I visited Timbers back in 2017ish when they did their reboot and it was fabulous. People were always waiting for tables back then and the food was great. Today we visited and it was awful. It is so sad to see that this restaurant has completely went down hill. Things started off fine. We were greeted at the door and seated right away. We then waited 50 minutes for our food to come out. Our appetizers came out quickly because they were just deep fried apps, but our entrees took 50 minutes. Our appetizers didn't taste right like the oil was old or something. The onions rings did not look appetizing, a darker color to them from the oil? My friend has the fish and chips and said the fish had good flavor but it was chewy and soggy. My other friend had the fettuccine Alfredo and didn't even eat it. We all tried it and it didn't taste like Alfredo. It had tomatoes in it too. My other friend had the salmon and rice pilaf and thought it was good. I had the cowboy burger. It was a really good burger, the patty was on the thinner side and it definitely wasn't cooked all the way as shown in picture. I appreciated that they used real bacon and not microwave cheap bacon. The bun was a little small for the burger but it was packed with onion rings, bacon and bbq sauce. Again, the onion rings weren't great. The manager/our waitress Mandy was kind and attentive. She asked why I didn't want a box for my burger, and I just said it wasn't really cooked all the way. Then she shared about how things have been rough there and she is hoping to turn it around with being recently hired. She shared how the chef "has no clue what he is doing." Whoever owns Timbers is going to have to close their doors because no one is going to visit a restaurant that is not enjoyable. It was a Saturday night at 5-6pm and there were only 4 tables with people dining. That is a big red flag if your business only has 4 tables on a Saturday. The atmosphere is great, they have an upstairs and a small deck out back, and it is just so sad it is going to waste. There is free street parking and a small parking lot next to the restaurant. We stopped by here one night after getting a late start finding a place for dinner. Most places had a 45-60-minute wait and we were directed to this location. We were sat quickly; the server was very friendly and got us started right away. From that point unfortunately things kind of fell apart. The food, while delicious, came out in waves and the people that got their food first started eating were finished by the time the last people got theirs almost 30 minutes later. The staff were great with comping some of it but it was just a depressing experience overall. read more

Overall pleased with Timbers Bar, which is different than the Timbers Steakhouse on the corner. Food was good although service was lackluster. The hostess and manager (owner?) we're very polite and accommodating when we initially entered. They were able to seat us after a short wait. It was a Monday night and all the tables were full. Our server/bartender was not very attentive although he was knowledgeable about the menu. The bang bang shrimp appetizer was disappointing. A few shrimp in a strange non traditional sauce for bang bang, and the bowl was mostly greens. The twisted Cuban, Mediterranean hummus plate, and burger were all pretty tasty. The menu posted online does not match up with those in the restaurant. We did not receive refills without asking and when I asked for water refills the server brought a single glass of water, when there were four of us and two totally empty and two mostly empty water glasses. It was weird. He never came to check on us so I had to flag down the hostess to ask for the condiments we were missing, extra napkins, etc. It can get kind of loud, it is a bar after all. But the vibe is that of an upscale bar, not a dive. read more

Showed up at 8:00 with my family. My wife, son, daughter in law, grandson (15 months old) and myself. Got seated and placed drink order. Drinks arrive and placed food order and waited another half hour. Waitress comes back and says cook refuses to cook our food because he's closing the grill. The restaurant closes at 10:00 and it's now 8:45. It's hard enough keeping a 15 month old content for 45 minutes sitting at a table. I get that there was no manager there and they wanna get out early and have fun but they could have at least let us know before waiting nearly an hour. Walked down the street to James Port where they accommodated us knowing what happened and had a baby up past his bed time and was getting extremely antsy. Extremely unprofessional and have never dealt with anything like this in my life. There are two Timbers so this is the Timbers Bar and Grill to be clear. I seen some of the good reviews on here and the food they ordered was not at Timbers Bar and Grill. So these guys got some good reviews that were meant for the other business. read more

