My sister and I have worked with Scripps Poway Fence multiple times over the years to install and repair fencing at our home in Rancho Penasquitos. So when my Mom's fence needed replacement, I reached out to Ron for a quote in the Fall of 2020. They were extremely busy so I had to wait for a while, but I got an appointment and Ron gave me a quote. My Mom's fence was literally ready to fall over, and it almost did in the bad winds that we had in January. The team came out in late January and they got to work. We replaced both sides of the fence, two gates and some lattice work around a concreate patio. It took close to 3 days to complete the work and the team did an amazing job!!! They spent a lot of time measuring and making sure that everything was straight and clean. It's a simple cedar fence, but it looks absolutely beautiful!! Our neighbor has a large tree growing right on the fence line and the roots were lifting the fence. The team spent a significant amount of time digging out a ton of tree roots in order to level the fence out in that area. I know it became a much bigger task than was expected, but they did a fantastic job and didn't charge me anything extra. They also did more than was expected on the lattice work. They had planned to re-use the plastic lattice insert that I had and just replace the wood. But instead they replaced the entire thing with a gorgeous two-tone wood lattice structure!!! We absolutely LOVE IT!!! Ron was very responsive to all of my requests, and I can't say enough good things about the quality of the work! Our neighbors were extremely happy as well! I would have given zero, but giving one star for the good fence material. While their materials as good as others, the workmanship is very poor. They did mine and my neighbor's fences. Here is my feedback in terms of pros and cons. Pros: 1. Good material 2. Ensures that right material is used 3. if re work is needed while work is going on takes your feedback and fixes issues Cons: 1. Very poor workmanship. Workers are just labors, do not have great experience in fence installation. 2. Leaves your yard dirty, uncleaned with pieces sewn all over places 3. Breaks your irrigation system,valves. Gives reason that as part of installation they tend to break things but are not responsible to fix them. 4. Destroys the plants and no accountability 5. No proper planning. takes things as they come across resulting in delay and chaos. 6. Leaves gaps between fence panels and gives excuses that it is part of installation. Expects you to readjust panels as and when you find a gap. Make sure that you don't make final payment unless you are completely satisfied and things are cleaned up and fixed. I had bad experience of them ignoring my requests once the final payment was made. I definitely don't recommend this fence company. You get similar or great quality products and services with other companies. read more

We had over 400' of cedar fencing we needed replaced. Some had lattice on top, some was just dog eared. Ron's prices were very fair. His crew did all of the work in about 5 days with no issues. I had a wooden fence and gate installed by Scripps Poway Fencing. The installation was substandard. For example, many of the wooden slats were cracked, split, and with many knot holes. Although the fence was to be "dog tight", many areas were not. The bottoms of the wooden slats also are different lengths. The fence also is not sturdy. At the first wind in san diego, the gate was ripped off of the post. However, the company refused to repair the post and gate for approximately 6 weeks. Therefore, I had to find someone to repair and replace the gate. Overall, the work was substandard and the follow-up customer service was poor. read more

My old wooden fence blew down during a Santa Ana wind storm. Ron had his team out within a day. They temporarily fixed my fence so I would have a fence while waiting for the material order for the new vinyl fence I selected. The new fence looks great. I'm writing this review 3 years later because of the customer service. There was a small issue with one of the fence posts due to settling. I contacted Ron and he had his team come out within a week. While at my home they not only fixed the issue but checked the entire fence line for any issues and made adjustments as needed no questions asked. SPF replaced a 90 ft cedar plank fence for myself and next door neighbor. There were a few issues we discovered after the install, mainly due to the fence being on a slope with differing ground level between the two yards and also changing from all planks on one side to a "good neighbor" design with alternating sections. Ron came out the very next day with his crew in tow, was completely agreeable and all of the issues were corrected. The quality of the planks, framing, metal posts and overall installation is good. Down to earth, professional. Excellent quality of work, but what stood out was his staff. His crew treated my wife with respect ALWAYS. Very courteous while on my property. Jose was the best of them. Making sure everything was exactly how we wanted. There were 2 mistakes (probably made by me!) and when I contacted Ron he simply said "Ok, I'll take care of it." If I could give this company a Zero for their customer service, I would. I'd contacted Ron to attempt to schedule a consult for our new fence. He emailed me requesting a 9am Saturday morning appointment, which I said we could not make. We exchanged emails discussing a possible time Saturday afternoon, but he never got back to me to finalize a time. Then he proceeded to send his estimator to my house at 9am on a Saturday when I had clearly told him that time didn't work. His guy knocked persistently at my door for a long time, so I finally answered the door, and seeing it was the fence company, sent him away letting him know that he didn't have an appointment. I followed up with Ron via email to let him know that I was not happy about this scheduling error. He just said "sorry". Since there was no attempt to remedy the situation or really take ownership, I emailed back to let him know that we would not be working with his company, and to please not contact me again. To this I received this incredibly rude and childish reply: "You contacted us. Take a nap." Considering that Ron had not even met me or had a chance yet to try and earn my business, this has to be some kind of record for the rudest comment ever emailed to a potential customer. Steer clear of Scripps Poway Fence, they are simply downright rude. read more

