What a beautiful day out on the water. We started the morning with an incredible crew who quickly jumped into action when noticing a derelict net at the oceans surface. Crew member Grace was quick to notify the captain to slow the boat, and Josh used a long pole to retrieve the debris. The whole board cheered! At that moment I knew we were in good hands. Kona was experiencing high swells this week, but that was no challenge for Sea Paradise and Captain John. The sail was very comfortable on a double hauled catamaran, the boat even had with a large seating area through the middle that's shaded! Snorkel gear was provided, along with a demonstration on how to use it for beginners. The first snorkel locations had lots of fish (I SAW AN EEL!) As we boated over to the second location, a pod of SPINNER DOLPHINS joined us!! We sprawled out on the splash nets at the front of the boat to get up pretty close the the dolphins who loved playing in the boats wake. At the second location I choose to stay on board and enjoy the drink service. Crew members Kamaile and Myrissa were very friendly and tentative making sure our cup was filled. ** I highly recommend the spicy margaritas ** Lunch was served on the way back to the boat ramp, where a sandwich bar was prepared with a variety of meat and cheese options to choose from, (I combined tuna with turkey and pepper jack cheese with lettuce and cucumbers inside) It was delish. Many people learn from history books about captain cook, on this sail we were enlightened about the significance of Kealakekua Bay from the Native Hawaiian perspective. The Hawaiian culture is just so impressive. I highly recommend joining the sail to gain insight on how special the land and surrounding oceans are to Natives. Three of us did a half day snorkel trip on our recent journey to the big Island of Hawaii. We have been on numerous commercial snorkel trips, as well as privately guided snorkel trips. We have also been a numerous scuba dive boat trips. One of the ladies traveling in our group had never done a snorkel trip on Hawaii's big Island. The crew and boat were excellent. The crew communicated well, let us board on time and gave a good detailed safety briefing. They were very friendly and made the trip a lot of fun. Their catamaran, even though there were 45+ passengers, had plenty of room along with adequate storage. The boat gave a clean image and the lavatory to the joy of the ladies was pristine. We were served a nice fruit salad as we left the dock along with some pastries and muffins. Later, after our second snorkeling stop, we were served a deli style lunch that was excellent. All the sodas and sparkling waters you wanted were included along with a variety of chips and bagged cookies. While we brought our own snorkel gear, The boat was well organized in its distribution of gear and had lots of sizes and choices for either the beginner or experienced snorkeler. The crew was very helpful to the inexperienced and allowed those with obvious experience a little more leeway. They gave a good briefing at each of the two snorkel sites that we went to, and spent the exact amount of time snorkeling that they had indicated. While we saw lots of tropical reef fish of many different types, we weren't blown away by the experience. For a traveler who has not done a lot of snorkeling or never snorkel on the big island before this is certainly a good two exceptionally good operation and location to go snorkeling with. read more

