A hidden GEM. I got an unexpected/very painful back spasm, saw the yelp reviews and called them. Lilly was very personable on the phone and given the pain I was in, had me go in right away. Elan Schrier is a peaceful, yet strong personality who clearly knows his trade. He explained the problem, took measurements (I'm talking top-of-line X-rays, infrared, etc) and used that information to adjust my back gently and effectively. Since then Ive been back about four times, and have noticed major changes in my balance, posture, and energy levels. Being a working mom of small kiddos, this last one was invaluable. They even has a kid-friendly section, so we brought the kids in. They got gentle adjustments too (while I was chilling in their "relaxation room", in a zero-gravity chair and spa-like environment). First of all I am a retired Director of Nursing. No where in my training or experience was there any mention of chiropractic care. That's a shame because it should be a part of your medical care. I had the steroid shots, epidurals etc etc. I am not kidding when I tell you I went to see him one day on a friends recommendation and literally walked out pain free. No kidding. Caring. Careful. Comfortable. EFFECTIVE. I went to Dr Schrier for severe sciatica. It was so bad that sometimes I couldn't put my left foot down due to the shooting pain. Couldn't sleep well or drive comfortably either due to random pain as I moved. Now after the series of visits Dr S recommended, the sciatica is GONE. A good friend of mine who had been in a serious auto accident the previous year and had suffered with debilitating pain told me about a special kind of chiropractor, NUCCA that helped him recover who did not pull, crack or twist his body in order to make a change in his condition. At the time I lived in Tulsa and went to see a doctor there. When I moved to Florida My condition returned. Have you ever looked into NUCCA for chiropractic? I started going a year+ ago. I was in agony. When I got there I told Dr. Schrier I had Fibromyalgia and was going to be in pain for the rest of my life. He said, "Well let's just see what's going on." I was to the point where I couldn't walk all the way thru the grocery store, and a few times when I finally made it up to security at Panthers games the person taking tickets asked me if I wanted a wheelchair to get to my seat (I guess I looked really bad!). Anyway, my brother suggested a chiro who practiced NUCCA. He explained, "He does not crack anything. He concentrates only on your neck (upper cervical), and it isn't cracking, it's just a gentle manipulation to realign your neck vertebrae." The simplistic explanation is all nerve endings of the spine (which controls your whole body) meet in your neck. They travel thru your neck to get to your brain to let your brain know about anything the rest of your body is experiencing. IF the path to your brain is blocked for any reason your brain has no idea you are experiencing pain. The theory is: the brain will heal the body, if it knows about the pain. These docs manipulate the vertebrae in your neck to open the communication pathways and then your brain is like, "HOLY SH*T! She is in pain!! Let me send fixing neurons (or whatever the brain sends to fix stuff.)" Obviously it's waaaay more medically complex than my simple explanation. When I started, I was in agony. I saw Dr. Schrier twice that first week and when I came back the following week I was in easily 50% less pain. I could NOT believe it!! And each week I continued to get better and better. I was able to tone down my carpal tunnel (diagnosed). I also made several changes to my work station switching to equipment better suited to protecting my wrist, and my knees and lower back issues eased up so I could walk again! I still do have some pain (certain areas), but I can now grocery shop (or other long-walking adventures) and I get to Panthers games, etc. no problem. I was never diagnosed with Fibromyalgia (never went to a doc), so I don't know if that's what I was experiencing. I just know Dr. Schrier basically saved my quality of life. Dr. Schrier is in Delray. My first visit was free. It's like a dual interview. See if you like him and if he thinks he can help. If so, it's like $300 and he does a bunch of X-rays and when you come back he discusses what he found, sets up a treatment plan, and you decide if you're interested in that course of action. It's definitely NOT cheap, and he wasn't on my insurance, so I paid out of pocket...but I don't cry at Publix anymore, so to me it was definitely worth it! read more
