    French toast

Such a cute place for a delicious breakfast! The service was fast and presentation of the food was beautiful. You have to try the french toast!!

We went to Scram as it looked nice and was very close to where we were staying. We went early on a Thursday morning before our train ride out of Edinburgh. The place was mainly empty but quickly filled up. The restaurant was nicely decorated but had a steep step that almost caused me trouble. I had the Lotus French toast and a Scone on the side. The French toast was very good and sweet with fresh fruit and biscoff sauce. This paired nicely with my americano coffee. The portions were large and I definitely could have skipped the scone. We did have some trouble getting the bill as the place filled up. Overall, not a bad place to grab a quick bite.

Amazing eggs royale at Scran this morning. Great morning in Edinburgh. Poached eggs on toast with smoked salmon and holledaise.

Burgers were good but the basic burger was okay. Sweet potato fries were good. Onion rings were good. Service was friendly and quick.

Before heading to Edinburgh, my friend and I heard good things about The Scran, so we tried it out first day there. Needless to say, we have been back daily. They have great coffee and for a quick brunch or bite during the day, the food is really good. This visit, I had the Roll, which you can pick the toppings you want for it. I got bacon, egg and cheese. All were freshly made. My friend and I have been getting the cappuccino every day, and I would highly recommend it. A must try if you are in Edinburgh. Take a seat outside if the weather is nice, avoid the hallway seating since it is a wind tunnel.

We had breakfast at Scran this morning. We ordered an americano, latte, lotus French toast, Eggs Benedict and fruit scone. The lotus French toast and Eggs Benedict were very good. If you are with another guest I recommend splitting a savory and sweet meal so that it doesn't become too much for you. My husband really enjoyed the Lotus French Toast but was over the sweetness by the time he finished it. Plates are fairly large so you really don't need to get additional items on the side. Service was quick however we did have to ask for the bill 3 times before we actually received it. Restaurant is cute and nicely decorated. We went in for breakfast at 9:30am and had no wait. If you are staying nearby I would recommend trying this place out!

Typical British fare for breakfast. The particular breakfast place we ordered was a "Scottish breakfast" - I would say the difference to a "British breakfast" would be the addition of haggis and potato taffies. Nothing in particular to write home about. Service was good, and the location is convenient- close to the royal mile. We also ordered a mimosa and a soya latte. The soya latte tasted water down, but that might just be a local practice. The mimosa on the other hand was more champagne than oj.

French toast with berry compote and vanilla marscapone

I'm usually one to order more savory items for breakfast, but something told me I needed to try the French toast here. Let me say that I am so glad I strayed from my norm, the food was amazing!! It came with two thick slices of brioche, a berry compote, and a to-die-for vanilla marscapone on top. I swear I could have eaten a bowl of that marscapone with a spoon. I was only able to finish half and was in a food coma when we left. If you are thinking about trying the French toast, don't think twice, just do it. Oh, and the waitress was amazing!

I am a member of a flight crew and as I was eating dinner I was asked to get catering for a flight literally the next morning. I asked the manager if he could make me some take away (to-go) steaks cooked rare to be cooked further on the plane. (I'm a private flight attendant and we cook and plate everything onboard). He went out of his way to make sure I recieved all the items cooked perfectly. Passengers left raving about the food!!! And these are passengers that definitely eat the best steaks. The manager even talked me through a playing game plan and I ran my thoughts of the dishes with him and wow, perfect outcome. I personally got the coley fish dish and started with some cheese. I am a big bleu cheese/stilton girl and it was all amazing. Everything was so good I used the bread from my cheese to mop up every ounce of juice left from coley plate. Great service, great views, and incredible food. All local and ever changing menu to fit what's in market. You'll see handwritten additions to each menu like the cheese and fish. The steaks were the 35 day dry hung flat iron steaks.

