Nightingale Music is a play-based, child-focused early music education series, whose quality and consistency are unmatched in San Diego County. The classes are held in a colorful, carpeted studio and led by warm and welcoming teachers, many of whom have some form of early education training or experience teaching or working with children in their fulltime jobs. The program at Nightingale has been running for over 20 years, and Jennifer has it dialed to perfection. Each 8-week session has its own theme ("Hooray for the Holidays"; "Mother Goose Rock & Rhyme"; "Wonderful World of Music" to name a few) and its own theme-related songs, but the rhythm of the classes is consistent from week to week and session to session, providing an ideal environment for this tender age whose brains thrive on routine. The school also has an incredibly generous makeup policy to allow for any planned family vacations or unplanned family illnesses, and visiting family members and friends are always welcomed to watch or participate in class. My daughter attended her first Nightingale Music session when she was just 7 months old, and has been consistently enrolled since she was about 14 months. Now at two and a half, she can sing her solfege scale on pitch, and understands the fundamentals of rhythm, tempo, and dynamics. She stops and dances whenever we hear music out in the world (or asks me to play music on my phone so she can dance in our backyard), and sings constantly. She's made friends with some of the other kids in her cohort, imprinted onto a few of her teachers, and Jennifer has made us feel like part of a larger Nightingale family from the very start. As a 70% SAHM, I've tried out a lot of Mommy-and-Me type classes around San Diego, but Nightingale is the one that we've stuck with, and the one that I would most recommend. read more

The highlight of our week going to our Nightingale music class. We took classes at the park, outdoors and we always have laughs and smiles, running, bubbles, singing and just so much fun. It's fun for the babies/ toddlers/ kids and also for the parents/ caregivers. Met lovely people too. Yep our happy little campers and family are still continuing our music enrichment class and still love all the teachers and the owner Ms. Jennifer is just such a warm hearted soul with nothing but kindness and acceptance. Our family just loves it here and we have had the honor of growing and making friends along the way. It's a no shoes policy only socks for adults...littles can be barefoot. Potty is in the back room with changing table. They are a clean environment, wipe downs constantly for that reassurance for infection control. Great experience and community. Second season (semester) with our toddler (2 years old now, 16 months when she first joined). Our daughter is shy, but she's coming around. At this age, it's a combination of group play and music. With parents beside them and teachers leading the way, we work on keeping the beat, singing songs, trying to banging on individual drums and keep rhythm, strumming ukuleles (maybe mini guitars? I'm not sure), singing, and some group play activities. Great community, nice people, great staff. More than enough room for two caregivers to come and sit next to a child, but there's also seats in the back for those who want to observe. Pro-tips: - This is Bird Rock. Right next to Bird Rock Roasters, so make sure to allocate a bit of time for street parking. - Adults need to be shoe free in the kids area (which is carpeted). They'll sell you socks if you don't come wearing some. read more

Our son got these classes as a birthday gift from his funcle last year, and as soon as he was big enough to partake in them Covid hit. They recently started offering outdoor sessions and it's been a really amazing experience. One of my biggest worries in these times is that my son is not getting the interaction with other people that he needs at 13 months. Nightingale is the perfect balance of socialization while still staying safe. Instructors wear face shields, they do their best to socially distance everyone and if that's already not hard enough with toddlers, they actually make it fun for them at the same time. This is a review for the Sensory Play Class in the Park with Ms. Yuru. We love it so much that we have done 3 sessions in a row! My daughter is now 21 months old. It is outdoors in a beautiful park. These music classes are one of the best experiences I've had with my children. We came back with my second after a long gap, this time outdoors, in the park. It has been absolutely splendid. The teacher, Miss Savannah is amazing. Lots of energy and fun. The owner, Jennifer provides the best customer care. I highly recommend the music classes. It was one of the first classes we took after opening up (COVID) and we felt safe the whole time. Followed all the health and safety protocols. My son has been taking drum lessons here and it has been amazing seeing him progress. What started as fun has turned into so much more as he has been able to be a part of his schools variety show and so much more. The teachers at Nightingale Music are amazing. Nicki the drum teacher is a real pro that has a real method to her teaching who has started with the very basics to very difficult methods. Because the teachers are so good, my son even found a guitarist from the guitar teacher at Nightingale and now they jam together. No need to go anywhere else. read more