Truly disappointed. Called for a quote for our fence since he had replaced some neighbors' fences. He indicated that most of the wood and posts were in good shape so it really just needed to be repaired. When the quote came back at about 1/2-2/3 of what our neighbors paid to REPLACE their fences, we went ahead with it. I was stunned by the horrible "repair" when the team said they were finished and had no more materials to replace obviously rotten wood. After going back and forth with Ron, he came by to walk through the project and agreed to do further repairs at no additional charge. When I gave him full payment after the second visit, he told me if there were any other issues to let him know. A few days later the painter pointed out this cap that was partially hidden by a plant and wasn't worth painting. I contacted Ron and was told it would cost another $150 to replace two boards AND he said they are no longer doing fence repairs. Wish he would have told us before he started the job. 2 stars is being generous. read more

After doing a good amount of research including Yelp reviews I eventually got four estimates to replace my old wood fence with new cedar fencing. Two of the four companies really didn't want to come out to my house but gave me a ballpark estimate of per lineal foot. The other two companies offered great response and detailed written estimates. Ron Heater and Scripps Poway fence gave me the best estimate so I went with them. Great first step. When it came time to actually do the work his crew showed up on the exact day that I was given. They did a great job of removal, haul away and most importantly my new fence looks great.The job was completed in two days. We used Scripps Poway Fence in early 2012 with good results, so when we needed more fencing work, we just called them. Clearly, things have changed. Our landscaping is mature and beautiful, and we were clear that not trashing it during the fence repair would be important to us. Our neighbors have NO landscaping along the fence. We were told that it was equally important to SP Fence that our home look better, not worse, after the fence install, and they would do almost all the work from the neighbors side. Our side would barely be impacted. The fence was installed a couple of weeks ago. The landscaping is trashed. I had removed all vines and supporting trelllis' from the fence prior to the replacement. The workers stomped on the vines, stomped and crushed two wooden trellis's, and managed to cut off nearly every single living branch of a 7 year old jasmine that was on a trellis mounted 15" in front of the fence. They took the stomped up trellis' and nail-gunned them to the new fence, crooked, split and broken. They left the dead branches of the jasmine for me to clean up. The jasmine will take years to recover. The trellis' will need to be replaced. All of this is next to our front door - just in time for the holidays. We contacted owner Ron Heater, several times before he finally responded. He offered to meet us at our house to review the damage. Today, he sent an email refusing to meet with us and demanding payment (the invoice was printed 10/15/13), and so it appears he urgently needs money and customer satisfaction isn't a priority. We plan to file a complaint with Angies List penalty box, and also file a small claims court claim for the damaged trellis and landscaping. On Angies List, we will be posting the pictures and all our email communications with Ron. We recommend you find someone else to do your fence work. read more

To All, We used Scripps Poway Fence for the rebuild after the fires in 2007. The fence was installed in August of 2009 and this year 2013 in March I discovered an issue with the concrete mix for the posts. I called and in 2 days they were on site and replaced all the bad concrete. I can't say enough about the superior service and the professionalism of the manager that came on site to inspect the issue. This level of service is unheard of in todays world. We had 2 PVC gates installed and immediately had issues with the gates sagging and not being able to close properly. The construction was sloppy leaving unfinished edges that were sharp and the caps were never installed. We had them out 3 times to fix it and the gate still sags. They said they could not do anything else. We have to slam the gate shut which we should not have to do. We asked for handles to be added so we could lift the gate rather than having to force it shut. They said they would do it for $300. Why should we have to pay for them to fix a faulty gate? We don't even want handles, we want the working gate that we paid thousands for. Their lifetime warranty is not a warranty and their products are faulty. We have friends who have similar gates and have had no issues. Buyer beware! The video shows how loose the gate is and how much it drops. The photo shows it is not level and how much it drops. For thousands of dollars the gate should not be so cheap. read more

