I had standing water in my 2-month old dishwasher. I cleaned out the filters and everything but I wasn't sure what else to do. I called Scott, left him and VM and he called me back within the hour. When I told him the brand of dishwasher I have (a Bertazzoni), he informed me he does service that brand; however, he proceeded to talk me through a few different things to try to fix it myself. I left Scott a message when he was on vacation. He called me right after his vacation and scheduled a diagnostic visit next day. When he was on the phone with me, he'd pretty much already figured out what the problem my oven had. After the first visit, he confirmed the issue which is a broken heating element. A few days later, he came and replaced it. My oven was fixed! I've been baking in the past two weeks, and it's been working well! Scott is very responsive, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. My 10yo dryer quit drying. Scott came over promptly, had that thing unassembled completely in 10 minutes, showed me exactly what the problem was (broken heating element), ordered the needed part, replaced it two days later, reassembled it in another 10 minutes, didn't charge me an arm and a leg, and it's back to work like nothing was wrong. read more

OH WOW. The positive reviews are spot on. Scott called me back right away and "problem solved" with me over the phone. He absolutely knew what he was talking about and knew the make and model walk throughs. He pretty much confirmed what I figured was wrong with appliance and gave me a very honest work up and price to repair. I chose to not have Scott service my 15 year old refrigerator, based off his input, as it would be in interest to get a new fridge anyway. Scott came out to look at our fridge which was not making ice or dispensing water. He charged us $185.00 to look at it and provide an estimate for repair. $185 for an estimate, I felt totally ripped off. Will not use him again. If you use him you might want want to ask him how much he will charge you if he looks at it can't fix it on the spot. I had a damaged washer/dryer combo unit in a tiny alcove. I called 5 repair places looking for someone to help me with a combo unit, but many places won't work on them. Scott saved the day! He even had some earlier availability so I got my washer/dryer fixed even sooner and on budget. Scott also taught me about my unit and how I can make simple repairs in the future and how best to access it. Great service and a great teacher is a gift to a first time home owner. Having trouble with my garbage disposal and my dishwasher this afternoon. I was going to call O'neill plumbing but found Scott through one of the yelper's reviews of O'Neil. I called him and he quickly called me back to let me know that he doesn't service my Ravenna/Bryant neighborhood nor does his brother, Mark. Bummer, right? Well he was kind enough to answer a few of my stressed out questions over the phone. He offered me some great advice on my dishwasher, and suggested that I try to find someone like a reputable handy man to fix my garbage disposal versus spend a fortune on a $$$ plumber. I'd give Scott 6 stars if possible. A couple weeks ago, I came home to a washer that was full of wet clothes and water at the end of a cycle. My wife admitted to "possibly" overloading the laundry machine. Not being handy at home appliance repairs (I don't even own a good toolset), I did the only thing I knew.....went to Google. Googling "laundry machine won't drain" found links to Youtube, with a dozen different ways to try and fix the problem. Knowing that I'd probably make the problem worse, I turned to Yelp for help. Searching for appliance repairman, I found a few different options, but all of them peppered with negative reviews of "bait and switch" tactics and other typical saleman approaches. Depressed and resigned that I would have to just pay someone to show up and cross my fingers that they'd be honest, I then came across someone's review suggesting to call Scott Wiseman. What a relief to see a repairman that had such a shining reputation on Yelp! The downside.....he was so busy, he only serviced West Seattle and I was in downtown! However, I decided to call. Scott, as many other reviewers have mentioned, is genuinely out to help. When I told him of my problem and my location, he said, "unfortunately, don't service that area, but I have a few minutes, tell me what's going on." I then went on to tell him my problem, and he went on to suggest that if I felt comfortable with it, pull the cover off the laundry machine and check the pump. He gave me 5-10 minutes of pointers and suggestions, and told me that most of the time, when the water won't drain, its usually the pump. He also gave me the name of his brother, Mark, and said that he may service the area, and to give him a call if I couldn't fix it. I then called Mark, and he confirmed everything Scott said, and told me he could come out in a week and it would cost around $100 to fix if I couldn't fix it myself. Energized and confident after my conversation with Scott and Mark, I set out and spent an hour on the machine. With a borrowed shopvac, a screwdriver, and a pair of pliers, I removed a sock that got sucked into the pump. Problem fixed! Mark and Scott could have easily scheduled me for a time and make a quick $100. However, they saw the problem could be resolved easily, and encouraged me to try. If any problems ever come up again that require appliance repair, I'll be hiring the Wisemans! read more