PAR-TAY!!! My daughter was invited to a 4-year old birthday party at Nightingale Music School in the Bird Rock area of La Jolla. Luv'd it. Most importantly, though, all the kids loved it! The kids (ages 3-5) were entertained every step of the way with musical instruments, bubbles, parachute, songs, and dance! The lead instructor had the most angelic voice and sang for almost the entire hour-and-a-half. She was incredibly organized and lead the kids in the activities effortlessly. I'm sorry I cannot remember the instructor's name but I can say she looked a lot like Reese Witherspoon in Sweet Home Alabama (not so much - Legally Blonde)! The accompanying music was perfect volume and let us parents converse on the sidelines (without disturbing the par-tay). "How cute." "How sweet." "How adorable." There are two rooms, one is spacious with ample seating around the perimeter. This room is decorated with cute 'around the world' theme and music, of course! The other, in the back, is set-up for cake and refreshments with a long, miniature table with accompanying short chairs for the kids. Overall, the party was perfectly balanced with activity in just the perfect length of time. The location is very nice. The studio is incredibly clean and organized. The instructor was delightful. I highly recommend Nightingale Music School for a children's party - especially if you appreciate when other people organize the kids activities AND if you don't want your house to look like a tornado blew through it!!! read more

We have been coming to class since July of this year, and my son absolutely ADORES his time with Ms. Melanie and his friends in music class. The environment is so welcoming and sparkling clean, and I am so happy with how Ms. Jennifer runs and manages the programs. I really like the fact that there is a change in curriculum and a different theme for every session. This ensures that the kids are exposed to a variety of songs and concepts and it keeps things interesting for parents who listen to and sing along with the class each week. I'm not a massive 'reviewer' but am motivated to share how exceptional Nightingale Music School is. My son has been having a Nightingale after-school music class at his pre-school for 2 terms now, and loves it. The teacher seems very enthusiastic and affectionate with all the children. This last week we also sampled one of their holiday camps, and the kids just had a blast. The space is clean and bright, the instruments are plentiful and the staff are very kind. The little 'performances' that they set up after the class were darling, and I think do wonders to boost confidence in these children. We look forward to seeing the Summer Camp offerings! read more

I have brought my 2 year-old daughter here for three "semesters" of music class, and she loves it. She is very shy in class, but when I take her home, she sings all the songs and she clearly looks forward to going every week. I even find the songs helpful to sing myself, either just to entertain her or to get her out of the store / house. ("It's time to put the toys away / help me if you can." = works every time!) Miss Elise (her teacher) has done a great job, as has Jennifer, the owner, with the overall operation of the place. Mila has always loved music like her daddy, but now she is able to learn its vocabulary in a friendly, safe environment with other kids her age. Highly recommended. read more

This place is really cool . My daughter is 2 and she's been coming here once a week for a few months now. My wife mostly brings her but I've been to a few with them. The teachers are wonderful . Miss Melanie and Miss Candice are the best teachers ever! They know how to connect with the children and how to keep the class entertaining for all. My son is really learning musical skills at 18 months and social skills by working with his peers. We look forward to going to music every week. My son's birthday is in January and not wanting to risk a park birthday being cancelled because of weather we were looking around trying to find somewhere fun and reasonably priced. Nightingale was so easy to work with and they provided balloons and paper goods, a huge bonus for an exhausted parent. We had a big age range of kids (6 months to 8 years) and they all had so much fun. We'd definitely do it again. read more

Went to a 1-year-old's birthday party and it was way more off the hook than I anticipated. What a great place! I couldn't stop laughing, watching the adults play with tiny drums and scarves while their babies stared at them. The highlight of the day was probably when the happy parents strapped little velcro bells all over their children, laughing with joy everytime their little ones moved and made some "music." What a hoot! Although their was no stripper in the cake at this birthday party, and felt a bit out of place being one of the few childless couples in the room, we still had a blast. The music school is clean, bright, and well stocked with toys and instruments, and the staff seems pleasant enough and happy as the kids are to be there. I'm not sure how much lessons/day-care costs, but seems like a great set-up! read more

