My husband made reservations for Valentine's Day ten days ahead of time and the reservation was confirmed (with a fee of $20, non-refundable if we cancelled within 24 hours of the booking). We got a sitter for our little one and arrived on time for our 5:30 reservation, only to be told by the hostess that we weren't on the list. My husband pulled up the confirmation text and email, only to find that it showed it was canceled 2 days prior, this was shown when he pulled up the website sent from the reservation confirmation, we were NOT sent any email or text telling us the reservation was canceled! In the meantime, four other couples entered the restaurant, and of those only one couple was on the list, this left us and 3 other couples who had reservations cancelled without any kind of notification! The 2 hostesses were young and extremely unprofessional, they looked like deer in the headlights and just kept telling us there was nothing they could do. We asked if we could speak with a manager and they told us he was in the kitchen helping cook because they were running behind. We asked if the hostess could let him know about the situation, she went into the back briefly and came back again stating there was nothing they could do for us. One of the girls said to the other that the manager (who is the owner) had cancelled "a bunch" or reservations for the day due to "overbooking." So the manager/owner caused the problem, had 4 separate couples in his restaurant who had made reservations and then not been informed they were cancelled, and he didn't even have the courtesy to come out and talk to us. I can't believe how unprofessional the whole situation was. The girls at the front were too young and undertrained to be up at the hostess stand because they had no idea how to handle the situation, my husband had to prompt them on everything like requesting the manager. We then asked if we could receive a voucher for free dessert or drinks, or gift card to make up for the whole inconvenience, the girls said they couldn't do that but that if we came back on another day and mentioned it to the server, maybe they could do that for us. That's horrible customer service. My husband then requested to be contacted by the manager/owner the next day, one of the girls (I believe she's the owner's daughter) took down his name and number... we received no call. So there we were on Valentine's Day with nowhere to go for dinner. Even if we had known the reservation was canceled, it was canceled only TWO days prior! We wouldn't have been able to find anywhere else that wasn't already fully booked by then. There has been absolutely no attempt to rectify the situation. We will never come back to this restaurant, the whole situation was handled incredibly poorly and unprofessionally. On a side note, for the prices this place charges, the atmosphere was subpar. There was absolutely nothing done to make it look nice for Valentine's Day, no ambiance, no flowers or candles on the table. It's not hard and there was clearly no effort put in. read more

We have been to Scratch Steakhouse and Lounge twice now and both times, have received outstanding quality food and service. In fact, we drive almost an hour just to come here. The restaurant is in the smaller side, but it's appropriate for the location, which is in a smaller town. Dress code is casual and we made reservations online for a Friday night at 7 but didn't really need them. They were fully occupied but still had tables open. We chose to sit at the empty bar. We were greeted promptly and offered suggestions of what to order. We got a bottle of wine and we're given complimentary cheddar biscuits while we waited. We ordered the smoked chicken dip with fried pita chips that was outstanding. When we ate all the chips, the server quickly brought us more, freshly fried and piping hot. My husband had the steak Oscar that was cooked perfectly to order and I had the lumberjack short ribs which was a huge portion without any fat, that fell apart easily. Everything was delicious. My husband and I went here for a date night after seeing so many reviews on the stark county takeout pages, I will give you some tips that we wish we would have known beforehand! Just because the menu is "upscale" does not mean the ambiance is such. This is a very OLD rundown building, the inside is very diner-esque, we dressed up thinking it was going to be "fancy" but it definitely was casual and we felt a bit silly after walking in. The table beside us was a lady in her scrubs still with a child, and the table on the other side was wearing workout clothes and eating a burger so, very casual atmosphere. One thing I didn't like was that the tables are SO CLOSE together, unless you get a booth, the tables in the back are literally on top of each