This place popped up in Google Maps when I was looking for things to do near me. It's a local rum distillery that offers tours and even has a rooftop bar! I was sold. The downstairs area was kind of packed around the bar. Every stool was occupied plus there was a guy group of like 15 so there wasn't a ton of space there. I ended up asking if the rooftop bar was open and aside from a small party of like 4 girls, we had the rooftop bar to ourselves. Service was good, since it wasn't busy at the upstairs bar. Loved the overall vibe of the place. Definitely worth a visit.
Cool experience at Scryer rum ! The distillery is nice with a lot of wood accent and aging barrels. The bar has a great selection of scotch and bourbon. We ordered the flight and got to taste their rum along with an aged scotch and bourbon. My only wish is that they had a better selection of their rums. It was delicious and it kept me wanting to try more expressions of the Juice !
Every so often, you run into a cocktail bar that you want to come back to over and over. Scryer Rum is just that. I arrived about 30 minutes before closing, but despite getting ready to close early, the bartender offered to make me one drink, which I really appreciated. He gave me an excellent description of the rum and what went into the cocktail, and then spent some time talking to me about the distillery. Despite having a long day, he took the time to provide excellent customer service, which is a mark of a great business. The drink itself was awesome. I had their version of an "old fashioned," but with rum. Rum old fashioneds, in my experience, are really difficult to make well, but Scryer makes a great one. It was actually pretty close to a real (bourbon) old fashioned in its notes and spirit-forward nature, but you could also definitely tell it had rum and not bourbon. It was also really smooth, and had just the right amount of smoke (many places really overdo the smoke). Surprisingly, two people came in, looked at the menu, and left while I was enjoying my drink. I don't understand this at all. Yes, you will spend about $15 on your cocktail here (and there are no shortage of cheap cocktail bars around), but the experience and the drink quality are totally worth it. That $5 pina colada down the street is going to be mostly sugar and ice...do yourself a favor and enjoy a quality drink and amazing experience here instead!
Excellent local bar that also serves a boutique small volume house rum that they distill themselves. I consider myself amongst other things a bit of a rum afficinado and this house rum is quite tasty and stands up well to the well lnown big boys in this industry. Additionally the story of the young man who co-owns this business and is the master distiller is quite compelling where he went from a Aeronautical Engineering degree in the US, to learning the Whiskey tradecraft in Scotland, to mastering rum making in Puerto Rico. Definitely a a bit of the American Dream story here in the making. Relative to the business/bar it has a bit of a cool factor where the environment is dark and inviting with a small rum barrel room integrated into the bar adding a very nice and inviting visual element. The small staff which includes the owners are super friendly and provide a great backdrop as they tell their personal stories and the story behind the house rum and their plans to expand the business. Overall a great experince on many fronts that should not be missed if you are in the downtown San Juan area. Highly recommend!
For our trip to San Juan, my wife had a very short food and drink bucket list. "Say what you mean to say!" (IYKYK). Her list included a Pina Colada Mocktail. As we were casually walking, I spotted Scryer Rum, which looked very cool from the outside. I said "I think that's the place!" I looked at my Yelp bookmarks, and sure enough, I had bookmarked Scryer as a highly rated cocktail bar and distillery. I walked inside. Awesome gothic vibes. I asked the super friendly bartender, but not so friendly as to lack cool bartender cred, if she could make a Pina Colada Mocktail to go. She obliged. And did it stylishly. And it tasted great. Probably even better with rum. 5 Stars
This rum distillery bar has a chill and rustic vibe with 3 different floors. On the first floor is where you order your drinks with a couple lounges and bar seats. Next floor up is an intimate, dark, and sexy cigar lounge that's blacked out with velvet couches. Then we have the rooftop terrace where most people smoking a cigar are hanging out at. We had two rounds of cocktails each: Scryerac, Claude & Sherry, La Colada, and C.R.E.A.M. All cocktails were nicely done and tasted great! Also loving the vibes that has a bit of everything depending on which level you are. It's also perfectly located in the heart of Old San Juan.
It looks small but there's 3 levels, one of which is a rooftop! It was pouring rain so that area was closed but the main floor was quiet with just a few people at the bar. We got our drinks and they were quite tasty! La Colada was my favorite, so many pins colada version on the island. I also enjoyed the brûlée'd banana which helped sweeten the drink just enough. It was a cool, chill place to hang out while the rain cleared up.
When faced with the decision to go to Casa Bacardi or a local rum distillery the choice was obvious. Why pay the hefty price tag for alcohol samples I can get back home when I can try cool cocktails at a local distillery on a pretty rooftop/lounge? So as a short stop before dinner, my partner and I ordered one drink each. The bartender was nice and crafted us some beautiful cocktails for us to bring to the rooftop. Since we came for pre-dinner drinks, the bar, upstairs lounge, and rooftop were empty and we were able to enjoy the place to ourselves. The Classy Lassie drink was a balanced sweet, tart, and fruity mixture and the Spanish Harlem was a unique concoction of smoky banana goodness. If it weren't for our dinner reservations and if we had more time in Puerto Rico, we probably would've came back to try more cocktails because the cocktails here are a hit.
This is a great little stop to make when in Old San Juan. I'm Not going to say it's off the tourist streets, because every street in Old San Juan is packed with tourists depending on the time of year and how many cruise ships are tied to them pier, but this place is far more relaxed than most of the other bars that we stopped at. The cocktail menu is well composed with subtle twists in classics as well as some unique cocktails of their own. The majority of their drinks use local Puerto Rican rums which really makes this a great stop. The staff was super friendly and happy to answer any questions that you might have. The ambiance is very laid back. The place is dark and a little small, but it also seemed like they had more seating available upstairs if the occasion called for it. Definitely make this stop if you are at all into craft cocktails or rum in general.

