I think my stylist's name was Angela... she listened to what I wanted in my haircut, was super nice, and I really love the cut she gave me. Just totally perfect, even though my hair is a little bit fussy (and I've left a LOT of salons dissatisfied). Overall great experience, and because of that I think the pricing is totally fair. I just had a great first experience at Scizzors and would definitely recommend this salon. I called this morning and they were able to squeeze me in for a noon haircut. It's an odd location being on the second floor of a mixed use building but it is well marked and like a little gem when you find it. The customer service is excellent. I was immediately greeted upon arrival and someone took my coat and offered my an array of beverages. I didn't wait at all and Kaylee took me right in for a consultation before my cut. She did a great job listening to what I wanted and made some really good suggestions. Then I got an unexpected scalp massage before my shampoo which was pretty awesome! The cut turned out great! Had an amazing experience at this hair salon this afternoon! I was desperate to get my roots dyed before leaving for vacation & found this salon near my relative's house on Yelp... Big thank you to my fellow Yelpers for the honest reviews! Walked in the door & was kindly greeted by the receptionist, Jessica. Was so tempted for a complimentary glass of sangria or wine but my conscience decided it was best to stick with herbal tea. Emily did a great job with my color & Bledi (the sole gentleman working at the salon) gave me the best scalp massage & blow out I've had in quite some time. Finding a salon and hairdresser can be a tremendous headache when you're a woman. It has to be just the right combination of trendy without being stuffy, affordable without being cheap, and friendly without being overbearing. When my previous stylist took an early retirement a few months back, I was left without a salon. I did some searching in Yelp and came across Scizzors. It was close to home and got great reviews. Since having my first experience there, I can see why the reviews were so great. The women at the front desk were welcoming and quick to offer coffee, tea or water. The salon was updated and very bright. I was treated to an amazing scalp massage before getting my hair washed. It was an amazing treat for this stay at home (not one to pamper herself) mom. My stylist Bri came and introduced herself and began asking about my personal style and hair preferences. I'm not too picky and extremely low maintenance. She listed and made great suggestions and went to work. She was friendly and easy to talk to. My hair came out amazing; especially when you consider how little help I was to leading her toward any ultimate look. I had been to Scizzors a few times in the past and was always pleased with the results. However, my visit last week impressed me especially. I tend to try a multitude of salons rather than just stick with one. Some I love, some I don't really care for. Though I can always count on Scizzors to give me consistently amazing hair. I have never once been dissatisfied with any of the stylists or services I have received. For my visit last week, Bledi cut my hair and Kelly did my sómbre (subtle ómbre) highlights. In my experiences salons typically take about 2 hours for a cut and highlight, yielding sub par results. My appointment at Scizzors was at 12:15 and was complete around 4. The lengthy service speaks volumes to me. This shows how much the staff genuinely cares about giving their clients the best possible results, and that they aren't just trying to get people in and out to make a quick buck. I have been to salons in the past where my first visit or two were amazing, but the quality of service declined from there on out. The staff at Scizzors truly cares, and it definitely reflects in their work. I love this place! Highly recommended! read more

I've been going to Scizzors since my mother (already a longtime client) brought me there as a four year old. Now in my twenties, I've never been disappointed by a haircut. I have curly hair and they know just how to manage it. Bledi now cuts my hair, but I have worked with many people over the years and they are all extremely talented. Scizzors trains its stylists for months before it allows them to take on their own clients, so I always feel I can trust any of them. As someone who waited for two years to convert to a new hair salon after moving to the area, I was skeptical to try out a new salon. After doing some research, I decided to go with Scizzors. They make you feel like a superstar--everyone is so friendly and they really take the time to listen to your needs from your very first phone call. It's been several months since I had my hair cut here, so I don't remember the name of the lady who did my hair. It doesn't matter to me because I won't be going back. My hair is weird in how the top layers are curlier than the lower layers, so the lower layers stick out really bad as the hair