other, we wanted to have a nice date night but that wasn't an option here, so if you are looking for a quiet/romantic place this is not it, we were wedged between two tables with maybe 10 inches between each, maybe. Onto the food....and service, when asking for sangria, or a sweet wine, the server had no idea about wine, she kept having to go ask the bartender who must have just told her just to say no they didn't have any, so I ended up ordering a cocktail instead. We ordered the crab and steak stuffed mushrooms which were great and came with a very tasty dipping sauce, they brought out pretzels and beer cheese on the house (i think they delivered them to the wrong table, because they tried to bring salads that weren't ours either) My husband got the ribeye and I got the 10 oz hangar steak and they were cooked perfect and SO flavorful. Another girl was helping out our server and she was very nice and personable. So I went here with my parents the other night, and I found it to be a charming little bar area with vintage wood work at the bar. Beautiful molding in the wood and classic tin-pressed ceilings. I'm sure that bar holds lots of cool local history and stories. It is not a large space, and it filled up quickly early on a Friday evening. I had the fish and chips, which was absolutely delicious. I loved the fresh cut fries and the crispy fish. The coleslaw left some things to be desired. A little sloppy and over-mayonaissed, but I wasn't mad, because I was too full to eat that anyhow. My parents weren't as excited about their meals, but I think they probably ordered the wrong thing. (They have been doing a low carb diet and missed out on the amazing fried options that I had.) Excellent find. We heard about this place and drove from Uniontown (20 or so minutes). Our service was great. My parents loved the berry mojito and scratch lemonade. We tried the mussel appetizer special which was amazing as well as started with Caesar salads and clam chowder. For dinner, I had the petite strip with bacon/blue cheese/and peppercorn topper along with Mac and cheese. My husband had the aged New York strip with asparagus and a loaded baked potato. Mother had the filed Oscar style with crab meet (they were out of lobster) and my dad had the brisket meal (he strongly recommended it). All good was VERY good. Great priced wines. The Pinot noir was excellent for the economical price. The food was really delicious. Perfect sear and robust beef flavor on my filet. The potato bombs were aptly named. My husband loved his steak with a peppercorn sauce, spicy Mac and cheese. My cocktail was a peach sangria and it was strong and delicious/fresh tasting. Our waitress Tiana* was welcoming, warm, and just a pleasure to talk to. I didn't catch the kitchen manager's name but he came out to ask us about our food twice, and he was also very kind and nice. Our server packed up our meals (which we hadn't started yet) and we left. I was starving by the time I got home and decided to eat my meal. The Mac and cheese was ok. Nothing special. The zucchini was good. The steak was horrible! It was so tuff I could hardly cut it. I did try to eat a piece but I barely could chew it. I ended up putting it in the food processor and gave it to my son's dog. The next day I spoke with my friends who also ordered the steak and asked what they thought. They both said they had never had a steak so tuff. Needless to say they both put it in the trash! We will not be going back read more

My wife and I were so looking forward to a top line steak but were disappointed so much so as never to return. Realizing this type of restaurant is not a Ruth's Chris steakhouse, mattered not. Ambiance be damned, just bring on a great steak and good sides. Not judging books by their covers (but in this case it would indeed apply) the restaurant had an eclectic, if not Dollar General decor when entering. Immediately on the left, were a handful of kitchen towels, you know, the white ones with blue stripes, scattered about on the floor sopping up some type of moisture, apparently for quite some time. We had reservations and were seated promptly and cordially. One of the few bright spots, to be sure. Speaking of cordial, it must be noted that our waitress did everything to accommodate and was very attentive. We left her a generous tip even though the meal was subpar. Not her fault. We should have listened when she dog-whistled that pasta was a good choice. She wasn't much of a meat eater. I can see why. One Cosmo, one Hot Shrimp Cocktail, two salads, two strip steaks (not the aged ones), mac n' cheese and smoky au gratin potatoes were ordered. Pretzel and cheese surprise app-had possibilities but were soaked and shining with a layer of oil or butter. The dark orange Cheese Whiz-esque dip was unremarkable but, in hindsight, the best part of this experience. Cosmo-not well constructed-cloudy in appearance. Salads-they were real green and not bad except for the Green Goddess dressing I ordered that seemed an awful lot like blue cheese and Italian. Hot Shrimp Cocktail-2 skewers of dry overcooked smallish shrimp with no garnish and chewy burnt taste. Awful. Strip steaks-well marbled with gristle. 