I wonder whether anyone else has noted in her or his review that this store has a back room where handy employees can do simple repairs on household items using equipment that customers don't have to purchase!! I was at the store recently, and an employee who is a retired mechanical engineer rethreaded a hole in a vintage metal bookend for me (using a single screw that I purchased at the store) so that it will hold together tightly now! I was (and am) so impressed with his skill and the store's willingness to let him make the repair for me on the spot! I was charged only $5 for this service. 4 stars to all the other employees who have been helpful, courteous, and welcoming on most occassions. I don't come here often. I can't see giving less because of 2 people, but I will say I will be choosing elsewhere for my paint needs. Had to ask the same question three times to get an answer as if I should know. I don't work in a paint department. Then to hear snarky comments is not appreciated this early in the morning. I get it. You're young and may not want to work or be helpful on a Saturday morning, but people have things they need to get done. Such an unnecessary interaction that I couldn't get away from fast enough. Went over to Benjamin Moore store. Happy to pay more or head to Home Depot next time. read more

I went here to get a key made a few months ago and after being ignored for almost 10 minutes a woman got rude with me and acted as if I was inconveniencing her and she called for the person to come make keys. The guy totally didn't know what he was doing. the keys kept flying off the machine and he tried 6 times to make the key and none of them worked. Finally he said go to a locksmith and gave me back my original key and walked away from me. Then I had to find someone to refund my money. Poor customer service. read more

If I could give this place a negative rating, it would be justified. The staff at this store is wonderful, which is the only good thing I've got to say. The management on the other hand, is beyond abhorrent. I bought some furniture and supplies from this place, and had issues from day one with the merchandise. The furniture that I bought was a rod-iron table and chairs, along with an umbrella and base. At first, the base did not include the attachment for the umbrella - which seemed like a simple enough issue. After they came to the home to inspect it, they failed to provide a replacement at promised. Only after the table blew over and warped, did it become an issue. Upon calling the store, the manager was beyond rude - he was downright insulting. His justification was that if he wasn't spoken to in a manner which he deemed appropriate, he could "say whatever he liked". Well, after numerous phone calls the table and stand were finally replaced. The only problem? They kept blowing over in the wind. Today when I called and spoke to Randy, apparently the manager on duty, he stated that he would not offer a refund even if all the merchandise was brought back. When I told him that the table continued to blow over, even with the new stand - his response? "Well of course, you've got it right out by the water!" Let me get this straight... First it's how I speak to you, and then after you physically inspect the product AND the location... TWICE... You inform me that the table is obviously going to be an issue? Make the trip elsewhere, these guys are entitled pricks. Supposedly locally owned, although we could not track down the owners. read more

Wonderful hardware store where long time employees truly know the hardware "stock" and have helped our family source random items when working on school projects ! Last two times Iv come here there chip reader on there card machine didn't work and they simply told me I couldn't buy anything and told me to get a new card, they couldn't manually enter my card or swipe it ? Ok, because every other store has that option but all you can do is turn a customer away?... anyways I went across the street to lumbermens and got what I needed for half the cost and there chip reader worked just fine, save yourself the trip and go next door. read more

