This wasn't our first time here but it's been several years. Not sure what happened but it definitely isn't what it used to be. The cloth napkins are gone along with the jumbo shrimp for the cocktail appetizer (now you get 6 tiny pieces of shrimp that look like they came in one of the frozen rings from Walmart). It was disappointing having celebrated many special occasions at Scotty's and everyone always enjoyed it. I don't think I'll be going back any time soon. Service was great and the food was edible so gave two stars but not worth the $ anymore. read more

We ate here recently after a two-year hiatus. Several years ago we had eaten here several times and it was always great Prime Rib - until we ordered it in October of 2024. It was SO incredibly horrible - it was a very thin, gray slab of meat that was completely flavorless, the lettuce in our salad was rotten, and our garlic red-skinned mashed potatoes were cold. We looked at each other like 'what happened to the great food we've had here before?' We couldn't believe how downhill it had gone in such a short period of time (guessing change of ownership? or not enough profit margin so they decided to go cheap on food?). Fast forward to August of 2026 and we were driving through Ludington and decided to give them another shot - in the event our experience of Oct 2024 was a one-off. Unfortunately, it was not. Same thing: a terrible, thin-cut slab of micro-waved prime rib with absolutely no taste, and rotten lettuce in our salad. (The dinner roll and baked potato were okay.) You can tell a restaurant microwaves their food when you walk in and there are no aromas to entice you. There is literally NO smell of food when you walk in - none. You should be able to smell the Prime Rib that's been roasting for hours, but there was none of that. The portions are smaller/thinner than before (if our prime rib was even 1/4" thick I'd be surprised), the meat is flavorless and gray in appearance - although it looks like they threw it on a griddle in an attempt to give it some color and make it more appealing (failed at that). The decor in the photos looks nothing like the decor on-site. It could definitely use some updating. Everything is old and covered in a sticky substance indicating years and years of wipe-downs but no real cleaning. Bottom Line: Unfortunately, the food is so disgusting, we won't ever be back. What a shame - it used to be a nice treat to dine there, but that is no more. read more

I was a bit nervous trying this place because of the reviews and the pictures taken. But man this was one of the highlights of our trip up to Michigan. The all you can eat shrimp is a must try. They use the same breading as you would normally get with a fish fry. It's hard to find shrimp that good back in Chicago. The portions are generous as well and they bring out each plate in a timely manner. (Which can't be said for most places offering AYCE!) The service was amazing as well. I'm sure we'll be back! Scotty's has been in Ludington forever. And based on what we experienced likely will continue for years to come. Why? Because of their fabulous decor. Nope. Because of the friendly service. Well it didn't hurt. Because of the delicious perch prime rib and cocktails? Ding ding ding. The special little white tablecloth was a huge hit with our crowd. The next memorable thing was the vacuum. Maybe there were two because the minute a messy table left super Hoover was powered up and roared across the floor. Menu and interior pictures appeared great online on different websites. We got there early to beat the rush. Dining area was very clean, comfortable, and there were plenty of tables and room in between them. The restaurant filled up fast so we thought that was a good sign. I don't know if our server was new, overwhelmed, or both, but our service was VERY slow and we heard others around us complaining as well. Our food eventually came out and I would give it a C- rating. Most of it was cold. The food was not seasoned and most of it lacked flavor. The prime rib sandwich was good. The stuffed mushrooms barely had any "stuffing". I would not recommend and we won't be going back. read more

