We were excited to see an Irish bar as we visited Denver. My boyfriend couldn't cross the street quick enough to get there. The wood bar is what you would expect for an Irish bar, but the rest just didn't fit with us. They heavily play country music....which those who love that type of music, I'm sure is great. But for those who don't, it quickly kills the fun vibe you are looking for...in an Irish bar. I don't want to listen to slow country songs while sitting at the bar....when we normally order an Irish car bomb and want a good time. The bartenders were very nice. The dog was super cute. The vibe was not what we expected. read more

First off, Scruffy's is a dive bar. I think by every definition you should not be rating a dive bar for anything other than it is- a dive bar! Do not expect some culinary or service amazingness! Come on people! Enjoy a dive for what it is. Good hard liquor, maybe some fun karaoke (yes, it was there the night we visited) and all the neighborhood locals. We were visiting so only stopped in the one time and everyone was fun and great! If you like a pretty cocktail in a pretty space- do not go here! If you like to have a good drink around good people, check out Scruffy's. read more

It's a great dive bar. This place is unpretentious and has a great atmosphere about it. If you are looking for a place to chill while enjoying a few beers then this is the place for you. Most of the places in this area of town are overpriced, overhyped, and don't meet expectations. Scruffy Murphy's is none of those things. I'll definitely be back. read more

Amazing time at Scruffies for their St.Patrick's day celebration, as they had a great band and they provided portapotties and the drinks were flowing. They were pouring them quickly to be sure. The atmosphere was rowdy and music was good! Thanks for putting on this event. read more

The DJ on a Saturday night was the best DJ ever ! Coming from CA Denver's music at places is sometimes not it and the DJs could be rude ! This DJ played everything ! The drinks were cheap and the vibes were there ! Definitely should check it out !! read more

Final stop on my girlfriend's bachelorette bar-crawl: Scruffy Murphy's! When our dwindling group of 5 made it here I was surprised, given that it was a Saturday night, to find that it was not as busy as neighboring bars. The music was the traditional mainstream hits. So we made our way to the dance floor and proceeded to dance the last bit of the night away. Once we had enough dancing, we ordered a couple rounds of mixed shots. Our bartender was on point and very friendly. She mixed up a pretty delish Scooby Snack (at least I think that's what we had). The bar top was covered in pennies and an acrylic coating. Super cool! There was a police call box in the area separating the two main parts of the pub. While it's a neat touch - it's not very Irish (IMO). There was a quarter pool table and an assortment of items decorated the exposed brick walls. Scruffy Murphy's Irish Pub was a great addition to our evening of bachelorette shenanigans. The bouncer is an absolute creep. The floors are disgusting and do not get me started on the bathroom. I've never seen a place be so much in shambles. The prices for a couple beers are absolutely insane. All the employees park their cars in the back patio and it really makes the place feel weird. Would not recommend. read more

As a woman, this bar bouncer saved me from a man who was threatening me from a bar pervasively. Invited me in and said this would be a safe place from the scary ass dude following me. Another bouncer handed me a rose as I was having a panic attack. Highly recommend this bar as they are fun and truly care about their customers safety. read more

Decent beer choice. However, seeing the bouncer throw a woman to the ground (face-first) for no apparent reason was a MAJOR buzz kill. Helped the woman (mid 40s) to her feet and get away, and the bouncer justified it by saying he "didn't care she was a woman". WOULD NOT EVER RECOMMEND. read more

There definitely was a scruffy crowd in this bar and there certainly seemed to be no good specials to be found on any of the beer during my visit. It was a karaoke night but it hadn't really gotten started yet so the bar seemed pretty dead. No beer specials and few people so I guess I was just unlucky to visit on an off night or way too early. read more

The DJ there was very discriminatory toward my friends and I (Boogie Man Mobile DJ). We would politely request music and he would say they already played it with a very mean attitude or would not acknowledge us at all. When other's requested music who were not of color he would play their song right away. Our group tried to ask multiple times for songs and he became more aggravated and dismissive with us. I did confront him at the end and he denied nothing when I asked if it's because of our race and even chuckled at the situation while letting another white individual behind me go with their song. This is very unprofessional and unacceptable I will be telling everyone of my experience. It's a shame the world we live in still has so much hatred. read more

