Overpriced products. Hours are not consistent. Has bad reputation for treatment of hired help

Cute spot. Good service but not super friendly. An ice cream place should be a happy place. Lots of ice cream flavors. Maybe would go back.

Very nice snack stop. Clean, food is fresh, terrific staff. Tip them well - they "get it."

You reach the second floor via steep, narrow steps (about 30) with one hand rail. Assume third floor is similar. Not senior citizen friendly. And don't believe the description that says there is a chair lift. During our stay, my wife slipped on about the fifth step from the top and tumbled to the bottom. Fortunately she survived the fall, with some damage to her knee and bruising all over. Local rescue squad was prompt and professional. Ownership never reached out to us which is disappointing. We will find somewhere else to stay on our frequent visits to the Shore.

Where before a breakfast was included each morning of your stay, you now are offered 15% off you breakfast, but more on that later. The dining area is a fraction its former charm, but still charming. The dinner menu is pretty good and both of our dinners each night of our stay there were excellent. For this reason I have given two stars. It would be impossible to say the same about breakfast. In one location, an 8AM breakfast opening was listed. Our Welcome Letter stated 830AM was the opening time. Neither time mattered, because on both mornings the Breakfast service wasn't even open. The entry to it was locked up like an after hours NYC Subway entrance. Saturday morning no human being could be found. We even went back at 10AM to see if it had opened yet, with no change. Sunday morning it was locked up, but there a woman behind the bar to give our key to as we checked out. On both mornings we had breakfast elsewhere. We stay at the hotel for special occasions, and this stay was no exception. Staying at the Charlotte Hotel and not having to leave it was always something we appreciated and looked forward to during the previous dozen or so times we had stayed there before. Unfortunately, I don't think we will be coming back.

He recommended the Oyster Roast from Eastern Shore Coastal Roasting Co. I appreciated his comments regarding the blend and roast level and he was spot on. For my tastes at least. It's a smooth but dark roast that I just finished up. There was a farmers market going on across the street with ample parking for our travel trailer. There is also a railroad museum with a self-guided walk through of various train cars. There is a restaurant next door as well but we didn't try that.

We've been here a couple of times now. The line is always out the door and moves in waves (thanks,…read moreall you people who order milkshakes....) Everything is always so solidly executed - the milk chocolate an vanilla are great, and their special flavors (though IGNORE what's on their website - I got myself so psyched about what was listed as their flavors of the day on their website only to find out that what was at the store was a completely different list) are SO GOOD. The banana pudding tastes like fresh bananas (which is impressive to pull off with ice cream), and the black raspberry is groan-worthy good. Be prepared to wait. Play a game, talk to a friend...it's worth it.

Never been to an ice cream shop that felt like an exclusive club. While visiting Cape Charles for…read morethe first time two weeks ago, I stopped by Brown Dog Ice Cream since I wanted a dessert following dinner and saw a lot of people walking down the street with their ice cream cones and they had solid reviews. The shop isn't brightly lit, it's on the dim side, and you need to walk to the back of the shop to start your order. I came towards the end of the day and it wasn't crowded--there was one other person in line--but despite this and the long walk to the end of the shop I wasn't greeted by any of the staff. When I got to the start of the order line I was the only one in it and I looked at the overhead menu for some plant-based ice cream (google stated that Brown Dog Ice Cream carries plant-based ice cream options), there was an employee standing there who saw me standing in line and search the menu but didn't greet me or ask if I was ready to order--then I made eye contact with her to make sure she saw me obviously standing there and she STILL said nothing to me. Fortunately, there was another employee who came over and acknowledged me and kindly asked how she could help me. I let her know I was looking on the menu for plant-based ice cream but hadn't seen it. She let me know that Brown Dog does serve plant-based ice cream options but only in the summer months. I thanked her for her help and walked out. Because of the cold-shoulder I received when walking in and from the first employee, I won't be coming back for the summer plant-based options. I hope management hosts a training with all of their staff on how to treat people that walk into their shop...you kindly greet people when they walk in and when they are next in line, you greet them and ask how you can help them. Hopefully this improves.