Let's start with the good. Our server was great. That's it. Now the bad. For an "upscale" place, sitting down to a bare table and paper napkins is surprising. But whatever. We went for my birthday dinner while I was in town and it was one of the worst meals I've had in a long time. My old fashioned showed up and it was undrinkable. I sent it back and asked how it was made. Muddled with orange and maraschino cherry, I can forgive. Topped with soda water? No. I got a Woodford Reserve instead. Thankfully they didn't mess that up. Our appetizers: potato skins and coconut shrimp. Coconut shrimp was almost okay, just really, really oily. The potato skins were sad and had a steamed quality. Then, our meals... my mother, my father, and I all ordered prime rib. It was completely inedible. I could barely cut it, let alone chew it. It was also incredibly bland (not my top pick of meat in the first place, but they didn't have a ribeye). The ONLY thing about the meal that was decent was the garlic mashed potatoes. When none of us ate our meals, the waitress asked if it was bad. When we said it was, she said that she'd had 3 other tables complain about the prime rib and send it back. I don't know how you mess up a prime rib that badly, but it was AWFUL. The only silver lining is that the waitress removed the prime ribs from the bill, so we only ended up paying $120 for a really awful meal instead of $200. read more

The food was by far the worst I've ever had at a restaurant. $37 for 1/4" thick overcooked sirloin that I ordered medium. Every bite was filled with fat and gristle. It was covered with fishy smelling crab meat that was dumped on it from a can. A classic restaurant. Decorated and an easy and relaxing manor. Nothing special really, but nothing wrong with it either. I ordered The Apple Bacon Stuffed Chicken ($18). This is a Chicken Breast stuffed with bacon, Dried Cherries, and Fresh Apples. Sauteed in a Apple Brandy Sauce. It was simply Spectacular! Every part just worked together to make something greater than it's parts. I chose a Baked potato as my side and is was excellent. Entrees come with Sweet Rolls. They were super soft and so yummy. The Service was slammed so a little slow. I understood though because a bunch of restaurants chose to close today (Tuesday). Otherwise very friendly and efficient. Overall an easy 5 star review. What a disappointment!! It was wrong from start to finish. 2 of our 4 people had drinks that were so bad they had to be sent back. The shrimp appetizer was battered and fried with the tails tucked in. The blue cheese dressing on the salads was made with Miracle Whip. And finally 3 of our 4 people ordered prime rib which was so tough as to be inedible. Literally, it couldn't be chewed. So we gave up. The waitress, who by the way is the reason they got 2 stars, saw our plates and said she'd had 3 other tables complain about the prime rib. And she comped those entrees off our bill. First as a veteran, I would like to say thank you to Scotties for my meal. Now let's get down to the service and food. Took fifteen minutes to get a waitress. Took our drink and meal orders at the same time. That was good because we got our drinks and it was another fifteen minutes before we got our salads. We finished our salads and the bowls were collected and we still waited for the main course. The waitress never asked me how I wanted my steak but it came out rare. I ate it but was not happy as there was blood all over my plate and the steak was tough and cold inside. My wife had cod and she said that was good but her baked potatoe was not warm enough to melt butter. Waitress never came back to ask how our food was until we were done. Then she said that was poor customer service and she was correct. Usually have good food and service there but not tonight. read more

Literally the worst and most shocking food experience I've had in a restaurant. I ordered a medium rare prime rib. The waitress said that it would be closer to medium. I was disappointed but it was the "house specialty" so I figured I would still give it a go. I came out dry, grey, with sear marks? I was dumbfounded. I normally don't send anything back, but this was inedible. The waitress tried to argue with me but ended up comping it. I tried something else - equally terrible. After speaking with the manager, we still ended up spending $100 for one appetizer, two salads, and my companion's entree, which was pretty much inedible as well. It had been several years since we last patronized Scotty's, so we decided to revisit during our latest stay in Ludington. Upon first look it does not appear any exterior improvements have been made - the place looks a bit run down and can do with some paint and landscaping. Upon entering I immediately noticed that the interior had been redone with paint to brighten up the place. We were quickly greeted and seated by the hostess. In re iew of the menu it does not appear much has changed since our last visit in 2018. Being in the mood for a steak I ordered the Blackened Ribeye. It came out very quick, but though properly cooked, I was disappointed in: 1. It was not blackened 2. It was pretty thin about half the thickness of ribeyes I have had in the past I didn't return the steak because I did not want to wait for a reorder. The waitress was great - didn't ask her name or I would give her a shoutout, but if it helps, she said she had only been there 1.5 years and has a tatoo sleeve on her left arm. She was sweet, friendly, attentive, and took great care of us. Not sure I will be returning for a third time. read more

