Nostalgic does not stand behind their work. They came out several times to convert a wood burning fireplace to gas burning log fireplace with a remote. The work seemed very "shotty" and unsafe. The Gas fireplace never worked on a consistent basis. Each time I called Roy to come out and repair, he wanted to be paid for the service call. Finally, he refused to come out and repair his poor work unless he was paid ahead of time. Stay away........ the only reason he exists is because there is no-one else around that does the same work. He just cares about getting his money and not satisfying a customer by performing professional work. read more

I waited for the perfect opportunity to share my story on Yelp. Once I saw all the recent one star reviews I knew now was the time to strike. Its all about the numbers Roy. All of these one star reviews cannot be lies. It all points back to you and your con artist business. I advise all you to please adhere to these warnings on Yelp about Nostalgic's and steer clear of this so called establishment. I have never filled out a Yelp review before until this horrific encounter with Nostalgic's. I felt compelled to warn others so that no one else is victimized buy Roy's lies and over pricing. In response to Roy's revised statement: I would've been a true moron Roy if I would've agreed to let you back into my home to overcharge me again and have your apprentice stink up my restroom. The fact that Roy called me and wanted me to remove my review is harassment and will not be tolerated on any level. Most hard working people here on the central coast are tired of being taken of advantage of by predators like you Roy who capitalize on the lack of choices we have out in this rural area. I would love Roy if you would change your business and turn your work ethics around. My first experience with Nostalgic's was in 1995. I had two gas fireplace inserts installed in my 2700 square foot home. It turns out that by keeping one pilot light on one fireplace, we were warm in the cool coastal weather at a nominal gas price. In the fifteen years we lived there, these fireplace inserts worked perfectly. With that in mind, I called Nostalgic's again to place a new gas insert into my new home here in San Luis. It is a see through fireplace, meaning its in the middle wall between the family and living room. A new beautiful insert has been installed and again the pilot light is keeps us warm. A friend asked for a reference for a fireplace insert installer so I was trying to remember and I still have the quotes from the on the last insert one we had done in San Luis in 2013. That one has been absolutely perfect. No problems and in a rental with students. We had two others done by Roy in Arroyo Grande in 2008 that are used EVERY DAY. I recall only one issue in probably 15 years and these guys were an absolute pleasure. It takes a lot of time to write reviews and it is no surprise that most of them are bad. Just do the math for yourself, these guys have been in business for like 25 years and they have 4 bad reviews. On two separate occasions, I was led to believe, as a DIY guy, I could trust Roy and the Nostalgic team to help me buy the parts I needed to install a wood burning stove. Both times, they acted as though they were helping, when in fact, they were selling me parts I couldn't use and then charging me more money to restock the items. I had submitted a very detailed plan with exact measurements and asked for the things I would need to complete the install. I should have laid out the parts before leaving the store; but, it never entered my mind that I was being taken advantage of. Con artist is the perfect label. Not sure about this company's craftsmanship - I couldn't get past the assaulting customer service. I made an appointment for 2:30 to have some minor repairs made to our fireplace before the sale of our house. At 3:00 I called Brian (office manager) and asked when I could expect the tech to show up. He got right back to me and said he'd be there in an hour. I planned to have my husband at the house for his arrival. The tech showed up earlier than expected and missed my husband. I explained that my husband was on his was (around the corner in fact). I mentioned that he was over 1.5 hours late for our original appointment time and asked for some flexibility. He told me that he wasn't my "whipping boy" and to hold on. Did I mention this was Roy the owner of the company?! We won't ever do business with people who lack simple respect - I caution others! read more

We hired Nostalgic's to install a gas fireplace. When we contacted them about an issue with the finished product, they were very unprofessional. In fact, they walked out in the middle of a discussion about our options, got in their truck and drove off. The installation is still not complete, as they were to come and attach the surround to the fireplace. read more
