I have tiny little bangs and then lots of choppy layers. Most salons are stocked full of beauticians who are programmed to only give you the typical soccer mom cut. I've passed by Scissors many times. Finally, after seeing a Groupon, I made my first appointment, which was one of the best decisions I've ever made. It's a beautiful, spacious salon with a very friendly staff. I'm writing this review after my second visit. My first haircut was with Chris (Christina), who did a fantastic job, and the second was with Pat (who did a fantastic job as well). Overall, I've been searching for a place where I can a haircut without paying ridiculous prices. A men's haircut is $26, which is the cheapest I've seen on Long Island in a long, long time. I just had surgery on my leg a couple of days ago and can't take a full shower for a month. I badly needed my hair to be washed and called this salon to see how much a blowout would be (since I figured that's the only way I can get my hair washed). Well, the girl on the phone put me on hold and after speaking to the owner (Dia), I was told I can come in and they would wash my hair no problem and no fee! I've never had a place that gives to people itself rather than worrying about making money for their business. Because she was so generous in this, she now gained a new customer! Annette is my GO TO for laser and facial treatments! I had never tried laser prior to going to Scissors and I have now gone back multiple times. I don't get my haircut very often but when I do I go to the same person that I've been going to for the last 10 years so today was a brand new experience for me. Needless to say I was a little nervous but the salon was very clean, the receptionist was very friendly. Absolutely sensational! I've never had such a pleasant experience at a salon before. The atmosphere is friendly and professional. Everyone there really seems to know what they're doing. I drastically changed my hair from very long to a very short spiky mohawk-like look. I couldn't have asked for a better stylist. Nicole did my hair, and she was amazing. She was super chill and relaxed but still very professional. We talked about how I wanted my hair done, she understood, did it, showed me how she was doing it, and gave me tips about how to style my new hair. I'm always changing my hair color because I get bored with having the same look for too long and I enjoy trying a new haircut whenever I try to keep up with whats in style. The problem is I've been to way too many high end salons that claim they are the best and I have paid through the nose only to be disappointed with my the end result. Most places do not listen to what you say you want. If you ask for a light trim, they chop off two inches and then say you needed it. Or when you pay extra for a blowout you end up walking out with a bird's nest on your head. A lot of salons are only used to cutting and styling one type of hair when every one of us have a different type. I am very pleased to say that Scissors surprised me in that I actually walked out extremely happy with my new look. The stylist listen to me and what I wanted. I showed her pictures and she explained to me the difference between each hair style I wanted. I asked for the Zooey DeChanel look which ultimately is a strong bang but it is not straight across as the Chinese bang look. She took her time and made sure that she gave me the cut that would fit my hair type appropriately and I finally got a "light" trim so I didn't loose any real length to my hair. This is the first salon that was able to do a correct blow out on my hair and they got it pin straight without using a flat iron. This has never happened to me before, other hair salons will blow my hair out leaving me with an afro and then they would go over it with a flat iron to try and smooth it out which ultimately leaves my hair looking fried and frizzy (trust me it always looks like I just stick my finger in an electric outlet). This time I got a new sleek and sexy look that is age appropriate and very fashion forward. After I received such a great hair cut, the makeup artist came over and explain to me what make up I should use and how to apply the same to compliant my new hairstyle. She explained that now that I have bangs I would need to use my eyeliner differently in order to make my eyes pop and well has highlight my cheek bones. I asked her a million questions about makeup productions as well as skincare and she gladly gave me a lot of helpful advice. I could continue writing because I had such a great experience but what I can say is that Scissors is a great salon. It is affordable and you are getting more bang for your buck because the people there want to make you happy and see you come back. Its well worth it too. Since my visit I have gotten many compliments and I couldn't be more happy. It feels good to feel sexy, sassy and overall confident. I can't wait to go back there and get my nails done, maybe some spa pampering and trying some hair extensions! What can I say I'm a girl that knows what she wants :) read more

I followed the new owner, Dia to Scissors from her previous salon. I absolutely love her. She is an artist. I tell her vaguely what I want and she makes something sensational with it. Although I was disappointed that she moved to Syosset, since it is sort of a hike for me, I'm going to continue going there. I've never been so happy with my hair (and it's easy, too!). The staff at Scissors is friendly and accommodating. They are also very good at scheduling me in for last minute appointments ("I just found out I have time this evening to get my hair done, you wouldn't be any chance be able to fit me in?" -- "yes" -- it is always "yes".) I had the best hair-cut of my life with Lindsie!! I'm so pleased with how much she LISTENED to what I wanted because I've been wanting this haircut for a long time but every hair stylist I've had refuses to hear me and does what they want instead. First off let me say I never get my hair done. I always get upset and cry with the outcome whether it's a cut or a style. I saw all these reviews and everyone said to go to Dia. So I did. She was running behind so had a stylist start my hair. Which really pissed me off because of the way I am about my hair. I don't like just anyone touching it. If about 15 people didnt recommend her I would have went somewhere else closer. My appointment was at 330. The stylist took me at 330. Started the curls. I just wanted curls and a pretty simple braid. This whole process took about 3 hours and I was charged 80$ which to me is ridiculous. mainly because of the time. (I know being a girl is pricey) I ended up just watching how they did my hair and looked at.the iron they used and going to save a shit load of time AND money and do it myself next time. So my advice. Dont go to dia when she just comes back from vacation and is on jet lag. And if its your first appointment at scissors you might want to pick a hairdresser who has less going on and can actually attend to you. read more

