I went with a local hotel rather than a chain. It is a two-star hotel and you could tell, but the waterside view was quite helpful, and given some dodgy weather I was glad I had a place where I could look out on the water while being under a roof. I have been to chincoteague several times now over the past 6 years or so and everyone has been super nice until today when I came into the lobby to check in at 2 instead of 3:00. The young girl behind the desk seemed really annoyed and said check in is at 3:00. That was it. She didn't say Oh sorry, no, we can't let people check in before 3 bc we are low on cleaning staff and so would you like to wait in the lobby? No she didn't. Definitely gave a mean girl vibe. So I left and sat in my car for an hour with it running to keep the AC on bc it was pretty hot out in July. When I went back in at 3 to check in it was another lady who was much nicer and explained why they can't do earlier check ins. The rooms and pool are fine and the roses are gorgeous. read more

Such a quaint little hotel. Nothing fancy but perfect for the island. We were there in December and possible the only ones. Check in was a breeze and they were helpful about where to go. We had a wonderful room with beautiful views. Loved the balcony and 2 sinks. Fridge and microwave.....everything you need. Even modernized with USB ports to charge your phone. Only thing that the hot tub was not open when it was suppose to be which was a Saturday afternoon around 4. We did not take advantage of breakfast so I don't know about that. What a beautiful , extremely clean & quiet inn! The rooms are clean, fully stocked with towels & toiletries. The 3rd floor bayside rooms are the best for viewing the sunset. The place has a large dock that you can fish or crab from without needing a license. There are grills there if you'd like to cook your catch. They offer Grab n Go breakfast, simple breakfast sandwiches or made to order waffles. And a lovely heated outdoor swimming pool!! read more

I love coming to this hotel. The staff is fantastic, from Ruth Ann, to Alice, Cassie to Laura who cleans the third floor. They're like family to me now. The views are fantastic. You get a balcony overlooking the bay. Tip: book the third floor and ask for a room near the pool. The pool is fantastic right on the water and they have charcoal grills and picnic tables you can use. It's a great way to save money by not eating out. Sunsets are amazing out on their long dock. Plenty of parking. Continental breakfast and you get a fridge, microwave and coffee maker in your room which is helpful. I think the staff and the views are my favorite thing about this place. Location is fantastic and you can walk to restaurants. For the price you pay, you can't get views like they have. read more

We arrived at Waterside Inn early afternoon to a pleasant reception and quick service in the front office. Within 3minutes we were checked in and on our way up to our room. Our room was on the 3rd floor. It was bright, clean tastefully decorated with coastal accents. I especially liked the view of the water from our balcony and the sound of flying seagulls nearby. The family owned Inn was close enough to the downtown that we could walk or bike to the shops and restaurants downtown yet far enough to still feel the calm of being by the coast. ------- -Going the Extra Mile- Our car battery died as we were about to leave for lunch while staying at the Inn and the Supervisor Ruthanne was quick to bring us jumper cables to restart our car. It turned out that our hybrid car would need to be towed in a few days. But we were leaving in the next morning. Ruthanne agreed to let us keep the car there for 3 days at no cost and go home. To get home the next day, we called a car rental company to rent a car but needed a ride to the rental company while was 19miles off the island. After failed attempts we realized that there are no Ubers, Lyfts or Cabs on Chincoteague island. Graciously, the manager of our hotel, Ruth Anne volunteered to drive us the 30mins to rent our car, packing her car full of our luggage and vacation purchases! She then waited until we were guaranteed a vehicle and had signed the contract. Then assisted us in transferring our luggage before she left. She went more than the extra mile for our comfort and peace of mind! We would HIGHLY recommend Waterside Inn in general AND now we also recommend it because of the warm staff that act like family. This hotel provided everything that I was looking for on my first trip to Chincoteague. Wonderful balcony view, quiet, and relaxing. The pool right on the water was fantastic. Great dock area with grills and picnic tables. Comfortable rooms, elevator, Keurig, microwave, mini-fridge, chairs, and table on the balcony, ice machines, and soda machines on every floor. There are rose bushes all over the property and they are stunning. Every color you could imagine. Couldn't have asked for more. I will definitely be returning. read more