We loved our boat and snorkeling tour with Captain Ro, Shannon, and Matt on a Sea Paradise catamaran. We were lucky to have a small group. The boat was very clean, the bathroom was the best I've had on a small boat trip. Our trip was a basic snorkeling: fruit, chips, non alcoholic drinks (alcoholic for purchase). We had a nice cruise over to Captain Cook monument to snorkel. While we did not see turtles, it was a really good snorkel. I've done many catamaran snorkels and this stood out for the steps/wider ladder easy into the water, snorkeling equipment including the fancy "noodles", and lastly, the quick rinse shower after getting out of the water. While I am experienced with snorkeling, this was for any level. There were people in our group new to it and Shannon explained and helped them. The bay was very calm and Matt was in the water as a lifeguard the entire time. The crew was fantastic. They did a brief history, informative but not too long. Great time with Captain Adrian, Beau and Denali! We did the morning snorkel to Captain Cook (Kealakekua Bay). We got really lucky and only 18 total guests so it was like we had a private charter. Lots of room to move around and time to talk to the crew. Parking - it's a tiny parking lot filled with early morning fisherman. If you arrive at 8:03am ... You may score a parking spot as the fisherman leave. We arrived before...like 7:45 and ended up just parking along the road like Sea Paradise suggested. Bathroom situation - there is a bathroom building near the parking lot...and there are 2 on the catamaran. Check in area - in the parking lot against the fence.... Facing the catamaran. Reef safe sunscreen - they provide this which is great! And it rubs in pretty smoothly too. No shoes - everyone removes their shoes prior to boarding and they put them in a big bin so wear easy slip ons or flip flops Boarding - they will help you if you are unsteady since the boat may be moving around as you board. Safety - they go over all the usual... Plus a couple basic hand signals to use when in the water. Equipment - they provide mask, snorkel, fins and flotation noodles ...and anti fog spray for the masks. Snorkeling - 2 locations. Easy on/off with their stair system. One where they have an anchor to tie to. Denali jumped in and hooked us up. And then she got out a paddle board and fins to float with us and keep an eye on everyone. In case anyone needed help, she was in the water with us. The 2nd location was Captain Cook. No anchor.... It's a sanctuary so.... Captain Adrian had to stay under power the whole time and maneuver the catamaran so it was always positioned so the stairs faced us snorkelers...and to avoid the other boats and people in the water. Quite an exercise. Beau was on the board in the water with us to keep an eye out and be there in case we needed his assistance. I didn't see any other tour guide in the water and there were several tour groups there. This level of service and how conscientious they were is the reason to book Sea Paradise. Food - included in the trip price. They make sure you have sustenance. Snorkeling is fun and makes you hungry. Ha! Breakfast was pastries, fruit, coffee, hot tea, soft drinks. Snacks were chips and cookies. Lunch included an assortment of cold cuts, cheese, tuna mix, hummus, veg, toss salad. After we were done snorkeling, the bar was opened for those looking for a beer or cocktail. A Real Cocktail. Not just canned drinks. Alcohol was extra $ of course. All soft drinks were included in the trip price. Ginger Candy! They had lots available and useful to help settle any queasiness. We got a bonus on this trip... We saw a manta ray when we were departing Captain Cook. We were back at the dock at 12:55... right on time. They laid out all our shoes on the dock. While vacationing in Hawaii we signed up for snorkeling. The boat took us out to a nice cove. It was a great idea to have a guided tour that told us facts and historical information along the way. The snorkeling equipment came with the price of admission. They are very "big" on conservation and preservation of the land, sea, and animals. For my large corporate event, I knew right away that Sea Paradise was the only company I wanted for our private charter. From my prior experience with them, their team was knowledgeable, friendly, and easy to work with. No surprise, they did it again. We chose the Morning Sail & Snorkel Tour, which runs longer (4.5 hours) and a bit pricier than the afternoon option (3 hours), but absolutely worth it, as it includes lunch and two snorkel locations. The catamaran they use, The Hoku Nui, can accommodate up to 49 guests, and children are welcome on board. Sea Paradise is my go-to because of the strong sense of safety they provide. They have multiple crew members in the water and others keeping watch from the boat to ensure guests are safe and stay within the swim boundaries. They recently switched over to eco-friendly flotation noodles, compared to the styrofoam noodles, which feels not only sustainable, but provides extra safety-- especially for first time or novice snorkelers. read more