After a not so great experience a few years ago, Dia is my go to person for cutting my hair and doing anything new to it. I'm someone who is hesitant and somewhat anxious when it comes to my hair. She is calm and takes time to listen to your concerns. I am super picky and I trust Dia. I love my hair cuts and my new balayage color by Dia. After recently moving to Long Island and having a very bad experience with a stylist in the Northport area, I approached Scissors based on a recommendation from a friend. When I sat down in Dia's chair, the blonde highlights I'd had forever had been turned to a horrific shade of orange. I'm not exaggerating when I say my hair was Donald Trump orange. I had been the victim of a single process + highlights/lowlights (all painted onto my hair at the same time by this other person) and my hair was truly a wreck. I appreciated Dia's honesty - this hot mess would take 2-3 (probably 4) visits to correct 100% - if she rushed the job I would end up with severe breakage since the hair was already so over processed. She got right to work and I noticed a significant difference after the first visit. I left singing her praises and so thankful. I went back 3 weeks later for the second "repair job" and again left thrilled as I felt well on my way back to ME (yet very anxious for all of this orange to GET THE HECK OUT... it is a process but it's frustrating when you don't recognize yourself in the mirror and haven't for months). I will see my pal Dia again in early December and am crossing my fingers (and toes) that I will leave looking NORMAL and like ME in time for Christmas. The salon itself is lovely - it's a full service establishment yet never seems chaotic or overrun; the employees are kind and take the time to ensure clients have a positive experience. I also found prices to be affordable. Can't say enough about Dia & Scissors. Very good facial. One of the best I've had and I even used a groupon. She did very thorough extractions which I love bc she listened when I told her to go at it! And for months after I couldn't squeeze anything out of my normally very clogged pores (I know gross sorry). Massaging was also good though I think the lady left the room while I had the masque on which I am not a fan of and believe that they should stay in the room working on you the entire time. Just went to Scissors today for the first time. I scheduled my appointment this morning for 4pm this afternoon and they were extremely accommodating. I was there on a Groupon and in the past I have had many negative experiences with Groupon and my hair. I'm a busy mom with 2 small kids and I really don't have it in me to shell out a zillion dollars for hair that I know I don't have the time to maintain. But I have some grays so I like to get highlights. I've been to several places hoping to find a place that sticks but have always come up empty. Until today! I was given Nicole, a sweet, friendly girl who was genuinely interested in helping me find the best color for my hair - despite my Groupon status and the obvious fact that I wasn't going to be the kind of customer who would generate a ton of visits and revenue. She took her time with each foil, really being careful. So many stylists are so sloppy with highlights. The color came out beautiful - and during the process she was happy to chat with me about family, life, etc. Many salons can really make you feel like a second class citizen but this is not one of them. I was treated very nicely from start to finish and I will absolutely be back again. If you have the opportunity to try them out using their Groupon, I highly recommend it. Best hair salon experience ever! Found this salon by flipping through a holiday coupon book--50% off any hair sevice for new customers. After reading the Yelp reviews I decided to make an appointment with Dia for a cut and blowout. I felt so comfortable from the moment I walked in. Tina shampooed my hair she got to me fast and she was sweet. Dia took my jacket for me and offered me something to drink. She's easy to talk to and really listened to what I wanted. She made sure we were both clear on what she was about to do before each step (seeing that I was comfortable with how much length was coming off). I am really happy with the end result and definitely plan on having Dia cut my hair from now on. She gave me a complimentary eyebrow threading after my haircut and my brows look so much cleaner than they did before! Anette the esthetician also spoke with me about the skincare services they offer she was patient and thourough answering my questions. I would NOT recommend Scissors to a friend. Went for highlights with a Groupon. Stylist was sloppy and lazy with foils; the mixture was thin and didn't reach the hairline or coat the hair properly. Stylist couldn't reach parts of my head causing me to tilt my head towards her the whole time. My neck really hurt. The color was wrong for my complexion. Not worth the Groupon price. In a nutshell I guess I will say Scissors salon was just okay. If I paid full price I would be upset but because it was a Groupon, I accept the experience I had. It was under a new ownership. The owner cut my hair and it took her only 5 minutes.. Not much came off. The woman who washed my hair was very rough, did not rinse well, and only favored one side of my head so when I got home I had a wash it all over again because of residue left on. She shot lots of water in my ears and used a non-salon over the counter deep conditioner. I guess you get what you pay for. The price I paid did not even include a blowdry which I found to be unusual. When you get a haircut you should leave the salon completed. Says it was a $79 value .. Just a haircut and conditioner? I don't think so. If I tacked on a blow dry, would that make it $100 worth? never. The owner was sweet but found the rest of the staff not too friendly. I guess they know their regulars from there Groupon customers. I just moved into the area so I'm trying to figure out where to put my loyalty in a salon. The haircut was adequate. Would I return?