This place was amazing--the drinks, food, atmosphere, and people were the best. Walking in, I felt major speak easy vibes--there's at least three floors with one being the rooftop outside. Sit at the rooftop if you can --the floral and tropical vibe there is beautiful. We came on a Sunday so it wasn't as busy but I assume it's usually pretty busy on the weekends. I had their dark and stormy and their paper plane and loved both. The shrimp pincho, ceviche, wedges, and mahi tacos were all fantastic. Their pasta dish also came highly recommended so hoping we can save that for another day! read more

We had the best bartender! Everyone in our party loved their drinks. I told the bartender I didn't drink and he offered to make me a mocktail that was very good! I always appreciate a bar that is willing to come up with something for those who don't drink(that isn't just a coke or something!) They put A LOT of care into their craft cocktails . They were all beautiful and had special touches like aromatic sprays or smoked glasses. Highly recommend! read more

The rooftop bar offers shade or sun, depending on what you prefer. Service was quick and efficient on the rooftop. The cocktail I chose was the Classy Lassie. It is exactly as described, a bit of a rum sour. And it looked pretty. Price was reasonable. read more

We popped into this bar for one drink and stayed for about four!! It's that good here. Scryer is a family owned single barrel distilled rum. Delicious. They craft the most decadent beautiful cocktails here, of which I had the pleasure of tasting many. The decor is ornate, dark and elegantly finished. The service is top notch with very friendly skilled bar staff. We didn't sample any food, we just sat at the bar and enjoyed the San Juan vibe and it's lovely people. Do not miss. read more

We absolutely loved Scryer Rum! This was the first stop on our Old San Juan Rum Tour, and we ended up coming straight back here after the tour was over. The owner Garrett was extremely welcoming (and very attractive), and came to check on our group a few times. Scryer Rum has three floors of seating, including a cute rooftop patio, where they project black and white films. The second floor has very comfortable seating for a large group. For drinks, I loved the Dark & Stormy and the Sassy Lassie. The food was also delicious, especially the chicken tacos (3 per order), fried queso (so good, reminded me of halloumi), and fries (perfectly seasoned!). The staff was also wonderful and gave us lots of recommendations for Old San Juan. One of our favorites of this trip! read more

So I came here because Yelp has it connected with the search "rum tasting". I feel this is incorrect, and I tell you why. I imagined a place where I could sample different rums. This place only have one rum, the house rum Scryer. They only have one version and I wouldn't call it a sipper since its overproofed but it is local and that I do love. I feel that they might have a tasting experience that I was after, but I didn't have access to it nor do I really understand how with just one product. BUT, I feel the bar is beautiful and small enough to be quite exlusive and elegant. The drinks are modern fancy and decent. Quite pricey though, like US prices. I still give it a 4 despite not having what I wanted, and only having one rum. read more

Scryer Rum, a small batch distillery that has been on the island since 2015, has its tasting room and bar in Old San Juan. This beautiful rum, finished in both port and sherry barrels, has tasting notes of raisin, butterscotch, brûléed bananas and vanilla. Absolutely worth a visit when in San Juan, as this rum is only sold here. The cocktail program features many unique rum based cocktails, such as the PORTMANTEAU: * Scryer Rum * Rubv Port Wine * Cocchi di Torino * Angostura Bitters Ambiance is exactly what you would expect from Old San Juan, and there is a rooftop bar as well. read more