What I'm impressed about him is that he gave me instructions through phone first - ofcourse for free. I did what he told me and it basically worked! Our dryer has been driving us crazy with a loud squeaking sound that can be heard throughout the house. I called Scott based on a referral and he was able to come out within two days. Naturally, the dryer refused to make a peep while he was here, even after I put a load of wet towels in it! None-the-less, Scott quickly took the dryer apart and examined all the areas that might cause a squeak (apparently there are a number of them). He recommended not trying to just start replacing parts, which can be expensive. Instead, he sanded down a set of pads, which can be a source of the noise and is an easy fix. The dryer hasn't squeaked since and Scott saved us a ton by not trying to just throw expensive parts at a problem who's source couldn't be identified in the first place. I called Scott, though he doesn't service beyond West Seattle, and though he tried to trouble shoot our refer problem over the phone, we were unable to pinpoint the problem. He then directed me to his brother Mark, at a different business number, who guided me over the phone on how to disable the beeping problem with the freezer. We used Scott once, quite a few years ago, and his diagnosis wasn't a good one. He was prompt and worked well with my wife, which I appreciated. So when our 14 year-old washing machine stopped doing the spinny thing recently, I gave him a call. Scott came that day, spent a couple hours doing diagnosis/troubleshooting with me, and gave me a rough estimate of my options to repair with a promise to call the next day. When solicited, he also gave me a frank opinion - not what I wanted to hear necessarily, but advice that I took to heart. He said I should cut my losses and buy a new machine, and when I asked for a specific recommendation he gave me details on what to avoid as well as a couple basic pointers. In addition to his no-nonsense approach to the work, I was impressed that Scott was quick to suggest something that would end his opportunity to make money from me. Two stars because he was very fast, easy to communicate with, and price was very reasonable for a diagnostic visit. It stops there, though, because he missed something pretty huge. His diagnosis was that the main circuit board was not working and that we would need to replace the entire range because that board could not be replaced. So we ordered a new one. And waited and waited because everything is backordered forever. Out of mostly frustration at how long it was taking the new range to show up I asked my husband if Scott ever tried turning it off and on again. Nope. Turned it off and on again and everything works like a dream. So... he probably is great when things are super broken. Like I said, he was easy to work with. But he missed the most basic troubleshooting step, which caused us months of irritation (and would have cost a couple thousand bucks had I not figured it out in time to return the new one). read more

My dishwasher wasn't draining, and I couldn't tell why. When Mark Wiseman arrived, he sat down on the floor and listened to the dishwasher. He had worked with GE for 20 years, so that's all he had to do to diagnose the problem. Mark explained everything as he went, clearly enjoyed what he does, and charged such a reasonable rate. 5 stars for a job well done. There was a paper receipt that had gotten sucked into the downdraft range by the fan and Scott was able to remove that paper receipt, all in one piece, in under 5 minutes, and without taking the range apart. I'm impressed! He also checked the duct system and said it looked fine. And I hadn't scheduled the dishwasher initially but the dishwasher sat slightly crooked on the floor, so Scott secured it to the woodframe on both sides and it looks much better. No work needed to be done on the dishwasher as it is working just fine, so even though this was just a cosmetic fix, it is still nice to have the dishwasher sitting straight and not crooked. Plus he charges a fair and affordable price as well. Just really happy with the work. read more

