Quite frankly, I paid an exorbitant amount for an updo that lasted less than 2 hours. This salon was a joke with everyone playing part of the team and money going out to each " team player." I should have walked out after my hair was washed! The girl had no clue how to work with my hair nor for that matter my daughter's. After getting a coupon in the mail, I decided to try this place. It's a small salon, but don't let that fool you -- their stylists are talented! I came in for a blow out with loose curls and Dia did not disappoint. She was super friendly and made me feel comfortable from the very beginning. She took careful attention from start to finish (literally from the amount of conditioner my hair was washed with to the tiniest curl). I started with hair about mid neck length and left with lush, full, thick, long hair down my back!!!!!! Dia Dilapia, the owner, created this beautiful hair using extensions !!! I was so thrilled to feel all this natural hair and I felt so young! So many people told me how much younger i looked!!! My husband loved it!!!! Dia is such a creative and talented professional. I literally just got a cut and blow and it was 80$. But that wasn't the problem, I asked for curtain bangs and I specifically showed a picture and asked for them right at my chin and below it and she cut them so short that it's at my cheek like I asked for one specific thing they had one job and the girl Alex couldn't even do what I asked EVEN AFTER SHOWING A PICTURE. I was just there yesterday on a Groupon for a body scrub and it was great. I realized on Wednesday night that I had double booked my Friday afternoon and they permitted me to come in earlier than my appointment. Instead of being annoyed (as you get very often around here) the staff was courteous, understanding and accommodating. Angela the aesthetician was great. I'm going to go ahead and give Scissors 5 stars. Why? Because this is the only place that has been able to make my hair manageable and look amazing for the past 6 years. Consistently amazing throughout my style changes. Eileen is the best, and the only stylist I've ever gone to. She's put up with my ridiculous hair from when I asked her to give me a "trendy mullet", when I asked her to bleach underneath my hair platinum blonde and do the rest black, she has dyed my hair many a ridiculous color, and over the past two years I have been growing out my hair so that it is natural and no longer dyed. I went here on Christmas-Eve this year, I asked for a haircut from here for a present. I hadn't seen Eileen in a while but she remembered me and everyone was still so awesome and nice. I was afraid about losing inches, but my hair was so damaged by split ends she had to take off about 3 -4, yet my hair still looked amazing. They also have great products that I haven't seen anywhere else that I usually always get, and continue to use to this day. I was introduced to Scissors by my step-mother, who has been going to eileen for years. So has her mother, her sister, her niece, and who knows how else. This place is just plain fantastic, and I love it so much that even though I live in Philadelphia I will not let anyone here touch my hair, I will hold out for when I make trips back home to Long Island. read more

Everything was great. First, the receptionist, Marta, was super friendly and accommodating. I was offered a $5 manicure because I had to wait a little bit (which I didn't even care about in the first place because I called to come in literally a half hour before). Gina did my manicure and she was so nice, friendly and did an amazing job. Then, Dia did my hair. She is the owner. She did exactly what I wanted, and was so nice to me and accommodating. She gave me an amazing blowout at the end. My color came out fabulous too! They did an amazing job, and guess what? I WASN'T OVERCHARGED. This is the first salon I've been to that I was actually happy with what they did and I didn't feel guilty at the end for the price. The salon was neat, clean, and decorated nicely. I was looking for a new salon to try out and after checking out all the reviews on salons in the area, decided to try Scissors. I was in the process of growing out some layers, so my hair had some pretty awkward pieces (hence me trying to find a place to help in the growing out process) and decided to splurge and get some color too. Before my actual appointment, I had gone in for a consultation, and the stylist assured me that he would be able to blend my hair so that the growing in pieces didn't stand out as much. (He also spent a whole lot of time talking himself up, about how much experience he has and how he has clients who drive in from Pennsylvania to see him.... maybe that should have been a red flag.) We also discussed color and I decided on a semi-permanent color which is what I've always done at home (successfully) because I try to stay away from as many harsh chemicals as possible. The day of my appointment, I got the color done first, which was nice but only lasted a few days (and didn't look very different from when I do it). Now, I know that semi-permanent color fades as you wash your hair, but when I do my own color, it lasts at least 2 weeks. So, to spend the amount of money I did and having it last a few days only versus using a box color was definitely not worth it. Also, as the stylist was coloring my hair, he made pretty rude comments. He made a big deal about the grey hairs I had (and I don't have much)- "whoa, there's a grey patch right there!"....really loud and obnoxious, it just didn't seem to be appropriate and certainly as a first time customer, made me feel kind of stupid. What am I supposed to say to a comment like that? Then he commented on "my" color job saying "yeah, the color you chose is all flat"....blah, blah, blah... Then came the cut. My hair was very long with some layers growing in. You know, that weird, awkward stage. I knew I'd have to sacrifice some length in order to blend the layers more and I gave the stylist the freedom to do what he wanted to get the look I was hoping for. He sliced some pieces from around my face, big six inch chunks....which got me worried, but I took a breath and tried to ignore the slabs of hair he was throwing onto the floor. When I got out to my car, the weird layers I had were still there (not even trimmed to get rid of the damaged ends and make sure the length was the same.....I mean, if you're going to slice off six inches of hair, cutting a half centimenter from the damaged parts shouldn't be something I'd have to request) except now my long hair was much shorter and didn't blend in with the short layers at all! It looked totally worse than when I went in! But, the thing that made me decide to never go back was when I was sitting in the chair getting my hair chopped, a woman (she was sitting at the receptionist desk when I got in, so I don't know if it was the receptionist or a stylist) comes over to my chair, looks at my hair and say's "What happened here? Did you do this to yourself??" Wow, that's kind of nervy! Who exactly are you? Did I ask your opinion? I felt like saying "Not that it's any of YOUR business, but no, I didn't "do this" to myself, I've been patiently waiting six months to try to grow some layers out and they're in a crappy phase right now, thank you very much for pointing that out!" I'd think most people go to a salon to feel BETTER about themselves, not to have every flaw pointed out and ridiculed (and believe me, I'm NOT an overly sensitive person who gets all hurt when someone makes a snide comment)- I ended up feeling like crap and then had to worry about growing out the mess of a haircut that I got from the "pro". Never again! And Ms. Receptionist....stick to your job and keep your opinions to yourself. read more

