Tried out this little bakery cafe this morning. Overall not overly impressed. The food was ok but nothing outside of what you would get severed anywhere else. The highlight would definitely be the baked goods (it is a bakery that should be the highlight and is) the eggs and other breakfast items were decent I suppose, ordered a chai tea that had almost no flavor which was disappointing. All in all I might go back for a cookie or bread but I wouldn't get breakfast here again and def not a beverage. Staff was very friendly though and kind. read more

They never opened up the inside as they had indoor dining prior to Covid.. It's on a corner of a shopping center as tends to be breezey and 1/2 the tables are not covered. They do not have heaters either, would be a great suggestion for the comfort and exchange for not allowing clients to dine in. I asked today when they will open up inside and was told unfortunately they won't be. It's not dynamic food, great bakery... not feeling the love. You have a lot of seniors that frequent and it's chilly especially lately. read more

This cute little bakery dishes out some impressively tasty treats and offers a clean and classy setting to enjoy them in. What a nice little spot to grab a cup of coffee on a sunny morning. My wife would bring home some baked goods from here occasionally, which I always found to be quite tasty. But it was my first time visiting the actual bakery when I stopped by to pick up a birthday cake we ordered. Not only did they do a great job in creating a cool cake, we received lots of compliments on how good it tasted. While I was waiting for my coffee drinks, I was able to enjoy a few flavors of their macarons, which I found to be excellent. The Oreo one in particular was a revelation, and my little guy ended up eating an entire strawberry one. I think it's safe to say he enjoyed it. On top of that, the entire staff was so friendly and helpful that it made me want to come back. So the next time I'm in the area, I'm definitely stopping by to try some of their other goodies. read more

I've had cakes, croissants, sourdough bread, and coffee here. Chocolate Croissant: Denser than most, so filling. Very flavorful, and well worth it. My wife and I both loved it with our coffee drinks. Cakes: Not that big, but really good. We get all of our cakes here now. Sourdough bread: It's pretty light for sourdough, and really not that sour, but judging how fast my kids go through that $5 loaf, it must be pretty good. I like it too. Good for toast, and for sandwiches. Coffee: better than most places, but just pretty good, not great. If you are still in COVID mode, the spacing inside is enforced, and outside tables are also appropriately spaced. Staff takes care in this area. read more

Cute little bakery cafe with outdoor seating. Food is priced comparably to similar establishments. The desserts in case looked great, but Inwas here for breakfast. This place used to be so good. Maybe new owners? Not sure what happened. If there's one thing this new owner should know... is that customers don't want to know what is happening behind the scenes. So before you talk about how you want to sell us day-old pastries make sure you aren't laughing loudly for all to hear. Is business that bad? I asked one of the cashiers and he also told me that they are made to pay for those old pastries that get tossed. How desperate are you to save money from this failing business? Also, maybe teach some employees not to swear and say slurs when everyone can hear. But I guess they learn from their bosses. When it comes to supporting a local business, I would hope it's a business that respects its customers and employees as well. It does not seem like Scratch does in my opinion. I'm taking my money to Moulin. read more

Finally, found it! Scratch is an excellent neighborhood coffee bakery. Great cuppa Joe. Impressive array of fresh baked goods, pastries and desserts. We ordered off the breakfast menu-- breakfast sandwich on a made from scratch English muffin 5 stars!! And an avocado toast on made from scratch Squaw bread 5 stars. So I'm leaving this review just based on service although I don't think I'll be disappointed by what I bought. I yelped local coffee for this area and this place had good reviews. What I was most impressed with was ALL the baked goods. I asked the girl making my coffee if they made their own cookies and if so what was her favorite. Her face lit up and was so jazzed talking about their cookies. I HAD to buy some. She was just as excited talking about their home made English muffins. At the end of the day. I left with 2 bags of cookies and a bag of muffins. I don't eat any of this stuff but they sold me. So to the owners of this shop..I hope you realize that you have 2 amazing employees who love your products. I had breakfast there about 3 months ago and found my food barely passable. The bread was not fresh and even if it had been fresh, it wasn't any better than supermarket bread. My eggs were overcooked indicating a lack of attention. The service was okay but in conclusion, I won't go there again. read more