I am a cottage owner on Hamlin lake and I'm here from spring to Fall. This is still my favorite GO TO place for great meals. In the spring take advantage of all their asparagus appetizers. OMG ! Not much on the outside, but the inside is lovely and light. Loved the ambiance. The fried zucchini was amazing. Thick cut, thin crispy coating. The vegetable really shined. My mom ordered the prime rib, which was tender and juicy, full of flavor. The fries were thick, hand cut, and delicious. I had the Parmesan whitefish, and it was really good!! The baked potato came with chive sour cream, which was a nice touch. The dinner roll taste very close to Bob Evan's, but not as fluffy. I looooved it. I wish they gave more than one per person though! Our waitress was awesome and prompt. The price fit my expectations and experience. They did social distancing measures well. Terrible food, prime rib was ordered rare it came out over done. Gross nasty food. Girlfriend's pasta was nasty, disgusting food all around. The cream pasta sauce was green from the un blanched asparagus. But the shrimp and salmon in the pasta was good and the basil was a nice touch. The pasta was cooked correctly.bread was good butter was cold and miserable. Service was okay. Napkins were nice and the water was the best part of the meal. Meh. Not great, not bad, just average. I had the Parmesan whitefish. It had way too much caper sauce. We were seated in the back of the restaurant and there was a small party (Xmas season) in front area of restaurant. It's one of the few places open in winter in Ludington. Portion size was generous, waitress was nice. I would go back, but it wouldn't be my first choice. IMHO the menu needs an overhaul. read more

Ordered filet and crab cake Saturday evening June 5. Filet was ok but crab cake was made with imitation crab sticks with the red dye. The rest of it was soggy bread crumbs. Worst crab cake I have been served. Inedible! Was never asked how the meal was and because I was in a large group I didn't complain and regret not doing that. For $38 I expect "real" crab meat and a good preparation. Shouldn't be on the menu if it will be done in this horrible way! read more

* As a 27 year seasonal resident of Ludington we have dined many times at Scotty's over the years and have had the misfortune of witnessing the decline in the food quality as the prices rose. On 7/13/18 we went as a group of six and had the poorest excuse of a meal ever. The three prime rib were dry, only warm and completely tasteless (tasted like they were microwaved and NO juice when it was cut just a dry plate ).the three kabobs (2 chicken 1 beef) were over cooked and also very dry and tasteless. * The service provided by the server was excellent and she thankfully kept our beverages (cola/water) full lest we choke to death. * In the past we have said that we wouldn't return but have always said lets "try again" this time we won't "try again". * I never thought I would see the day when Burger King would be the restaurant of choice in Ludington. read more

Our meal didn't come until 7pm and there were only 4 other tables with customers. We ordered the lobster special, and Parmesan encrusted whitefish with capers. Dined here twice during the past week. The Friday fish fry was one of the best I've ever had. Large choices of fish. I had whitefish, the batter was very thin and crispy, dish was excellent, as was my wife's shrimp coated with the same batter. Server Roxanne was pleasant, menu knowledgeable, attentive, and very accommodating. My only criticism might be that the restaurant pylon sign is somewhat difficult to read if you're not familiar with the area. Food is good, absolutely worth a visit. read more

Our group had mixed experiences here. First of all, they had a great and affordable wine list. Everyone who ordered seafood (shrimp, crab legs, perch, whitefish) loved it. However, everyone who had steak was very disappointed. Every steak was more than well done (despite everyone asking for medium or medium rare). Decided to try here for dinner on a spontaneous trip up to Ludington. Love the area but look elsewhere for food. The service was extremely slow and the food was pretty bland overall. I ordered the prime rib sandwich which mostly consisted of 3 or 4 slivers of prime rib, a ton of onions in between an inch and a half high piece of Texas toast. The kitchen messed up my fiancé's order and the waitress forgot her salad. In the end if I had known, I would have suggested we go elsewhere for dinner. read more
