Holy moly! We came here extremely hungry and had to roll out the door from how stuffed we were! Also they had super cute Halloween decor out which I found super charming. We both ordered doubles with cheese, bacon, and jalapeños but I had mine stacked with toppings... and that burger was huge! Next time I'm definitely calming down on the toppings and getting a single haha. It was very delicious, but we barely got to touch the tasty curly fries because of how full we were. The curly fries are always super crisp so it was a shame that my stomach could not handle very many after the burger haha. I've already reviewed but I do frequent here and I must say that there's a waitress named Alivia and she is top notch. She's so friendly it blows my mind. I don't think I've ever ver seen her on an off day. Big bright smile and happy voice. The food here is delicious and the hubby and I are big fans of the burgers and fries. They must have changed the onions since my last review because they don't tear my stomach up anymore. They still have distancing in their dining room, every so many tables is blocked off. Which might be good (ha!) because a lady a few booths down is hacking up a lung right now. I'm glad I'm done eating because the sound is like nothing I've heard before. read more

The staff was nice. I had a turkey burger and it had a artificial filler taste to it and that is disgusting to me. The onion rings were OK, not as I remember them but OK. it seems they should invest better for the turkey burgers if they're gonna be a burger place and charge decent money for the food. I wouldn't mind paying more if the burger was a solid good burger without that processed back taste. I do not know what makes these restaurants consider that you don't have a pallet because you're eating an alternative meat source, oh boy. Every single one of these have been exceptional. From Portage to Griffith each and every one has went above and beyond. I will have to say this one is the absolute nicest one we have visited. The wonderful thing is the good, service, prices, and cleanliness are always the same no matter which one it is. But this one is "prettier" inside. Food is great, as always at all locations. Service could use a little work with the take out counter. I placed a take out order and asked if it would be ok to dine in instead, as my plans changed and could take a minute to eat lunch. I understand that if someone where to order ahead in a busy restaurant and then expect a seat, that would be rude... I took a look around at the empty place before asking if I could instead sit at the counter. The girl went on about how it's against policy and she would make this exception this one time only. Don't do me any favors, just be more pleasant on how you present your policy. Maybe a bit more professional or just nice. The whole thing kind of turned me off to the food, ended up eating just a few bites. In the parking lot. The place was empty. And she was really loud and rude, and kept talking about her hair to the other worker. I even tried to turn it into a positive because maybe she was having a bad day, but just kept talking to me like I shouldn't even be there. Just going to stay with the one in Munster. read more

There are a few Schoop's locations in NWI, not sure how the other ones are, but this one's great. Friendly service, super clean and the food is phenoms. I ordered their pork tenderloin on a bun for a 4:00 PM delivery. It came a little after 3:00PM, wasn't on a bun, it was on 2 pieces of hard toasted bread. They used to be really large tenderloins, but this one barely fit on the bread. I ended up removing the bread and just eating it alone. The onion rings were good as usual, but it would have been nice if the delivery had been anywhere near close to the time I requested so I wouldn't have had to nuke it to warm it up. I'll just know to not order that again - pretty disappointed. read more

A great place for a great hamburger! Good service too. The only complaints I have, typical of ALL Schoops is that the burger meals can be a bit pricy, $15 or more depending on the amount of meat patties. Also, they never seem to put enough tomatoes or onions on the hamburger, usually only one small slice of tomato. Listening Schoops? The quality of the meat has gone down. The last time I went to Schoops, there was so much gristle in my burger that I couldn't even eat half of it. I'm the type of person that gags when finding gristle in meat (which is why I don't eat sausage). I'll be going to other high quality, gristle-free burger joints from here on out. read more

Working only a few minutes away, I find myself frequenting Schoops at least once every other week. The staff is very friendly and attentive. You'll often find members of Schererville's Police and Fire grabbing lunch here so don't stop in if you're a wanted felon. ;-) If you're in the mood for a good hamburger, be sure to go in hungry; because their "Mickey" with everything, everything will leave you feeling full. As far as appetizers go, try their "Irish Nachos" although be warned: it's a heartattack in the making if you eat it alone - bring a friend to share it with! Every other Wednesday they make their "beefy mushroom soup;" it's got chucks of beef and sliced mushrooms in a thick beef broth (almost gravy) - but man, does it hit the spot! read more

I got a double with cheese, onion rings and fries just to make sure I had enough grease. Actually though, the fries were crispy as well as the rings. And the burger can't be beat. Thick, juicy and full of flavor. My favorite and still a classic. Meatheads and 5 guys should take a look at this place and modify their pricing and serving size. You don't get much more Midwestern than green river pop and green river shakes and malts. Those are what I enjoy most about this place, but their burgers and hot dogs are good, too. First time here and two things: 1) My server handled my burger and the toppings WITHOUT gloves after handling money and the POS system. Another order, she used gloves. As a nursing student familiar with microbiology, it needs to be EVERY TIME. The cheese literally is oozing off the sides because of the oil, and that is a trademark one enjoys when going here. This is hamburger heaven. My girlfriend was raised in this area and when I agreed to visit she insisted that we go to Schoop's one day for lunch. She swears by this place and claims that they have the best burgers around. Schoops did not disappoint. I kept it simple and ordered the "Mickey," a single patty with double cheese. Our visit was on Friday, December 23, 2005 around 4:30pm The hamburgers are large, and so are the servings of french fries, but the people are so mean. Someone was smoking a cigar in back of us in the no smoking section (Clearly Marked). We complained to the owner and she literally told us (me and my boyfriend both in our mid thirties) if we did not like it, we could go somewhere else!!! When I first sat down the waitress who was very informative and very polite told me how Schoops apparently has been ranked 10th best burger in the nation and I can see why. The burger was huge, crispy edges, fresh, fresh vegetables, and the sautéed onions were amazing. Huge proportions. Half order of curly fries and onion rings were overwhelming. And this is one of the best milkshakes I've had in a long time. Classic diner taste. Seems pricey and first glance but the proportions of food are well worth the buy. First time at this restaurant, and I'm focusing on the teamwork of staff. Hubby and I were at this location about 7:30pm on a Friday (8/11/17). The restaurant/washrooms were clean. Emphasis is made on the staff because I used to supervise a staff of 17 at a large downtown law firm and getting everyone to work together could be a challenge. Yet this group was friendly, respectful of each other and helped each other out. The young woman who greeted us, also handled the register and answered the incoming calls. She was perfect for the role as she was friendly and told all customers leaving to have a good night. Our waitress was attentive in making sure we were happy with our meal.
