Difficult office staff, wouldn't it be nice if you had a health concern if people were helpful and pleasant

My doctor referred me to Dr Zashin and I was able get an appointment fairly quickly. I had seen a number of rheumatologists in the area without any signficant help. Dr Zashin was able to diagnose my condition and put me on a treatment plan that was not suggested by any of the other rheumatologists. I feel he gave me my life back and have been quite pleased with his office and excellent medical care. While he does not participate with my insurance plan, the experience has been excellent and I highly recommend him. read more

Called to make new patient appointment. They were very nice and upfront telling me that they absolutely are accepting new patients but there is a catch. Brace yourself-- THEY DO NOT ACCEPT ANY INSURANCE. YOU CAN FILE OUT OF NETWORK IF YOU CHOOSE. Here are the costs they quoted: 1st visit --"very thorough & includes lab work with about an hour w doctor is $1000 !!!! Follow up visits "are much more reasonable" at a mere $350 each!!!! I am sure he is good, but obviously missed the message of taking care of people is the reason to go into medicine, not to rob them blind. No wonder our medicine system is so broken. Dr. Zashin is a god send. I was diagnosed with an auto immune about 1.5 years ago. The original Rhuemetologist (which took 6 months to get into) would not work with me and instead was incredibly demeaning when I did not want to go the route she wanted. I never went back to her and instead found Dr. Zashin (who took 2 weeks to get into). He doesn't take insurance so it was a pain to dish out so much money up front but WORTH EVERY PENNY. The first appointment he spent over an hour with me discussing the diagnosis and talking about how to treat it. He listened to what I wanted to do and graciously told me he didn't think that was the best route but was willing to try it as it wouldn't hurt. When that didn't work he found another option that wasn't an immune suppressant (which I didn't feel I needed yet) that has helped me a ton. He has regular follow up appointments, has called me twice HIMSELF to discuss blood worth and other things that needed attention. If you are looking for someone that you feel like is a partner in getting your health back on track and is willing to work with what you are comfortable with then Dr. Zashin is worth the money. I really didn't know how many stars to give Dr. Zashin in this review. Everything positive that's been written is absolutely true. Dr. Zashin is probably one of the finest doctors I've ever met. He's also a caring, compassionate man who I believe cares for his patients as individuals. I really can't praise him enough for his skills, kindness, warmth, and concern for his patients. I understand his dedication to his profession and not wanting to be either distracted or beholden to the government/insurance companies but remaining free and unencumbered to care for people in need. How can anyone not respect and admire a physician like this? The answer is that you can't appreciate something you can't have. I know that his decision not to work with insurance companies is based on his desire to practice medicine without the restrictions placed on him by unreasonable insurance companies, or the government that demands to control his practice. I've been on both sides of this issue and totally understand. But the unfortunate result is that the people who desperately want this lovely man to take care of them are shut out if they don't have money. Obviously, this means not just the indigent but the single mom who has a minimum wage job or the senior that relies on their Social Security check to get them through each month, but also the middle class family man who provides for his family but lives from paycheck to paycheck as well as the person who has no credit or no credit cards. I'm sorry this is so long but I've wanted to say this for too long and have let my feelings take over. I just want to say that Dr. Zashin is a wonderful doctor that I'll never be able to see again because I don't have enough money. read more

He's a brilliant physician. I see some comments here about insurance, and wanted to add something. While he does not accept insurance up front for payment of services. You can file it with your insurance company on your own and be reimbursed. I do this. If you can't do this because it is a financial burden, you can see someone who does accept insurance up front. There is no reason to give Dr. Zashin a poor rating because you are unable to pay for your care. Go elsewhere or put the fee on a credit card and file with your insurance. read more

This man is the real deal. No, he does not take insurance so I guess poor people are out of luck. He is too meticulous to run a revolving door with thousands of patients as others do giving substandard care and often over looking important issues. He is extraordinarily talented and prefers to give top care to fewer patients rather than crappy care to thousands. He is careful to do only what's necessary so it is as least costly for the patients. Most people can somehow magically come up with money when they truly want something. Don't hate on him for being a perfectionist and dedicated to providing excellent care to his patients. read more