OH MY GOD- hands down a flippin fun Irish Pub!!! Good bartenders, Steve and (Lauren?) were soooooo badass. They made the coolest drinks and shots for our party. I will come back for that Peach Whiskey drink with Ginger Ale, Cinnamon and what not. That drink was the key to my heart. We were so lucky to enter this pub while it was empty, so we had the front seats to the bar area. They had some interesting, fun flavors I've never seen available in other pubs. This is quite unique to me. Otherwise, if other pubs carry these flavors, then, I'm not drinking quite enough! They had Sour Patch drinks, very sweet, but with that edge of booze. We saw a pickle juice drink, we were both excited to dare each other to try it. The people are incredibly sweet and lots of seating to go around. read more

Walking through downtown Denver with a buddy and we see a sign that says $2 beers, so of course we have to check it out. We go inside, and the $2 beers are the classics -Bud, Coors, PBR, etc. And we are in the mood for something more craft. So we ask how much the other local beers on tap cost, thinking they are going to be 2 or 3 times the price of the posted special. Nope. $3 pours of delicious draft beer. Are you kidding me? The place was decorated for Halloween and ready to go. Loved this place and the vibe, happy to know a place like this can stay standing! read more

I want to give this a lower score but I'm not going to let my being super tired and over the night cloud my judgement. Super divey and dirty seeming but was pleasant. The bartenders seemed to know what they were doing even if they didn't look it or like they were having a good time in general. They were nice though. We ordered some happy hour food and the portions are ridiculous. I eat a ton of food but nobody needs two pounds of cheese curds! If I was splitting with people it still would've been too much. Not a complaint but I was just so surprised. They were also just alright. It's lively here and a whole hell of a lot less crowded than some of the other bars in the area with a slightly different crowd. read more

We did not eat here. So, it may be obvious that I like Irish pubs. I am not Irish, but I like Irish beer and Whiskey. Stopped here for a whiskey after dinner. They have a good selection. I like Green Spot and they have it. They also have Smithwicks. The bartenders are very nice and friendly. This pub is veteran friendly and offer discounts to veterans (added the extra star!). Way to go Scruffy! We will be back when in the area. read more

Scruffy's is definitely a downtown standby for myself and my friends when we're looking for a place to gather for any celebratory occasion. It's good for drinks, not for food. Scruffy's has the two best environments that I look for in a bar, both at different times. #1) Most nights it's the dead quiet, Irish pub with rugby and football matches on in the background with Smithwicks on tap amongst the other fine drinks that you might be looking for at this kind of establishment. #2) The rest of the nights that it's not dead quiet, it's packed. Rockies baseball post game celebrations and St Pattys days are definitely a good time for seeing the place busy. Getting to know the staff is your best chance of having a great time here. read more

Scruffy Murphy's is one of my go-to bars in Denver. Their stellar whiskey and rotating beer menu are enough to keep me coming back regularly, and the food has always been on point. Top that off with some of the best service you'll find within steps from the ball field makes this guy all smiles. Can whoever did the interior decoration at Scruffy's please just break into my home, rip everything off the walls and throw out all the furniture, and replace everything with what you deem suitable? Also, please replace all liquids with the bottles from the bar. Send an invoice to the city of Denver because it will become a historical landmark. We had a lot of fun here on our trip to Denver. We actually stopped in during a long wait for breakfast one morning so it was kind of spur-of-the-moment. I immediately noticed the row of infused vodkas on the bar and was intrigued. It was about 10 a.m., so I stuck with a screwdriver for a morning drink, but we came back later that night and I tried the gummy bear vodka with Sprite and it was great. More than anything, the bartender was super cool and helpful. I think he was also the general manager, but he gave us a lot of great recommendations for bars around town. read more

