He uses a slightly modified version of Starting Strength. Starting Strength is a program that was designed by Mark Rippetoe. It is known as one of the best yet simplest programs out there for beginners to get super strong. However, you don't have to be a beginner to see a huge benefit from its linear approach and focus on what Rippetoe calls "the 5 most important exercises in the weight room." This is not the only program to this, but it is a program that builds strength and is also used in various cycles of working out. I've seen improvements in my strength. Also, let's face it it doesn't hurt to know you are gaining lean muscle, losing inches and decreasing body fat. I think key is to know what you really want from using a program like Scott offers and knowing what your realistic goals are, especially with barbell workouts. I grew up dealing with some serious body dysmorphia that stemmed from a birth defect that I was born with called pectus excavatum- a concaved chest. To add to it I've always been a pretty skinny guy.