I would recommend to anyone. When I was out of town, on the East Coast, my fridge stopped working. Not only did he answer his phone after hours, he worked directly with my friends who were house sitting, explaining everything and was very accommodating, including coming over on a Saturday morning! The agitator on our 11+ year-old Whirlpool washer stopped spinning. I got quotes from a couple name-brand service places and - based on the estimates - was thinking maybe it was time to just buy a new one. Decided to see if I could find an independent to come take a look. Found Scott online. Called him at 3:15pm on a Saturday and he was here at 4pm. Had the machine fixed in less than 15 minutes - for significantly less than the other places quoted. He was friendly, knowledgeable, thorough and efficient. I live in West Seattle and had a dryer that broke down, so I did what most of us do in this neighborhood: I checked out the recommendations page on the West Seattle Blog. When it came to appliance repair recommendations, Scott Wiseman's name consistently came up. Other reviewers praised him for his honesty, pricing, and accessibility. They also complained that he usually had a packed schedule and that it would usually take anywhere from 2-5 days to see him. All in all, the reviews were accurate. Although he wasn't able to see me immediately, he was able to see me in three days. When he came, he was courteous, friendly, and knowledgeable. As other reviewers noted, he's good at troubleshooting and was able to run a series of tests to narrow down and locate the reason why my dryer was no longer working. Once he determined what was wrong with my appliance (a burnt fuse) he took the time to explain to me several reasons why the fuse could have burned out as well as what my choices were in terms of fixing the appliance (e.g. did I want to repair the unit by only replacing the fuse, repair the unit by replacing the fuse and a thermostat for added assurance, or did I want to replace the unit?). He also was quick to state that he couldn't guarantee that we fixed the problem. He was relatively certain that was the case, but he couldn't guarantee it. And you know what? I appreciated his honesty. It's always scary working with someone new because you never know if they're good at their job, if they're the type of repairman that will try to up-sell you on parts or services that you don't need, or if they're going to over-charge you simply because they can. While I can't guarantee that I would have been given a lower price elsewhere because I didn't get bids from other service repairmen, I can say that Scott is knowledgeable about his craft, he didn't try to get me to purchase parts or pay for him to complete tasks that I didn't need, and the final cost seemed fair. What can I say? Scott really earns these top reviews, and I'm glad I checked Yelp before calling someone. I had a broken dryer, and Scott took the time to understand my problem over the phone and give me an estimate (guesstimate, really, since he hadn't seen it) before setting up an appointment. Communication was very easy, and he arrived right in the expected time window, with a 15 minute call beforehand to let me know he was on his way. He was able to take care of the problem quickly and the cost was a little less than the phone estimate, very reasonable. This will be a strange review because I had a good experience a few years ago, and a terrible experience more recently. Not sure what's up with that. Here is the good and the bad: Good - I had an appliance that needed a new control board a few years back, and he replaced it, no problem - and issues since. Bad - I had him look a broken appliance, and he gave a very inaccurate diagnosis. I wouldn't have minded the inaccurate diagnosis so much (those things happen), except he didn't even look in the right place to make that kind of diagnosis. I later lifted off the panel that he had removed, and the problem element he indicated wasn't even there. Literally, there would have been no way for him to make essentially ANY diagnosis of the like from the panel he removed. Also, the diagnosis made absolutely no logical sense based upon the symptoms we were experiencing. Very weird. He told us we had to just replace the appliance, took his payment for the 5 minutes he had spent with us, and too his leave. He was well-paid for his 5-minutes of doing essentially nothing. Really confused by the difference, but won't risk calling him again. I'm giving him 2 stars instead of 1 because he did fine for us a few years ago. read more

For some background, I own my own condo and am a single 28 year old woman. I have never called a repair man in my whole life. After living with my dryer squeaking noise for way too long, I googled a repair service. Since Scott had fantastic reviews I decided to give him a call. I described the issue to him, sent him the model number of my dryer and when he came by, 30 minutes later it was fixed. My fridge stopped working yesterday and I was told Sears could get to me by the weekend (6 days later). Unsatisfied I looked at the yelp reviews and found Scott! He scheduled the service call visit later that afternoon and gave me a two hour window for the call. Scott arrived with his tools during the promised time and quickly diagnosed the problem, with the dollar amount likely needed to fix it. He even explained what he was looking for and pointed out the signs that confirmed something wasn't right. He was very tidy leaving no mess behind. He does only accept cash or check, but I am pleased by how quick he was able to resolve my issue and under the quoted amount! read more

The summary: quick response but incorrect diagnoses. About 2 months ago my washing machine starting banging in the spin cycle. I found Scott on yelp, with lots of great reviews, and left him a message. He called back very quickly and was straightforward in telling me that the main bearing had gone out of the washer and I should just trash it and get a new one. I'm sure he was trying to save himself and me a lot of time in coming out to look at it in person. I asked if he was sure about his diagnoses and he said 95%. Not wanting to dump a washing machine in the landfill if I didn't have to, let alone the $1500 that the machine cost new, I looked up a bunch of stuff online. Short story is that I took the machine apart and saw that it was not the main bearing that had failed, but the "spider" part that attaches the tub of the washer to its axle. Turns out that part is guaranteed for life by Whirlpool and I got a replacement for free (though not without a tussle over the phone, calling in a supervisor, etc). My washer is back together and works great. Caveat: Not many people would have the tenacity or courage (stupidity?) to attempt this kind of repair, and it took me lots of research and two weeks to take the machine apart and put it back together. In fairness to Mark, he had no way of knowing that I would be interested or capable of doing it. However, I still feel he should have said something more detailed, like "taking the machine apart to get to this area is very time consuming and will cost a lot of money" instead of telling me to trash it. I give him two stars simply because he did answer my call right away. read more
