Scott Home did my pre-purchase inspection. They missed basic items, particularly with the faulty electrical system in the house and several rooms not having ducts for heating. They became defensive and refused to work with me on these issues, immediately pointing to the limit on liability in the contract. Their bad work cost me thousands of dollars. I was initially skeptical of the high price of a full inspection but it was more than worth it and we dodged an expensive bullet after seeing the results of the radon and mold tests. The inspection report was incredibly detailed and the two day inspection totaled over 4 hours for a 970 sf duplex. Was it cheap? Normally, I don't waste my time writing about non-edible businesses. But these guys are awesome, and they deserve all the stars you can eat. Even though you can't eat a home inspection. I mean, I tried: I gnawed on that radon test monitor like crazy, but it didn't really do much for me. We're first-time homebuyers (a.k.a. completely clueless, slightly paranoid idiots), and our realtor recommended that we call Scott for an inspection. And because we're completely clueless, my fiance and I peppered our poor inspector, Todd, with a bazillion dumb questions, most of which weren't necessarily related to his core job of inspecting our home for major defects. And Todd was amazing--we learned a ton from him over the course of our two hour inspection. He was phenomenally thorough, incredibly friendly, and wonderfully willing to educate us on absolutely everything. He's a great guy, and I felt infinitely better about our purchase after having him look through everything. For bonus points, Todd used a pretty slick phone-based system that allowed us to see the inspection report highlights before the inspection was over. A week after the inspection, we had a question about the radon test, and the owner (George Scott) took the time to thoroughly answer our email within about 10 minutes. And co-owner Ann Scott went out of her way to accommodate us when we scheduled the inspection on just a few days' notice. This company is run by unbelievably nice, thorough people, and that makes me happy... even if that radon monitor really didn't taste very good. read more
