I called him as our dishwasher wasn't working as expected. He had me look at some things over the phone the asked me to do some tests and call him back when done. Did that and we did more tests a couple more times. In the end, he said he could put a new valve in for $250 that might fix it but I asked what he would do if it were his and he said he'd replace it. No $$ changed hands and he doesn't do installs so even if I buy from his brother, he won't profit. I can't imagine calling anyone else for my appliance repair needs. read more

Mark is a must call related to any appliance repair. Our Thermador washer stopped draining and i called a few service providers and everyone was ok we'll come over and i'll be a huge fee without knowing if we can fix your problem. Mark on the other hand called and asked about the problem and over 2-3 chats provided guidance on how to trouble shoot it and asked to send photos so he could validate that he can fix the problem before even coming. In the end his suggestions allowed me to fix the small problem myself and saved a trip and an unnecessary repair bill. We had a microwave go bad. Who fixes a microwave, eh? Well, I'm not one to make more trash in the world. I talked to Mark who told me he doesn't usually fix microwaves. He then proceeded to prompt me on what kind of things to look for. Through a long series of phone calls and photos sent to him, he thought he might know what was wrong. He ordered a part and then we waited, and waited, and waited. Monday he called and let me know the part finally came in. Tuesday he was over and looking at it. He found and fixed a second problem he found. When I mentioned our gas cook top was acting strange he took a look at that too. Everything is working well now. Mark is always very responsive and helpful. I've had him come out twice in a couple years to fix different things wrong with my Samsung dryer. He always does a little extra to make sure things are secure. The first time he zip tied my hot and cold water hoses so they wouldn't fall out of the wall. I love the Wisemans. All of them. I particularly like Mark. He is direct, only remembers me by the make and serial number on my appliances, and will also tell you at that point whether he will even come look at your problem. He hatesKorean front-loading washing machines (he hates them a little bit, period), and he is not a fan of Thermador ovens, so will not come out to replace a heating coil element thing in the oven. This is the ONLY reason I do not give him 5 stars, AND the reason he should get 5 stars: He KNOWS his stuff. He has LIVED appliances his whole life, and so have his brothers and nephew. Oh yes, I see why the solid 5 star theme here. I have a landlord who's not so much help in the landlording department but she did connect me with Mark so for that, she wins. I have a mid-century apartment, complete with a pink push button countertop stove and matching cabinet oven. Unsurprisingly, these aren't easy to find parts for/troubleshoot but Mark was like an appliance psychic/ninja - he heard my troubles, had me text him a photo and BAM! He guessed exactly what was wrong which wasn't fixable, but before you frowny face, he was able to tell me how to diagnose if a workaround was possible and BAM! It was! So yes, I am delighted that he was a grown-up, responsible enough to get back to me in a timely manner, was polite, and helpful. You rarely see any of those qualities anymore. I do not hold it against him that he does not work in my neighborhood. Yelp does not allow businesses to be that granular about the areas they service. I've worked with Mark for issues on appliances at two different properties (a duplex and a single family home, originally places I lived but now functioning as rentals) and basically will never call any other appliance repair service. He's always incredibly candid about whether you even need him to show up or not, walks you through diagnostics and sometimes repairs over the phone, and has always steered me right about whether it's better to repair or replace an appliance. I've called him for issues related to a gas range, washers and dryers at three different residences, and a dishwasher. He's never steered me wrong, always charged a more-than-fair price when he makes a service call, shows up when he says he will, and tells you when he's not 100% certain a repair will do the trick. Mark Wiseman reminds me of one the characters in the original Ghostbusters--a man on a mission to set things straight. He ain't afraid of no ghosts in your machinery! Dressed in a button down shirt and carrying a briefcase, he made a beeline for my fridge--as if he were considerably more familiar with the layout and contents of my condo than I am or will ever be--immediately confirmed the problem we had pre-identified over the phone, and proceeded to operate on my fridge, wielding a drill and turkey baster, all the while lecturing on the nature of machines that keep vegetables cool, home maintenance and the Universe. It was as if some higher power sent this Dan Aykroyd-ish guardian angel of microwaves and dishwashers. The problem was a fairly common ice/debris-clogged drain hole deep within the freezer compartment causing an alarming amount of water to drain directly into the fridge compartment. After three months of being tortured by gurgling and dripping sounds, not to mention wearing out half a dozen