Stumbled upon this store while waiting to be seated at Crab Town. My mom switches out her wigs every few years and it's time to get new ones. They have so many options and quality from synthetic to real human hair. There were also two salon chairs because some wigs can tolerate heat to style. I went there yesterday not sure what exactly I was looking for. Belinda and Hean were both there and neither one were being pushy but rather very helpful. They asked me what I "might be" looking for and they came up with some suggestions. I saw a topper I liked. It was great, human hair but obliviously very expensive. They saw how much I liked it but did not push it on me at all. Instead they brought a couple of like toppers that were just as amazing as the human hair one. I bought and was never happier with a hair-product purchase. I definitely recommend this place. read more

I'm sharing this experience so other families can be cautious, especially when elderly or vulnerable individuals are involved. My elderly family member, who has cognitive decline, went into SD Beauty Lab requesting only a haircut. During the visit, she was instead sold an expensive wig. The interaction was handled by Sunny, who led the sales conversation and encouraged the purchase. Shortly after, we realized what had happened and immediately requested to return the item. The wig has never been used and remains in its original packaging. Despite this, Sunny refused the return and stated it was "against the law," which does not match the written return policy on the business website for unused items within 30 days. We found the refusal especially concerning given the customer's cognitive condition and vulnerability. We expected the written policy to be honored, particularly under these circumstances, but that was not our experience. Based on what happened, we would advise families to be very cautious and closely supervise transactions involving elderly individuals at this business. read more

I have been here twice and both experiences were great. The first time I came here was right after I received a breast cancer diagnosis, and SD Beauty Labs was on the recommended list by Sharp Hospital. The staff was very patient and understanding, and helped me with trying on multiple wigs. The lady recommended several different wigs based on my style. I purchased real human hair wigs both times; the wigs with real hair do seem pretty pricey, but I think that's to be expected (I haven't visited any other wig shops in San Diego) so I don't have a direct comparison. However, they gave me decent discounts both times which was nice. I also got both wigs trimmed after purchasing (trimming is around $30 I think) and they did a good job styling the wigs. I'm so upset I used to come to this location when I first started wearing tape in exstentions. I came in last weekend to see what there prices were the owner told me she had appts tue thru Friday well like everyone else I work Monday thru Friday Gn 8:30-5:30 this place closes at 5 . So I called during the week and explained my situation the women that I spoke to on the phone said she could see me on sat at noon . So during the week I also tried to make it easier by taking out all my extensions. Anyone using extensions knows how I must have felt when they told me they didn't see my name in their appt book . When I asked to speak to the owner the women was very dismissive and said she wasn't there she couldn't give me her number blah blah blah. I asked her now what am I supposed to do she said I could wait until next week. I told her I would be leaving a review and contacting the owner on Monday. I'm so upset I could cry. Ladies do yourself a favor and look for another place the owner is wonderful but her employees lack proper etiquette when it comes to CUSTOMER SERVICE or taking accountability for their mistakes. read more

I have been looking for a good hairstylist for years and I finally found one. I'm actually hesitant to share her identity on Yelp...b/c truth is, she is a superhero. Okay, maybe not, but she definitely possesses magical powers to be able to tame my unruly mane. Her name is Tiffany and she has now become my go-to hair guru! I don't know what I'd do without her! I was recommended to her by my cousin's friend, and I am so happy I gave her a try last year! I've been back about three times since, and even brought my mother (who is also a happy customer)! Sadly, I was never blessed with the sterotypical, frizz-free, sleek & shiny "Asian" hair. My hair is thick, naturally curly, and always frizzy! I mean, seriously, how is this possible? I'm Chinese, for goodness' sakes! Anyway, I've fallen victim to some salons in the past who took 15 minutes just to comb my hair by yanking a comb through it forcefully, talked waaaay too much, let my hair "air-dry" (which is a no-no for me sans any product), or almost burned my skin w/ the flat iron! As you can tell, I've definitely had my fair share of bad experiences, so I was not expecting a lot when I came here. Tiffany is an angel sent from Hair Heaven, I tell you. Here are the reasons why I adore her: 1. She puts on a nice big robe on you that ties at the waist, making sure no water/pieces of hair will end up in your shirt. 2. She is really considerate when it comes to the temp of the water when she washes your hair, and she doesn't pull your hair. She's gentle and massages the products in. The chair is comfy, and your neck doesn't ache from the usual ill-positioned sinks. 3. She is friendly & always happy to answer any questions you have. She doesn't push any products onto you, or pressure you to make an appointment for the next cut or to do a special treatment. She listens to what you want to do with your hair and never judges you! 4. She wears a blinged out Hello Kitty apron! So legit. For $45 ($40 for shorter hair), I got a shampoo, cut & blowdry/style and I definitely recommend Tiffany, the Hair Goddess! My hair is shiny, soft, layered & really thinned out. She did a fantastic job of dealing with my thick tresses, which is quite the achievement. If it's your first time, I suggest bringing a photo or two to show her the kind of style you want. My mother got a perm done around the holidays last year and usually, her hair doesn't hold any curl, but because of Tiffany's magic, my mother's hair is still as curly as the first day she got it done, and that was over 2 months ago! They also sell a huge assortment of high quality wigs and extensions here as well, so that's also a plus if that's what you're looking for! read more

I've been here a few times now and they are super nice, helpful, knowledgeable and patient. They have one of the largest inventories I've seen in SD and the store is kept neat. Parking is pretty good too. We didn't have a clue what to get and they were super patient and allowed multiple try ons. Some items were very pricy but it seems in line with other local stores - it's quality material and you get what you pay for. They were very nice when we said we were sticker shocked, so they asked us what's our price range and without judgement they showed us what could work. They even do customizations/additions to pieces and were very up front with how much additions would cost. We found something we liked and when we said we would go have lunch to think it over they were still nice about our indecisiveness. They did the customization on the spot and it didn't take long. We are coloring the piece ourselves so they gave us advice and said we can return for them to help cut it and style it for free. Absolutely superb customer service - although we were the only customer haha (Friday afternoon). We've only been to a couple stores and this was our first purchase so I'm not experienced in this area but from our experience so far, definitely recommend. We'll be coming back for styling and if that or the use of the hair makes me change my review I'll update it. read more

NEVER GO HERE I am a reasonable person but finding a wig when you have a cancer diagnosis is not only an emotional but uncomfortable experience for someone. I took my friend who has acute myeloid leukemia to find a wig and he was very uncomfortable. The man who helped us was be only employee there and had a cold, rude, disrespectful, and judgmental demeanor and that's EXACTLY how he treated us. The only thing he offered was a hair sock for him to try on the wig and basically set us free.....uh we had no clue what we were doing and the male selection of wigs was pathetic and overpriced....$900 for a crappy wig is ridiculous I don't care if it's real hair. I was protective of my friend and upset how uncomfortable/tense the environment was for myself AND MY friend. He processed to continue assisting other women and never checked in on us when we clearly had no clue what we were doing. Better work on your customer service and not prejudge your customers. read more