Beware of booking here. Weather conditions were horrid and they would not allow a cancel. Nothing open on the island. The family dollar was closing in a hour and one "diner" open. The national park closed which was purpose of visiting. The causeway was flooding. This is when you are supposed to be kind to people -- not take advantage of their money. We could have been stranded here with no food! Seek other options!!! Totally rude and ignorant to us as well. A freaking hurricane and they are squabbling over a few $. Terrible. read more

The good and the bad. The staff was very friendly. The room was very outdated and dirty. The shower curtain had black mold and the carpets turned my feet black. They was a moldy smell on the first floor and the view was obstructed by weeds and a door that would only open a few inches. I called the front desk, they did replace the shower curtain and I made sure to wear shoes the entire time I was in the room. I would not recommend. I prefer chains with higher standards read more

Stayed here for New Years weekend. It was a beautiful and cozy place to relax. The room had a great waterside view and patio area, and it looked to be that way for most rooms. The inside of the room had everything we needed for our stay (microwave, refrigerator, hair dryer, iron, etc). The Inn is very close to the restaurants, although most of them were closed for the winter. Staff were very nice and free breakfast was a bonus. Would love to visit again. As far as location, we saw the Assateague ponies and lighthouse, which is about a 20min drive away. Ocean City is 1hr and 15min away. read more

Like other reviews have stated, GREAT Staff, very friendly and informative. Very clean and tidy atmosphere and QUIET....so nice! Are you here for work? They will pack a breakfast for you if you don't have time to sit down, just like Momma used to! Your not finding that at a chain motel. I was on the third floor closest view of the pool, bay and pier, more expensive than the other floors but once you step out to the balcony you find out why. Picturesque view from my balcony, very useful if you have fishing gear, allows it to dry out and doesn't stink up your room. The rooms are older but the pub type table, sitting chair and couch were nice. There is a small work desk and two sinks in the room I had. Dorm type refrigerator, closet, and two drawers underneath the TV for your stuff. Free Wi-Fi in which you receive the passkey when you check in, if you lose your small slip, it is located on the phone directory on your room phone. Very nice dock, bigger then most on the island and they have benches there so you don't need chairs. I was here July 25-27, the prices are higher (approx $200+) around Pony Penning 7/28-8/1 time frame but you won't shake that any where you go on the island. In summary, I felt like I was visiting my aunt/grandma if they lived here. It's comfortable peaceful and does the job! This place was adequate. My husband and I stayed for our wedding anniversary this weekend and it was pleasant but nothing special. If my expectations had been any higher, I would have been very disappointed. Pros: the hotel has a great location and GREAT views. It was fantastic to wake up, sit outside with your breakfast and hear birds and smell the salt air. Cons: the hotel is outdated. Our room looked clean when we arrived but on closer inspection, there were a few issues. Example: food left in the microwave from the previous guest, hair on the sheets, mildew in the shower, etc. None of these felt like a good enough justification to move rooms though. The bathroom did have a weird smell. It was even worse after I had run the water in the shower for awhile. The breakfast was worse than a normal continental breakfast but I suspect it's just fine for most folks (my husband doesn't eat pork which limited his options). We could hear the people above us every single time they moved. It kept my husband up the second night we stayed there. We didn't use the hot tub or the pool but both of them looked pretty nice and the pool is heated! Overall, I think the place was a bit overpriced for what you get. After taxes, we paid $120 a night with our groupon deal. If we had paid full price, I would be rating this lower. read more

My husband & I booked a night at the Waterside Inn for a recent birthday getaway. We loved our stay. I love that they don't make you book more than one night to reserve a room. Donna was super helpful in booking the room & giving us a tips on where to go on the island. It was awesome to be able to walk anywhere we wanted to go on Main St. The Inn is very clean & kept up. There are beautiful flower bushes along the sides. The pool looked inviting even though we didn't have a chance to swim. It sits right along the water & has a pier. Our room was very spacious & the bed was super soft. The water pressure & temperature was fabulous!! The view from our room/balcony was lovely. We spent most of our time at the inn enjoying the view. They have a nice complimentary breakfast, little gym, & hot tub. We'll definitely book again the next time we visit! read more

