What happened to them? I shopped Mclendons all the time. Mainly because of customer service. Everyone was very friendly and always wanted to help. I went in this morning at about 8:15. No one acknowledged me at all! I walked past 4 people, nothing. I went down an aisle a woman was working at. She grabbed something out of the cart and went around the corner. I had to move the cart so I could get my cart by what I was looking for. It made a lot of noise. It was when she came back she said sorry and wanted to know if she could get somebody to help me. I said no. I was at the paint department and the woman at the key kiosk never said a word. I decided to just leave. Even the 2 cashiers, who were just standing there, said nothing as they watched me walk out the door. I stopped shopping Lowes because their customer service was bad. This is the best hardware store I have ever been to! I have shopped at the big box stores, independents, and even other Ace stores but non can compare. They have knowledgeable, friendly staff, and the inventory is incredible. I don't think many people could possibly think of an item they don't carry. I'll be honest. I've had issues with customer service in this store. It ranges from great to "where did everybody go?" Members of the sales staff have rarely stopped to ask me "Can I help you find something?" when it was obvious I was scrutinizing every sqaure inch of the light bulb shelves on aisle 12 (not the real aisle number. How would I know or care to remember what it really is?) for the seventh time. Because of this lack of customer service I've avoided shopping here for a couple of years. But as luck would have it, I needed a new 22" Weber One-Touch kettle charcoal grill. And wouldn't you know that by some mystery of chance every since retailer has it for the same price. So that means you're merely dealing with who has it in stock and what special services they offer that the other local stores--or Amazon--doesn't. This is where Scott Mclendon's Ace Hardware won out. Did they have it in stock? Check. Could I buy it online? Check. Did they offer free assembly? Check. Did they offer curbside pickup service? Check. Was the curb just a few feet from the front door? Check and mate! When I bought the Weber online it said the assembled grill would be ready for pickup in two days. So imagine my joy and surprise when I got an email within the hour notifying me the grill was ready to be picked up right then. I drove to the store the next day to pick it up and there was a bit of a wait which worried me. But then, down the aisle came one of the staff, an older gentleman, wheeling towards me my new beloved beauty! It looked perfect. And even better, he was wearing a face mask just like I was. After he wheeled it out to my car I asked if the paperwork was inside. He lifted the lid and there it all was. Silly to have posed the question in the first place. He even showed me the sales receipt taped to the kettle handle. After we hoisted the grill into the back of my car, he cautioned me that the handle was sticking out too much and the hatch window would hit it unless I repositioned it. I hadn't noticed that and was glad he warned me. So a great experience was had by me. Once again I have a highly favorable opinion of this store. What's more important, I bought from a local franchiser instead of from a big box store chain. And the guy who wheeled out the Weber cared enough about both his health and mine to wear a face mask. All that rates 5 stars in my opinion. And so it has. read more

I have been rescued by Scott Mclendon's Ace hardware store for 21 years now. I just read some negative reviews and I can't figure out why. When ever I have a need for "That" part and have given the big box stores and other local hardware stores the chance to keep up with Scott, they have failed me. If you really need that special "Thing", they are the place to go. Don't waste your time going to any other place. I feel like family with them. If you have experienced something less than ideal there, I am sure you would have experienced the same or worse in the other hardware stores. As the saying goes, "think Global, buy Local". And by shopping at Ace Hardward in Port Orchard, I consistently appreciate doing so. The level of customer service, quality of products, and pricing always impresses. For example: Earlier this summer, I discovered I needed a set of window screens; don't we all? So I looked throughout the internet and found a provider that would send me the set in 8 weeks for $90. Having checked with the team at Ace Hardware, the screens were completed in two days, and cost me $32. This was a no brainer. Overall, I continue to be impressed with the Ace Hardward experience. As a side note: I remember when the big box Lowes moved in to PO and this was during the earlier recession of 2000's. And Ace Hardware took an initial hit. But I remember stating at that time, "Customer Service prevails". And it did. So I continue, like many in our town, visit Ace Hardware as my first option when it comes to hardware and home products. If you want to get that small hometown hardware store feeling I highly recommend going here over the big box stores. This place carries basically everything that the bigger stores carry however they have a lot more employees to help you who are friendly and go out of their way to make sure that your experience in the store is a good one. Yes you might pay a little bit more for the items over the big box chains but I would rather do that and get better service keep up the good work people read more

Let me get this off my chest first: I absolutely dislike going to the Big Box hardware stores and being served by millennials who know nothing about hardware or home ownership. So I truly enjoy going to Ace in Port Orchard. In fact, my wife tells me that I should use more "covid" discretion and not go there as often as I do. However ... When I need something, even an item that is obscure and one of a kind, the staff at Ace work with me. For example, I needed a second key for our 2003 Ford. After contacting the dealer and seeing how it would cost over $138 to simply "program" the blank, Ace did the blank, the cut, and the program for $72. Thank you to the team at Ace for sticking by our town. When Lowes opened during the recession, Ace hung in there. When Covid hit, Ace stayed true to the "essential" theme, and hung in there. So I appreciate being a customer. In some situations, I will knowingly pay more just to give back to our hometown store: Ace is the place! read more