Relatively small and usually standing-room-only, the bartenders at this hole-in-the-wall are efficient and unbelievably nice. They have cheap, strong cocktails and a cozy atmosphere - and so near a concert venue. One would imagine the staff is jaded from belligerent show-goers. Alas, they're awesome. This has been my favorite bar since I turned 21. Since then, I've seen a lot of changes, but the essence has stayed the same. The staff is incredible. Craig and Steve are awesome and have made the place what it is through thick and thin. The beer selection is delicious, the pours are generous, and the prices are very reasonable. I haven't had the food in a while, but the sandwiches are delicious, and the shepherd's pie is amazing. Also, they have a very good Scotch selection. If you like a quiet environment during a weeknight or want to hang out in a high energy environment on the weekend, this place is perfect. The live music is definitely worth checking out, especially if 66 Days or Chris Koltak are playing. I try to introduce all my friends to Scruffy's, and almost all of them love it. Just be sure to pay the parking meter (or better yet take a cab) because the fine folks at parking enforcement are looking for an excuse to ruin your night with a $50 ticket. read more

We ended up stopping here for quite a while during my birthday excursion, because the drinks were good, the bartenders were hella nice, and we actually got a comfy table. One of the bartenders heard me raving about my love for cinnamon, so he made me some badass shot consisting of apple cinnamon liquor, and then lit it on fire and sprinkled some cinnamon, making a really neat little sparkling fire display. Extra mile, people, extra mile. There was also a little dancing room with a DJ playing some fun tunes, and we had a blast out there. The bathroom was nice for a bar potty. My friend's IPhone got stolen that night along with 3 others, and they ended up finding it buried in a napkin dispenser. When we went to pick it up, they were all so happy for my friend that they had found it. These people are pretty kickass. Oh, did I mention it's an Irish pub? Redheads for the win! read more

Cards against humanity played with an emcee. Plenty of beers and whiskeys. Friendly servers and a crowd that enjoys laughing. Food seems pretty good. It's a short walk from the ball park. A few TV'S and pretty fun for an Irish style dive bar. read more

My friends and I have been here in the past and we came back for Karaoke. They didn't have karaoke this time and had half the space covered up. We had so much fun at karaoke the first time we came back for more. We were very disappointed they didn't have karaoke. The bartenders were badass!!! The shady silver insulation blocking off half of the place was weird. read more

Scruffy Murphy's was Initially established by an Irishman from County Meath who wanted to recreate the authentic Irish pub experience in downtown Denver. Although the look and feel of the place is important, the people are what truly make an Irish pub what it is: a warm and inviting place to meet friends, family and colleagues for a proper pint and great conversation. Today, Scruffy's continues it's initial mission through it's new Irish and Irish American owners.

As far as English/Irish food goes this the only serious contender in the area, i haven't found another UK restaurant that quite mimics the pub atmosphere as well as this one. In my younger days I would toss back a couple bloody Mary's but times change and now I mostly get Corvus Cold Brew, both drinks are solid choices. If you haven't been here you need to visit. The burger was cooked to perfection, and the fish and chips, as always, were amazing. I hope that next time, the service is better and quicker. Hopefully, this was just a one-off blunder and not a sign of things to come.

Avery was our server and it was her first day, which you wouldn't have guessed. Carl and Mark also made the experience feel smooth and welcoming. For dessert, the Lisbon chocolate cake and Turkish kunefe were both great. The Basque cheesecake and lobster salad also stood out and had those memorable bites that stick with you. A few minutes later, I watched him seat two parties who had arrived after me. I then spoke with another hostess and told her I was happy to sit anywhere except the couch. She even said she didn't know why I had been skipped. She went to ask the host, and when she came back she confirmed that he had intentionally skipped me. I also overheard him make an inappropriate comment after she questioned him about it. While I couldn't hear every word, it was obvious from the interaction that he had deliberately passed me over because I declined the original seating option. There is a huge difference between politely declining one specific seat and giving up your place in line. The host's attitude was rude, unprofessional, and completely unnecessary. The other hostess handled the situation professionally and was kind, but this host's behavior left an incredibly poor impression. I hope management addresses how guests are treated, because no customer should be spoken about or treated that way. To add to this- I absolutely love the food here, however this is not appropriate customer service