They provide everything needed (sans swimsuits) - wet suits (night swim), snorkel gear, ginger chews if you're prone to sea sickness, food/ snacks/ beverages (day trips). The mantas all have "punny" nicknames and the crew know each of them by their unique looks. You are asked not to touch the mantas but they *will* swim close enough to you to brush up against you on each pass. Highly recommend arriving early as parking is very limited and you may likely need to park down the street and walk to the marina. Also, if doing a night excursion, you will want time to get fitted for a wet suit. I didn't include a lot of pictures of the marine life as I didn't want to prioritize picture taking over in-the-moment enjoyment so most of the pics are above water (I also don't have special underwater cameras, only took my phone inside a sealed waterproof bag so, not the best). We just got off the morning snorkeling trip and we had an amazing time. The entire crew was polite, professional and helpful in every way. They really made the trip fun and enjoyable. The boat was clean and well maintained with the cleanest bathrooms you will see on a charter boat. They had good snorkeling gear and the crew is right there ready to help you in any way you needed it to make sure you had a fun safe experience. Both the breakfast and lunch meals that come with the trip were delicious and beyond what I was expecting. The bartender can make some good drinks for the ride home when the snorkeling is done. One thing I did notice that Sea Paradise was doing that other boats around us weren't doing. Sea Paradise puts crew members on paddle boards as lifeguards in the areas that you are swimming. Ok, I'll be perfectly real. At first, I'm laid out in the open waters of the pacific, with a noodle under my feet, holding on to a raft with a light shining into the depths of the sea. I'm hanging out...the water was murky and visibility was limited... waiting.... Thinking I sure hope there's more. THEN, this shadow lurks below. Suddenly the shadow rolls and gives me the belly (like a dachshund begging for treats). OMG I thought my head was going to be sucked up in this huge mouth coming straight for my face! I could see down her throat, count all her gills, from the INSIDE! She all but gave me a hug and a kiss as she glided away into the depths just to disappear again. " Holy crap! What did I just see!" This happened over and over again. One of my top 5 experiences of my life. There were people screaming, puking, and heading for the hills (boat). I could have stayed for hours. We did the morning snorkel tour and was very pleased with our overall experience. The crew was friendly and welcoming. Our tour included a continental breakfast (fruits and pastries) which the crew passed out for us and a deli sandwich lunch bar with chips. Also, there's complimentary juice and soda. We ended up snorkeling at two spots (45 min each) one of them including Kealakekua bay which was amazing. This was an absolutely amazing experience. I thought we'd see one or two manta rays swim by a couple times.... It ended up being maybe half a dozen swimming right up to our faces over and over for almost and hour. Amazing!! The guides were super helpful. We all got dressed in wetsuits before getting on the boat. They gave us a safety briefing and then we went out. It's only a 10 minute boat ride out to where we anchored and got in the water. Once in, you have a noodle and you hold on to a raft with lights that attract the plankton the mantas eat. I don't think you really need to be a strong swimmer or snorkeler. You don't swim very far before grabbing the raft. The mantas swim right up to you! You're holding on and floating so you just get to watch. It's amazing. The guides were great for when people had enough or got seasick and had to swim back to the boat. My husband was nervous to swim and be in deep water but they calmed everyone's nerves and made it really fun. They really respect and love the mantas and it's very cool that we get to experience that! One thing is that there is no good parking for this location. It's just street parking along the road down to the dock. Get there early. Don't try to drive down to the dock. read more

The whole experience was great. Had a huge group and they really made all of us feel so welcomed and safe. I unfortunately dropped my phone in the water, they helped me look for it but it was nowhere to be found. They let me know they'd try to find it when the scuba diver was around. I lost hope, because it seemed to had fallen so deep down. A whole week later they called to let me know they had found it. We did the 9 pm Manta Ray Snorkel and it was a wonderful experience. Besides seeing a ton of beautiful Manta Rays including a surprise visit from Big Bertha, plus a couple dolphins, we really have to give our praise to the crew. They were incredibly helpful, going out of their way to make sure everybody was happy and comfortable. They explain everything in detail and most importantly were very clear and strict about keeping these beautiful animals safe. Also, the boat itself was clean and has stairs instead of a ladder which is helpful when returning on board. Side note, they have prescription snorkel gear for us nearsighted people. The trip can be intimidating so late at night and they were good at coaching each one of us to and from the boat for the viewing. They constantly go around to make sure we're all comfortable in the water and talk to us about the manta rays throughout our time in there. My daughter along with others did return to the boat early. The crew made sure to help each person who wanted to return to the boat without making them feel bad for going back. After we all returned, the crew did attendance, a head count, and provided us with hot chocolate or other drinks. This was a good trip. We did the captain Cook afternoon snorkel. Takes about 45 mins to get to the destination. You're in the water for about 35 mins after the safety instruction and getting equipment. Note that if you stay at the back of the boat on your way to the destination, you'll get in the water first amd would have more time snorkeling. Also note that the bathroom on this boat is super nice and clean, and much better than the bathroom at the harbor. read more