No hostess greeted us, 5 employees looked at us while standing at the hostess stand and no one even tried to make us welcome. Had to go to the bar after 10 minutes to ask if this was a seat yourself and was told to wait. A poorly dressed kid named Collin eventually approached. His shirt open exposing his chest like he was part of a stripper review. Took us outside to the deck, took a drink order and disappeared for 30 minutes. I eventually had to walk inside and get our own drinks. Over 45 minutes had passed and still no dinner. We eventually walked out. These times are NOT an exaggeration. Very very poor job. The 5 tables that were there should have been my first clue. More employees than customers. All other restaurants were packed. Evidently the reputation is out. It was 4th of July - a holiday, i get it -- but in a small town with so much tourist traffic, they should have expected some business. We called ahead and they said, "sure, come on over we can seat you right away". When we arrived, they said, "we can seat you right away, but you have to wait an hour before you can order anything." huh? It took 20 minutes to get a drink - and when one of our party went out to get something from the car, 2 bartenders and 4 or 5 kitchen staff were outside smoking. I get that they need breaks - still not a huge deal Not too long after that, one of the bartenders delivered some drinks to a table next to us and seemed to be intoxicated. They didn't order the drinks and she put them on the table and said, "drink them anyway." One member of our group is a smoker and went out to smoke a few times - every time there were several members (including the same bartender) out for a smoke break. This went on the whole time we were there. There were servers crying, bartenders stumbling around, cooks under the deck yelling loudly at each other. Clearly no manager on duty. Sad. This week was our first visit since our last trip to Ludington in 2022. It was just as good as we remembered. Solid, high-end bar food with friendly and efficient service. This place is fabulous! Twisted Cuban sandwich was great. Fries with Parmesan Garlic sprinkled on top. Cheese cake was creamy and very fresh. The cheese was not sweet, just a hint of lemon. Having the menu posted outside is plus & encouraged us to eat here. The reclaimed brick, real barn beams and local logging and ship photos from the 1800s and early 1900s tied historic Ludington into the motif. The waitress was informative and efficient. Our server recommended the steak and then disappeared for awhile - she had to run 3 blocks to their sister restaurant to get our steaks because Timbers ran out. When the food came it was ok, nothing special. My family and I had high hopes for this place based on the reviews we read so I am not sure if we just ate here on an off night or if this is the norm. To start, I called ahead of time to ask when they opened to which they said 4pm. We arrived to a line waiting to get in. However, the hostess came out and told us that they had to change the opening time to 4:30 because staff was running late. Once we were let in, our drinks came with no ice and one had a big floating in it. The menus were dirty, crumpled, and had many things crossed out and modified in pen. I will say the highlight of the night was the pretzel appetizer - that was delightful. After waiting about an hour and 20 minutes for food to arrive, the kids chicken nuggets were literally burned and inedible. The kids hamburger was also very well done but with a heavy dose of ketchup, my child was able to eat a couple bites. I should mention that their French fries were underdone and cold. The best meal was the club sandwich. My fish tacos were overcooked. The flour tortilla was so hard that it was impossible to eat. However, the real bummer of the night was that the wine pours from the bar drastically changed throughout the night from starting with a full glass to ending with a half a glass. We were told the bartenders had to retrieve new bottles from the basement and were trying to avoid going down there. Overall, while the waitress was pleasant, we will never return. It is a shame too because I heard they have a great view of the lake. We were unable to see it. Due to the rain, they closed the deck so we were inside. read more

We stopped in this cozy little place on James St just for a change of pace & were pleasantly surprised at its dining experience. We ordered the chicken wings with three sauces on the side which were very tasty with parmigiana cheese. We also enjoyed and split the chicken sandwich which was absolutely wonderful. Our waitress Rene was sweet and a pleasant addition to our experience. We also had the pleasure of meeting David the chef and also had a fun conversation with Gino the manager of both restaurants we recommend you take the time to try this little out of the way experience. We would rate it an 8 on a scale of 10. Only open from 5 to 9 so come early. Bravo to the staff ! read more