straightens out if it's not cut right. Therefore, the under layers actually have to be cut shorter than the upper layers. She tried telling me it made no sense that my hair does that. Ummm I'm over 40, I think I know what my hair does. Because it didn't make sense to her, she didn't really listen to me when I told her how to cut it. Instead, she dried it all straight "to see where it needed to be cut" and then cut the lower layers. It is awkward, but thankfully, only to me. It's not really noticeable to others (probably mostly because I keep my hair up most of the time). This was the only time I've had my hair cut since we moved here 2 and a half years ago because it's so hard to find someone that works well with my hair. (Before moving, I had one person doing my hair for over 15 years.) But I guess the search will continue come summer. read more

You know a salon is amazing if you have been coming back ever since your first haircut at 6. I am now 27 and found myself running to book them for my wedding almost 18 months in advance! And that was before I even had the venue nailed down! Not only do the receptionists greet you by name when you walk in the door, but they offer you a beverage-and we are not just talking water and soda here people! You want a glass of Merlot with your highlights? Or perhaps a Corona with lime to pass the time while you wait for your buzz cut? Your wish is their command. I always feel pampered and relaxed from the moment I walk through the jingle bell adorned door. I bet you cannot say that your hairdresser gives you a scalp and neck massage after your shampoo! Well, I know I can! It is my absolute favorite part of the process! I love the total relaxation I get while I kick up my feet and listen to the most eclectic collection of tunes around (it is rumored that the owner has a 400 CD jukebox hidden somewhere in the salon that plays randomly selected tunes set to chill you out or pump you up). But you definitely won't hear Enya or Yanni in here! As a customer, it feels so good to be in a place where everyone genuinely cares and respects for each other and also for all the clients. In the chair you might often hear, "Kelly, can I get you anything before I go?" or "Would you like another cup of tea?" All the folks at Scizzors work not only as a team, but more like a family. I feel so genuinely cared for whenever I am at the salon. I don't know of any other place that would send me a handwritten housewarming card after buying a new home. That speaks volumes to me that someone would pick up on a conversation that I had with someone while at the salon, and then go and take the time to personally write a card to me and send it to our new address! WOW! Scizzors uses Bumble and Bumble products which are amazing and are actually good for your hair. It makes me feel like my hair dresser is more like a hair 'doctor' and prescribes only the best stuff for the health of my hair! (None of that alcohol based stuff for these lovely locks!) In fact, the prescription sheet and a little basket of products is waiting at you at the receptionists desk in case you need to re-stock or if you are just into trying a cool new product. There is never any pressure to buy, but they are so good, I usually leave with at least one or two things every time! And the warm and fuzzies don't stop once you leave the door. Daily updates on facebook make me feel like I am right in the salon buzzing about the newest makeup trends or hairstyle tips! The coupons and sales they post aren't too shabby either! I think it is really awesome that Scizzors also cares for the community. For the holidays, Scizzors sponsored a 'giving tree' of sorts where customers could donate $10 which would supply 60lbs of food for the local food bank. What a way to give back! I even saw that the whole Scizzors gang was headed to sing carols on the Shrewsbury common at Chrismas time! If you want a salon that is uber professional, friendly, fun and cool, then you need to get yourself to Scizzors!!!! read more

I decided to try Scizzors today after going to Salon Sogno for a few years now. I got a hair cut and blowdry and it came to be $50, for a hair cut? I usually pay $35 at Salon Sogno, and I heard this place wasn't as expensive as Sogno! Anyway, I told the girl I didn't want bangs, just for my current grown out bangs to blend in with the rest of my hair. Somehow I came out with long bangs all in my face. I asked her to really thin out my hair with thinning shears because it is so thick, it is still ridiculously thick and not very layered at all like I had asked. I liked the head massage but that's about it. I will probably be going back to David Gomez at Salon Sogno! read more