New find! There aren't many good bakeries around that also offer delicious food!! Had an awesome egg, bacon, and cheese burrito with a large coffee. Absolutely wonderful, fast and friendly. My friend and I decided to grab breakfast after the beach and went to Scratch Bakery Cafe. I've actually been in this plaza but never knew this was here! Social distancing was clear and tables outside were spaced far enough apart you felt safe and comfortable. I had the avocado toast which was beautiful and delicious! It would have been nice to have the option of a poached egg on top. Maybe it is but I just didn't know about it. The breads are all made there fresh and you can definitely taste the difference! They have the best pastries and we went for breakfast today and it was delicious. I got the breakfast platter and my husband got the Monte Cristo. Both were very fresh and yummy. You can tell it is made from Scratch it is all fresh. The espresso is excellent try the Carmel Macchiato. There is no indoor seating was a little chilly sitting outside but that did not stop us from enjoying the food. They came and cleared out plates right away. They were friendly and made suggestions which I appreciated. Would highly recommend this place bonus they have fresh baked bread to take home alos. read more

I've been to both locations multiple times. However; THIS location in Laguna Hills needs serious owner attention. PLEASE train your employees to respect your customer's time. 4 employees behind the counter, 3 of which are screwing around, and 1 off to the side watching. 3 customers waiting in line negatively commenting on the situation. The gal behind me stated that she's "had it with this crap. She's on her lunch break." She walked out. The other customer moved up and stated that this is typical for this place. I've had to endure it several times and have left without purchasing. I only go to this location during off hours in hopes of a fairly quick purchase. I particularly didn't appreciate the one female employee holding my cinnamon roll with tongs out in front of the male employees face playing around before dropping it haphazardly into the box. I personally stood at the register far too long, with items in my arms, waiting for the female employee with the two toned blonde/black hair to ring me up. No greeting, no words other than when I asked for the total, had to ask for a bag, ask for a receipt since she was stumped with a cash transaction, and ask for one of the items to be heated, which annoyed her. She just kept watching the other employees messing around. Employees are a reflection of management and owners. Is this what you approve to represent you? There are several bakeries in Laguna Hills. Cute cafe with good coffee and variety of pastries! My friend and I stopped here for a coffee break after lunch at Minami Soba. They have standard coffee, lattes, teas, and pastries. Pastries are quite steep ranging from ($2~$6). I got a regular coffee ($2.25) and a cream puff ($2.00). Coffee had a good roasted and nutty flavor, easy to drink. The cream puff was a little sweet for my liking and heavy on the whipped cream, wish it had something else like custard to have more flavor balance. Size was perfect, good small snack size. Would definitely be down to try other pastries or lattes here. read more

Cute little bake shoppe! We had a latte, hot cocoa, coconut custard cupcake and a mini chocolate cake. If you like very dark chocolate, go for this cake, we didn't care for it because the depth of chocolate flavor was too deep and bitter but the cupcake was light and fluffy with great coconut flavor and our beverages were perfect. We'd come back when in the area and definitely try more of their treats. The place itself was immaculately maintained. read more

Customer service training is needed. I was in line behind another customer. When it was my turn to order, the cashier decided it was an opportune time to count all the change in the tip jar. Super delicious. My husband (who works at UPS) and I met for his lunch, my breakfast, while crossing paths from/ to work and we will absolutely go again! They really live up to their name. Everything tastes so fresh and 'home made.' Had the breakfast sandwich (the English muffin is soft and amazing!) and the meatball sub. While recovering from triple hernia surgery, I had a friend pick up a Monte Cristo breakfast sandwich at Scratch, this was my first visit to this establishment. By viewing the website menu the Monte Cristo looked extremely delicious and was pleasing to the eye. When it arrived I was very disappointed, the cheese was very sparsely spread throughout the sandwich, the ham had very hard rough edges that scratched my throat going down. The turkey was adequate and moist however it takes 3 ingredients that are all equally flavorful to pull off a superb Monte Cristo. This Monte Cristo did not hit the mark and fell far below a great tasting sandwich. I found myself repeatedly asking myself, "Where's the cheese? read more

Used to love this spot. Food has kinda gone downhill though. Some complaints: DoorDash menu is the same as their menu in person and online however they never make it as they state. Also, lack of putting allergies on the order (this is something the restaurant can turn on). Quality seems lacking these days. The Newport Beach one vs Laguna hills = Newport way better quality wise. Positive: cinnamon roll is still top notch and so is their English muffin (I'd get them and take them home to toast because even if you ask them to double toast it comes out soft). read more

If you're in the area and craving some pastries, this is a great option! I came here on a Saturday afternoon looking to do some studying but they didn't have any outlets so I didn't stay for long. I ordered a spinach artichoke croissant and a latte. The croissant was so buttery, flaky, flavorful! I highly recommend getting this or their other baked goods. They also have cakes, cookies, cream puffs and other desserts. The latte was okay, nothing special but decent. There's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Best gluten free birthday cake ever. How good? So good my gluten eating friends loved it and plan to visit. I got the very berry vanilla. It's made with whipped cream and fresh berries. I usually get the Eggs Benedict as does my wife except she substitutes sausage instead of ham. They have great hashbrowns and what they call "oh those potatoes" which is a green pepper and onion and potato concoction which is also popular. My kids typically get French toast or pancakes and gobble it all down. I feel like the same servers and Cooks have been there since I started going eight years ago. The ambience is what you'd expect with a lot of old pictures on the walls. The last time we went was Monday and it was so busy I couldn't believe it. There was actually about a 40 minute wait to sit down for a party at four. Parties of two were able to sit down a little quicker because they have lots of two tops. I've only ordered breakfast, although they have plenty of sandwiches and salads. I saw a stack of onion rings piled high that looked pretty tasty. The menu has a wide variety that will satisfy just about anybody.