We tried out a lot of music classes around town, but this was our favorite. Good price, flexible re-scheduling ( a MUST with unpredictable toddlers!), and the actual classes have a great flow- keeping the kids entertained , occupied, and learning for the whole time. We used to take our 7 and 5 year old there when they were babies now we we started taking our 16 month old daughter and she loves it! The music teachers are very good with kids. They have nothing but the best qualified music teachers. Highly recommend if you have baby-toddlers. It's so good for them. read more

I have been taking my son there every week since he was 1.5 years old, and now he's 3 and can sing so many songs. It's really good for language development as well as music sense/interest. I don't remember how I had heard of this school, but I am so glad that I called them for my son's third birthday party! It was a blind call since I never went to the school. They were incredibly professional and kind. Candice came out to our party location at a park in La Mesa and conducted a 45-minute music class with the kids. It was fantastic - she had the voice of an angle and the kids followed her every move. She brought out drums, her guitar, and instruments and gave the kids a complimentary take home favor at the end. Parents were asking me if Candice works at Disneyland! I highly recommend calling them for a toddler or preschooler's party. read more

I have been meaning to write this review for some time. I have been bringing my little guy for 10 months (since he was only 4 months old). We have done classes with both Ms. Nancy and Ms. Julie. Both are wonderful. My son loves it, it is a great way to expose them to music and meet other young families in the area. The 45 minutes classes have a great and structured "curriculum" is so much fun for them with lots of different toys and instruments. Perfect length for infants and toddlers. They are very flexible and work with you in scheduling so that, as crazy as things get with our little ones, this school is a fixture in our life. My son has LOVED this place since he was six months old. He got several different teachers, all of them very nice. Sessions last 8 weeks, and every week is a different experience. We found Nightingale Music via yelp so I thought I would leave an honest review about the school! My kids at the time were 1 & 3. We loved our time with Miss Candice!! She is truly gifted with the the kids and they loved her. She is structured, lovingly firm, and has a beautiful voice and smile!! We also liked the song selection and kid friendly facility. They allow you to make up classes throughout the week which is HUGE with kids getting sick, vacations, and balancing a busy schedule. For me the only downside was that in our class all kids were brought by Nanny's. Which is really not a problem, however often they would be on their phones, talking to one another and simply not as engaging. In the end my then 3 year old began getting bored in the classes after being there about a year. To my knowledge they do the same cycle once a year so we ended up not coming back after our 9 months there. However for the younger kids 1-3, they will LOVE it here! I just wish they had another level for ages 4/5ish that was not with the little ones. read more

This has been a staple in enriching my children with music for each baby I had/ will have. Ot our favorite part of the week. Jennifer, the owner, will help you find a perfect class for your child. Rosie is always there with a smile. We love Ms. Nancy's extra fun music classes. All the teachers there have beautiful voices and love children. They all seem to be professional vocalists and know how to play instruments. They do musical education, teach the kids about music vocab, how to play instruments, teach rhythm and the major scale, and it is all super fun and engaging. My kids love every minute and are never wondering what is coming next. Perfect from baby to preschool. There are also classes for older kids and more dance and art classes getting added to the schedule. Everything is great quality. I feel super lucky to have this in our area. Oh and they are awesome of you miss a class for any reason you can make up. So you never feel like you have to attend with a crabby kid if it just isnt gonna happen that day #momlife. read more

LOVE IT! I took 4 little ones here and the teachers were engaging, playful, creative and fun! They also involve the parents or in my case the nannies and create a fun filled hour that each week my little ones would get excited for!! Now in South Park...We love this class. My daughter dances and now sings to CDs from the class. Post knee surgery my mother-in-law was reluctant to take our lil one. They made accommodations for her and she felt totally included. It's always a great group of daddies, mommies, gma's, uncles, n care-givers. Everyone is nice. Miss Katy is our favorite teacher. Nightengale Music conveniently offers classes at Baby Garten on 30th, in South Park, which is fun to grab a snack or bite or shop. I've done many different types of classes with my toddler, but our favorite is the music classes with Nightingale. We go to the location at Baby Garten Studios in South Park. It's fun and lively, but is still focused around learning and music. It's really neat to introduce them to instruments so early, and it's a lot of fun to see the little ones remember the songs.