I went to this place 13 months ago the first time and the last time about 10 months ago. I did not write that review sooner cause I was busy trying to fix my hair .. I went there the first time last April for an ombré and the girl absolutely messed it up ! 100%! Highlights all over in different shades of blond and 3-5 big pieces of just blond. I had 3 ombré before and that one was nothing close to an ombré and 250$!!! I contacted them afterwards and told that how unhappy I am and they invited me back to fix it !! ( the manager is a very very nice and helpful ) The fix went OK .. ! The hair was already getting damaged from the highlights all over and then they had to dye it partly black again/bleach more cause it was brassy / bleach more cause it was just thin highlights all over instead of an ombré ... ...( nothing even close to be worth 250$!!) In august last summer I called and asked them if they do fantasy colors ( that ombré did not make me happy ) and they said yes ! So I went in .. And 6h later I was pink orange ...!!!!!! After obviously being not happy with the results .. The manager was very nice again ( he is awesome !!) and kept the salon open so a hairdresser can try to fix it and stayed too ( Bleach round 4!!!) And then she dyed it again and it was the same disaster ... I had to go in the next day again ( BLEACH round 5!!!!!!) It was not what I dreamed off but I was sick of bleach and sitting for hours ....!!! ( I think that fun was 380$..) It took about 12h .... I am not a hairdresser .. But a 2 minute google search can tell you that you do not just use goldwell elumen without warning the customer that this stuff will fade and fade and bleed like crazy until it turns orange but you won't be able to EVER remove it !!! And the other main thing is : you can not bleach over that dye ! You are not supposed to !!! It will just turn way brighter pink / orange and it gets blue and green in there ...! There is a color remover ( .. I tried it all but it did not work ! On my own )...! I had that dye bleached 2 times !!!!! I would say a " color specialist " should know something about the dye they use ...! Maybe the are not specialized on fantasy colors ..that is fine but then pls say it !!! But still .. What about the ombré ?! ?! My hair is dead now !!! It got bleached so many times by them .. And it still looks horrible !My new hairdresser did my roots a couple times now and the regrowth that she bleached is totally fine ...! It is the right blond ( not brassy bronze what they did ) it turns into a beautiful purple .. Is healthy and so much more worth the money .. The rest of my hair is totally damaged ..! It does not hold any dye .. It always turns out way different then the regrowth .. There is a edge going all around my head between scizzors and new hairdresser ... !!! It is so much work to keep that hair semi ok looking !!!! I am frustrated and sad and angry !!!! I have a ton of breakage ... The color looks terrible and the hair is destroyed !!! I probably have to cut it all off ... That is not acceptable !!! That manger is very good and he gives his best to help out but I don't know if I was just very very very unlucky or is it cause you have 4 hairdresser working your hair and I kinda feel you just explain it to the first and the rest just guess what they should do ?! But on the other hand .. There are so many things ( like bleaching 3 times in under 24h, bleaching a dye you are not supposed to bleach cause it will just gets brighter and first time washing the bleach out when the hair is brassy bronze for a purple ??? These are some logical things that you know when you google that topic for 2 minutes !!!! Done the right way my hair would be fine and my dye job too !!! Unfortunately it takes me 3h / week to keep my head looking acceptable color wise .. I am desperate ... I love my hair and good haircare costs a lot of money .. I am so willing to pay a lot of money to go to a good hairdresser .. The money is not the point at all !!! The point is paying so much for not having what you want and feeling like the hairdresser has no idea what she is doing ...!!!! I just do not want that to happen so anyone else ... I really appreciate the manager trying to help me !!! Maybe I was just unlucky and now I am desperate and have to idea what to do with my hair it will cost me a lot of inches and a lot more money to get that hair somehow ok looking. 1 star just cause of the very friendly manager .. I came in for the first time to get a cut and color. I loved the cut right away, but the color was not at all what I was looking for (probably mostly due to the fact that I've never had my hair dyed at a salon and didn't describe what I was looking for clearly). They went right to work removing the color and trying a different approach. Unfortunately I was running short on time, but they got me to a point where I was comfortable with how it looked and scheduled me to have it finished a few days later. This time it came out exactly how I wanted it! Just the right color purple in the right places. I'm not usually one to complain, and I felt a little guilty because I would guess it was probably a bit on an inconvenience to extend my appointment for so long the first day and then have me come back, but everyone was incredibly pleasant and accommodating. They didn't charge me for the color and apologized profusely for me having to come back and second time. It's nice to see people who really care about their work and making sure that their customers leaves happy. I will probably never go to another salon again. read more