Highly recommend this place for a tour- if you can't get in for a tour, call. If you still can't get in, go to drink a carefully curated cocktail and enjoy the interior (the downstairs is dark and cozy with leather couches and a bar while the rooftop patio boats light and great breezes) We were lucky enough to snag a tour ($15). It was intimate with only 6 guests and an owner. We were told the elaborate story of the rum- from all the research in Scotland and Ireland to the start up experience and impacts of the pandemic. Appreciate the highlight on trying to support the island and be as environmental as possible. He also went into detail about the three stages of rum- the finished product and then the barrel aged and sherry. We got to try them as we learned. Loved that. All were incredibly smooth and distinct in flavor. It was awesome and well planned- felt like we were truly experiencing an adventure together. Well organized yet open for questions and experiential learning too. One bit of feedback- when you give a tour, be careful of saying things "When he settles down for his night cap of whiskey, we want him to reach for a bit of rum from time to time." Women (like myself) like whiskey and rum too. And maybe we have been to Ireland and Scotland and know a lot about it as well. ;) This experience and product should be for all. First impression walking in is "oh my gosh this place is COOL!!" The service is impeccable, the drinks are EVEN BETTER!!! Of course with this being a rum house, I got the La Colada. 10/10 recommend! Made with their own rum, made in house, they have their own spin on a classic! The roof top is perfect for a chill area to hang out with friends for a good drink! read more

Scryer Rum is the perfect place to enjoy after dinner cocktails or a stop on your tour around Old San Juan. The drinks are strong and refreshing and the rum they make is incredible (more like a Whiskey and not too sweet.) I'd recommend grabbing a bite to eat there too. It's steps above bar food. Chicken tacos, veggie noodles, fries, stuffed oysters, SO GOOD. One of the best rooftops I've found!! read more

Wow, the rum was delicious! It's true - it's not a tasting room. However, the owner/bartender gave us each a free taste of their one and only rum. Then we ordered full glasses of rum over ice, sat at one of their tables and enjoyed the vibe inside, and looked out at the street. I imagine it'd fun to go to at night for cocktails and talking and people-watching. For us, it was more about supporting a small business than anything else. Unfortunately we couldn't buy a bottle to bring back home but we'll remember to return for next time. It's these smaller, more intimate and personal experiences that I liked the most while in Puerto Rico. read more

I think this may be my favorite place in San Juan Puerto Rico so far. My husband and I came across this place online with great reviews and we were not disappointed . This eclectic rum and whiskey cocktail bar is a lovely neighborhood gem. Apparently the founders have family from here and decided to come back and start a whiskey business on the island. They must have a gift for fine spirits and craft cocktails because this establishment certainly worth the visit. We were greeted promptly and warmly by the staff and found a spot on a comfy leather couch in the front near the bar where we were served a whiskey rum flight and a cocktail and mocktail (I told them I'm pregnant and they fixed me up a dark and stormy mocktail! Delicious!) I also sauntered upstairs and was pleasantly surprised by the various seating options available from the Moroccan style cigar lounge to the open air lush roof patios. Kudos to the designers-- you could tell a lot of thought and detail was put into creating a welcoming and unique space for visitors and locals alike to enjoy over a fresh hand crafted, island made drink. Love it. Ten thumbs up! Highly recommend dropping in. Thanks Scryer team for the best experience we've had So far in paradise! Totally makes our vacation! read more

I had the pleasure of stopping by Screyer a couple times on my most recent trip to Puerto Rico. It's a fairly new spot, but they are off to a strong start! Covid stuff: They, like most businesses I've encountered here, are being really safe about Covid. Masks required for entry. Temperature checks and hand sanitizer at the door. You can take masks off to eat/drink. Menu can be accessed by scanning a QR code. Space: I really like the way the space is laid out. They have the bar, (very comfortable) couches, and a few high top chairs on the first floor. There is additional seating on the second and third (rooftop) floors. The decor is classy without being pretentious. Service: the service is fantastic. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and took good care of us. My first visit was with three friends, and my second visit with one. Each time the bartenders were quick, responsive, and answered any questions we had. Allana is the best! She took great care of us. Drinks(!): Screyer is a rum distillery, so you have to try their rum based cocktails. I tried the Claude and Sherry, and the Screyerac. My friends tried the Classy Lassie, Dark and Stormy, and Floridita Daquiri. The drinks were very well made, the flavors were balanced, and the ingredients were fresh. Didn't try any of the food as we had just finished dinner both nights, but I will do so next time. Definitely a great spot to visit! I'll be back next time I'm in town. read more