If you've pretty much given up hope of ever finding a fencing company that does substandard work and repeatedly misses appointments that it has scheduled, take heart, for I have found the answer to your prayers. Since, as the ads promoting the major investment firms admit in very fine print, past results are no guarantee of future performance, I can't promise that you'll experience the same six-pack of blunders that I enjoyed, but that uncertainty is all the more reason for you to hire these guys to see what new foul-ups they've added to their already-impressive repertoire. Here's a sneak peek at what you can look forward to from them: using wood slats that were too short to cover the steel posts, leaving about 8" to 10" of stark bare silver metal exposed on each one (bonus points go to the installers for mounting each slat upside down with the dogeared end at the bottom) (double bonus points have to be awarded for their demonstrating their total lack of aesthetics by mounting the most misshapen piece of wood in the entire supply of slats on the steel post that is most visible from my kitchen window); not aligning horizontal base boards to cover large gaps at the bottom of 3 sections; mounting several slats with multiple unsightly horizontal black stripes running across them instead of discarding them as unusable; trampling all over my newly resuscitated bright green iceplant (nourished by water that I saved by flushing the toilet only once per day) while scrupulously avoiding stepping into patches of dirt that might have soiled their already-encrusted work boots (another reviewer also noted this same problem, so I think that you can rejoice at the near-certainty of encountering similar destruction since this appears to be their basic m.o.); jury-rigging the connection to a section of my old fence at a three-way junction by sawing 12" off of each of two 18"-long pieces of wood that held it firmly in place, leaving a pair of 6" stumps of wood protruding into space instead of cutting them both flush with the established fence post; being promised that all of these problems would be fixed on Tuesday, but coming home to find the old fence section mentioned just above swinging in the breeze since their "fix" consisted of simply ripping off the old protruding pieces of wood and replacing them with nothing in the newly-created 3"-wide gap that now existed; staying home all day Wednesday after being informed that this new problem would be resolved, but, of course, it wasn't, or else I wouldn't be writing this; being told that they would be here Thursday, but wisely not believing it and going to work instead; being given two different arrival times on Friday, with the crew showing up late for the initial one but early for the revised ETA. All in all, a royal botch... P.S. Don't be misled by the disingenuous comments that once appeared on this page and could, presumably, be reposted by Ron H., who, not surprisingly, gave this company a 5-star rating from his entirely neutral vantage point as one of its co-owners. Though my neighbor on the east side was the customer of record for this job, I agreed in advance of the construction--or, in my experience, the destruction--to pay him half of the not-inconsiderable cost of replacing 5 1/2 sections of our common fence, so, yes, I do have skin in this game, so to speak. Also, Ron H. saw all of these problems firsthand on the Monday that he came to my house to inspect the full extent of the shoddy workmanship, and he agreed to send his crew back on Tuesday to correct all of the defects that I listed in my review. So, his allegation that my complaints are all trumped-up examples of "good fiction" reveals utter mendacity on his part, and not a fevered imagination on mine. (Incidentally, if you delete the score of his ethically questionable self-serving 5-star review and recalculate the overall average rating of his outfit, it comes out to only 2.6 stars, and not 3.) read more

This is the third time we have used Scripps Poway fence and once again they did excellent work, were on time, and Roberto and his crew were conscientious and very helpful and accommodating. The fence turned out great, and the extra jogs we had in this section were done very well. They worked around a lot of landscaping and did a good job of being careful. They also installed some root barrier for bamboo and repaired some deck posts, also done very well. I'm typically not one to write reviews, and figured the majority of people writing reviews on this site are customers with negative experiences, thereby making it difficult for consumers to accurately assess a company. I was not asked to write this review, but am writing it since these guys deserve a great review. We had a few sections of fence knocked out by the last windstorm. The sections needing to be replaced were on a steep hill that is not easy to stand on, let-alone work on. These guys came out quickly to provide an estimate an got the work done on time and within budget. Lifetime guarantee on their vinyl. Think again. I had Scripps Poway Fencing install vinyl fencing and gates ten years ago. I wanted vinyl so it should have been maintenance free. I have had three separate gate posts completely crack and fall apart. The manufacturer provided the materials at no cost but Scripps Poway Fencing charged me $250 labor to replace the defective work. When the second post completely cracked they replaced it at their expense. Now, I have another post completely crack and they want me to pay another $250 to replace their defective work. I told them I have already paid for the posts when they were originally installed and I am sick of having to pay again for their defective work. They asked me to do their job and call the manufacturer who said they would provide new vinyl at no charge! I relayed the info back to Scripps Poway Fencing in November. I have not received even a courtesy call since then - that's almost three months. LOOK FOR ANOTHER FENCING COMPANY. read more

We tried to get 3 estimates to replace an RV gate and these guys were the only company that showed up when they said, got a bid to us right away, and still had the best price which seemed fair. They showed up to install as promised and the installers where friendly, and efficient. When we got home that day, the gate was finished but it lacked a lattice trim on top that the old gate had and all our other fences have. The installers pointed out that was not included on their work order or our original estimate, but they would talk to the owner. We thought, oh boy, here we go.... well 8 a.m.the next morning they are back, modified the fence, added the lattice to match and the owner, Ron, called to apologize and make sure we were pleased, all before noon!
