I stopped at this location just to grab a bottle of alkaline water! There was a very kind employee who wished everyone a pleasant day leaving the store that was standing by the registers as soon as you checked out! That was a nice gesture to make towards the customers. I would definitely recommend and return here at another date..

The key to success here is going early in the morning, before the bums wake up. Depending on the…read moretime of day, you should plan on bringing in your own cart from the parking lot, especially if it is raining or excessively hot outside. For only the most valued and important customers, they provide priority parking in the fire lane, which is particularly full as customers make groceries on their way home from work. Selection is limited at this location, but if you request an item via the website, they eventually start stocking it. The challenge is finding enough customers to sustain the purchase or else it is discontinued. Basic economics. Unfortunately, the deli hours are not posted anywhere, so one never knows if it is actually open, regardless of whether or not there are employees behind the counter. Be sure to check expiration dates before going to checkout. This customer has brought home more than one item which, while putting away, was discovered to have expired. Despite going through all the proper channels and multiple attempts for a status update, no refund has been issued to date (over a month at the time of this writing). Be cautious about purchasing any meat or dairy products from this location, as many items are often found on random shelves. In their defense, this is indeed the fault of lazy customers, not the employees, but ultimately there is no assurance that the product has not spoiled. While the general tenor of this review is negative, there are a few employees who deserve commendation. Teresa is a refreshing delight, an honest and humble cashier, who always greets with professionalism and a seemingly genuine concern for customer satisfaction. Also, although I regrettably do not know his name, I guarantee you there is not an employee at this location who works harder than the older black gentleman. By all outward appearances, his body inhibits the fullest expression of his abilities, but his work ethic is, nevertheless, undeterred. Both of these individuals hail from a more dedicated generation, who take pride in the quality of their work, a testament to those of younger years, among whom I count myself. If only their coworkers would strive to this level of service. In summary, this location is not the best, but also far from the worst. One small oasis in a growing desert of food resources, they have fallen victim to their surroundings but, one hopes, still have a fighting chance to help lead the community into a better position.

I have been passing by these stores in almost every city in Hampton Roads Virginia ( don't ask me where it got that name because I don't have a clue,I'm not from this area ) but as I was saying I passed by this supermarket chain countless times and never purchased anything that I can remember but I finally decided to give them a try and I brought a loaf of bread and some blueberries ( I love them ). The store didn't have a huge variety of items ti chose from but they have all your basic needs like bread, eggs, pastries, juice beverages etc etc. I would come again to make a purchase if needed but if you noticed I left out a star and that's because you should have your own bag or a shopping cart with you at the time of your purchase and of course I didn't have either so... some may say that's my fault but in my defense I had no idea!.

I am not a shopper, so when I get excited about a store, that should tell you something. I recently…read moreheard through the grapevine that Aldi was coming to town in Portsmouth. I knew the name, but really didn't know much about it. After researching the company this morning, I found out Aldi is owned by the same company as Trader Joe's. Aldi opened in Germany in 1961, and the first US store opened in Iowa in 1976. The more I read about this grocery store chain, the more I wanted to go check it out. So, off I went. First things first--you need to bring two things with you when you go to Aldi: 1) Bring a quarter for your shopping cart. You will get it back once you return your cart. The idea is that Aldi doesn't have to hire someone to retrieve carts scattered throughout the parking lot, and that keeps their costs down. 2) Bring your own bags because Aldi does not provide any for you. I think it is a fantastic idea! I'm sure the real reason is to keep costs down, but I love that it makes people use their own bags. *FYI--You will also have to bag your own items after paying for your things--they have a long counter for you to do that. When I found out that Aldi was a discounted grocery store, it gave me images of dented cans, rotten produce, and cheap brands. I was delighted to see that their small, but quality inventory was impressive; they carry lots of organic items and a large gluten-free line. Most everything I needed today I was able to purchase at Aldi. The store was clean, organized, and small. I can imagine it being crowded during peak hours, but it was quiet and mostly empty when I was there around 10:00 a.m. on a Monday. I liked the layout of the store, and I enjoyed the décor--not flashy, but comfortable. The cashier who rang up my items was very friendly and helpful--he asked if I was able to find everything, and when I told him it was my first time visiting, he said there was a $10-off coupon, which he went ahead and gave to me. I am in love with Aldi, and I plan to shop here on a regular basis even though I have to drive 25 minutes to get there. I found the prices to be extremely affordable compared to any other store I'd shopped at (except maybe the commissary but with much less hassle). I left with a shopping cart full of food and it cost me $70. You be the judge!
