We called with a leaky waterline in our basement at 8:00 a.m. By 4:00 p.m. same day, we were completely back in business with a brand new pressure relief valve. Our tech was Donovan Romo. He was on time in the given time window, knew his craft well and fixed our emergency water leak in a timely fashion. We liked the fact that you get 3 quotes, and we went with new parts, as our house is 20 years old. Price quoted for the work that was done, was fair and even discounted a bit. I've been a Scott Hale customer for many years now. They've done many jobs for me and they also replaced my water heater, furnace and AC unit when they conked out. The old furnace went out the day before Thanksgiving one year, and they had a new one installed and running the same day. I appreciate the employees who have provided good service over the years. In the beginning I referred friends to SH, saying they are not necessarily cheap but they do good work. (Looking back, I realize however that I overpaid for the new water heater and other some other major expenses, I was just naïve and didn't do due diligence. More about overcharging below.) That being said, I've given up on SH. Too often my encounters with its employees go wrong. The person they send may or may not have experience with my issue, and they never ask for help from other employes. One recommended I have a new air intake installed (he came twice and couldn't get rid of the awful noise) and when I finally got a different guy over, he fixed the whistling noise just by recaulking the area; it was gone in minutes. Another guy made excuses for the (unsupervised) people who ripped up large patches of drywall because they didn't know to go through an interior wall; SH paid for the extra drywall repairs, which I appreciated. Another guy freaked out about the "sewage" he imagined must be under the board beneath my sink (there was none). Another couldn't tolerate me saying that I had never had a leaky condensation pipe until they replaced the AC. My 10+ years in my home meant nothing, and this is consistent: many times the repairmen will not give credence to anything I say, and however neutrally I state it, react as if I'm challenging them in some way. The latest incident is the $1800 estimate for replacing my kitchen sink (labor only). The guy said it would take 2-3 hours to remove the old sink (!!) and added that he would "cap the pipes" so I wouldn't lose water to the rest of house. I mean, there's upselling and then there's just BS. The plumber I hired removed the old sink in 20 mins and is charging a few hundred dollars for the whole job (including installing the new one). And of course the water to the house didn't have to be shut off, there are valves right under the sink. I'm really appalled they would just...lie. read more

I am writing this review in hopes that it saves others from being taken advantage of like they tried to do to my 89 year old mother. Gage, their "14 years of experience" supervisor, came out to do a complimentary check of her furnaces. Mom has two furnaces, side by side. Gage changed the filter for the downstairs system, and said the upstairs one didn't need changing. Clearly, he was aware that there were TWO furnaces in the house, as he checked them both and they are side by side, and so, as the experienced person that he is, should have been aware that there was likely two duct systems. Mom then inquired how much it would be to have the air ducts cleaned and sealed. Gage quoted her the price of $3280 to clean out and seal her air ducts in her home. She said she wanted to think about it so he left. Later she called and said she wanted the service done and asked for the $3280 quote in writing. It never came. However, Gage came back to do the cleaning and as he was working he told mom it was going to be DOUBLE the price because there were TWO duct systems. Mom objected, pointing out that he knew-- or should have known-- that when he gave her the quote-- obviously because he knew there were TWO furnaces. He tried to say that he hadn't noticed there were two, and then went on about how he had to pay the other employees $2000, etc. He talked to her for about 40 minutes, trying to get her to agree to the bill of $6560. She wouldn't accept his excuses for doubling the bill. He stopped after doing the upstairs ducts and left. Mom then got texts and phone calls from Scott Hale telling her that she owed them $3280, and that someone was coming to the house to pick up the check from her. She called their customer service, and explained the situation-- that Gage had given her the quote of $3280 for the whole house, and that he had only done half the work. She then got two invoices sent to her, both for $3280. She thought they were just duplicates. However they were apparently for the two systems. She was notified someone was coming to finish the work downstairs and collect the money due. She told me the whole saga because she was extremely upset and anxious about what had happened. She hadn't slept for two nights. She felt like they were trying to rip her off. She didn't trust Gage to be honest with her. She was worried they were going to insist she pay the $6560, which she was not agreeing to. She said she was only willing to pay the initial quote to her of $3280 for the whole house. My husband put a call into the company. The customer service person was pleasant and said she would look into it. Then Gage called and said he would give mom a $300 discount for the second bill but that was it. Mom refused to pay the doubled price. Just to end the ordeal, she agreed to pay $3280 for the half job they had done and just didn't get the downstairs ducts cleaned. Even after all that, the company was insisting on sending someone to her home the next day to collect her check. She refused to allow them to come. She was that mistrusting