Dr. Zashin diagnosed my rare disease very quickly. I find him, and his medical team, to be extraordinarily skilled and empathetic. I'll never forget when I was so devastated by my condition that I began to cry. Dr. Zashin knew exactly what to say to calm my fears and give me hope. Hope for a normal life. Amen to that Laura C.!!!!! However, my wife used to work at a clinic dealing with insurance and suspects he doesn't take insurance because insurance companies can dictate how to distribute treatment to a greater extent than most may know. Apparently someone without a medical degree sitting in a cubicle somewhere knows which tests and treatments to perform better than the doctor. That's why our medical system is broken. I know the pain CS is feeling because I'm sure he's highly cynical of the revolving door, substandard care you mentioned. Read his review of Luis A Mignucci , MD and others to illustrate my point. I know at most clinics, NOT most private practices I should add, I feel like I'm in the insurance equivalent of a puppy mill. I really wish CS would reconsider and pay the money to see Dr. Zashin because I know he'd be pleasantly surprised. I just hope he's not the type of person who'll spend $1000 on a new cell phone without blinking an eye, but spending that amount on his health and well-being is suddenly unacceptable. Dr. Zashin is outstanding. You get what you pay for as his patient. My first visit went as follows. I completed the new patient paperwork prior to my visit. I arrived on time which is always a few minutes earlier than the appointment time. I checked in and had a seat in the empty waiting area. I don't remember waiting long at all, and I can get antsy very quickly at doctors' offices. Then he (the doctor!!!) came and got my wife and me from the waiting area. We all went into his office and sat down to go over my history and get to know each other a little prior to the exam. It's a lot more conducive to talk about your issues in that environment opposed to being half-naked in a gown sitting on an uncomfortable exam table. He then took us to the exam room and asked me to change into a gown. When I was changed I believe a nurse came in and took my vital signs. Then the doctor came back in and performed his exam. It was one of the few times the exam lasted minutes rather than seconds. (I say that because some past exams at ortho places literally took less than 30 seconds.) Afterwards I did the labs and imaging he thought were necessary. I wanted some additional imaging done that he didn't think was necessary for diagnosis but I insisted so he relented. I, not he, wasted my own money when they showed nothing useful. It did provide me with some peace of mind though, and they were just cheap x-rays so it was worth it to me at the time. Before I left he came in to explain what was to come and gave me a signed copy of his book. I left feeling like a human being and was optimistic for the first time in a very long while. I went for a follow-up to go over my tests, and he thought it wise to rule out another condition before starting the treatment plan since the meds could actually make things worse if it went undiagnosed. He then referred me to another specialist. It was during this period that it was discovered that I had stage 3 cancer, as well as a rheumatoid condition. Dr. Zashin didn't find it, but I credit his compassionate and thorough care for saving my life. My wife and I could see that he actually listened and BELIEVED what I was telling him, and he investigated further based on that. Other "doctors" seem to already have their minds made up before they even see you. To CS, I hope you find the care you need at a price you deem acceptable. I can't say enough good things about Dr Zashin. A previous doctor did not fully diagnose my conditions and did not offer me all treatment options. On our first visit Dr Zashin listened intently to a long list of my symptoms and ran extensive testing. Once a diagnosis was confirmed he discussed multiple treatment options including medication, other modalities, and observation giving me the pros and cons of the various treatments. He gave me hope. My family and I have always felt like we were in very good hands with somebody who practices at the very highest levels of expertise within his specialty. Dr Zashin is also a Professor in the Department of Rheumatology at Southwestern Medicl School in Dallas so he is very well versed in mainstream and alternative and cutting edge treatments. He has always taken the time to present all of these options and has always spent more time with me than any other doctor that I've ever seen. My experience has been that he does not walk out of the room until all of my questions have been answered.
