I'm still getting the hang of smoking a cigar as there are a plethora of nuances that I have yet to uncover and certainly, the industry is booming with brands, types, flavors, sizes, and such that it can be overwhelming. It can also get to a point where you stick with what you know and in turn it can be a bit of a closed door type of hobby as well so I'm not so well versed in terms of what to expect from a good cigar shop versus a mediocre one. That being said, based on the selection that's offered and the location of this place, Scottish Tobacco is pretty much the run of the mill brick and mortar type cigar shop. First off, the location on your Google Maps is all wrong and Waze doesn't know how to get there so take it from me, go to the SmashBurger on Piedmont and Sydney Marcus and you'll see it right across from the SmashBurger. Don't take all the turns and wind around the parking lot, just take the directions listed here and you'll find it instantly. Another confusing thing is they don't have a back entry way and how the building looks is a bit confusing as well. So I walked in and noticed just how cramped of a store it is. There are a whole bunch of products littering the aisles and you feel overwhelmed and a bit paranoid that you'll knock something over. The humidor is just as jumbled as can be and if you're looking for your favorite brands, you better hope they don't rehash their inventory because you're not going to find it in one sitting. I will say they do stock a lot more brands that I'm used to being that I'm a fan of Foundation and a new lover of A.J. Fernandez. I was glad to see that they have Brickhouse cigars. But finding a Bella Artes from A.J. Fernandez was hard especially since it was an offshoot as they didn't list that brand as one they carry on their website. So the humidor needs organization as well since trying to get a Brickhouse Toro almost made that shelf collapse while trying to see their selection. I did want to see their lounge area but apparently it's a club and you have to pay to get in which is where much of their income is from as Buckhead/Lindbergh is pretty high end in terms of the environment. Overall, this is a small place that's only available to half the population as the other half spent the money and get into the lounge area which is kind of a drag considering the fact that if you want to relax as cigars do offer that solace, you have to drop anywhere from $500-$1000 a year just to sit on a plush leather couch and watch or not watch an LED TV screen? Not a whole lot of people will do that and they'll simply go elsewhere and consider Scottish Tobacco a simple one stop shop to pick up a stick or two. If you feel gutsy and want to be a part of the lounge, then by all means but there are plenty of other places where you can go and light up your favorite Melanio or Padron maduro and not have to pay a club fee to sit on some leather plush sofas. The selection here is great though and work perusing if you have the time, and aren't claustrophobic. read more

This was a great find as I was visiting some friends and they directed me to this wonderful locale. I don't profess to be an afficionado but I was throughly impressed by the selections. To be truthful, they were too many cigars to choose from. After briefly browsing I ran across the GTO Pain Killer Cigars as they were nicely packaged, 5 total, in a 30 day humidor bag. The Maduro, Corojo, Coneticut and Double Capa did not disappoint. All great choices . . . and all great smokes. I was also overstimulated by the wide selection of lighters, cutters and other accessories. Looking forward to my next visit where I can spend more time. read more

Late post: We came here to find a cigar to find a celebratory cigar if Alabama defeats Tennessee (it's tradition). My boyfriend didn't really know what he wanted, he just didn't want something strong. He at first tried looking for something on his own. But I asked one of the gentlemen to help. I'm not sure how long I've been patronizing both locations Scottish and Churchill's. Recently I decided to visit Scottish location which its been a while. Same shopping center but they moved a few doors down. The selection is amazing-these guys are well known so they're going to have everything. I went in just looking for a liga no 9 and Olivia V, however Miguel is so knowledgeable and fun to chat with, I left with more sticks than I planned. Very chill, nice vibe lounge area, and the gentlemen in the lounge were friendly too. As a woman some shops, the guys are kinda cold like what is she doing here lol but never here. From Day one it's been great. I'm normally popping in at the Roswell location and Greg is always cool, he knows my palette and makes recommendations as well. Manny and Mike were my buddies all through the covid lockdown bs, when I'd run in and grab a stick or two. Even though this place isn't close to my house, I used to like to come here to buy expensive boxes of cigars. Today I entered the store with my wife. While I was browsing in the back, the owner/manager and a patron engaged in a loud conversation using vulgarity right in front of my wife. When I shot them a look, the man said loudly "he's shooting me a look like he's gonna do something" - referring to me. So I did. I left and I won't be back. Scottish is honestly one of the best places I've been to for a smoke. I felt welcome, comfortable and safe. Apart from them having my choice of selections that other places didn't have, they were very hospitable offering me to try different cigars on the house. I used to go to Edward's Pipe & Tobacco to get my cigar fix in Buckhead, but this is closer to home now so I have started coming here every week or two to restock the humidor. Like a lot of cigar places that I have known well, if you are a regular and you buy a lot of cigars they will hook you up. Discounts or maybe a free stick here and there. This makes me think that the profit margin on cigars is steep. There are basically two parts to the store: a walk-in humidor which takes up about a third of the floorspace, and the retail side which is full of accessories (lighters, cutters, pipes etc). The humidor is well kept. I've never had a problem with dry or poorly stored cigars. While it's not a huge humidor, it is a nice size and it is completely packed with cigar boxes. Pricing is competitive on most purchases but they have good specials. They run specials from about $4-7/cigar in a standing rack right as you walk in the humidor and have bundles of usually about 6 cigars for $20-25 on your right. You can get some really nice finds if you know what you are looking for. I've found bundles that would have retailed for easily $40 for closer to $20, but do your homework. You would be hard pressed to find a better selection or prices in this part of town. The staff is great and they always have excellent suggestions. They stay up to date on what's going on in the cigar world. read more

