I didn't know this till I started my research, but the title of nutritionist isn't regulated. Pretty much anyone can call themselves one, no matter their qualifications or lack thereof. In contrast, a dietitian is required to have a degree and clinical experience. As an extra precaution, I wanted to find an expert who would be knowledgeable in recognizing and addressing any signs of disordered eating. I spoke to several dietitians, but I liked Heather's warm, open-hearted, and client-centered approach. She is a very kind and empathetic listener, and I like that she is able to guide me to new ways of thinking Socratically, rather than just telling me what to do. I think about how much happier and healthier our society would be if Heather's no-diet, all-foods-fit approach were required in public school health class curriculums. I feel like I now understand much better what my body is telling me and can recognize nutrition misinformation for what it is when society around me still thinks of it as fact. Did I lose weight? Yes. I think so, anyway. Heather guided my understanding till I learned to look for more accurate markers of health than the number on a scale, so I stopped weighing myself. But I can tell I probably have by the way my clothes are fitting differently. But more importantly, I feel better and am healthier, both physically and mentally, and this feels like a permanent, sustainable change.

I am also a healthcare professional and cannot cancel my client's appointment for my own. Naria assures me that I should have gotten notifications of the time, so the mistake is not her fault and that I would have to pay the $60 cancellation fee. I tell her that I did not schedule the appointment for that time and she says that since it's too late to find another client that it is my responsibility to pay. After a few more messages, she agrees to cancel the appointment. To date, I have not received a meal plan or additional advice outside of basic nutrition advice. I wouldn't book with her if you are looking for a nutritionist that is accountable for her mistakes.
