We've been meaning to try this place because it's one of our favorite cuisines and it's not too far from the house. We're glad we went! The food was great; it even impressed my Peruvian husband who cooks this cuisine better than any restaurant. The place is popular and the prices are a bit better than other Peruvian restaurants. Honestly I don't understand the low ratings. What can I say about this place: huge portions, great food and unbelievable pricing. We came in for lunch and for $10 you get a huge bowl of soup, and then an entree (that comes with two sides). The "Trio Marino" was very well made. First of all, the ceviche was great, it didn't have too much or too little onion and the fish was very tender; The rice was also great with a good balance between all the different types of sea food in it. The fried calamari had a crispy exterior with a tender inside texture to it, and overall everything was very tasty. Other than taste, the portions were very generous, I barely finished half of everything before I was full. The service was a little slow at times and could have been better but they got the job done. OH MY STARS - returned to Sr. Rocoto recently and I can't get over how insanely delicious their Ceviche Pescado is! I have been running around Tampa once again to figure out the #1 Pervuian spot is and this place has dethroned Happy Fish because not only is it a couple bucks less, they give a heaping amount of Ceviche Pescado to leave me with leftovers whereas at Happy Fish I was close to paying $19 and left hungry. They make the Ceviche fresh and love how spicy their hot sauce is. They do take a shortcut by not giving you Cancha (crunchy corn), which I do miss a little, but they make it up with the insane amount of Ceviche you get for about $15. In the past, I also ordered Lomo Saltado. It's a good amount served as well. This is a mom/pop restaurant, so seating is cozy and limited just like the parking. We had the Leche de Tigre de Pescado, Arroz Chaufa con Marisco, and the Pescado Frito Entero con Arroz Yuca Frita y Sarza. All the plates tasted delicious. Food was substandard, expected better since they are somewhat using a famous los angeles Peruvian restaurant name of EL ROCOTO, I figured go try it since it was recommended by a Peruvian nurse I met in st pete, food was not even close the chaufa special, the chicken, and steak meat was overly cooked dry and too hard, this was at 2pm, not like it was cooked earlier and left stale, being middle of the day, however the pork chop plate dinner was good as was told by my other guest, check out was excessively long seems our waiter continued to overlook our service once he served us he never came back so I had to get up and order to go boxes and order dessert in which the checker thought we were taking it home I said no we want to eat it here, but your guy has not attended us like we were invisible , but now that we were also paying for our checkout now he shows up, he did then take the boxes to our table ......now ? ... ......this place seems to get busy but I've had better so if anyone does ever go to los angeles stop at the real ROCOTO same owner founder for them....one in certitos or a diff one EL POLLO INCA, top best in all of the country but in Los Angeles....El señor rocoto is a knock off, and not a do over.....there is another Peruvian place across from El señor rocoto, I will try next time, maybe same owner but maybe a diff cook over there.....but never again at this place...good luck read more

Fish was fresh and the sides are amazing. I can't speak to whether this is authentic Peruvian food, but I can say that I loved my meal. I came for lunch at noon on a Friday and it was pretty empty so service was quick. The dishes seemed to be priced between $13-$16 and you get a lot for that price. I got the Ceviche Mixto and tried the tostones, sweet plantains and yucca. Out of the sides, the yucca was my favorite. I'm used to tostones and yucca coming with a sauce, but neither did and to be honest, they didn't need them. They are large portions and they taste best fresh. I took home a bit of everything and although the yucca and sweet plantains were still pretty good, you definitely want to finish the tostones when they are fresh out of the fryer! The Ceviche Mixto was also very good. The fish was delicious and I felt really healthy eating it. The portion size was huge so I ended up eating it for dinner too. Sarah R. got the chicken fried rice and her plate looked like it could feed at least two and a half people. I tried the purple corn drink and it was really good. It is sweetened with other fruit. They only had one dessert and it was described as a flan bread pudding. I thought it had a great taste and it definitely satisfied my sweet tooth. Atmosphere is a bit hole in the wall. I LOVE Peruvian food! It's actually one of the top faves for me. So when my Peruvian friend told me this was her favorite in Tampa, I knew I had to check it out!! Back in the day, at least ten years ago, this location use to be El Mofongazo. It was pretty popular and I'd only been once because I'm never in the area. At this time, to my delight, I walk in, and everyone around me speaks Spanish. You know this is legit food, when everyone speaks Spanish here! It was pretty packed too but the wait wasn't bad at all. I didn't think much of this place at first, but we were quite satisfied. Their plates here are mountainous. So we ordered anticuchos which are beef heart. They are flavorful and the pieces were huge. Our entrees were the steak with pesto noodles and the fish with the yellow cream sauce. Everything we ordered was amazing and flavorful. The service at first was very shotty, but it got much better. Maybe the first guy was new but two other guys assisted us at our table as well and made it much better. This was a nice surprise and I would definitely be back. I ordered the mixed seafood ceviche, while the rest of the group also ordered seafood and a vegetarian fried rice. The portions here are extremely generous so great for sharing. I really loved the ceviche, it was loaded with seafood with just right amount of spice! We ended up sharing everything since there was so much food. Here are some of my faves: * ceviche de pescado (duh!) - traditional ceviche which is raw white fish marinated in lime juice and comes with choclo (large corn), sweet potato, and onions. I always order it spicy! * leche de tigre de pescado - ceviche on steroids, super savory appetizer with juicy ceviche and extra seasoning. Just fish and onions in the juice, no corn or sweet potato. 