She was adept at it and so we were looking for after-school and weekend enrichment classes to supplement her learning. ThoughtStem was one of the first companies to offer coding classes to young students in San Diego. My daughter started taking classes from them on Sundays at UCSD; it was a fun self-paced program with college students guiding them if needed. My daughter also took other classes from them that were offered through her school district's after-school enrichment program. Since then, my daughter has continued to pursue studies in AP computer science, engineering, and robotics. She is even volunteering to help other young students learn to code! He tends to scoff at kid activities and used to beg not to attend other classes, but week after week he's asked to go to Toddler Time. In fact, he asks to go to class when it's not our day for class. We've been going for about 6ish months and it's a bright spot of our week. I'm not sure what we will do when he ages out because he's going to be devastated. But here's the real hack, we recently had Toddler Time come to my son's birthday party and it was the best part of the day. We had kids from age 1 to age 8 and they were all captivated by the activities! It gave the parents time to talk, actually chew our food, and enjoy ourselves. It was incredible. I'm still riding the high from actually being able to sit down and eat my meal in peace while my child happily played nearby. It was worth every penny and more! It feels important to add that Ally made the planning and coordination SO easy. She really knocks it out of the park, every time.

The program at Nightingale has been running for over 20 years, and Jennifer has it dialed to perfection. Each 8-week session has its own theme ("Hooray for the Holidays"; "Mother Goose Rock & Rhyme"; "Wonderful World of Music" to name a few) and its own theme-related songs, but the rhythm of the classes is consistent from week to week and session to session, providing an ideal environment for this tender age whose brains thrive on routine. The school also has an incredibly generous makeup policy to allow for any planned family vacations or unplanned family illnesses, and visiting family members and friends are always welcomed to watch or participate in class. My daughter attended her first Nightingale Music session when she was just 7 months old, and has been consistently enrolled since she was about 14 months. Now at two and a half, she can sing her solfege scale on pitch, and understands the fundamentals of rhythm, tempo, and dynamics.