DISAPPOINTING SHOPPING EXPERIENCE/ LACK OF CUSTOMER SUPPORT/ SERVICE On 05/04/2020 I called the store inquiring about a Traeger Timberline 1300. I was told 2 models on floor were already assembled. The man said they could take the legs off so it would fit in the back of our SUV. I said I would purchase on line and pick up in store. He said okay I said I'll be there in a few hours. On checkout Ace was offering a free bag of pellets with grill purchase. But store didn't have any in stock. I selected that the pellets be shipped to me but at $21+ for shipping on a $19 bag of pellets it wasn't worth it. So they were shipped to the store. ( you think I could have them shipped to another store ) Upon arriving at store pulled up to curbside pickup only to be told to drive around back. Once in the lumber section I was pushed my grill with wheels on . The 2 young kids didn't ask if we needed help as they could see that we both were struggling to take the grill apart and lower it on its side. Lucky I brought tools in case that I needed them for something else. Once wheels were off we both struggled to load the 250 pound grill into the back of our SUV. Not once were we asked if we needed help or if everything was okay. Fast forward to this week. Pellets are in store. I get an email saying that if they are not picked up by ends day they will be sent back to the warehouse. So they were shipped to the store. Then they are being shipped back to warehouse ? At this point you would think just shipping them to the customer would be the best option or asking if they could be shipped to another store location. As I said we don't live close. But nah ! I replied to the email saying that it's about a 50 mile round trip for me plus tolls on the bridge. Still no response ! After spending $2,300.00 in a single transaction you would think better customer service but nope very disappointed how this was handled and the lack of customer service and Communication. I have reached out to ace.com corporate but yet to hear back now after 11 days. Seems you get the same lack of service insotre and online ! read more

My family and I were looking for a Stihl chainsaw and we ran into this gentleman before named James. He had a horrible attitude and treated us with no respect. Hands down the best hard wear store in Kitsap County. Helpful employees who who know their products and if they don't they know what employees specialize in that area. Lumber is ready to load before you pull around back. Prices are slightly higher than the box stores but you are in and out of Mclemdons before could even find one item in the big box stores. Also ignore the people who say its a fake welcome. He has not been there enough to know what he is talking about. They know me by name and always ask what I am worming on now. read more

I have shopped at this store for a few years. Prices are often higher but I like the employees and convenience to the store from where I live and I support local business. I am a premium rewards card member. The last two years I have seen more and more people come to the store with their dogs. These are not service dogs which I have no problem with. I have seen a dog crap in the parking lot and the owner not clean up after it, a dog pee in an isle and not cleaned up after, dogs pushed around in a shopping cart with no cover under it, dogs trying to fight. I find this very offensive. I have spoken to many who feel the same as I but many don't complain. I have been told by management that people think of their dogs as their children which I do not feel is acceptable, they are dogs not children. I do not dislike dogs. I dog sit for my neighbors one dog and my daughters three dogs which they never take to a store. Today while at the counter checking out an elderly man with a dog came up behind me, the dog jumped on the counter then on me, the dog was not reprimand nor pulled back by the owner and was even encouraged by the clerk. I have seen before where the clerks encourage the dogs talking and petting then. I am glad that business is so good at the store that management prefers to allow dogs in the store rather than myself as a paying customer. It will have to be an emergency for me to enter and purchase anytime at this store again. read more

I could not believe the horrible service and treatment that I received from this store! Not only does the store lack in variety and prices, compared to Lowes and Home Depot, but the employees were very rude. Till this point I was willing to look past the higher prices and lack of variety due to the store's proximity to my home. I had just purchased a lock from the store, went out to my car and noticed that it had been previously opened before and that the default combination was changed. Yet they put it out on the shelf anyway. Well, I immediately tried to walk back in to the store but found the store door locked in front of me. The same employees who saw me walk out a minute earlier stood in front of me with their arms folded and a smirk on their faces and said, "Sorry we are closed" It was 7:03pm, three minutes past the closing time. I looked in the store and saw that they still had a huge line to get through. I could not believe it. I said, "Really? Are you kidding me? I just walked out of here a minute ago." The smirk is what sent me over the edge however. I could understand the fact that it was past closing time and I would have been more than willing to take care of it the next day. However, the smirk on the worker's faces, and their complete disregard for service pushed me over the line. As a new homeowner I had been looking forward to purchasing a lot of tools and supplies from this store. Now, due to the way I was treated, I will never set foot again in this store nor will I spend a dime in any ace hardware. I will be more than happy to take all of my business to Lowes even though I will have to travel a couple of extra miles out of my way. 3 Minutes! They just blew what would have been thousands of dollars spent in their store all over 3 minutes. I sure hope that getting home to their football game was worth it! In a time where business is scarce, service is the difference that people look for when choosing where to spend their money. The thought had never occurred to me to go onto YELP before until today. I feel that it is the only place where I can express my disappointment in this store. I don't know where the "fake welcome" came from, but they have always been good to me. I have never been in this store and had a person give bad advise. Usually there are people working that have been there longer than I have (10 yrs). Selection isn't big box size but not expected. One thing they could do is price match. That would get even more of my diy business. read more

Slider door screens were re screened and the fabric (screen) was loose and not done very well. Had many more to do but will not be taking any more back there. Disappointed. read more