of them. She mailed the check instead. I echo many of the reviews here--- don't use this company. Don't let your parents use this company. They are not trustworthy. They are heavy-handed in their treatment of older people. I just wonder how many other people have been pressured or tricked into paying DOUBLE the quoted price because Gage the supervisor "didn't notice" there were two duct systems when giving the quote. The following is an abbreviated version of the email I sent Scott Hale management two weeks ago about my most recent interaction with them. Not only have they not responded, but they also charged me for another month of their service plan. Beware when doing business with them! They are a corporate plumber that ONLY cares about money and their own bottom line, not their customers. DID SCOTT HALE KILL MY DOG? To recap, I paid about 12k for a water softener/tankless heater setup three years ago. September 17, the tankless heater started leaking heavily. It was explained to me that the descaling that took place during a routine visit the previous Friday exposed a flaw in the piping of the tankless heater, leading to the failure of the device. Their rep suggested that instead of waiting for the heater company to send the parts to fix the problem, that we just replace the whole thing with a new one. There was one little problem though... who was paying for the labor. I was of the mind that the labor should be covered by Scott Hale for the following reasons: 1) The water heater was rated to last 30 years and failed after 3, meaning it is a faulty product. 2) The product failed under no fault of mine. I had been getting the recommended check up services as included with the 15 dollar/month service plan. 3) The heater company should cover the labor done by Scott Hale due to their faulty product, not the consumer. 4) Most importantly, in my eyes, Scott Hale recommended the product and stood by it. I paid 1800 bucks for labor (minus whatever service member discount you gave... so generous). I was told that I needed to float the money while the representative obtained a refund from the company, if any. Yes, I wrote that correctly. Me, the customer, who paid what is (to me) a phenomenal amount of money for a product that failed, is expected to float 1800 bucks that I dont have, that I may or may not get back. Me, the customer who is a lower middle class family trying to scrape by right now, is expected to float 1800 dollars over a company (who remember recommends these products) which likely brings in ten times that daily. How is that okay? How is that customer focused or service oriented? But thats not all. At the end of October I learned that my dog needed surgery to remove cancerous lumps from her vital areas. The great irony of the situation is that the surgery amount was about the amount I needed to be reimbursed. I texted Kendall on October 24th letting him know that I really needed the money for my dog. As I mentioned before, I don't just have large sums of money just laying around. I texted Kendall on November 7th asking about an update. After he responded that there was no update, I sent the following "Is there any possible way that Scott Hale can refund me the money in the meantime while you wait to be reimbursed? I'm fairly certain your company can float 1800 bucks a lot easier that I can. I really need the money for my dog". I never received a response. I had to put my dog down last week due to not being able to afford the surgery. If you doubt my story at all I would be happy to provide receipts for the cremation and quoted surgery. I am aware the title of my email is alarmist. This entire situation has been one giant failure of Scott Hale policy and customer service. Scott Hale Plumbing did not kill my dog - the cancer did. However they did deprive me of more time I would have had with my best friend due to quibbling over 1800 bucks for labor for a broken water heater that I had nothing to do with the breakdown of. As far as I'm concerned, the issue is between your company and the manufacturer. Did anyone try to advocate for your customer and say "Hey, this situation is pretty fucked up, were sorry, here's a refund for this totally-out-of-your-control situation and we will go after the manufacturer on our own time"? Never buy a heating and air conditioner from Scott! They sold me an air conditioner that required a 40 amp breaker but my house was only wired for a 30 amp breaker. They installed the unit in January and it worked good. But in May when the air conditioner came on it kept tripping the breaker! They came out 6 times and couldn't figure out that the breaker couldn't handle the 40 amp system they put in. The sales men told me my old system was too small for my house and I needed the bigger system! There first solution was to put a bigger breaker in ! I argued that the wire was too small! They said it was ok! I called an electrician they told me it was a fire hazard! I called them and told them that! They said it was the unit. Beware of Scott Hale Plumbing. I called Scott Hale Plumbing on March 3rd, 2025 for a leak we had inside the kitchen wall which was also leaking into the billiard room downstairs. Scott Hale Plumbing's service person Tyler arrived and looked over the problem. Tyler was concerned that asbestos may be in our ceiling. Tyler called a company that would come out and test for free to see if there were asbestos in our house. There were two companies who came out Farr West and Standard Restoration. These companies never gave us a quote. They proceeded to go ahead and tear out and clean up the asbestos. They ripped out our kitchen cabinets. After this was done. Tyler came back and inspected our plumbing needs. Tyler said for $1,300.00 our plumbing would be replaced under the sink and put back like before. Tyler also said