I got an estimate from Rory at SLO Drywall and we…read moreagreed that his drywall hanger would be at my house to remove some water damaged drywall, provide some replacement insulation and to install a replacement piece of drywall on my Master Bath Ceiling. His guys were supposed to arrive at 9:00 am on July 6th. The main drywall hanger showed up at 9:30 and his helper showed up at 9:45am. They then proceeded to cut a 5 ft. by 3 1/2 foot hole in my bathroom ceiling, while insulation rained down. After looking at the wooden supports in the ceiling, they determined that they couldn't do the job because the wood was still wet. They did not have a moisture meter on them to do the determination in the correct way and they hadn't brought any replacement insulation that was originally agreed on. They left and told me that Rory would talk to me. At not time was there any mention of how to dry anything out, etc. I did call Rory and he told me that he would come in the next 2 days with a moisture meter, but that "he would call me back". I waited with no call back or any idea they actually had a plan for this problem. When Rory finally called me back on Wednesday afternoon, he was very defensive when I said that so far, I thought his company was unprofessional, late, and ill equipped to do the job we agreed on. He became very defensive and railed at me and said "well good luck finding someone else to do the job". I called someone to come out and determine how wet things were that same day and they said the moisture content was 13% (well under the allowable 16% to hang the drywall). In that conversation with Rory he said he would charge me $150 for a "minimum service charge" and I said okay. Today I got a bill for $250 for that service charge and after I called Rory back about as to why it was increased to $250 , he said that it was what we agreed (it wasn't). I feel I was taken advantage of and Rory treated me very unprofessionally and I hope this review will help other people decide what type of company this is and what type of owner Rory is. Beware!

She was incredibly disinterested and when we tried to ask her questions she scoffed at me. Would not recommend this place to anyone due to the lack of customer service and disregard for customers that walk in the door. I was really hoping to get some good, valuable information but the sales associate was absolutely useless. For being a "family owner business" or so they say, this place has a lot of work and re-work / re-training to do. Definitely a huge disappointment.

The quote was extensive with several options for deck cleaning, simple window washing, and a high-end window cleaning that included screens and detailing frames and sills. He was quite talkative and a bit outspoken. I like dealing with an owner/operator as opposed to a sales professional. Chas is a little rough around the edges, but I could tell he would take a professional approach based on our conversation and decided to give him a try. I went with his "Dutch Experience" but excluded the deck cleaning. Work Quality - As a commercial cleaning contractor I appreciate the professional job he and his helper did. The process used was technically correct, and the results were excellent. Again, Chas was a little outspoken during his conversation with my wife, but she has tough skin and is not easily offended. Price - I've had other window washing contractors, and Chas is certainly on the high end of the pricing spectrum. Current labor costs, workers comp, and liability insurance are much higher now than in the past, so I understand the pressure to adjust pricing accordingly. Still, I feel the price-point wasn't completely justified. Would I Use Chas Again? - Likely.

I will summarize the important points here so you can understand the issue in 60 seconds or less. I gave Chas a scope of work I wanted done and he emailed me a quote of $4323.50. I thanked him by email and said "At these prices I think I owe it to myself to get a competitive quote or two." I thought that would take me about one week to do. I assured him I would contact him with my decision one way or the other and I would not leave him hanging. This was his email response: "People living in multi-million dollar homes and lowball those who don't even own a house, it tells me you have no compassion or loyalty to help people become successful." Wow. I called him out on his unnecessary insults regarding my "compassion and loyalty" and this was his reply: "Well Robert, I'm sorry you feel this way just because someone tells you the way it is. Remember I am born/raised Dutch, and we don't mess around." Wow once again! If his responses appeal to you and trigger a desire to work with him, then Chas is the only man for you. It will be hard to find anyone who will insult you better than Chas Smit, the Dutch window washer who doesn't mess around. Update: On 5/26/2026 I received a competitive quote for the same scope of work I requested of Chas Smit. It was for $2400 from ClearviewSanLuisObispo.com. Not only did it save me almost $2000 from the Durtchman's quote, but it was delivered with great communication and excellent customer service. Almost as important, there was no drama or insults from Clearview. I look forward to working with them.

They are amazing. They arrived right on time and were wonderful to work with. Some of our planks needed replacing and our original material is no longer available. They milled solid oak to match our flooring and we can't tell the difference. A product called Rubio Monocoat was used. Our floor has never looked so good!

Phase I consisted of resurrecting a dilapidated and unsafe driveway and extending a retaining wall for level access from our driveway to the front door (while allowing for a Timber Tech patio installation next month}. Aaron's Father did some work for us several years ago so we contacted Aaron for the job. He was attentive to our needs, and provided a quick and reasonable estimate...so we accepted the quote after assessing a few other questionable estimates from other contractors. We were able to get on his schedule quickly...and the job was completed in four days! Peter and Aaron did most of the work...they, and their support crew, did an incredible job! Our neighbors commented on how good it looks and were so happy with how quickly they worked (so parking was not an issue). We had neighbors, who were out on a walk and saw the BCS sign on our jobsite, tell us about their good experience with BCS. Aaron and Peter were wonderful in handling the potential problem areas of the project, and offered great advice on the best way to resolve the issues. They just completed the project this afternoon, and the finished product way outshines our expectations! The slope improvements (we live on a hill}, and the incorporation of the wall extension to ensure a smooth transition to our front door from the driveway, improved accessibility and obviously increased our property value! Now we can effectively launch into Phase II (Timber Tech Patio), Phase III (Custom Fence} and Phase IV (Front Yard Turf, Garden Wall, Plantings and Paver Borders).