2 of the worst steaks we have ever had. In fact-the very first time I ever returned a steak as it was inedible. Both had an awkward char about them, not the usual picturesque grill marks, but an overall char that seemed like asphalt sealer with salt. To be fair, when I told the waitress the steak was not at all good, she did everything she could to make it right. I asked her if the steaks were cut by hand in house but she didn't know. If they had been, I might have tried another go from another loin. The floor boss came over and also attempted to make it right. I told him I would try the hanger steak at half the price. Even though it was much better than the strips, it still was not a piece of meat worthy of the price. Mac n'Cheese-menu said that it had a hint of spice. My wife couldn't even think about eating it, so we switched since I like spicy, but it was still too hot. Chefs need to taste their food and/or have the staff taste to confirm. Smoky au gratin potatoes-sadly had a burnt pack of matches taste similar to steaks and shrimp. My hobby is smoking things and this was not a good example. Next time, I would go to Dumas Meats, north of here and pick up some always perfect, grass fed beef of your choice, crank up an internet video on how to cook it in a cast iron skillet, then enjoy. To top it off, there was a table of very noisy and drunk Gen Zr's that were seemingly trying to be the Housewives of Louisville. Big fail that management didn't attempt to quiet them protecting the best interests of every other quiet patron in place that might otherwise leave a generous tip. After another 15 min he finally took our order. We ordered red hot potato bombs those were the only reason this is getting 2 stars. The service was terrible. They rightfully comped the meals and drinks that either didn't come or were done wrong. However, there were many things that should've been done different to handle the clear mess. We came here for a wedding anniversary dinner on a Saturday evening for a nice dinner, figured it was a nice place based on other reviews I read. We walked in and the place was really neat with the decor and old building feel, we were greeted and seated promptly as I had made reservations and sure glad I did. Our server was very nice and welcoming and helpful with the menu, lots of specials on menu for a Saturday night some of which we ordered. We opted for a appetizer the chorizo dip and it was good average but we enjoyed it. Next our main course my wife ordered a Mediterranean Chicken dish and she said it was good and I ordered a dry aged ribeye steak. Food came out in a timely manor but unfortunately my steak was over cooked and VERY tough our server noticed this and gladly took it and was going to have a new one prepared for me, 20 minutes later I got my new steak and the owner personally brought it out it looked delicious until I cut it open and reveal a purple almost cold center (I ordered medium) so he was very taken back by that and returned it back to the kitchen to continue to cook it, at this time my wife's meal was getting cold and I told her to enjoy it while it's still somewhat warm. So our server came by and I just told her to cancel my steak we had more plans that evening and we couldn't keep pushing the timeline for our evening, so the owner returned with a steak for the third time and we had already expressed that we had to leave and explained that to him as well so needless to say I didn't get to have any steak that evening. The owner was a standup guy obviously removed the steak from my bill and was very embarrassed about the turn of events and gave us a gift card for a future visit. A friend of ours all the way in Vancouver saw a post on Facebook that had gone viral about this owner and his kindness and she tagged us in it - so this afternoon we decided to take a drive and check it out! We are very glad we did! First off let me just say I totally love the atmosphere. It's super laid back just booths, some tables and a nice long bar! They had a great mix of 80s music playing but it wasn't so loud that we couldn't carry on a conversation so that was good. There are TVs so if you wanted to watch a game while here you could but I didn't feel like I was in a bar at all. They have a large menu but it is meat centric so know going in if you have any vegetarians even the salads have meat. And to vegetarians I say, remember it