If we could give more stars, we would. Mel promptly replied to our phone call. He scheduled our house-call in a timely manner. He arrived at the scheduled time. He went right to work. Troubleshot our 12 year old Laser printer (Brother HL-2280DW) and gave his honest opinion and proposed a solution. Sadly, the cost of the part and the labor to repair the paper tray feeder was not in the budget. He did show us the work-around. Infinite thumbs up! After reviewing the results for Copier Repair options from Yelp, I contacted Scribe Tech. I am so glad that I did. Mel is responsive, honest, provides professional written quotes/invoices for his work, he is able to get parts very quickly, and he has been able to keep our older Toshiba copy machine working very well. Mel has reset codes, cleaned and performed general service, replaced parts, rebuilt parts, updated the software, etc. He is experienced and knows what he is doing. Each time we have utilized his services, he has communicated his timeline, cleaned the machine, and left the surrounding area spotless. He gives us heads up about parts that are starting to get worn, but is never pushy about replacing things until they actually wear out. We now call Mel for all our copier tech needs! read more

I was NOT happy. (also see update below). This world of used copiers, toners and copy repair is its own ecosystem with numbers that are unreasonable. I got sucked in by a flat rate of $150 for labor, regardless of actual time spent on the machine, plus parts. From there the estimate to repair the copier, for which i paid $1500, went up to $1080. I wish I had known that was a possibility before agreeing to the $150, because the end result was owing $150 and still having a broken copier. I felt a bit taken, so I looked on amazon, found a brand-new machine that can do everything these older ones can, for under $400. Now I am back in a world of reasonable numbers. Lesson learned. I spoke with Mel quite a bit, have no doubt he's a good repair guy and knows his stuff, but the numbers just DON'T MAKE SENSE. Update: Mel has declined payment. I am still willing to pay his fee, but he is upset with the review. He did clean and diagnose the machine. Also, the first person I contacted did not work on toshibas and referred me to Mel. I have changed my review up to 3 stars, but will not remove the review because people should know about this encounter. I'll reiterate that Mel does seem to know his stuff and is probably a good repair guy but explore all costs and options before committing to a large upfront fee. read more

I had to post an update....it's the least I can do. I have a large RUSH job that we're running. $7500 I came in to run it all day Saturday and Sunday so it could go off to bindery on Monday and deliver to the customer on Tuesday. Wouldn't you know it....after running half the job....the machine had an issue. So I called Mel on Saturday morning...(Sorry Mel!) and told him the situation. He didn't hesitate.....canceled his personal plans and came straight over. At this point, I'm thinking it's going to take a miracle. I'm screwed and so is my customer. (to be honest....they told me it was half the size it was.....so when I told them how much time I needed....and I got the files, it was double the size. Hence...me coming in Sat and Sun to make their deadline) Mel showed up and.....amazenley, diagnosed and fixed it in about an hour. I usually don't write many reviews, but when Kudos are due, I pay up!! Scribe Tech was the 1st of 4 companies to respond to our request for a Color Laser Printer service company to service our printer which was long overdue for service. Mel contacted me within 30 minutes after I posted my request and after explaining that we had not had the machine services in like 4 years but now we were now experiencing troubles with a yellow tint on the outer edges of each page we printed, he said "No problem." Mel was able to come that afternoon. One of the things that impressed me the most, was his professionalism and the fact that he carried and used covers for his shoes before he came into our home office. He was very knowledgeable, got straight to the cleaning of the machine. His service rates were very reasonable and when he discovered that we needed a couple of rollers that were wore out, he promptly called his supplier(s) and was able to give us a quote and time estimate to complete the repairs. We accepted his quote for the repairs and in 2 business days, we were completely up and running without any issues. He didn't leave us High & Dry either. He said that the yellow tint issue was taken care of and we could still use the printer until the new rollers came in. Being a small Accounting/Bookkeeping & Tax Preparation business, we cannot afford to be without a working printer. I had an HP 2035 laser jet printer that need the paper feed roller assembly changed. The Tech came to my home the day of my call, installed the new roller assembly and cleared a paper fragment causing a paper jam in the upper single sheet feed tray. This cost $144 vs $190 for refurbished HP 2035 from Amazon (with no guarantee how well it had been "refurbished", plus four day shipping delay) or new HP 2035 current model for over $600. I called him to help me fix my Samsung printer he responded promptly told me he knew what the error code meant Told me he can come by the next day on a Saturday showed up on time clean wearing gloves and mask shoe coverings took apart my printer fixed it did a great job.