sponges and living in constant fear of the fridge door bursting open at 3 a.m. and a huge deluge issuing forth, I called Mark. When I asked about a YouTube where I had seen some guy dangle a wire from the defrost heating element down the drain tube to keep ice from forming (and why didn't the engineers at Whirlpool come up with this themselves, huh?), Mark immediately whipped a gadget out of this pocket and said "I was about to do just that, only better." It's now been several months and my fridge hasn't leaked a drop of moisture into the compartment. My cheese and stale croissants are dry. Not only that, my older-model fridge seems a lot quieter all around, like a cranky animal finally tamed into docile contentment. And to think, I was contemplating getting a whole new fridge--Mark spoke up on its behalf, and now I have warmer feelings for my "cool-natured" mechanical housemate. Plus, as other reviewers have noted, Mark didn't hesitate to assess the condition of my other appliances, including the dishwasher, disposal and clothes washer hoses, all of which he gave a clean bill of health. I had asked him to bring steel braided hoses to replace the rubber ones on the washer, but Dr. Wiseman closed his eyes, felt the tubes, and decided they were healthy and could stay. No extra charge... Bottom line, with Mark's help I feel less apprehensive as a fairly new homeowner. Our refrigerator died right before a trip, and I called him during our trip, thinking that I would set up a service call for when we got back. Instead, he told me to call him when we got back. On Sunday (!) he walked me through a few troubleshooting steps and made a diagnosis (bad thermostat). He got the part on Monday, was at our house on Tuesday, and was in and out, charging $200+tax. I never thought fridges could even break. So I had no idea what to expect when the huge side by side door fridge in my new apartment wouldn't start up. I called approximately 4 or 5 different appliance repair stores including Sears. Most couldn't make it to my home for days and others just didn't service my brand. Finally I spoke to Mark and he immediately agreed to come to my home to look at it. He was very considerate about my hardwood floor and laid down a rag before putting any tools or moving the fridge around. Additionally he had to work pretty hard to get my fridge around a tight corner to look at its backside. And since he had predicted what the problem might have been he had the right part to replace. My fridge was up and running within half an hour of his visit. He put everything right back as he found it. And also gave me some great tips on how extend the life of my kitchen appliances. What I liked best was that he was very upfront about the costs and gave me an estimate before doing anything with the fridge. This guy rocks! My washing machine was broken and I had taken apart the whole thing and thought it was the transmission. I called Mark up and he returned my call pronto. Then we walked through all the things I had done and he asked me questions in order to diagnose over the phone. His conclusion was the same as mine--that I needed a new transmission/clutch--and that it was best just to get a new one. It was great to talk to someone on the phone and squash a possible fruitless service right then and there. The other places I called before Mark wanted approx. $80 - $100 just to show up and diagnose! Thanks Mark, you saved me a bundle because I still wasn't sure if I had correctly triaged the problem. He will give you golden tips and advice beyond the repair itself, which helped me better understand my fridge, and how it worked. He is subtly fast and smooth. He and his brothers are appliance technicians through out the city - and have been working for over a decade. What really won me over was when I called him nearly 6 weeks after his repair, as I had questions about a part I bought. He spent at least 20 minutes on the phone with me, trouble-shooting and advising. He invited me to call him back if his advice didn't work well. A really honest and nice man. I called Mark about a Kitchen Aid oven that wasn't heating up on Bake or Broil. Mark asked a bunch of questions, had me send over some photos, and even called us back later in the evening (when most appliance repair places are closed for the day) and walked us through a couple of steps to test hypotheses. He finally told us that it's not something he can fix. Amazing to find someone so honest and willing to take the time to help out over the phone. I just had another 5 star service from Mr. Wiseman, which I'm happy to report since you never really know about a service until you've tried it a couple times. I had Mark out to fix my squeaky dryer, and he had the whole thing completely fixed in about 45 minutes. In addition to already coming equipped with the part I needed, Mark replaced my dryer hose free of charge! To top it all off, he switched the hinge on the dryer door so it now swings in a way that makes it easier to load from the washer next to it, also done free of charge. I'm sorry to see that other reviewers have had some billing issues, but my bill was less than the top of his stated range for the type of repair I had done. Mark carefully informed me about additional parts and repairs, giving me the option to upgrade the service or not. I chose to forgo a few suggested options, and the dryer is working great anyway.