replacing the pipe going from the washer drain to the main drain would cost $1,654.00. We decided to replace all the pipes for $2954.00. We were on hold waiting for Scott Hale to provide the proper paperwork for our insurance company. Scott Hale claimed they would send the paperwork to our insurance company. We would then talk to our insurance company and the information wasn't sent to them. I went to Scott Hale Plumbing and Tyler was there. I told Tyler I came there to kick somebody's ass to get a damn letter for Insurance I needed to proceed. Five minutes later I had the letter in my hand that I needed for our insurance company. We believe Scott Hale Plumbing didn't list the real cause of the leak and our claim was denied by the insurance company. We lost so much time playing these games with Scott Hale Plumbing. I have called and talked to a couple employees of Scott Hale Plumbing about coming back and fixing the plumbing. It seems they don't want to finish the work for us since they have been paid in advance. For some reason what Tyler told us isn't valid anymore since he doesn't work for Scott Hale Plumbing. Scott Hale Plumbing said the pipe from the washer to the main drain cost $2,954.00. Tyler told both of us right in front of him to fix all the Plumbing was $2954.00. When Tyler told us the total price for both items we then decided to go ahead and start the job. We never received a hard copy estimate for what we approved. We were screwed out of $1,300.00 dollars because Tyler no longer works for Scott Hale Plumbing, and they won't honor what he said. Scott Hale Plumbing also cost us $12,676.00 for Farr West and $3,193.00 to Standard Restoration for cleaning up what we could have done ourselves. I have been using Hale for plumbing, heating, and AC work for well over a decade. Things have gotten so bad I cannot believe it anymore. Many years ago they were actually pretty good. We bought a service plan with them and they came out and did maintenance and it seemed fine. Then we had a leak and decided to let them replace the entire plumbing system in our house as they suggested. After they were done our son told us that the water coming out of our hose was hot and we brushed it off at first, thinking it had been in the sun, but he said it was steaming so we went to look. They had hooked up straight scalding hot water from the water heater to our outdoor faucet. They fixed it and then we gradually had more and more problems with them after that. We had someone come out for maintenance and say that our furnace was in great shape and should be fine for years. Then the next guy who came out said it was in horrible condition and could blow up if we didn't replace it. When we got another opinion they said it was fine. Then the next time we had a scheduled service guy come out from Hale for maintenance he also said it was fine. Then they said our AC which had been working fine and they were just doing a tune up on needed to be replaced immediately. The Hale guy said we couldn't use it anymore and he shut off the circuit breaker outside for it. We had another opinion and he said it was fine and since then it has run fine for about 6 years. Then they replaced a water heater for us with one we found out had been recalled that basically fell apart in a few months and when they came to replace it they tried to charge us for the recalled water heater they had put in a few months before. We actually had to talk to a manager to get them to stop threatening to make us pay for the recalled defective water heater still under full warranty. They just have become dishonest to the point they they flat out lie and tell us everything is going to explode if we don't replace it and then a second opinion from any other place says everything is fine and years later everything is still working well and obviously didn't need to be replaced. I need to stop typing but I have several more examples of shoddy work or flat out lies we have caught them in, including installing something new and then coming out 6 months later for maintenance and telling us that the new thing needs to be replaced, and saying that something is leaking gas but when we ask them to show us on a gas leak meter it reads zero and they quickly change their story. We should have stopped using them years ago but we just keep thinking it will be better next time and it seems like it gets worse every time with more obvious lies and scare tactics. read more

Sure, they showed up, but for a ten dollar part from ace hardware she walked away with a $400 bill. Frankly they took advantage of my mom. She agreed under protest, because if it leaked she didn't want further damage and felt like she was in between a rock and a hard place. The short review is to avoid Scott Hale Plumbing at any cost. They are the worst company I've ever had the misfortune of dealing with. If you're curious about why; continue reading. I contacted Scott Hale Plumbing to address a gas line issue at my home. They responded with a quote and assured me they could replace all the gas lines and get me back up and running within 1.5 days. A week after the initial contact (Friday), they began the project, and everything seemed on track. They promised to return on Monday to complete the work and prepare for an inspection. However, it took four weeks for anyone to return and finish the job. During this time, I called every other day seeking updates, only to be told someone would call me back. SPOILER ALERT: nobody ever called me back...not once. I pleaded for answers as I grew increasingly frustrated, but still nothing. They finally came back to finish the work after I threatened to hire another company. As a result, I endured a whole month without gas in my home which meant I couldn't use hot water, the oven, dryer, or air conditioning in the middle of the summer. I had