I have been getting my hair cut by Bledi at Scizzors for almost 5 years. Scizzors is a beautiful salon in a building right on Route 9 in Shrewsbury. It is very easy to get to, and it is easy to find. If you're facing the building, the door to Scizzors is on the left side of the building- just go through the door with the pair of scissors and walk up the stairs. The salon is gorgeous, and the receptionists are so nice. They offer coffee, tea, water, and wine upon arrival. You'll get a scalp massage before your haircut, which is always absolutely divine. I have never been disappointed by a haircut, and I have recommended Scizzors to many people. Scizzors always has some sort of rewards program and/or promotion going on, so I have gotten products for half price and free. My oldest daughter gets her hair cut here too- she's got poofy curly hair, and Bledi works wonders with it. I would absolutely recommend Scizzors. read more

I have been a long time faithful client of Scizzors even through moving out of state. I know with certainty that when I go for my haircut and color I am going to be listened to and pampered and leave feeling 1000x better than when I came in. Today I saw Carissa for my haircut and Kelly for my color. Both were faced with a challenge because I came with a very specific vision in mind. Carissa looked over all my pictures and discussed the haircut thoroughly with me before we began. I was drastically changing my style so this was so comforting. Kelly was thorough and really talked me through what I was looking for. I had my haircut done first because it was such a significant cut so I was shampooed twice, first by Kim who is attentive and makes great conversation. I have been coming to Scizzors for a few years now. Normally I loved my experience, but lately it has just been adequate. My haircuts are always amazing and I love the stylist I use now for those. In the past, I tried many different ones through Scizzors and all (but one) were awesome. The receptionists are always polite and accomodating. My color is a different story. I LOVED Jennifer she always did an incredible job, but she recently left. I have tried color with Laurie twice now (I think she is new), and I have to say I was not happy. She is one of the roughest and most inconsiderate stylists I have ever come across. I asked for her to brighten up my hair and fix my roots with highlights and pull my natural color through my hair lowlights. Well, she told me that she decided that instead of using my natural color for the lowlight, she was going for a different color in order to get rid of the brassiness in my hair. She told me this AFTER the color was already in my hair!!! I understand that she is the "expert" of color, but TELL ME before you decide to change my color! Is it pretty? Yes. Is it what I asked for? NO. I felt like I was being ripped around the entire time she worked on my head too. She pulled on my hair, ripped some small pieces out (I assume by accident), and pushed on my head almost the whole time she was foiling (sometimes on my eye when she was doing the top of my head). I guess I got a great neck workout out of the deal because of the pressure I had to use to hold my head up straight. Everyone else here is great that I have had experience with. I always loved this salon, but I can honestly say I wont be back. It is an hour away from my new job, and I don't think it will be worth the ride... read more

This was my first visit to Scizzors hair salon in Shrewsbury. It is conveniently located, the decor was upscale and price very reasonable. All in all, a wonderful experience. I had called and asked if they could squeeze me in within one day, as I had an event to attend. They explained that in order to squeeze me in, I might have to wait 30 minutes, to which I happily agreed. Upon entering, I was greeted with courteous professionalism. I was offered something to drink: coffee, tea, water or wine. The ice cold water was served in a lovely wine glass. My service included a color, foil, cut and blow out, as well as a gloss treatment. For each service, I was greeted by a knowledgable professional with expertise in that part of my service. I asked for their opinion regarding style and color choices to fit my face, skin tone and eyes. I am very happy that I took their advice. In addition, I received a complementary demineralization treatment because they did not want me just sitting around for 30 minutes. At each stage, I was informed about the products used and recommendations made. The product would be set aside in a basket for me that I could choose to purchase at the time of payment at the front desk. There was absolutely no pressure or embarrassment regarding the decision to purchase or not. The entire process took about three hours and cost $145 which