Met Shafi at his exclusive cigar event and I must admit, I would follow Shafi to the ends of the earth if only to enjoy a cigar with him while listening to his encyclopedic knowledge of all things cigars! To start off, he is very humble and unassuming. The night started off with Shafi just being an ordinary gentleman who was seated next to me. As our eyes crossed occasionally, he would pleasantly nod or ask how I was enjoying my cigar. He actually listened attentively to my comments and thoughts and wasn't pretentious informing me about the type of wrapper or the origin of the cigar. As the night progressed, you notice and realize that Shafi knows cigars and was very easy to talk to and offered his knowledge without prejudice. When you smoke a cigar with Shafi, you feel like a VIP Rockstar! Not only does he make you feel like you're the only person in the room, he showers you with smiles and listens to you rant about your favorite cigars and all the numerous reasons why! I'm relatively new to the cigar game, but every now and then I'll appreciate a good smoke after a meal or just to relax a bit. Given the fact that I'm not a cigar aficionado I wasn't sure where to go to get a good stogy around Atl. It was a good thing I happened to notice Scottish Tobacco while driving to Bank of America. Walking in from first impressions the store was very clean and the two gentlemen working there were dressed quite nicely, I guess i was expecting more gas station attire? immediately i felt underdressed since i had just come back from the gym. But this did not deter me. I asked to see the humidor and was pointed in the direction of a 8 by 15-18 ft room in the corner. By first impressions this was definitely one of the bigger humidors i've experienced. I could tell that Scottish Tobacco knows their cigars. After walking around the humidor and seeing their selection (A LOT) and knowing that I was a novice I didn't wanna chance it with a cigar that I might just throw out. I asked for some help and one of the gentlemen offered to help. I told him i was a novice and didn't have much experience in the cigar world... i told him what i was looking for and he gave me some selections that would suit me... altho a bit cluttered he knew his way around the humidor and suggested some pretty good stogies for me. As we walked out, i asked about cutters and he offered to precut them for me or pointed me in the direction of a entry level cutter... as i checked out i also asked for some matches which they happily gave me. During this whole process I couldn't help but notice the rapport they had with some of their more... experienced consumers. It was a very friendly atmosphere. Customers would come in and ask about the shop owner's family and friends and pleasantries would be exchanged. As i was checking out the other gentleman (different from the one showing me cigars) didn't mind taking out the time to show me a few butane lighters i had inquired about. Overall the store was well kept and stocked and the staff quite knowledgeable. Although I did feel a bit out of place and that the staff might not have been as attentive with me as their other clients, i know it was something that would come with time. The best shop in greater Atlanta. There are several very good cigar stores in metro Atlanta now, but Scottish is clearly the best of the best. Owner Shafi Hai opened this shop at this location in 1995 and has operated it ever since. His trusted associate Akbar Alam is a wonder! read more

Knowledgeable staff whom are eager to help. The humidor is quite cramped however, and the cigars are not arranged according to their country of origin. Different countries have different soil and water sources, so each cigar has a unique character and flavor. Kind of like fine wines. Great lil' shop overall. I like the Nicaraguan and Dominican variety myself. read more

This place has everything. The owner knows everything about all the smokes. I picked up a couple of great sticks, at his suggestion, that I had never tried. I first found out about Scottish Tobacco from the general manager, Akbar, at a cigar event in September of 2012. When I first went in, I was greeted by a very welcoming staff and was pointed in the direction of the humidor. Being a novice smoker at the time, Akbar pointed the way to some wonderful entry cigars and was invited into the private lounge in the back where I met some very knowledgeable clientele. I quickly made many new friends and have been returning on a near weekly basis ever since. The selection at Scottish is fantastic and the prices are some of the best I have seen, not just in the area, but throughout the state. The humidor can feel a bit crowded sometimes as it is not very large, but is stacked with a huge variety. As I mentioned before, the staff there is very friendly, and also very knowledgeable. If you are new to smoking, or a seasoned afficianado, they will help point out a stick that you will almost certainly enjoy. Between Scottish, and their new sister store, Churchill Fine Cigars, there are many different events that will feature certain brands of cigars, often-times with a buy 3 get one special, and sometimes even giveaways. I highly recommend visiting Scottish Tobacco if you are in the Buckhead area for a good smoke and friendly atmosphere. read more