10/10 * lomo saltado - steak, onions, tomatoes, fries mixed and served with a side of white rice. A hidden gem! This has become my new favorite restaurant. Every single dish has been exquisite so far and I'm always super impressed. There are several appetizer options and my favorite so far are the Causa de Pollo and the Crema de Rocoto. Each offer a different taste but very tasty indeed. The lunch meals range between $13-$16, great big portions. I love their fried fish, it has been one of the best ones I've ate in a really long time. The crispness is perfect and the texture and taste of the fish is cooked to perfection. The Seco de carne is also a winner, the meat is marinated over night and you can definitely taste the difference. The Peruvian white beans are exactly as I remember when I was a kid, not to mention they also include the red onion salad that pairs very well with the dish. The restaurant has this cozy and authentic feeling of a local Peruvian eatery. Tables are nicely spaced and I was given a choice to pick a table. The service was splendid! The waiter gave a nice overview of the daily specials! I started with chicken Causa - a delicious appetizer made of nicely cooked chicken meat paste, pressed between two layers of potatoes! The temperature and the spices on both are greatly complementing each other and simply melted in my mouth with each bite. I also had to try one of the most famous Peruvian seafood appetizers - Choros a la Chalaca. Six large mussels covered with an out-of-the-world mixture of corn, red onions tomatoes and cilantro! If one is a fan of a salty and sour taste, along with the crunchy deliciousness of all raw tastes of those veggies, then you have to try this! My specials menu selection was Seco de Carne. A delicious beef stew, cooked and spiced to perfection! It was juicy and tender to chew and I enjoyed every single bite. It came with a side of well cooked beans, yummy steamed white rice and perfectly spiced (salty and sour) raw red onions. Lastly, I thought it can't get any better of an affordable, pleasant, and delicious meal experience when I ran into the Alfajor! Good Lomo Saltado. Service is ok. They don't give you a menu after you sit, which I found odd, after about 5-10 minutes I realized they didn't forget about it, you just have to go get your own menu (at the takeout counter) if you actually want to order food. Seems a very informal, relaxed atmosphere. We got the Yuca A la Huancaina for appetizer, which has large wedges of yuca, the sauce was supposedly spicy cheese sauce but it's very light and I thought barely noticeable, I didn't taste much at all. It would have been better with ketchup. Don't recommend the yuca. The loma saltado dish we shared between 2 people, it's a tasty dish with stirred fried beef, onions, tomatoes and soggy fries. The sauce sits at the bottom, make sure to mix it with the rice to add some taste. We came for a late lunch and the place was not croweded. We sit down and they come and 2 waiters asked what we wanted we asked for water with lemon. Water comes and lemons presented nice but warm water when I ask for ice he seemed bothered. So now we waiting for them to take our order and no one comes to us. They are in the front talking to the lady. Place is not packed and we just sitting there. After 10-13 minutes I just get up and leave. So let me guess this straight didn't want to service me because I'm not Peruvian or because your so rich you don't need customers. Don't come here and give them your money they don't appreciate it or think they better than you. I will be spreading the bad review on every platform I have. One of the worse in Tampa. The place was more on the smaller-med size on a plaza type of area. Aesthetics were more on the simple side from what I remember. I went around June when things were slightly opening up and I was having bad luck with restaurants due to all the changes with Covid. Only con was that there was a lot of calamari pieces compared to fish but overall good starter. My mom and sister also got the papa la huancaina and said it was good as well. Portions size were BIG & AWESOME, definitely get your money's worth! I ordered the Tallarine Verde and the tallarines had great flavor and the meat was also very flavorful that complimented the tallarines well. I had some of my sisters Arroz Chaufa and it had good flavor although it did taste like it had either too much ginger or sesame oil flavor. My mom ordered the Carapulcra and overall it was but she felt like it could of had more flavor and peanut into the sauce. So. Very mixed about stopping here. We were told by some friends that food was great and portion were good. The beef and rice was delicious. A bit lite on the beef, but fantastic none the less. Rice with a fried egg on top. Almost a stew of potatoes, vegetables and rice. The beef heart was, not so good. Didn't seem like it had been marinated log enough (going on how we have had it at other Peruvian restaurants). Drinks were in cans and bottles. Fine with that. Service was quick, but the main meals came out at different times. We had finished the GF's plate by the time I got mine. We share. Now then, if you're not Hispanic don't expect a warm welcome. They just looked up from polishing the flatware and went back to polishing. After a few minutes we seated ourselves.
