I had dealings with this breeder & they weren't good. He advertises a full health guarantee & doesn't stand behind it. At that time he advertised the puppies were microchipped & they weren't (he no longer advertises microchipping). He also falsely advertised being a member of the ARC which he wasn't, they made him remove their logo from his website. He doesn't have litters checked by a Vet by 6 weeks of age as required by NYS AG & Mkts Law.
When I got to his place to look at the litter he suddenly claimed he had lost 1/2 the litter to pneumonia. Whether this was true or he had sequestered 1/2 the litter off site is unknown. He changes the price he quotes originally trying to hit you up for more money.
My dog has 2 major heart problems, hip & elbow dysplasia, has had seizures, retained testicle, his eyes have crossed, and an incorrect bite. I provided all of the necessary documentation from my Vet on the problems. He never contacted other people who bought puppies from that litter about the heart problems. I had to take him to small claims court after trying for a year to get him to stand behind the full health guarantee. I won in the small claims court. Two other people who bought dogs from that same litter also had health problems & ran in to the same run around I did trying to get him to stand behind his full health guarantee. He advertised breeding the bitch again & he planned on continuing to breed her until another puppy demonstrated physical heart problems. Of course all dogs from that litter or any other litters were carriers for numerous genetic health defects. The bitch suddenly disappeared off his website where she is, is unknown.
Two people who bought puppies a week or so later from the same litter as mine said their puppies were hand shy. My puppy was not but I also got him out of there earlier than theirs. I observed a lack of interaction by him with the puppies. The puppies were up on wire the day I saw the litter. They all stunk of urine and had a black raised rash (which he didn't know & I pointed it out to him). My Vet diagnosed it as urine scald.
In my opinion, he is a high priced puppy mill & he doesn't care about the dogs, he's only interested in the money he makes on them. From what I observed he picks his "show puppies" by size. In my opinion, he knows nothing about conformation. He breeds for high drive dogs & sells to anyone. If you contact him about the problems he gets nasty & threatening.
When I purchased my puppy his dogs lived in small kennels & crates. I was sent pictures of his filthy kennels that were constructed in his basement after I had purchased my puppy. They were wet, nasty & not a place where a dog should be kept. He posted pictures of his outside runs trying to demonstrate how clean they were. They were still being built & hadn't been used.
After I purchased my puppy I found out that his gated community didn't allow him to do business there. He was only allowed to have 4 dogs in his Township - he had many more which were not licensed. He went to the Town Planning Board to get a variance for the kennel so he could have more dogs than the town allowed. The Planning Board said he would have to redo his plans because the set backs weren't acceptable. The next month he withdrew his application, continued to add dogs & do business as usual. He threatened the town with a harassment suit when they told him he had to license his dogs & they had to have current Rabies Vaccines as required by NYS law.
He used to have his kennel on Black Forest Rd. in Glen Spey NY. That place conveniently burnt down. I was told that he just happen to leave a pan on the stove while he used his computer. He lost 6 dogs in the fire which he still has listed on his website. He did manage to save the computer because the next day the ticker tape across the top of his website changed.
Because of the number of dogs he was selling (he had 9 litters in 2 years) he was supposed to be licensed as a pet dealer. NYS Ag. & Mkts did a kennel inspection (they termed it an "educational visit"). He had a full page of deficiencies which he refused to correct. (This information is from FOIL requests & direct conversations with NYS Ag & Mkts). Unfortunately AG & Mkts didn't do their job. They gave him a form that said if he didn't sell over a certain number of dogs born on his property he wouldn't have to be licensed. He signed it thus getting out of the licensing requirements.
By NYS Tax law he is required to charge sales tax on any dogs he sells - he doesn't.
I know several other people that purchased dogs from him from other breedings. They all had hip dysplasia and health problems. Again he didn't stand behind the full health guarantee.
In my opinion, "BUYER BEWARE" - I wouldn't buy a dog from him. If I could rate him less than (1), I would. In my opinion he's the type of breeder that gives good breeders bad names.