We ordered diet lots of ice and got a regular coke no ice We ordered our steak well done and salt and pepper only and no seasoning on the fries. It arrived 25 minutes later smothered in garlic and parsley. The server said she wasn't sure what happened she told us later that she told the kitchen staff but the chef was outside when she did and no one told him. She said she would remake it and was about to take away the plate and then we would have no fries, which were soaking in the garlic and butter sauce. Anyway 20 minutes later she brought a charred piece of meat only on a cold plate and proceeded to let us know we could keep the I'll prepared steak or they could throw it away. We overhead the waitress complaining to the host that she thought we thought they would comp our order. No apologies or discounts were given. The table we sat at had a glide missing on the base, so ever time you cut your food it would wobble. It was dark, noisy, and not busy for a Saturday night, Do Not Go Here. Then when the bill came it was $150 with tip, and I certainly did not give the usual 20%. I'll happily pay for great service and tasty food, but absolutely never go there again! read more

Went in and asked the hostess if we could be seated outside and was told no bc there was a private party up there. We were seated in the bar. Took a few minutes to get someone over. I asked for a margarita with no salt on the rim and bf got an IPA. Took a long while before she came back and there was a ton of salt on my glass. I told her I didn't want salt and her reply was well you have a straw so it's not a big deal. Really???? She didn't offer to fix it or bring me a new drink. My bf had an empty bottle of beer for a good 35 minutes. I ordered the cheeseburger and fries bf order a cheeseburger and the park fries. We waited 40 minutes. We finally had had enough so I went to the hostess and asked if she was the owner and she said no. I told her we just wanted our check for the drinks and cancel our order. She went and spoke to the waitress and then she came right over and said she would check if our was up and surprise it suddenly was. Neither of us were impressed with the burgers or parm fries (they sprinkled canned Parmesan on them). The burger had a weird seasoning on them. Well in case anyone is interested, we will never go back there again. read more

The waitress Carson was wonderful, and unfortunately, that was the best part of the dining experience. The website indicated the restaurant opened at 4pm on Friday. Not the case but instead had a 5pm opening and we decided to wait. It was definitely not worth the wait. The breading on the calamari fell off. The porterhouse dry aged was charred, sent back for a filet that tasted like it was marinated in old smoke. The owner said they do marinade the filets. Odd in my opinion. The owner offered to buy drinks and gave us a gift certificate. Very nice of him. Forgot the Brussel sprouts ordered. Provided a dry potato. Drinks were ok. I thought it was really good. We are from out of town (California) and ended up at Timbers after being told Jamesport would be a 1.5 hour wait. They were super kind and attentive. We have a drinks (beers on tap were great....although they were out of my first two choices....but it is the Monday after the Fourth of July). And really the nitro beer he suggested was better than the Alaskan Amber any way! The burgers are big and juicy. The fries were a little over salted on a few of our plates (there were 7 of us)....but we shared the ones that weren't salted with a heavy hand and all was good. The pace of the food went well and we were checked on often. I thought it was better than Jamesport, Barney and Rye and Ludington Bay Brewing. read more

We arrived about 445. People trickled in until we left around 530. The restaurant next door was booked with reservations for homecoming so we ended up here. The actual building is very nice with a good atmosphere. Our server Alexis was very friendly and got everything right. Our table of 6 had entree salads, pulled pork sandwiches and a burger. The portions were a little small, but they were priced accordingly compared to surrounding restaurants. The food was good. It wasn't, "wow," but it wasn't bad either. It was mildly seasoned. That tells me they don't overuse salt. The chicken on my salad was good and the lettuce was very fresh. I would eat here again, but it wouldn't be my first choice. If you're looking for decent food at a good price and quick service (at least during non peak hours) this will work well. read more
