Service was a little slow but it was a Saturday afternoon and busy with only two workers. The place isn't that big and no tables with just chairs lined across the wall. So no ambiance The ice cream options were alot. It had ice cream, shakes, Italian ices and more. Prices were about $5 bucks an ice cream with 1 scoop. First let me make this clear ... I LOVE ICE CREAM! Good ICE CREAM!! CREAMY ICE CREAM!!! And, this is my big "BUT" I want my ice cream to be churned by the local purveyor not shipped in containers that make the ice cream parlor merely a pass it on to the consumer place. So ... SCOOP's PLACE is situated in the Village Green side of the Old Smithville Shopping Village. Us old timers would say its on the "new side" but most don't understand that so let's just say it's on the side with all the B&B's. The Smithville Shopping Village is a tourist destination serving B&B overnighters, casino gamblers, Jersey Shore beach goers, Smithville destination planners, and also locals who enjoy the variety of shops plus the really cool village atmosphere. SCOOP's PLACE is thinking tourists because their prices are HIGH ... REALLY HIGH .... EXCEEDINGLY HIGH especially considering that their ice cream is not created onsite but rather is prepared in some Jack and Jill ice cream factory to be delivered by truck or picked up and placed in freezer containers. Now, I am not slamming Jack nor Jill. They might be very nice people. Philadelphians and South Jersey types have enjoyed their ice cream for years and .... I will admit ... their factory produced ice cream falls into the creaminess standards I set for my taste of ice cream plus they have some really special flavors. It's just that this is not an ice cream parlor whose management is creatively putting fruits and flavors together for their customers ... Jack or Jill or others at the base of the hill that the twosome tumbled down to with barrels of milk made. Now, overpriced factory ice cream is probably deserving of 2 stars but I will admit first that this rating wavered between 3 and 4 but eventually fell to a 3.4, which rounded becomes a 3 not a 4 (The cost did it ... I am known for my frugalness and the cost of two scoops in a plastic container was a lost star all in itself.). However ... service is first rate with a smile that shines and welcomes all. I witnessed patience behind the counter as scoop after scoop was placed into cones, cups and created into sundaes. BRAVO!!! It's clear that on this hot Friday there were many who ignored the cost to enjoy the really attractive air conditioned parlor in the Village (Maybe it's the air conditioning that has raised the price skyward.)! There is a really great selection of JACK and JILL hard ice cream flavors plus more than your normal number of water ice options. I have to admit that I didn't notice nor look for "soft ice cream" or what I would call frozen custard so in that I fail as a reviewer but ice cream parlors should be all about the ice cream they serve. On a hot day in the Village ... yes, I may be drawn back into this attractive ice cream parlor (After I check my wallet of course.) to be greeted with a smile and served some good ice cream (My daughter opted for the mango water ice and the woman with that awesome smile suggested the small cup saying it was plenty (And she was right.). My daughter was very happy with her choice.). Now if we could only cut the cost or bring in an ice cream machine to create a few Smithville special flavors .... now I wouldn't mind paying more for those. read more

An ice cream shop is an obligatory and necessary staple in a quaint shopping place like Historic Smithville Village. Kids and adults alike were stopping by on the day I visited. The location is perfect right on the lakeside walkway with benches outside to enjoy your cold treat. There are several downsides, the most major being that they serve up generic mass-produced Jack & Jill ice cream rather than locally made stuff. Other negatives are that the prices are fairly high at $4+ a scoop and the place does not accept credit cards. It is cash only and has an ATM on premises. The positives are that you have plenty of flavors of ice cream to choose from, they serve quick bites of food to eat, and serve Italian ices as well. I'd definitely return for ice cream in the summer months if I'm visiting the village, but there is room for improvement in the product they serve. read more

1st off. Place smelt like sewer. 2nd. This place is a scam. "$6 for 2 scoops". I get 2 scoops. And got charged $9... i said "wtf why?" And he said "oH i tHoUgHt yU wAnteD 2ew sCo0pZ iN SeperaTe cUpS guhdooyy" Why would he assume that off top? Why cuz i walked in with an LV backpack u just thought id cough up w.e. amount? Thts why u working there at 30+ yrs of age bruh... start thinking smarter not harder. U wouldve made more $ from the family i was with n got $40ish bucks. That was the best Ice Cream parlor ever. I haven't been there since September 2019. I can't wait to eat there again.
