We have been to Napa many times over the last 20 years. We have had Schramsberg many times but finally went and did a tasting. The experience was not great. Very transactional, it felt rushed and we ended early. Would not recommend as there are many others to try. I had very high hopes for Schramsberg as it was on my list for such a long time but I could never get a reservation so this time I made sure to plan way in advance. Sadly, it was a huge disappointment. I understand that things are expensive nowadays but we paid $340 (doesn't include tips) for a "Cave Tour & All Sparkling Tasting" for 4 people, and it was the worst tour and tasting I have ever experienced. The grounds are beautiful, and the cave is amazing but the tour and tasting felt SUPER rushed. We couldn't even enjoy the bubbly as the staff started to clean around us and letting us know that "they are closing in 30 minutes". Everyone else in our group just left without finishing their wine. We did as well as we felt uncomfortable (they opened the door to our "private" room so we could hear all the noise and see a long line of people at the register). I know it used to be an amazing winery before but sadly we didn't get to experience that. It felt like a factory without any personal touch. There are so many fabulous wineries around, and we are the repeat customers to many of them so I don't plan on coming back to Schramsberg. read more

This was a mixed experience for me. We did the cave tour in October 2024. This is very much a functioning vineyard- with forklifts and industrial equipment immediately adjacent to the lobby for the cave tour entrance. Mr. T was our guide and his presentation was delivered SO rapidly and felt so overly performative it was completely off-putting. My husband and I looked at each other in bewilderment before we had even made it through the lobby and into the cave. The tasting experience was at the end of the tour, and that's where things turned around. Mr. T dropped the script and once he was conversational, the entire experience shifted. The sparkling wines are quite good and we bought several bottles. Overall, I'd say the wines are great but the cave tour left a lot to be desired. read more

We visited this winery as the last group for the afternoon, our appointment was at 2:30 and a tour of the caves is part of your visit. The process they use to make bubbles is outstanding, so much care and attention to detail. Who knew vineyards still process wine by hand? The blanc de noir and the rosé were probably my favorites of the entire tasting. The champagne was so smooth, yes I know I can't technically call it champagne since it's not produced in France, but whatever. I digress, the sparkling wine here is absolutely fantastic! Did you know that every American president since Nixon has toasted with the Schramsberg wine?! How amazing, and after tasting it I know why. Fan for life! I've let way too much time pass without Yelping about the wonderful Schramsberg caves and sparkling wines. We've always loved Schramsberg sparkly's, and hung out in the Cellar Club for years before getting into the Riddler's Circle years ago, with access to absolutely fabulous older and late disgorged selections. We've joined and later left more wine clubs than I can remember, but Schramsberg is forever. It's so worth the ~3 year wait to join. A visit to Schramsberg is a delight, and we've returned multiple times, just to enjoy the caves. It is a bit of a treacherous drive up, the road has been a bit washed out, the recent fires didn't help any, and encountering a UPS truck on its way down as we were going up on the last trip is not something I would care to experience often. But once there, the visit makes it so worth while. Many Napa and Sonoma wineries boast of, and have tours of, their caves. We've visited many, and few, if any, come anywhere close to the charm and magic of Shramsberg's caves. The ancient hand dug sections, lined with walls of aging bottles, some sections 40 rows deep with floor to ceiling bottles. Having to mask up during the tour makes it less enjoyable, but hopefully these Covid days will pass soon, and the experience will be as fully enjoyable and memorable as it should be. read more

On our annual, "Ugh, Tom Brady is in the Super Bowl again", Napa trip we decided to stop by Schramsberg Vineyards as we really enjoy sparkling wines. The previous day we had been to Charles Krug so unbeknownst to us we just happened to visit Napa's 2 oldest vineyards, (Krug - 1861, Schramsberg - 1862). It was a bit of a chilly day when we were there but the tent that was set up outside was comfortable. Our host was spectacular. Perhaps because we were the only ones there at the time he let us try a few wines that weren't on our flight. Unforunately I don't remember his name but he was a tall Caucasian gentleman that was also a sommelier. He was a wealth of knowledge about wine and Schramsberg and Napa in general. Every wine we tried was great, but we ended up buying bottles of the 2008 Blanc de Blancs Late Disgorged and the J Davies Cab. I really wanted to pick up a bottle of the 2011 J Schram as well but between the tasting and the 2 bottles I'd already bought I think I gave Schramsberg enough for 1 day. Amazing staff and wines. Schramsberg is definitely not to be missed on a Napa trip. read more