says Steakhouse in the menu so I feel that is only fair. we took a few minutes to check out our options but we are such a steak loving family we knew what we had come for! My daughter ordered the Sirloin 8oz. and added a Marsala topping. For hew two side choices she chose a Caesar salad and potato bombs. My husband chose the 16 oz. ribeye and it topped with onions. His two side chores were a side salad and a baked potato. I chose the 12 oz. filet with a topping called "Swimming in shrimp" with a Caesar salad and baked potato. My sister, who cannot eat meat, chose a Caesar salad, a side of their Mac and Cheese (that the menu warns has a "little" kick) and baked potato and French fries. Just before the salads arrived the waitress brought out the most delicious looking rolls and and herbed butter. The rolls were good, but they were cold, I think if they had been warm they would have truly been even better. The salads were absolutely delicious! The Caesar dressing is one of the best I have ever had and the lettuce was so fresh and green, I would go back just for the Caesar salad. (and I am not a salad person LOL) The meals arrived and they looked wonderful. All the steaks were cooked 100% perfectly. Rhyan's sirloin was beautiful and the mushroom and port Marsala topping on it really set it off. She loved every bite - and the one she shared with me I enjoyed as well. The potato bombs she had as a side she enjoyed, too. They are mashed potatoes with cheese, cream cheese and onion rolled and fried like little puffs. I would have had them as well if they did not have onion in them. Jason said his ribeye was one of the best steaks he has had in a long time. His baked potato was very tough though and Luke warm. My filet was cooked beautifully and the topping on it was a garlic butter cream sauce with about 4 large shrimp in it. It was good. I liked the flavors together and would definitely recommend it. My potato was not tough but it was lukewarm as well and when I added the butter and sour cream to it - it made it ice cold. My sisters potato was also lukewarm but it had cheese that had been melted in it so it was a fraction warmer than mine. The Mac and cheese was waaaaay more spicy than "a little kick" and she couldn't eat it. The fires were also cold. Our waitress did come over and asked how we were and my sister told her about the Mac and cheese. She replied "Too hot in temperature or spice" my sister said spice and the waitress said "oh" and walked off....and didn't return. My sister ate the potato and we ended up leaving the fries and Mac and cheese. So here are some of the downsides : My husband had to ask for a refill for his coffee while waiting on our salads. Nobody ever got asked about drink refills. At all. After she asked about the meal and my sister told her about her Mac and cheese she never returned. She never offered more bread, or came near us for us to ask for more. We had to flag her down for the check and I watched her walk away from keying it in 3 times before she finished and brought it over. She did not ask us about the fries that were left or the Mac and cheese ever again. I was shocked. Normally if you're not eating an order the restaurant would try and help you find something you could eat. Now honestly, I DO NOT think this is a restaurant problem. I could see other waitresses being really on the ball. I do not know if our girl was just new and trying to get the hang of it... but she needs some training. So between her and the cold potatoes I had to only give them a 4 star. They are damn good steaks so that keeps my score pretty high. I will def be coming back and giving them another try! This is a new restaurant in Orrville. It really should not be up against mush competition, but it will be. I was there last Sunday for Mother's Day, I had the Salomon and it was a little well done for my taste, but not bad and that was my fault. I forgot to tell the server to have it more on the rare side. My sister's steak was enough for two and she shared it with my husband. It came with a salad large enough for two and another side, she got a baked potato big enough for two. I got an apple salad that was delicious . For the amount of food served the price range is a bargain . I am going to give you an example 3 oz steak for $37. at another steakhouse. This steak was between 5-10 oz. My husband and I went to a chop house and paid $65. for the steak only. To be truthful Orrville needs an upscale restaurant and foot traffic, it will help every other business here. Since we had heard good things about this restaurant, we stopped when we were driving through Louisville. It was early on a Friday night and the restaurant was relatively empty. We sat @ the bar. The atmosphere is homey, casual and welcoming. There are booths in the