It's been about a month ago now, but we spent two travel days along with six days on the BI. One of my bucket list items is snokeling with manta rays. We made our reservation with Sea Paradise a couple of days in advance... I'd recommend making them further out than we did, but it is what it is. Lol We met the crew at the designated spot and were greeted and outfitted with wet suits. Everything was going great at this point for all of us! We kicked off our shoes and boarded the catamaran for the short trip out to the lights. Our party of six had selected a 900 PM trip and I want to say there was probably 23-25ish people onboard plus boat crew. The crew was awesome! I really enjoyed their energy. Two of our party have motion sickness issues normally and this is where things started to get a little rough for them. It's a short trip, but the trip out can be a bit bumpy (the trip back was smooth as buttah). The crew laid out the rules. What to do if you had issues, etc. We all made it out to the floats... I was the first one from our party into the water and was sandwiched tightly between two females. One from our party and another who was with another party. The mantas showed up after a few minutes. We probably had 5-7 around us at all times. Oh my gosh! So spectacular! I had a GoPro and was able to capture the barrel rolls and I can't convey how truly amazing it is! A couple minutes in I got a tap on my Left arm. "Hey can you move over a little?" I had to respond no that I was sandwiched in and couldn't move. About 20 min later a tap on my Right arm... It was one of the crew. "You can move over. There's plenty of room." I looked over and my whole party was gone and there were only about five or six of us total left in the water. My party... 1 - Couldn't stop kicking her legs and was pulled. You have to be careful. "Vegas rules." The mantas can touch you but you are not allowed to touch them (or kick). 1 - Got sick. Thought he'd be better in the water. Nope. 1 - Freaked out when a manta brushed up against her 2 - Got out to check on their spouses I was the last man standing from my group.... Well swimming. You know what I meant... And loved every second of it...! Even if you are an adept swimmer pop your head out of the water now and then. The crew does a great job highlighting the experience and talking about the individual rays they've gotten to know over the years. Do invest in a GoPro. The cheap underwater cameras off of Amazon will work but you'll want the memories. For me it was probably a once in a lifetime deal. One of our party was carrying one of those cheap cameras. They do work even if they aren't the greatest quality... He got about 30 seconds of mantas, audio of his getting rescue swam back to the boat, and about 25 min of him dry heaving and begging to get off the boat. I'm going to make him "a best of" for Christmas. Lol Do remember to tip your crew! read more

Great organized outing to see manta rays even if you don't want to get into the water but be part of the experience. It's a cheaper option as a ride along. Being in the water would have been even more amazing so next time! Wet suits are required though. Be ready to stretch your arms overhead while floating, which is really a great set up to be close but giving them space to do their eating. The crew were friendly, upbeat and knowledgeable. The food selections for continental breakfast were as advertised and good. The lunch sandwich bar was good and plentiful. The stars here are the crew. The weather didn't "cooperate" for our first snorkel location and the crew took us to another which was delightful. Snorkeling at the Cook Monument doesn't disappoint. If I could give more stars I would. I cannot say enough great things about Sea Paradise. We had booked the week before our date by accident and they were very accommodating in getting the booking switched for us. When we arrived the crew was very friendly and helpful. They provide all the gear you could need along with reef safe sunscreen and yummy snacks! The crew we had aboard was Captain Troy, and Noe. I can't remember the rest of the crew. But Noe was THE BEST. My mother was with us and she was terrified of the ocean and he made her feel comfortable a prepared her. My daughter was the only child on the catamaran as well and he let her hold an urchin and was teaching her things about the ocean, my son had a cramp and needed assistance and he was right there to help. They made the trip an experience of a lifetime and worth every penny we paid. We are already planning our next trip to the island and they are part of it! Can't wait to be back! read more