the long winding road to get here after the schramsberg sign is only half a mile long. It was narrow but it had such nice scenery in the rain. There is a lot of parking near the visitor center. The owners have a german shepherd that wanders the grounds and lola the cat hangs out in the visitor center. the family that owns the place lives on the grounds. We were able to see them before our tour. When we checked in the lady who Signed us in was friendly. our tour guide was Mr. T. We started right on time. He gave us a little history and walked us through the cave educating us on how sparkling wine is made and stored. he was knowledgeable and Easy to talk to. He even offered to take pics for the people on the tour. After the cave we came back to the retail center to taste wine. There were five glasses and he talked about each wine while pouring each one. he then asked if anyone wanted to order anything. they don't usually give samples of the cremant but he let us taste it. it was sweet and creamy which was interesting. we bought a bottle of rose. I enjoyed the tour and have a new appreciation for the sparkling wine making process. my husband who doesn't usually like sparkling wines loved all of the wine. read more

Had a wonderful experience at Schramberg Vineyard! Our host was very attentive,informative and entertaining. Due to Covid wine tasting is outdoor with the socially distance table and hand sanitizer available throughout the vineyard. Unfortunately, their famous cave tour is temporarily closed. We had a excellent experience and we came home with a bottle of sparkling white wine and a bottle of Chardonnay. We had a terrific time with our host. He was very smart and friendly. Mr. "T" which made me laugh because I am an eighties kid. Not too much pressure to buy or sign up for clubs, although I did buy some bottles. I wanted to return later in the year for my friend's bachelor party but was told that Schramsberg will not book them nor will they book large parties. My wife and I LOVE Schramsberg sparkling wines. We feel their sparkling wines are easily among the best in California - neck and neck with Domaine Carneros. However, on a recent tasting visit last week (7/22/24) we were quite disappointed with the experience. The tasting took place at the entrance to one of the cellars and consisted of extremely and comparatively small samples of five or six of their sparkling wines. Large glasses and maybe 1.5 oz of each wine. Granted, we would never expect a full pour but at every other house we've visited - Domaine Carneros, Mumm, Chandon, Gloria Ferrer and Iron Horse - the tasting pours were far more substantial, generally 4 oz. In fact, at Domaine Carneros the staff was delighted to bring pours of wines that were not part of our tasting flight choice, and again the amounts were enough to truly appreciate the wine. And, the tasting itself at Schramsberg was rather short in length. Yes, our host explained the wines well, but the whole experience lasted maybe 40 minutes before being ushered into the retail area. For $135 we simply expected a better experience. It was genuinely disappointing. Maybe Schramsberg hosts better experiences, but I advise checking before committing your dollars. By comparison, at Domaine Carneros our tasting was $110. All was not lost as we did buy a few bottles of their amazing Blanc de Noir, which we cannot get at home. read more

What a gorgeous property! Are usually test bubbles with Lisa, however our most recent tasting experience with Michael. This is someone who always makes me feel very comfortable, remembers my name, asks me about my daughter, just a very professional hostess. Having never met Michael, I didn't know what to expect. He took us on a tour of the cave which was amazing of course. If you get the opportunity I highly recommend dipping into the cool dark cave on a hot nap a day. The amount of champagne waiting for you inside is tremendous! These pictures do not do it justice. Michael was funny, knowledgeable, and a very nice host. We enjoyed our time with him greatly. We had another great trip to Schramsberg. We visited the weekend of 9/20. Schramsberg is our favorite spot in the Valley for early morning bubbles and the cave your just adds to the experience. When we arrived we were greeted by our wine educator Jeff Connelly and could not have enjoyed him more! He truly was the start of a great last day in the valley, full of energy and knowledge. Just know if you land Jeff as your educator he will keep you on your toes will giving you as much knowledge as he can about Schramsberg, wine and food options in the valley, and other great spots around town! Our host, Tom, was very knowledgeable about the wines and caves! Overall 5 stars for the service, I had no idea it was going to a be a tour! We got super excited when the lady told us we would get a hosted tour in the caves, but then we realized we had to share the tour with 10 other random people!! :( It got a little cramped in the caves and I'm super short so I had to stand behind all these full sized adults and could barley see what Tom was showing the group! And a few times I had to say "excuse me, I can't see" and the drunk ladies in our tour group gave me mean glares.. We get to the tasting part, and all the wines were amazing!!! Unfortunately we had to share the 2nd half of the tasting with the other groups again, this table barely fit 12, but they did it. I really wish they would've told us we would be SHARING a tour and tasting with 3 other groups.. My boyfriend and I thought it was going to be an intimate sparkiling wine experience and it just wasn't that.. Although we had an amazing experience, we tend to prefer smaller grouped, and more intimate experiences when we go wine tasting! I would recommend this winery for a large group that way you won't have to share the experience with strangers! (Unless your into that type of thing!) read more

