Ive lived within 15 minutes of this place for over 20 years and never knew it existed until recently. We had reservations with family on a Saturday night at 6pm and finally got to try it out. The place was already basically packed and it was lively. It gave me an old vibe of a place from the 60s/70s, but didn't feel dated. It was loud in here so if that bothers you, this is your warning. Our server was very nice and attentive. The food was really good. The brussel sprouts standing out the most. My steak was ordered at medium and it came out as such. It was slightly tough on a couple of cuts thru it, but otherwise spot on. The parking lot is narrow and tight. If you're coming I'd recommend a reservation if it's a bit after opening. We did make reservations and asked for a booth. It was our anniversary. We weren't told no booths were available. And the table we were shown was not even a normal size table. And as far as maybe the person seating us was rude becaue of our attitude... we responded based on her unprofessional attitude towards us. We were completely caught iff guard . First time here and everything was amazing! We ordered mozzarella sticks, shrimp, and garlic bread.. everything was great! I got the filet with a twice-loaded baked potato, and my steak was cooked perfectly (the Cajun butter was so good). Our server Johnny was super friendly and gave great recommendations. I want to keep patronizing this place but the food has been hit or miss the last couple of times. Last night, it took over an hour and a half to get our meals. Three of the 4 steaks were served nearly raw,not the medium and medium rare we ordered. For a place that specializes in steaks, this is inexcusable, especially at the prices they charge. The waitress was very friendly and was genuinely upset about the steaks. She offerEd to have them redone but by this time we had been there 2 hours and no one wanted to wait even longer. This little steak house is a very nice surprise. New York strip was perfectly cut and grilled. Filet, shrimp and chicken trio was a delightful meal with a hint of cajun spice, topped with a honey glaze. I will be back just for this trio! Blueberry martini and black raspberry margarita were really good too! The waitress, Jessica, was fun, friendly and fast. The right combo! As someone who has logged nearly a million miles traveling for business I think I am very qualified to rate restaurants. I cannot give this place a rating any better than 1 star. On Saturday April 9th my wife and a friend stopped by for dinner without a reservation I may add. Since the only seats available were at the bar we sat at the bar. After about 20 minutes we were finally asked if we wanted a drink, and another 15 or 20 minutes ordered our food. We sat there while all the regulars filled up the empty tables. An hour later we still had not received our food. We unfortunately had to leave to be somewhere. We paid for our drinks and left, Food, may be good, we never had the opportunity to decide. My first experience here was horrific. I would NOT recommend it. My friend had a surprise birthday dinner for her fiancé with friends and family. We all for the most part ordered steaks. The steaks were not seasoned and the food was cold. To make matters worse we were greeted by "wildlife" aka "roaches" who felt comfortable enough to dart across the table as if we were disturbing them. We immediately asked to speak to the manager. When we brought it to the manager's attention he replied, "I can't do anything about it." The only thing that he did was take a percentage off of the bill when theoretically it should have been free. Sparta is clearly one of Canton's most famous restaurants, so I was really excited to try it. We had a reservation for 8PM (which they accepted). Upon arriving, we were told by Nick Margaritakis Sr. that the table was not ready. When more members of our group showed up, they went to ask if the table was ready yet, as it was well past our reservation time. Mr. Margaritakis Sr. rudely said, "I thought you knew the people who already asked about the reservation, but apparently not." Sensing how the night was about to go, I documented everything from that point. Here is the timeline of events: 8PM: Reservation time 8:25PM: Finally seated 8:48PM: Drink order taken 8:56PM: Food order taken 9:10PM: Salads came out 9:25PM: Food arrived Known for their steaks, we were all really excited and hoped the food would be better than the service; IT WAS NOT. Almost every steak was overcooked and unseasoned, not to mention their unappealing iceberg lettuce salads with a single cucumber. Generally, I am not one to complain at a restaurant because I understand things can get hectic, but given the price, I asked to speak with a manager to see if we could get a discount. When Nick Sr. approached the table, we explained our frustration with the service and food. He insisted that he sat us at 8:10PM, and said, "Why did you even come here?" At that point, I was ready to leave. Our waitress ran and got Nick Jr. (to his credit he was very apologetic) and he made sure nobody at our table had to pay for the food which was very much appreciated. Cleary Sparta Steak House & Lounge has a rich history in Canton, and I don't doubt that many people genuinely enjoy it there. While "retaining old-school roots" is appealing, I hope the new generation of management recognizes the need to make some serious changes. If you are looking for a local steakhouse with a rich history, I highly recommend Baker's Cafe 33 - way better service and food. read more

This is a fantastic mid priced steakhouse. I ordered the porterhouse that was on special. It was well seasoned, cooked perfect as ordered, and the Sparta fries were tasty. I had some of the baked potato that someone in my party ordered and that was delicious. I would definitely do that as my side next time. I also had the house blueberry martini and if you like blueberries, it is a must. The staff was very friendly and it was a well organized operation. Wish I could say the same for the food. The salad was head lettuce with a slice of cucumber and a hot pepper. The house dressing was basic salad oil and red wine vinegar with dried Italian seasonings mixed in. I ordered the rib eye and 1/3 of it was inedible fat. The potato slices were totally inconsistent.
