I really appreciate the work that everyone did for me. I came over there in an Uber, and they made sure that the driver knew where the salon was located, because I was not able to give him directions. They washed my hair and blow dried it. And they had me feel my head so that I could touch and see how much hair has been taken off. I am completely blind. I was like that from booth. I've never written a review re: hair stylists, but having found Albena through reviews, here I am. I'd been going to a stylist on Newbury St. for decades, and when he retired (argh!) I tried stylists in various areas, but none felt right. I didn't want coiffed, didn't want to look, well, suburban, but I also didn't want to look forced or punk. Just wanted to let my hair party, to let my (short) hair do what it does best whether it's first thing in the morning or after exercise or I'm dressed to the nines. Albena listened, and she engaged me throughout the haircut, asking questions, showing me. She cut my hair dry, working with it as it is naturally, then washed it and did some refining. I wanted to keep some bit of length but have it shaped. This is the first haircut in which the following day I don't feel "It'll be just right in a couple of weeks" as it's just right today. It seemed risky to try someplace new without a referral from a friend with a great haircut--so consider me your friend, make an appointment with Albena. read more

I have been meaning to write this review for a while. I came here to have my waist length hair cut to a professional and practical length before a big career event at my university. It was my first pro hair cut in 2 or 3 years. I got a little lost on my way there and arrived late and Albena was nice about it, and didn't make me feel bad about it. She also didn't guilt me about doing my own highlights, which is something I expect from salons now. She gave me an amazing hair cut and blow out. Top quality. Answers the phone, washes your hair, cuts, blows out, colors...and she does it all superbly. I was so happy I discovered this hair salon, Albena is the best stylist I've ever been to. She's trained with one of the best European stylist and has some serious styling experience under her belt with styling for TV shows and TV stars in Europe. Albena gives amazing haircuts and blow drys. I went here on New Year's Eve to get highlights as well. I wanted caramel, which in hindsight is incredibly subjective to ask for. There's room for interpretation. I wasn't sure how I felt about it when I left the salon. When I got home, the highlights looked bright orange in my bathroom mirror. My blow out looked amazing. I thought after a few washes, I'd adjust to it. However after about 2 weeks, I turned to my bf and asked what he thought of my hair. He said, "I don't hate it. It looks like you dyed your hair red." I decided to get my hair redone by my old stylist. Maybe I was too used to telling that stylist what I wanted and her knowing. I used to always bring pictures of what I wanted in the past, but I'd gotten so used to working with the other woman that I didn't think to. All I know is that this was the first time I'd dyed my hair professionally in a year and a half, and orange doesn't look good on me. I'd definitely return for a haircut, but I don't know about dye. Albena is a really great woman, who is incredibly talented with scissors so maybe this was just a fluke. read more

I met Albena when she did the hair for a friend's wedding. I have very thick, curly hair and have been around the block with stylists. She gave me the most beautiful up-do that highlighted my natural curls for the wedding. I decided to see her for my haircuts. I most recently went to see her today with a mess of unruly, thick damaged hair, and I wanted a big change - short, styled, straight bob haircut. She exceeded my expectations, spent a very long time on my hair, and at a VERY reasonable price for the work. As other reviewers say - she is very attentive and in tune with me & my hair - I sent her pictures of what I wanted, and she obviously considered them, and then we worked together to get to the end result. My hair looks amazing, and I know that it will grow in well too. I can't say enough good things about her & her talent as a stylist. It's really the best experience I've had with a stylist - I've lived in NYC & gotten cuts there, and used to go to Vidal Sassoon in Boston. A cut from Albena is better & 1/2 the price. I have been living in Boston and now greater Boston area since 2006 and I have FINALLY found the most amazing hairdresser!!! I wanted to donate my hair- it would be a drastic cut. I have not had short hair in over a decade. But from the minute I met Albena, she put me at ease. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and told her I wanted to donate my hair to locks of Love.
