Very friendly and responsive staff! Room was clean and comfortable with a little kitchenette. We stayed in April, so the Barbeque area and pool weren't open yet, but looks like a fun place to hang out with family and friends. We'd definitely stay there again and recommend it for casual travelers. Easy walk to grocery store and downtown. :) read more

This little gem of a motel made our stay amazing. This place is exceptionally clean (not even a dust bunny to be found under beds, bathroom shining and outdoor areas are immaculate). The beds were super comfortable and firm. Location was only one block from downtown and a short walk to the carnival grounds if there during Pony Swim activities. We found this place after realizing that camping during a flash flood & thunderstorm wasn't the best idea (the forecast was wrong--didn't rain at all yesterday, but the downpour has continued since 11PM--its7:30AM now). Clean, well stocked. The kitchen is great. Not at all musty. The kids loved the pool even though it's not yet pool season. Grocery store open until 10pm & seafood market open until 6pm down the street, within walking distance of the beach & restaurants. Nice staff. We found the room on Priceline for $101 including taxes (we paid $6 extra for the kitchenette). HOT showers--a rarity these days, very much appreciated during this rain weather/to warm up my kids (who insisted on freezing in the pool again). read more

I cannot believe we found such an absolutely fabulous place to stay for such an incredible price. When we arrived the cottage I had requested a month in advance was exchanged for better cottage with cathedral ceilings upon recommendation of the clerk. I had already read stellar reviews on Yelp and I knew the smell may be a little musty so I came prepared with Glade. My mother and I were not expecting a small house, however, which is essentially what the cottages are. We enjoyed a nice kitchen equipped with what most people would need on their vacation. The cottage had a back porch with a picnic table and grill. Mom took the bedroom while I slept on the pull out bed. It was clean and quiet (with the exception of the fire alarm in town that went off around 2 a.m. Please be prepared for this because, coming out of a deep sleep, you will believe a hurricane is coming and you're going to die.) The only factor that left a dull star was that there was absolutely no wifi in the cottages which was a big disappointment to me. Otherwise, it's a true gem. read more

The Sea Shell Motel offers various lodging options ranging from a basic "motel room" to renting an entire house. I stayed in a basic motel room in late July 2013. My room had two queen beds, a small TV and a small refrigerator. The decor was basic and was in need of new paint as there were several scrapes/marks on the wall. It wasn't terrible, but definitely more shoddy than I would have liked. The bed was quite firm, which I liked. The TV's reception was poor, but it didn't matter since I wasn't in my room very much. I didn't use it, but they have what looked like a nice outdoor pool. They also have a screened-in shed that contains a few gas BBQ grills, a microwave, and a sink. I didn't use any of these either, but they sink area looked pretty dirty. My stay at the Sea Shell was OK, certainly no 5-star hotel, but certainly decent enough. Their rates are also among the least expensive on the island, so you do get what you pay for. read more

I enjoy the simplicity of chincoteague and the sea shell goes right along with that. This place is adorable and everyone who works here is so friendly. The room has updated beds and bedding. The wallpaper is a little dated, but who really cares. The grounds have tons of flowers and shady trees. You feel very relaxed while staying here. Also it's in a great location. Downtown is about two blocks away and you can walk over to Maddox easily too. read more

I could not be more pleased with this sweet little place. Absolutely clean room and well kept grounds. The office staff and housekeeping staff are helpful- when I couldn't log into the internet for a work meeting, someone sat with me and helped till I could log in. When we asked for a vacuum, they brought one over right away. It is located on a quiet side street, but close enough to downtown take a bike ride to get coffee in the morning, or to the market right up the street. A 5 minute drive to the beach access. We have stayed at the Sea Shell several times. It is an older motel but built very well - you don't hear the neighbors television or other noise. They have efficiencies with small kitchens along with regular rooms. Decent pool - if it is too hot to go down to the beach, Close to downtown - you can walk to most of the restaurants. On a side street, very quiet. Our first choice when we are not renting a cottage. Free WiFi. read more

The Sea Shell Motel is family owned. I respect those 'still in the family' places because you know the personal touches are important. The office staff is friendly and helpful. The place is spotless. It's got a charm that you will never find in the chain hotels. The owners care about your welfare and want you to return. Does it get any better? The Sea Shell Motel is so much better than the hotel chains that pop up on every corner with bland, hollow rooms (often a bit dirty, too). These big boxes motels don't welcome you, but simply provide a room with a bed to sleep on that you can't wait to check out of. We stayed for a weekend in Cottage #6. This pretty little gem of a real cottage had everything you need and more. We had a kitchen, a living room, a dining area, several televisions, a separate bedroom and bath. It was spacious and clean as you would imagine. And the price was better than you can imagine. Our little cottage had private parking and was in a deep green area behind the main house. It was off the road and quiet. It was clean. It was well kept. The cottage is only two blocks off the main street. That part of town is very quiet with minimum traffic. We weren't in a hurry to move on. It felt like home. We'll be back! read more

Found this motel at the last minute when we decided to spend an extra night in Chincoteague. Very friendly staff, you really feel welcome here. It has an awesome retro vibe. We thought the motel room was ample sized for two people, although the front desk said it was on the smaller size. The pool area was well maintained and had a beautiful little garden right outside of it. read more

Affordable and pleasant little hotel a few miles from the beach at Assateague. It was tidy and quiet, but definitely no-frills. Specifically: TV has lots of channels, but it's small; pool also small and, in our experience, full of kids 'round the clock; room does not come with shampoo or conditioner (just soap), so remember to bring your own; beds in our motel room were a little squeaky; WiFi didn't work well. But the location is peaceful and just a few blocks from restaurants, souvenir shops, beach-supply stores, and a scooter rental place. We enjoyed sitting on the veranda and breathing the clean air. I love this place. I've stayed in The Bishop House and a motel room. It is so cute. The prices are awesome, especially after Sept. 4th.

The only thing that keeps this from being a five star review is that the beds have some age on them. Other than that you can't beat this little gem of a hotel. It's tidy, quiet and affordable. We have stayed here every couple years for the last 18 or 19 years. We wouldn't stay any where else. We appreciate the recent renovation. Our efficiency was very usable! We stayed on the island 3 nights and stayed at this motel the entire time. This is defiantly not a chain type hotel, it is more of a family run motel. Not to fancy, just the basics. We did not have any problems at all during our stay. Having the kitchenette was awesome, we did use it to cook simple dishes, everything you need to cook and eat was there. The island is not to big, so no matter where you stay, your close to everything. There is a grocery store a couple blocks away. We rented scooters and I must admit that is was an excellent way to travel around the island, I highly recommend renting scooters, there are a couple different place to get them. The beach is a must see and there are wild horses in the park. We did see the horses every day. If you a camera buff, there is a ton of photo opportunities of wildlife. We will definitely stay here again. read more

We've been here twice. The first time was in October and we had the Nancy Fletcher house. Perfect place to stay, parked our rental bikes in the yard and biked to main st frequently. Saw lots of island cats! Second visit in July - we stayed in Dolly house #5. Ac units kept us cool and we spent time in the pool. Nice to have a full size fridge in both houses. No laundry in smaller house. Nancy fletcher house has laundry. read more

My sister and I stayed here this weekend, and couldn't be any happier. Our room was clean, modern, and the beds were extremely comfortable. I don't sleep that we'll in my own bed. The gentleman at the front desk is more than friendly. The pool is well maintained, and clean. I will definitely be back as many times as the Seashell will have me! read more