When our food arrived we finally asked to move spots but the back of the restaurant was just as bad. I can't believe other families weren't complaining. We came in excited about this place, and the restaurant had open tables at about 6:50pm on a Friday ... we had just walked all day and were starving with a 2-year old and an elderly after walking all over town and sightseeing all day long. However, was told by this girl that they didn't have a seat for us. Although there was no wait, no one ahead of us and empty tables. I told her she could seat us in that booth, we didn't mind since our 2 year old wouldn't be eating. However, she cut me off and said that would not work. I thought that was weird but that should have been That it would take them about 30 minutes to get us a table. We walk around in the cold, come back to the restaurant ... there are plenty of open tables. My husband takes my 2-year old inside to wait so she is not in the freezing rainy cold (especially since she was sniffling). The hostess then says it's going to take longer and that we must wait outside the restaurant. We tell her it's cold, and we've been waiting. She then says ... "This isn't going to work, I'm not serving you. You guys can leave." She did not want to serve of us this entire time! She could have told us when we first walked in, but made us wait and walk around outside in the cold rain with a 2-year old and an 88-year old ... then decides she doesn't want to serve us. We walked in at 6:50pm, came back at 7:30pm, waited until 7:45pm when she told us she wouldn't serve us. By this time all the other restaurants were fully reserved or with 1-2 hour waits. We ended up not able to have dinner that night, and got snacks from the grocery store. DO NOT COME HERE UNLESS YOU WANT HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! NEVER TREATED THIS BADLY BY A RESTAURANT!

I said for the size of our group can we get the other tables towards the back. There were other tables available and all right behind us. The hostess said no absolutely not guests were to be assigned to their tables. There were people behind us but they were after us; plus they were of smaller size than ours, clearly our skin color is the main issue. They sat us down, and quite a few minutes pass, others trickle in and promptly everyone bumps into me. At which point I told the hostess this is not acceptable. They sat 2 people at a table for 4, in the back while this table of 4 is really too small for 4 people. One thing stood out to me, we were the only non whites. When the last group again bumped into me, I asked to be moved; she then said due to short of staff they cannot change the seating but seeing seriously everyone is bumping into me, she begrudgingly moved us to a corner table with no lights - and not surprisingly no service. I understand the importance of trying to make the white people feel comfortable about not being seen with non whites - the best way is tuck the non whites away - but this is 2022. I am from California and no, this is absolutely unacceptable. Like MLK junior or Rosa Parks, we protected, first by requesting to be moved away from the hallway, then by my two teens and I walking out of the restaurant and finding more tolerant non racist restaurant to eat, and we spent a lot of money on the other restaurant. I'm not used to seeing it in blocks and our end time was bolded but not the start time. We showed up at the end time. We were charged obviously because you have to give a card for a guarantee. I get that. I was fine with it since it was my fault. What I wasn't fine with was the rude (dare I say bitchy?) hostess who I spoke with upon arriving. She was awful to me and looked at me like I was garbage. Even after that, I decided to rebook and pay attention to the time. The restaurant had been recommended to us by a relative as the "best place they had eaten" while in Edinburgh and I wanted to try it. I booked for lunch and when we arrived the male host was lovely. We were sat early (because I always show up to a reservation early) and then we waited almost a half an hour for the one waitress there to come and help. It was fine. I can understand they are understaffed and busy. But then the food, it was also just fine. It was decent but not great. Like a lot of things in the UK, it's understated and seasoned. My husband had the pappardelle and my two children and I had the flat iron steak. His pasta had zero flavor. It was a cream based sauce. It needed more salt. As for the steak, it was fine. It was cooked well. Mine was medium rare and the kids both had medium. It was also not seasoned well. However the steak was served with a dipping sauce (a garlic sauce, a peppercorn or lemon mint). We tried all three since we had three steaks and those were all good and kept the steak from being bland. On the plate were chips (fries), which were not salted well but we had the dipping sauces. Also on the plate was plain arugula and a couple on the vine cherry tomatoes. Nothing spectacular. The waitress didn't come back once the entire time we were eating. Overall, it just wasn't worth it for the money we paid.