to do their job by contacting the city and Dominion Energy (all part of the estimate), as they made excuse after excuse. Despite the hellacious experience, all I received was a $500 discount on my $7,000 project (a paultry 7% discount). To nobody's surprise, they called me five times on the first day after the project was completed to collect their money. I've made many mistakes as a homeowner, but none as significant as hiring Scott Hale Plumbing. I strongly recommend looking elsewhere for your plumbing needs. I purchased a new furnace from Scott Hale Company less than two years ago. It wasn't working when I finally switched it on Friday. I called and the sent an arrogant technician out who first told me I should have a furnace tune-up every two years. I told him I would do that after I had it two years. After replacing a non-faulty part, it still didn't work. He tried a couple of things and finally got it to work. Fast forward to Sunday morning. It's 59 degrees in my house and the furnace isn't working! Unfortunately, I am stuck with them because the furnace is under warranty. If I could rate them 0 starts, I would. My wife and I called them needing our main sewer line replaced. Our initial contact was with Don, and we like Don. It's too bad he works for this company. When the project was finished, we thought we'd sign up for their Service Partner Agreement, which was $15 a month and they would do furnace and a/c checks, clean a drain for free a year, and a discount on other services. Sounds great, but it doesn't make you a "priority customer" like they say. Every time we would call to schedule an appointment they would schedule it for their next available opening, but when that day came, they would call with "emergencies" and have to reschedule. The first time or two we accepted and would reschedule, but then those would be rescheduled, as well. And they would reschedule every time. We did get them to our house a couple of times, but nearly as many times as we tried. Finally I told them I wanted to cancel. So they did, or so I thought. I was called back the same day and begged to stay with them. They even offered to give me a year for free, and I told them it was too little, too late. They said they understood, and the account would be canceled. Well, 2 weeks later, I was charged again. Figured maybe it was just a delay in accounting, whatever. The next mo th I was charged again. I called them, and they apologized and told me they couldn't understand why, because the account was closed, and they would be refunding me for both charges, and I should see that on my card in 5-7 days. We'll, today is the 7th day, and nothing has come through. I again called, and they told me the credit was just done 2 days ago, and I should again see it in 5-7 days. Charged for parts that were not bad @ $ 416 Had to return the next day, ultimately found a control board problem, replaced and was charged $4,300 for a part I could buy myself for less than $800!!! They charged my great grandparents, who are in their 90s, $830 to install two faucets. My grandparents purchased the faucets from Home Depot. The job took 1.5 hours. These people are preying on elderly people. We spoke with the manager and he said they received a $100 discount because they were a loyal customer. In the last two years when they have come to do routine service they find something little that needs tuned then give me three options: do nothing, pay several hundred dollars to replace a small part or replace the entire heating and air system ( that is less than 5 yrs old). I called recently to have them order and replace a warranty part. They charged me $450 to swap out a part that required 15 minutes of work. When I called to double check about the charge on replacing a "warrantied" part they informed me they now charge by the UNIT...there was no negotiating or upfront warning. I will no longer be using Scott Hale. Instead I will use Passey Plumbing who came to replace a water heater then informed me it just needed a new valve. Make sure to shop around and get multiple bids! Scott Hale Plumbing quoted me $3000 on a job that should cost under $500. Either Scott Hale Plumbing isn't very adept at their profession or they have very ethically questionable practices. They tried to grossly overcharge me (based on other reviews it seems to be a common occurrence). I wanted to install a gas line into the kitchen to switch to a gas stovetop. They told me I would need to install 4 new regulators (1 for each appliance) and upgrade the gas meter through Dominion energy which would take 4-6 weeks for permits and cost $2900. They also offered me a faster option that didn't require permits but would cost $3200. It didn't feel right so I had someone I knew from Dominion come take a look at it and he said he can't comment on contractor quotes but all I would need is 1 regulator and T off the main line to go straight to the kitchen just above the utility room. He said it was a fairly straight forward job, would require 1 regulator ($25-$50) and about 10 feet of black pipe ($20). I wouldn't need to get permits and it could be done within a couple of hours. Rough Estimate Factors and Assumptions: -Not a complex job -Standard hourly rate of $100 -Round up and extra 1.5 hrs to be safe so 3.5 hours -Not factoring in access to discounted products they may have -Rounding up to compensate for taxes TOTALS Parts: $100 Labor: $350 Total Estimated Market Value: $450 read more