I am done with this Ace Hardware. They are overpriced, and their store policies are ridiculous. They do not participate in the National Ace Hardware Rewards program, and they do not take merchandise back even with a receipt within 30 days. It's worth the drive to Lowe's in Silverdale! If you want to be ignored... Deal with rude clerks and hear all the latest Bainbridge Island gossip this is your store to go to. After years of dealing with this store where I'm basically always being ignored... Having to chase a clerk down for some basic help.. and then the clerk sign when asking a question and telling me it's over there on that aisle instead of taking the time to walking me and show me where the product is I'm done. After choosing the one product I needed being ignored as usual... I go to stand in line to check out. There is nobody in line I'm waiting and waiting while the two clerks there are two women... One is an older lady with gray hair who has worked there forever another woman with brown hair neither had a name tag on so I couldn't get their names.. I'm waiting I'm waiting why they are talking about all the latest Bainbridge gossip. Do they not see me I'm thinking to myself as I walk closer to the counter... They're just still talking about this man on the island where he lives what he buys his family.. this is such great customer service. I finally just go up to the counter where the two ladies still continue this conversation about this man on the island. I have them my product they still do not stop their conversation. The one older lady clerk even turns away from me to hear the latest gossip that the other clerk is telling her. Most be so really good gossip! I am not told hello did you find everything you need can I help you nothing. And this is not the first time this has happened to me. It's constant in the store. I take my purchases and leave almost thinking of going back and telling these ladies calmly how rude and disrespectful they are. But I figure they're probably not worth my time. I return home still fuming.. I decide to call a manager. When I call the phone the clerk that answers the phone tells me they probably can't find a manager it's lunch time. I guess they all have to go the managers together at lunch so there's not a manager in the store? Okay.. but after a lengthy time on hold there is a manager. I believe he told me his name was Matthew he listened and basically told me we're sorry that happened to you. Again he didn't seem too concerned he seemed like it was a big deal for him to listen to my complaint. So I just want to shop at this store anymore. They're overpriced rude... I don't understand when you why it's so hard for a cashier to smile and say hello did you find everything you needed thank you... To me this is basic customer service. And this store either doesn't care.... Or they feel like they're the only game in town. Not worth the stress or the hassle to shop at this place. But if you're interested in any Island gossip this is your store. I'm please bear in mind that this happens to me all the time there.. We purchased paint. It did not apply well, leaving transparent areas. Took it back and was told our surface had something on it. We washed and cleaned it ahead of time. He would not take back the paint or give us a replacement. Went elsewhere and bought another gallon. We video taped putting on Ace's paint and Benjamin Moore. We returned, showed it to Bruce and he got loud and angry. He took it back and told us never to come to the store again. In a loud voice that all could hear he said we were scamming him. Left and have never returned. All over a gallon of paint. read more

This Ace is the place to go, if I don't feel like leaving the island. It has all I generally need for a little more convenience and a little more cost, I suppose if I wanted to look at different riding mowers I can go to Poulsbo or Silverdale. I would like to thank Bruce for excellent service! I needed to replace the battery in the key fob for my car, which had died some time ago. I thought it would be a quick fix, but it turned out to be more complicated. Bruce took the time to look up the necessary info online, opened up my key fob even though it was really stuck, and got out a tiny screwdriver to take four tiny screws out and replace my battery. Then he offered to do it for my second key fob, too. This would have taken so much longer and been so much more aggravating if I had tried to do it myself, and I definitely don't have one of those tiny screwdrivers! Bruce was extremely patient and so helpful -- I really appreciate the excellent service! I just moved to Bainbridge recently, and I've already visited this store several times to buy necessities for my new home. I was surprised to discover that in addition to standard hardware supplies, they also have a large housewares/kitchen section with a lot of very nice items -- like a mini Bed, Bath and Beyond, but so much better. How can they have less than 5 stars? Just moved to the island and I've already been in here a dozen times for household needs. Service is like hometown America. Asked directions to Lytle beach and one of the staff told me to follow him and he would take me! What?!? He did, provided safe passage for my toddlers and I! WOW, how's that for customer service! I find it hard to believe this store won best customer service 7 years in a row. I don't live on BI, but was in the area. The CS was abysmal. I waited 15-20 minutes for assistance after asking at the register twice with NO help forthcoming. I called the store manager later and and got the the usual lame excuses. The last two times I went to Ace Hardware Store on Bainbridge Island I received extremely poor service. I asked for help finding products and the employee helping me didn't bother to look but the first time stated that the product didn't exist and the second time that it wasn't available. I did a detailed search of the store and found one of the products. The other product I found at Home Depot. I complained to the manager and he treated me as though I was an annoyance. From now on I will purchase my products online at another store or drive to Poulsbo Home Depot where the service is great! read more

First the good news: you have no more loyal representative than Connie, from all standpoints. Next, the rest: today I found my business with you both credit card and cash ARE NOT WORTH $1.08! This morning I needed a simple tool snake to correct a toilet problem. I thought I found one in the store, albeit it was the cheapest device, paid for it by card and left.....also having to drive about 13 miles round trip when I found it not to be either convenient or workable in my opinion. Because I've always opted for your store first for such things, I returned and politely asked Connie for a straight exchange, no more charge, believing I had alreadly "invested" more than the $1.08 difference in what I ultimately selected. Connie quite correctly had to call someone in management to ok such a decision, something this tall gentleman with the sandy hair could not understand or decide. I promptly pulled out a dollar and a quarter, then insisting appreciating knowing my business was not worth the reasonable request I had made with out any rancor of any kind. So now I will not return, being willing to drive to Silverdale or Poulsbo for service and appreciate finding out the truth of our relationship, a fact I will be happy to share with any who asked about your service....especially since much of my counsel to clients relates to customer satisfaction and community relations.
