These guys rock!! 1st time going here and can not wait to get back!!!! Super friendly and attentive! My grilled ham and cheese was awesome, not to mention the icy cold beers. Did I mention that they serve breakfast all day until 1 AM??? Well they do and it is freaking awesome!!!! Got to sample some and can't wait to order my own. NEW LOCATION REVIEW : Vernon is at the building that was previously freshwraps, and before that the beloved Cork n Fork. My family has enjoyed Vernon for a long while, really since Cork n Fork closed in 2014. The food has always been good, the atmosphere inviting enough (not too aesthetically appealing but that's not a big deal for a bar/grill) and good service. Tonight my husband and I wanted to give the new location for Vernon a shot, him excited for the food, and me excited to be back in the building. Walking in, there are TV screens at every angle, bright white lights overhead, and a sloppy wall of bottles behind the bar. There are also plenty of neon signs that feel very harsh with the overhead lights. I could be wrong, but I think there were 3 or 4 booth seats and 8-10 chair seated tables. It's very noticeable that it has fewer seats for eating, but lots of stools at the bar and two separate dedicated areas to games. Some of the food was the same, some of it tasted very different. The prices have been raised, which I understand with inflation, but we were both surprised when we saw our bill. I was made aware that this was on the menu and I must have missed it, but they now charge a percentage for using a card when paying. I'm not saying that place is awful by any means, it just feels so different from the Vernon I know a lot of people liked. read more

Travelling for business, sampled over 20 restaurants in the Cedar Rapids area. Not a bad one in the bunch... until now. Of all the meals I've ordered, this was the only one that was terrible, in act, some of the worst food I've ever encountered... I got a combo basket and a chopped steak dinner. The appetizers were a bland and flavorless, with no dip served with it. The bone-in wings tasted rotten. Literally rotten meat. One bite and after gagging, I tossed the whole combo basket away. On the dinner, The mashed potatoes were from a box with canned/powdered gravy. The chopped steak was a tough, processed hamburger patty, and it was topped with CANNED mushrooms in a mystery white sauce. Completely gross. I will never order from them again and I will tell everyone I can to stay away. It's just bad food. If I could give it negative stars I would. read more

Honestly I would have to say for the SouthEast side, one of the most genuine accepting bars you can ask for. Day to night you have workers or tenders who care about the food, the service, and the surrounding while being at the grill. Definitely one of the best bars on the Southeast side. You don't need to be rich or poor. They will still treat you the same, old, young, mature, or novice. This is the bar I promote the most. Definitely most valuable bar of the year. Last 5 to 10. So glad we found this place! Drove past it many times - Vernon Bar & Grill - sort of across from the Burger King - wondered what it was like. Finally stopped in - instantly fell in love with it. Now it's our favorite place in town. They buy good food, cook it right, serve it fast, and we'd never had a bad meal. The regulars are friendly and interesting, the cooks are top-notch. Best of all - Angie takes good care of us. There's a zillion dollar bills taped to the wall, with happy customers' names written on them. Look for the one that says, "Pete & Julie." read more

The people are friendly but the meal left much to to be desired and the cleanliness is in question. Let me start first with the floor, which is my main cleanliness complaint, its carpet and my feet stuck to it. Years of grease built up from coming out of the kitchen and it looks like it has never been cleaned, gross. My meal, i was playing it safe and ordered a BLT, everything was there one tomato slice - fine, one piece of iceberg lettuce one layer thick - not fine, one piece of bacon torn in two - really? I don't know if this is a mid-west thing, but they made their nachos with doritos. It was good but not what I was expecting. They don't have any beer on top, but they do serve Blue Moon with a side of real Orange Juice. Beer hit the spot after a long day of traveling. Can't beat the price either, it was $3! Back in LA its about twice the price. The staff is friendly and food came out promptly. Overall, a pretty good place to grab a quick drink and some snacks. read more

Good neighborhood restaurant. Nice cold beer. Food is adequate for bar food. We had the Philly cheese sandwich and a patty melt. Along with a side of French fried onion rings. It was just fine and it is located in our neighborhood so we will be back. Will probably try the breakfast next time. read more

This has always been a favorite place of ours for lunch. Excellent sandwiches. I've been trying to stay isolated as much as possible during the COVID crisis, but would go there a few times a month and ask them to bring a couple of meals out to the car. Today I decided to go in to pick up my food (wearing my mask). There was one customer at the bar wearing a mask but both men behind the counter were maskless. I asked the one waiting on me where his mask was and he responded "I'm so tired of hearing about masks." The other man came over to support the first. I didn't stay and point out that virtually every scientist in the world believes masks are helpful. I only said "I will never be back". A business that cares so little about the health of their customers does not deserve my patronage. Makes me wonder how sanitary they are in their food prep. Fortunately they can apparently afford to lose a good customer! read more

Great neighborhood bar/eatery! We really don't have any options right near here on the SE side so its perfect for the location! Awesome service with a smile. Very clean! Great place to go with friends family or just the 2 of us and even though they have a bar and pool table and bands our child is very comfortable here and they accommodate kids and don't season french fries. The breakfast offers huge portions and a wide variety of options. The dinner menu and appetizers are great the tenderloins and burgers are our favorite! They cook the burgers to your liking- which is rare nowadays. read more

Tucked into somewhat of a strip mall, I can be honest when I say I wasn't expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised. The quality of the food is great for a casual sit-down restaurant/pub. Multiple TV's are usually running with sporting events playing but the volume is not obtrusive. Service has always been prompt and courteous and the portions are more than ample. Pricing is incredibly reasonable. We will definitely be back. read more