I thought was more than fair and reasonable. I went here for the first time today. I came in hoping to get a cut and color. As soon as I walked through the door I was greeted by both receptionist. They were so kind. They took my coat and hung it up, offered me a beverage (which was a wide variety), showed me where the bathrooms were and took me right to the waiting area. They told me my stylists would be right with me. I did not have to wait long at all. I was greeted by one of the girls who did my color. She was so sweet and talked with me about what I wanted. I showed a picture and we were able to figure out a way to make it work for my hair. (There was a lot of work involved). After the coloring I met the girl who glossed and washed my hair. Since it was my first time I got a complimentary scalp massage and shoulder massage. Then it was on to the girl who cut my hair. She listened carefully to exactly what I wanted and the cut turned out great. All three girls also offered me beverages and made me feel very comfortable. Overall I would definitely recommend this salon. Prices are pretty affordable as well. Definitely going back! read more

Heather is hands-down the best color professional I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. My grey "sparkles" have disappeared, even after 10 weeks. And she is personable and very funny! I also love Coco who gives me a fabulous cut after my fabulous color! She understands me and what I want in a cut and never fails to make me look like a million! Interestingly, in this salon your hair color and hair cut is done by different hairstylists - and this is also a reason why I am giving it 3 stars and not 1 - my haircut, done by Brie, came out excellent both times! I also enjoyed my head massage, and overall, she is great and gets 5 stars in my book. However, my color services were not exactly on the same level - probably due to the lack of colorist's training and education in that area. For example, my colorist would apply Olaplex step 2 on top of my toner - while for it to work properly, it has to be applied after toner is washed out of the hair. Slabbing it on top of the toner will simply prevent it from penetrating through, and it will not negate the damage done by the bleach. It has to sit on the rinsed (not shampooed!) hair by itself so it can link the remaining disulfide bonds and that is how it's done in the other hair salons I've been to and that is also the exact sequence described on the official Olaplex website: http://www.olaplex.com/pages/faq-public Otherwise, is a waste of product and disservice to the client's hair. It simply doesn't work. When I raised my concerns, a colorist - girl with pink hair, not Emily, the other one - she sat next to me and, in a rather arrogant manner, started to give her reassurances that this is, in fact, is the only right way to do it and official Olaplex website (and the rest of the internet i guess...) just didn't catch up yet on the best way to apply their own product, and only colorists like herself are on the cutting edge of the advancements in coloring and truly know that, despite all the other other evidence and common sense, applying it on top of the thick layer of toner helps it to penetrate all the ways through...yeah, right...she also claimed she learned it from her own experience and online forums....yes,yes, forums....I talked to the other colorist since then (the one that I WILL be going to next time...) and she thought it was nonsense as well... Anyways, apart from the improper Olaplex application, there were other concerning things about my coloring service, namely: - Hair color banding It's when you can clearly see the line, even AFTER coloring, between newly colored regrowth and old colored hair. Possibly due to the wrong bleach timing (color didn't have time to lift properly) on the new regrowth or using lower peroxide concentration, or both. - gray temples, yellowish top of the head Now that may have been due to the uneven toner application, or that partial mixing with Olaplex - which may have diluted it... - I can't be 100% certain, but I think a bit of shampoo was used to wash bleach off my hair, before toner and Olaplex application, which is I am pretty sure is not a good idea at all. The problem here is that shampooing/washing out your hair is done neither by the colorist, nor hairdresser - but by the THIRD person, that, as I understood was there just for washing the hair/applying toner, possibly colorist's trainee. It's inevitable that having too many people involved in doing different things on the clients hair at different times - especially them not being trained on the same level or due to miscommunication - will, in the end, cause mistakes and errors. So...my hair are not burnt/not falling out or anything but damage is greater than what you would normally expect with Olaplex. Color yellowed quickly and unevenly, with visible color banding. I will still advise to go to Scizzors for the haircut. But definitely not for the color service. read more