Just visited and did the cave experience and bubbles tour. We were to have an hour and 15 minute tour and 6 bubbles tasting. We were done and in the retail store in 45 minutes!!! Felt extremely rushed and disappointed as this was the one we were looking forward to the most!! Additionally we stood the whole time (no seating), and did not have time to finish each tasting before the next was poured. And no water! We had 2 people in our group join the wine club (bc they liked the wine beforehand) and still they did not waive any tasting fees or offer any discount. While the history of the property is amazing 5 out of 5 would not recommend or come back! They definitely lost additional sales. read more

I learned a ton about champagne and sparkling wines, and also have a new appreciation for O.G. Veuve Cliquot. Won't share all the fun spoilers here, but go taste the bubbles deemed worthy of the White House! Atmospheric cave tasting, very unique and romantic. Grounds adjacent to the Bothe-Napa state park and add to the charm. Be warned, be prompt or be left behind! As someone who read the confirmation email and arrived prior to the start of the tour as requested, it is kind of frustrating when the guides have to circle back to catch latecomers up. Don't be that guy! Also can't scold too much because we definitely semi-accidentally were caught walking through a private residence garden trying to get to the main entrance. The winery is past the grand residential home, FYI! Retail staff were not the friendliest. Reservations required, easy to make online on their website, but book early as they were selling out even on the off season! Tour is $70, includes tasting of 4 sparkling (2 blanc de blanc & 2 blanc de noir styles, 1 Cabernet Sauvignon). Find out if you like Chardonnay or Pinot Noir based sparkles! I am not a huge wine lover but I am a huge bubble lover. And this is the place to go for either. Or even if you don't drink it is still a super cool tour. You get to go into the the caves and hear all the history of Schramsberg and how they make their products. It was super cool. We did the top tier tasting and had some wonderful sips. I especially love their brut rosè--simply delicious. A fun tour and a nice refreshing tour that is something different than all the others. A must! read more

Bucket list - check I'm glad we made it here on my most recent trip to Napa valley...I needed to check out Schramsburg...I needed to do the cave tour...even at $70 ...yup ...had to do it.. we arrived in the nick of time for our tour (got a bit delayed at Chandon).... we arrived for our appointment as they were introducing themselves... We called ahead and told them that we were running late...they guided us from the parking lot to where we needed to be. the tour started...it was very informative...loved the caves! ...enjoyed the tasting thoroughly...the only complaint i have is that the tour guide was quite scripted and when asked questions about the topic on hand, he wasn't knowledgeable enough to answer them. That really bummed me out. I would think that your tour guides should know more. that's all... still love the sparkling here! loved the caves loved the info i did get... i took my questions to Chandon and they were able to answer them =) read more

Schramsberg is a sparkling winery in northern Napa. Since it's the pandemic, you need to reserve your tastings beforehand and provide credit card information as a deposit. The tasting was done outdoors, under a tent, on tables that were amply distanced in order to meet CDC guidelines. The host was gracious and amusing and kept us entertained. Since our tasting consisted of sparkling wines, we were given 5 tastings of different wines. The tasting started with the lightest and went progressively darker and more complex. We were given plenty of time to relax and enjoy our drinks. It was a pleasant experience and I would definitely recommend trying Schramsberg. read more

This is our favorite wineries in Napa Valley! We love sparkling wines, so this was our first stop whenever we're in town. We've been club members for a few years now and we love coming back to visit at least once or twice a year. The venue is really beautiful and ethereal. They used to do wine tasting with the tour of the wine cave, which was such an awesome experience. Now because of COVID, they're only doing outdoor tastings, but it's ok for us since we just love coming here. If you love sparkling wines, this is a MUST stop in Napa Valley and definitely the best one for it. read more