We initially did the morning snorkeling trip to Kealakekua Bay. The Hoku Nui was clean and had ample space for everyone. After being provided the snorkeling gear (even a prescription -4.0) mask) we had 2 45 minute snorkeling sessions. The crew was energetic and very accommodating, which made for an even more pleasant cruise. The fish and scenery were gorgeous and it was worth every penny. The crew also talked about the night Manta Ray tour, and after receiving a nice frequent flyer discount, we signed up and it was simply awesome. After being provided a wet suit, and some basic safety and rules, we then swam to the lighted manta floatation device. The night we went, there were 20+ manta rays seen swimming, barrel rolling, and swimming so close that we were bumped by manta rays on a number of occasions. Being so close to these large, majestic animals was nothing short of incredible. This is a must do adventure if you are on the big island. read more

Had a great trip seeing the manta rays. It was my first time in Hawaii but thankfully not my first time snorkeling (it was only my second, though) and getting to see the manta rays at night was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The crew did a good job of keeping us safe and comfortable, even though the water was pretty choppy that night and many of the people on the boat asked to go back to the boat early. My friends and I had a great time, even though I did get pretty nauseous after getting back on the boat after being in the water and ended up vomiting later that night. I get nauseous relatively easily, though, and I think I would've been fine on a less choppy night. Pros: -the crew did a good job of herding the cats prior to and during boarding -the crew also did a good job of explaining the history of the manta rays in the bay and the importance of not touching the manta rays -I like that they had ginger chews (for the seasick folks including myself) Cons: -The company should check on the wetsuits periodically to make sure they are in good repair. One of my friends was really really cold in the water despite wearing a wetsuit because there was a hole in the wetsuit that allowed cold water in. The hole was not large enough for her to notice while putting it on but boy did she notice it once she was already in the water. -They could have done a better job of coaching people who had never snorkeled before. All they need is a brief demonstration of how to put it on, fit it right, and then breathe through the mouth part. read more

