac and cheese portion was also very big, it can definitely be shared or even just an entree if you add a tender on it. This is a nice addition to the community, although it is a chain restaurant, the quality is very high. On a whim we tried the food here. I would definitely give them another shot again when looking for chicken. I had the wings and my wife had a strips basket. They were both pretty good. The breading in the wings was a little heavy and the sauce comes in the side. I appreciated the sauce on the side so the wings don't get soggy. $22 for 2 tenders, fries, potato salad, small drink & side of the fried green beans. My first time here - do not confuse this with Nashville Hot Chicken, as it's not the traditional flavor profile. It's good, but honestly the chicken tenders from Cane's are better!!! The 2 tender meal comes with fries (which rival Portillo's), a sauce they call 24K (a little bite to it), potato salad, the 2 tenders and you pick the heat...I chose "hot", and they are served on a thick slice of buttered Texas Toast (with a pickle on top of each tender). The issue I have is the to go order...since I got mine to go...the potato salad is thrown in the styrofoam container alongside the toast and fries - plus the potato salad was now warm. It may have tasted much better chilled and separated from everything else. The garlic toast could have been placed on top, but it wasn't so it was soggy and covered in potato salad. The tenders were okay - slightly on the small size for what I was paying ($12.99) for this combo meal. The drink was extra by the way - but I think it's only 99 cents. They have Pepsi products (and only Diet Pepsi) - no one carries the zero sugar soda anywhere?? The "Hot" level made me sweat a bit - and I can usually handle some hot stuff. But the real Nashville Hot Chicken isn't like this...so I don't think you should compare. Think of this as chicken tenders in various degrees of heat. And the chicken wasn't covered in a sauce or anything - it's like the breading contained the heat. I also tried the fried green beans. They are $6.99 and you get a TON of these. They were also okay. After eating a couple, I lost interest in them - nothing really WOWed me with these. I think they could have been thinner or crispier. They were fresh and very crunchy. Great temperature and spicy (mild level). They offer 3 levels of heat. Three adult appetites shared this taster and were satisfied. 2nd visit We spent $15 per 2/piece tender. One came with fries only plus the Texas toast. The other was served with the same plus potato salad which is the default for the tender order. It's two adult meals per order in my opinion. We spent about $15 for the sandwich combo (spiciest heat). The person who ordered it canceled the slaw and loved it. The potato salad is ok. I'm very cultured so wasn't expecting too much. Amazing fries but disappointing chicken. As this is one of 3 new hot chicken restaurants in the area I would put it's chicken in last place but it's fries in first place. I don't even like fries. I never order fries. I just got them for my kids but took a couple to try. The fries were some of the best I have had anywhere. Hot and crispy with a spicy dry seasoning. I would go back just for those. The chicken sandwich however was crispy but that's cause it was burnt. The whole sandwich had a burnt oil flavor which overtook and ruined it. Also the seasoning was not normal or spicy for Nashville hot chicken. Not that it's a big deal for all hot chicken to be the same. Maybe I just got a bad one this time? I think I would have liked the toppings and sauce better if the chicken wasn't burnt. It was hard to tell. I would try eating here again. It's worth stopping just for the fries. Second time was much faster, but there were only a few people there. The food is pretty good. You get a healthy portion of chicken and it has good flavor and definitely some kick, even for mild. The only criticism is there is a little too much breading on the chicken and it's too crispy. If you order a combo they put the cold potato salad in with the warm food which in turn makes the potato salad warm. Not ideal. The fries are fine. Will eat there periodically. I've been hearing a lot of positive things about this place. When I tell you this place is a gem, it's just that. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner, and I must say what an amazing guy! I initially had my food to go, but he encouraged me to stay and eat it fresh from the fryer and boy am I glad I did! Absolutely delicious!