Bought a Groupon for haircut and single process for my daughter and was told blow drying was not included in the price and was $25 additional. Since was late at night, didn't really matter, so I opted no blow dry for her. Later they try to scam by saying her hair has some gradient colors and in order to do single process they would have to bleach it then color for additional $25. Basically bunch of BS just wanting more $. Single process is just single process over existing color. Since they knew was for my daughter and saw the disappointment on her face, that they could get away with nonsense like that, and they did. This is for her birthday and I didn't have the heart to disappoint. I watched them color and knowing I just been had. At the end the hair stylist feeling guilt stated she would blow dry for free. I told her no need. Overall I would not return to this place knowing they use groupon to get you in the door but would not honor the services intended without seeking for additional $$. read more

I think DIA might be losing her flare! After seeing mostly 5 star reviews I went to her for a corrective color and cut! TWICE! I wasn't attempting a 3rd. I asked for a refund and first was told no problem, 30 minutes later was then told i would only be refunded half!! unprofessional with an unhappy customer. read more

I just got out of this salon. and my experience has been so pleasant in so many ways. I had my hair cut by Dia. she is so friendly and highly professional. her work is fantastic. loved my hair cut. She is also very fast! She happens to be the owner of the salon. she pays attention to alll details and to all customers. i felt very welcome. i also had my mani and pedi by Diana. she is also great. very friendly and just amazing. loved her work. even the front desk lady was great and nice. the salon is very clean and all amenities were clean and tidy. inspent 2 hours for everything. waiting time was less than 5 min. they even squeezed me in earlier than ny pedi. the pedi recliners are massage-equipped which made my experience very relaxing. i loved my experience entirely and will definitely be returning to this place. read more

I've been wanting to cut my hair short for a while now, so I took to Yelp to find a salon with great reviews. After seeing all the positive reviews from other Yelper's I thought I'd give scissors a go. I called on a whim to make an appointment, and they were able to take me same day. I got an appointment with Dia, and she was so friendly! I told her I wanted to take about 10 inches off, and donate my hair. She was very receptive of my vision of how I wanted my hair cut. Dia made great conversation, she was incredibly personable! I am so immensely happy with the finished product. In the end, she ended up taking about 12 inches off, and I plan to donate to Children With Hair Loss. I also got a manicure by Gina! Gina is so sweet, and great at what she does. I felt so welcomed by everyone! This salon has an array of services, from hair removal, to permanent makeup, to facials and massages. Fresh transplant to Long Island from Westchester I was desprate for a salon for a cut and color. My bf suggested this salon as his father has gone for years for cuts. From start to finish i had a top notch experience! The staff were all warm and welcoming. Chris did my highlights/cut. She is detailed, attentive and truely knows her craft. The toping on the whole experience was how she (and a few other staff)treated an elderly client who was having a small spell with dementia. They treated her with dignity and class. so I am looking at the reviews below and I am in shock. I think this salon only knows to comb old ladies hair. I brought my 16 year old daughter that has very long hair to do a trial for her sweet 16. on the phone they said it would be 85 but then they charged us 100. the hair dresser was nice but honestly did not know how to handle long hair. she did an awful job. she was making curls with a curling iron which had already disappeared by the time we stepped outside. I asked if the curls will last . she never answered me. of course we never went back. maybe there ae other stylists that know to handle long hair. They should have given us one of them. read more