My friend and I did the 8:30 p.m. Manta Ray Snorkel with Sea Paradise last night and it was phenomenal. Definitely a bucket-list, must do experience. They explained why the manta rays congregate and it was obvious they were very conservation oriented. I was caught off guard when they brought out wetsuits. I am a plus size woman and the idea of trying on (and possibly not fitting into) a wetsuit really cranked up my anxiety. Crew member Ashton listened to my concern and was incredibly kind, sensitive, and non-judgemental while explaining the wetsuit was not mandatory, but it would let me stay in the water longer. He assured me if it didn't fit there was another size to try. Ashton knows his stuff because it FIT on the first try. Once we were on board, it was a quick trip to snorkel location. The crew went over a few rules and gave a brief history and explanation of why the manta rays come to that location, then it was into the water. I am not a strong swimmer, but I can swim and had only practiced snorkeling 2-3 times in my gym pool so getting into the ocean at night was a bit daunting. The stairs made getting in and out of the water very easy, even if you have old creaky knees. I explained I was a little nervous and gladly accepted help when Captain Adrian asked. He called crew member Caleb over to be my "W-Uber" (AKA water Uber) LOL. Caleb guided me safely out to the snorkel platform/board and then the show began. It's never a guarantee but we saw at least a dozen manta rays along with loads of other fish. They are beautiful, graceful and ethereal as they literally glide by you. Once the "show" was over, Caleb W-Ubered me back to the boat and I was offered a beverage. They also provide ginger chews to ward off sea sickness. Overall experience was a 10 out of 10. We loved the snorkeling with Sea Paradise, we went two days in a row. We did the 5 hour morning tour first and saw spinner dolphins, bottle nose dolphins, and a leaked whale while traveling to our snorkeling spot. The snorkeling was amazing. They have great gear and everything was very organized. Josh and Smiley Keile were awesome and shared culture and facts about the sea life we were seeing. I felt extremely safe! The second day, we went back for the 3 hour afternoon snorkeling. Smiley was there again and she is the best! This time, on the way to our snorkeling spot, we saw a whale shark swimming right along the boat. We saw many spinner dolphins and while snorkeling, they came over to our area and we could see the dolphins swimming around us! We had two amazing trips, saw thousands of beautiful fish-puffers, tangs, triggers, an octopus, parrot fish, and the list goes on and on! So much fun. Wonderful morning on the water with Captain Ro, Noe, Shannon, & Matt! These guys know how to run a snorkel trip. The boat is beautiful and comfortable with spacious bathrooms and plenty of open air seating in both the sunlight and shaded areas. The crew was extraordinary! Not only attentive and service oriented on the boat, but in the water as well keeping everyone safe. They shared stories about the history of the area as well. Fresh fruit & pastries for breakfast and a nice variety for the sandwich bar lunch. We looked at a lot of different ships and we are so glad we chose Sea Paradise, can't wait to do it again! read more

My husband and I did the morning snorkel to the Captain Cook Memorial on the Hoku Nui. Prior to boarding the boat we were given thorough safety instructions. We were served breakfast snacks, including fresh fruit and sweet rolls. On the way out we stopped for a bit to view the whales and dolphins which was very cool. A crew member shared the story of Captain Cook and some of the history of the area which was fun to hear. Two of the crew members were on surf boards in the water watching out for us as we snorkeled. There were "noodles" to hold onto during snorkeling which was great. Saw lots of fish and a couple eels. Lunch was sandwiches, chips, and salad which were served hygienically. Optional hand made drinks were available for sale. ALL the staff were AWESOME!! They were friendly, fun, hard working, and it was apparently that they all enjoyed their roles on the boat. Would do this again in a heartbeat and would highly recommend!!!!!! read more

This was my favorite experience here on the Big Island. The staff was extremely kind, consistent, and wanted only the best for the experience. We saw so many rays, felt completely sage and cared for the entire time. The boat was big, spacious and had a bathroom if needed. I would definitely go again the next time I'm on the island. I ended up getting pretty sick on this excursion so you might be wondering why the heck I'd give it 5 stars... well to start, it's not the fault of the crew that it was a windy day on Big Island. I didn't quite realize that the device used to see the manta rays would feel every inch of that wind in the ocean. But it was so worth it since we saw so many rays, I lost count! Seriously, they kept coming every minute and I cut my trip in the ocean short due to sea sickness so I can only imagine my fellow travelers saw so many more than I did. What puts Sea Paradise a cut above though is the amazing captain (shoutout to Rochelle) and crew. My bf and I were both going through it (me sea sick, him nervous to snorkel) and they were so kind and attentive despite that. We both had an A+ experience regardless of our personal struggles. We probably won't go out on another boat excursion again, but we still highly recommend you go with Sea Paradise when you do! read more

Hiighly Recommend!!! Our experience with this team was exceptional. They went above and beyond. One staff member gave a personal 20-minute snorkeling lesson to ensure my wife felt completely comfortable in the water. She doesn't swim and was snorkeling for the first time. She did it like a pro after that session making this every bit worth. The staff were attentive throughout, checking that everyone's masks were properly fitted and defogged before entering the water. Nice attentive crew. Nice boat, it's a beautiful catamaran. Good snacks. I felt safe and so did my partner who is not a strong swimmer. I would recommend these guys.