Somehow they got my last review removed and I feel so strongly about them sucking in the worst possible way I am posting it again. I couldn't get hold of my regular furnace guy, so I called them. I told them to bring a new thermostat as I thought that was the issue. I could have fixed it myself, but I was very busy working from home, and it was cold. They tried to use scare tactics stating my heat exchanger was cracked and my furnace was unsafe, can't leave it this way, you have to replace it, your life in danger. blah blah blah, he had barely taken the front off the furnace, off and is telling me my heat exchanger is cracked. So I asked him to show me, he gave a pathetic attempt trying to show me what was a crease in the metal with his camera, and telling me it was a crack! Told him to leave, and had a very hard time getting him to do so. I started calling around while he was downstairs writing his quotes, and everyone I called said their scamming you, but we can't be out till later. Just then my regular guy called me back apologized that he was stuck on another job and couldn't answer. He came right out he pulled my furnace apart and checked it with a fine tooth comb. Only because these guys had stated "IT WAS DANGEROUS!" He even cleaned my furnace stating how can you see if there is a crack without taking the dust off it first. Then he put my furnace in bypass, and got out all his fancy meters and checked that there was no CO2 leaking into the air ducts. At the end he stated there is Absolutely nothing wrong with this furnace! I laughed and said then why isn't it working, didn't you check your voice mail? He said, no I recognized your number and called you back, you told me me those guys were telling you its a dangerous furnace I headed right to you. I just looked at him and said please tell me you have a thermostat in your truck. He too one look at my thermostat and said "oh yeah, those ones sucked!" Grabbed a thermostat out of his truck put it in, my system fired right up and my house started getting warm. Ended up costing me $200. and it would have been half that if they hadn't come out first and gotten everyone worried, and brought the darn thermostat as I had requested. And my regular guy even cut me a break as it wasn't my fault he had to tear apart my furnace, it was Scott Hales. I also lost half a days PTO as I had to call in and get someone to cover for me, while all of this drama unfolded. After the house started to warm up we talked and my guy stated yes, your system is getting old at about 20 years, and you should think about replacing it soon, but it doesn't need to be done today, not even this year, but 3-5 years you will need a new one. "Mine is already 20+years which is why they thought they could con me." Then he asked, mind if look at their bid? I said "Well of course!" He said yeah, I would be a little over half of that. He will be putting in a new system for me mid summer when they are not busy with emergencies. When our heater went out a few years ago they were quick to come out and get it replaced. They wrote down the filter size as 16x25x1. For the past couple years no problem when replacing the filters (actual size is 15- 1/2x24- 1/2x¾). Was gifted another filter (actual size 15x24x25/32). Surprisingly it was too large to fit. Not sure if Scott Hale have poor training and no experience employees, Or if they were running a scam on a young new home owner and charging $150 to identify an AC problem. The power breaker kept going off and the two techs had to come back to reset the breaker after the first attempt failed. The compressor was not big enough for the house was one response? Really? Then advised the home owner that the two year old furnace had to be replaced for 12k, and they had no choice. Really? The home owner was smart enough to figure out that these two had no clue and hired another company to come after several days of suffering heat. Kodak Cooling and Heating came out, found the problem quickly and replaced the breakers for $200 and no bull shit! A waste of $150 with Scott Hale Plumbing. They came out to quote me for a problem with my furnace. Stating the part alone as over 2,500.00. Said it's just be in my best interest to get a new furnace and ac. Then quoted me 7,500 alone for my furnace and over 13,000.00 for the set. RIPOFF! Found a better company and paid 3,900.00 for my furnace replacement. Had water main replaced last September. During the process of pulling out old main with their equipment they damaged both the public sidewalk and sidewalk to the front door. I was told they would take care of repairs but not until spring or summer. I have reached out numerous times and have not had response on when this repair will take place. Disappointed that company is not keeping to their word. read more

George and Harley were absolutely wonderful today, fixing a leak in my bathroom. However, I agree with other reviews that the prices that Hale is now charging are well over the price it should actually cost. I find this so disappointing as I have used and supported this company for the last 35 years. If you can get George and Harley to do the work, you're in great hands. However, I'd certainly recommend price shopping, which is what I'll be doing in the future. read more

After learning I was offended by Scott Hale plumbing grossly overcharging me, Scott commented on my Yelp review that he's sorry I was dissatisfied and said he'd like to talk with me personally, but he provided no contact information. We have used Scott Hale for years and have had nothing but good service! We purchased our new furnaces and one air conditioner from them...they've taken such good care of us. We do belong to their monthly club---we pay $15. a month and we get free yearly check ups. Yesterday they came to check our air-conditioners, so there was no charge to get them up and running. Hayden Knight was very knowledgable. We recommend them!!! read more

Their $139 estimates turn out to be $460 something for a kitchen sink, the sink backed up again few days after their work. They said they don't guarantee their work so we had to call another plumber to open the sink. I don't recommend this company to anyone read more