Scratch Bakery Cafe had some highs and some lows for me. The food was definitely the highlight. I ordered the egg and bacon breakfast sandwich, and it was delicious. The eggs were fluffy and light, and the bacon was thick, crispy, and flavorful. I also tried the Knock Knock, which was sweet, rich, and a fun treat. It's definitely shareable, although I wouldn't blame anyone for keeping it all to themselves. The bakery case was impressive, with lots of breads, pastries, and desserts to choose from. The large parking lot also made getting there easy and stress-free. The seating situation is worth noting. All seating is outdoors, though there are plenty of covered patio tables. After ordering inside, the food is brought out to your table, which was convenient. The coffee was just okay. My iced vanilla latte wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything I'd go out of my way for either. If I were stopping in for breakfast, I'd order it again, but I wouldn't make a trip specifically for the coffee. Unfortunately, the overall experience was brought down by the cleanliness of the restroom. It had a noticeable odor, and the floors were very sticky. For a restaurant and bakery, that left a less-than-great impression. Overall, the food was enjoyable and there are plenty of tempting bakery items, but between the average coffee and the condition of the restroom, this ended up being more of a middle-of-the-road experience for me than a place I'd rush back to. read more

While the bakery has a cozy atmosphere and offers an impressive selection of baked goods and breakfast items, there were several letdowns during our visit. First, the service at the counter was notably slow. It took longer than expected to place our order and receive our food. So, I highly recommend placing an order in advance, as the website seems to allow you to do so. As for the food itself, it was hit or miss. My husband ordered a veggie egg burrito, which, sadly, lacked any real flavor. I opted for the bacon breakfast burrito, which had a little bit of saltiness from the bacon but was overall quite lackluster. Both burritos were more tortilla, less filling and didn't have the seasoning or zest we'd hoped for. I also picked up a pastry to go, hoping that their baked goods--what I imagine should be their specialty--would redeem the experience. However, it was just okay, falling short of the rich and memorable flavors you'd expect from a bakery that prides itself on scratch-made goods. I was disappointed when I walked in today and saw none of your employees were wearing a mask. While 8 out of 10 customers in line were wearing a mask (old and young). Do you know how bad it looks when your customers wear a mask to protect your employees and so for your business to stay open and yet you do not give a damn about your customers - for whatever reason?. Your employees are breathing on and touching all of our food and drinks. Imagine if one of them has COVID-19 (not fault of their own) and regardless if they are vaccinated or not, they will transmit to hundreds of people a day who will visit your place on any given day. Marshalls across from you has a better business-sense than you and they don't even serve food. I always loved your food and supported your business even very early on when the place was empty in the mornings. When you take a risk on my health and on my unvaccinated child while we choose to give you our business, that is when you lost me as a customer. Be smart, have a good business-sense, take care of your customers and the rest will take care of itself. read more

We had breakfast here for the first time today. Eggs Benedict and Biscuits and Gravy. I biscuits are jalapeno cheddar. I am one of the few people that don't like the flavor of jalapenos. A man, I think the owner, suggested that I get the english muffin. So I did. Food came. My husband loved his eggs benedict. My order came out with the biscuit. I let one of employees know that I had requested an english muffin. She was very young and had no clue how to handle the situation. After a few minutes of her trying to figure out how to communicate to the manager, I walked up to the front counter to explain what happened. The manager was amazing!! She immediately knew what happened and fixed the situation. They replaced my entire breakfast. Not necessary, but great customer service. My husband got a couple of pastries to bring home. One of the things was a a slice of cheese cake. OMG!!! Best cheese cake ever! If you are looking for a great locally owned place with great food, check this place out. I had gone on a day prior to their grand opening and the owner even gave a mini tour of the behind the scenes. Not only was I impressed with their operations and its cleanliness but the down to earth feel of the owners and staff. I love this place. I try to get here every Saturday for fresh a fresh apple crisp. If you do get one, be sure you're wearing sock garters because your socks will try to leave your feet. Also, the breakfast burrito is off the charts. Freshly made eggs, hash browns, veggies, you name it! Wash it all down with an iced green tea and you can't go wrong.
