She apologized profusely for the out of order elevator (it needed a part that was delayed), and offered to help carry our bags to the 2nd floor when she could not find a first floor room for us. We didn't want her to work any harder than she was, so we declined her offer. But by the time we got our luggage, and came back in the front door to go to our room, she had good news. A first floor room had opened up! Cleaning staff was pleasant and helpful, too. When I checked out, the gentleman was friendly and asked about our stay. So staff gets 5 stars. The room was as clean and nice as the lobby - and Heather! It had a king size bed, easy chair, work chair at the desk area, a mini fridge with working freezer, microwave, flat screen TV, clock radio, good lighting, and plenty of outlets. The only unusual part of the room was the shower. It was long and narrow and didn't need a shower curtain. It might have looked strange, but it worked well. 5 stars for the room. The downside of being on the first floor was being under an active early riser. Up at 7, this room above us had someone who paced from the bed to the door to the bed and back again. This person seemed to be bouncing a ball or doing jumping jacks when not pacing. This was something out of Red Roof's control, but the uncarpeted floors did not muffle the sound. We had to get up early, but not THAT early. Due to "sanitary concerns," this Red Roof Inn stopped offering complimentary breakfast. We think it was more of a staffing issue, but it was a minor setback. With McDonald's next door, and Waffle House across the street, we were able to enjoy breakfast for a nominal cost each of the three mornings of our stay. The drawback was the size of our party. Since we were here for a wedding, the first morning we were a party of 9. The next morning, we were a party of 21. It would have been better to eat in the breakfast area. The exit door by our room was supposed to be keyed, but that did not work. So it was not secure for safety. For this, broken elevator, and lack of breakfast, 3 stars. Our room was not expensive, and it was comfortable. As I said before, we were here for a wedding, and the accommodations were fine for this. Many of the attendees were at this hotel, so we were able to carpool to the venues, and to visit with each other in our rooms before the big day and afterwards. For this, 5 stars. We arrived early in the afternoon having driven only from the Georgetown/Lexington area where we spent the night in a Hampton Inn. We were able to check in when we arrived - YAY! And and luggage cart was available and elevator waiting to take us up to the fourth floor. Most of our team was also on 4 - a few on 3. Which is fine. The first thing I did when returning the cart was check out the fitness center - BOO. At least this one had dumbbells - better than the prior hotel but nowhere near the luxurious and well-stocked fitness centers of our prior trips to TN. The good news - I spent all weekend at the field and didn't have the opportunity to work out here. I also was OK just getting plenty of walking in at the softball park as I've been overdoing my strength training. Our room was 2 double beds - nice and roomy, good TV, fridge, and coffee maker. Linens clean and spacious bathroom. The one bonus amenity was EAR PLUGS! YAY YAY as the ones I packed did not help much when I used them the prior night. These were life savers - but I still slept crappy to no fault of the ear plugs or hotel - just my hubby/roommate who snored horribly. I have learned not to even try and wake him to get him to stop. He 1. Yells at me as I, too, admittedly snore some times, 2. Gets mad at me and 3. Falls back to sleep and the snoring resumes in about one minute. Or sooner. Not time for me to fall asleep. Breakfast time! We had an 8:30 game and our alarm went off at 5:45. I went downstairs a little after 6 while hubby was showering. All I ever want is fresh fruit and coffee. Nothing more. I was 1 for 2. Coffee only. NO FRUIT. So I made time during the day to stop at Food Lion and buy my own breakfast food. I cannot remember a time a hotel did not even put out some apples. Really? Nothing? I don't think this is a COVID thing as other hotels have served apples wrapped in plastic wrap (totally unnecessary - just wash them before eating them!!) Location good, parking plenty, wifi free and no sign in needed (YAY!) But HUGE strikes for the lack of fruit in the morning and the size of the fitness center. Had we have stayed longer than 2 nights, I would have made due with the fitness center and got a work out in. But the breakfast thing would still be a problem. So not getting five stars - still pondering between 3 and 4 . . . The steaming hot carafe of decaf after an evening in the cold air was just amazing and perfect. 4 stars it is!
