THE FOOD was just wonderful. It was fresh, hot and abundant. THE STAFF was delightful...ready to help with absolutely everything we needed. CHEF DAVID was the icing on the cake. He was full of personality and moved table to table interacting with those in attendance. He truly spread Christmas joy. We have never had an experience like this (and we do at least 2-3 events a year). This was his 5th event for the day and they all seemed fresh and happy to be there. One week before Mother's Day, the beloved mother of my best friend died very unexpectedly at home in the Atlanta region. With Mother's Day on the horizon, the only way that my friends and I here in DC felt that we could bring some joy to the family while celebrating their mother was through food... and we decided to cater a meal for everyone on Mother's Day. I did some research, and picked up the phone and called Chef David Catering. A lovely woman named Lisa answered the phone. I took that as a good sign, as my name is Lisa as well. I explained the situation, and asked if they would be able to provide a meal for 12? She said that the typical minimum party order was 25 people, but that Chef David would make an exception based on this particular circumstance. I also was very well aware of how hard it is to source certain ingredients during this COVID-19 pandemic, so I told Lisa that I didn't even have a menu in mind, but could she please speak with Chef David to see what he'd be willing and able to prepare? The next day, Lisa sent me a menu of: - Pan Seared Chicken with Gravy - Baked Salmon in Lemon Dill Sauce - Mixed Vegetables - Wild Rice with Cranberries and Almonds - Mixed Green Salad served with Ranch and Vinaigrette Dressings - Rolls and Butter - Strawberry Shortcake The menu sounded amazing, and I approved it immediately. This afternoon (Mother's Day), Lisa called me to say that Chef David was already on his way to the family's house, and gave me details about the beautiful Strawberry Shortcake cake to share with the family. Chef David arrived at the exact time he promised, and told the family that he'd even made an extra pan of mashed potatoes for everyone to enjoy. A couple of hours later, I heard from my friend, expressing her sincere thanks for the DELICIOUS MEAL, that was above and beyond what her family had expected. It was enjoyed by everyone. Particular favorites were the Baked Salmon and the Wild Rice. There were still plenty of leftovers for them to enjoy over the coming days... but that the lovely cake was devoured by all! I saw a Facebook post stating that Sol Catering was offering free to go meals for healthcare…read moreworkers so I decided to stop by for a meal before heading to work yesterday. I was greeted immediately upon walking in, and I asked if I could pick up a meal for my sister as well who also works in the hospital. I was told yes without any hesitation, and he told me it wasn't even necessary to see my badge. I ordered one of each plate. For mine, I got the mojo pork quesadillas which comes with rice, beans, and sweet potato mash. Both meals come with chips, salsa, a drink, AND a roll of toilet paper. The quesadilla was amazing. Probably one of the best I've ever had. The pork was soft and juicy. There was plenty of cheese which I love. And it comes with an avocado sauce which was really good too, but the quesadilla already tastes amazing enough without it. I was truly amazed by how good the food was. But what amazed me more was how generous and kind he was. I was offered to take as many rolls of toilet paper as I wanted, drinks, and two free meals. I didn't have to wait long for my food, and when I asked if they'd accept tips, I was told no. I was told this was all donations. From what I saw from the Facebook post, they have been offering free food for a few days now. Such a kind and generous act during this time when businesses are struggling. All the sides were in containers the food was very hot and delicious they even provided plates, napkins and flatware. The best party was they had the Chafing holders to keep the food warm and provided the candles for that. It was great! Easy to set up the food for the guest and plenty of food. His menu is wonderfully diversified, his presentation is beautiful and the food scrumptious! Our most recent dinner was for a family birthday October of 2020 doing everything we could to be safe during Covid. Not only did he deliver to our home but individually packaged our charcuterie appetizers which were a huge hit and delicious! The beef stroganoff was out of this world and salad beautifully prepared! I highly recommend the homemade Balsamic Italian & the Ranch dressings too! Jim is delightful and blends in like another guest to the party! I highly recommend for a simple takeout meal or a party for 50!