bar/lounge area.. We didn't go into the larger dining room. I had an Autumn martini and my boyfriend had a Goose martini. The drinks were both excellent. Their standout specialty is the dry aged steak, which we were anxious to try. My partner and I always share a meal, no matter if we're at a elegant restaurant or a local diner. We just can't each eat an entire portion anywhere. We like to sample an appetizer, soup, salad, and/or dessert w/our meal, so one portion w/those additions is plenty. When we said we would share a 16 oz steak (smallest aged steak available), the bartender (our server) said there would be a $20 split charge!!! I about fell off the bar stool. Yes, some restaurants still charge a "split", or "extra plate" charge, usually in the $5-$8 range. Many high end restaurants have abandoned that practice. We frequently indulge in fine dining ( wherever we travel all over the country) and very, very few establishments still have this type of charge (and if they do, it is stated on the menu). So....we wanted to stay and try the steak, but were debating about it, mostly because we knew we couldn't eat two complete meals and just because we were taken aback by the exorbitant charge. As we discussed it, our bartender came back and said she was mistaken, it was a $15 charge. She was really rather indifferent/harsh about it. As if to say, "you don't like it....go elsewhere, we don't need your business". We decided to stay (I was tempted to leave just on principle alone) and I ordered an French onion soup (very good), and a goat cheese/mixed salad (also very good). We figured better to pay for something rather than pay just to split! My boyfriend had the dry aged ribeye (exceptional, cooked perfectly, perhaps a tad bit under seasoned) with potatoes Romano(creamy, rich, yummy) and asparagus carbonara (excellent). The mushrooms and onions we ordered to top the steak were not there. Rather than hassle w/the server we just ignored the oversight. The charge was not on our bill. We ended up taking home over half of the steak, over half of the potatoes, and half of the salad. We finished the soup and asparagus. So one meal was MORE than plenty for us. We might have ordered the soup and salad anyway, because we like to sample when we're at a new restaurant, but I very much resented the implication that we were trying to "get off on the cheap" by sharing a meal. The steak was $43 so this is not an inexpensive place. Our total bill was $93. Since, even on a Friday night, they didn't have people standing in line to get in IMO they can not afford to turn away customers just because they'd like to share their meal. It's always extra special if the kitchen actually splits the meal onto two plates (which is what many fine dining restaurants WITHOUT a charge do), but it's not necessary. Just providing the diners with an extra plate to split things themselves is fine and doesn't create any extra work for the kitchen. Will we come back???I don't know. I would go back for the food and drinks, but the "split plate" charge (although one can get around it as we did) is insulting and antiquated. And let's remember, this is Louisville, Ohio.....not New York City! Establishments should encourage diners to feel comfortable w/their choices of dining style rather than discouraging them. They took her meal off the bill after they even said the steaks weren't the same and even with that our bill was 140$. We also had a bottle of warm water left at the table to drink with no ice. Wanted to try local restaurants during covid so headed to Louisville for lunch. First time at scratch. Atmosphere and service were excellent! Love the small town feel. What a great gem in north east Ohio. There isn't enough stars for the food, service and the ambiance of this restaurant. Our waiter was awesome and friendly. The owner was there working with the staff and treated the customers. If your in the area highly recommend. read more

This gem in Louisville, your missing out if haven't tried it out. We sat at the bar and had great service and banter with the bartender. Got to meet the owner Tim. What a close place we have been missing out on. FYI the pretzel sticks and cheese are the free bread. read more

We came to Scratch for dinner last night, 4 of us, 2 celebrating birthdays. Monday special is half price Strips steaks and Ribeyes! The menu has plenty of options, which we all love that! We stopped by during a road trip. This was the most amazing food I have ever had. The stuffed mushrooms were melt in you mouth, the steak Oscar was to die for and I have the most amazing cheesecake ready for breakfast. The staff was friendly, personable and made you feel very welcome. To anyone in the area or passing through you have to stop by and try the food it is out of this world. read more