Charming and perfect for us! On our bucket list was a few days on the Eastern Shore, on Chincoteague Island with a day trip to Tangier, and this was a perfect place for us. It is a beautifully kept up 30 year old inn, family run, on the water with gorgeous views and sunsets! Three stories and an elevator, and there are perfectly manicured rosebushes of many colors with lamp posts in front of the walkways, so pretty. Everything is VERY clean. We had a king sized bed which was soft and very comfy. The rooms have fridge, microwave, and balcony with table and chairs. Besides a small sofa, we had a very comfy velour reclining armchair. Extra towels, and beach-themed toiletries felt wonderful. There is a very clean jacuzzi hot tub and weight lifting room, and a heated outdoor pool. I noticed a guest cooking burgers on a grill by the pool/dock. There is a modest breakfast available (eggs, sausage, waffles, cereal etc) included. Lovely stroll into their tiny downtown is purely delightful, maybe 1/3 mile walk with patriotic flags of local vets from the poles, and a lovely waterfront park with photo-op of giant LOVE Adirondack chairs. We passed a fabulous restaurant and came back there to dine, Bill's. This wonderful Inn reminded us of a gentler time, and we loved it and recommend it! read more

We have just returned from a night at waterside inn and it was delightful. Donna the owner was so sweet and so were all of the others that worked there! The view was incredible from our third floor room. The amenities were very nice in the room. We didn't swim, crab or fish but will on our next visit. Great waffles at breakfast which to our pleasant surprise was included! Try AJ's River Cafe!! Sit on the porch on the river. The soft shell crabs were incredible! read more

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The room was large, clean, and the view very nice indeed. We were on the 3rd floor, and all balconies face southwest. You could open both doors and get a nice cross breeze. During our stay it was rather windy (hurricane Matthew was on the way) and the building also sheltered us so we could enjoy sitting outside regardless. The staff was wonderful. I had been frustrated at not being able to get into the Museum of Chincoteague because of off-season hours, and the manager Donna made made a phone call and we were able to arrange a quick visit while the museum staff prepared for the hurricane. The little girl in me just HAD to see Misty! I can't say what this meant to me. But honestly, everyone there was friendly and helpful. I mentioned our door had a terrible creak when opening, and they were on it within the hour to oil the hinges. The breakfasts were okay - I liked the hot oatmeal best but they will make waffles for you, and the sausage gravy was pretty good. There is a hot tub which we didn't try but we did enjoy the pool one morning. We spent a lot of time on the balcony watching gulls, herons, and ducks. The ducks are everywhere on the island and I found them endlessly amusing. I don't know if we'll ever visit again but I would certainly stay here again if we do. read more

The hotel was amazing. There are rooms only on the one side of the building. So you have a front door where you can see the pool, parking lot and parts of the bay...then you have the back balcony which is waterfront to the bay. We were very surprised by the waterfront view we had. So beautiful every day to wake up too. We also didn't know they provided continental breakfast which was a pleasant surprise. Overall I absolutely loved this hotel. Waterfront view was a priority of mine and we got just that. Cost is incredibly low but not cheap. $105 a night for the first floor with a view. The 2nd and 3rd the pricing goes up to have that location....by like $15/floor. Still affordable. Loved it!!! read more

If your looking for a Nice Non-Chain hotel than this would be the place. The staff is very friendly and they keep a very clean place. The price is pretty comparable to the rest of the hotels on the island. They are currently in the proccess of redoing the rooms floor by floor. The work out facility is small but clean and also has a hot tub :-). Their pool is open during the summer. The owners have always been pleasant and accomidating to the guys that work with me at NavAir since we have a schedule that is constantly in flux. It's one of the major reasons that we do as much of out buisness with them when we are out here. Another plus is that they are within walking distance of the Chincoteague Inn and Resturant which was The happening place when I was out here. They are also close to several other buisness and resturants. A bit of info about Chincoteague: during the off season there really isnt much open let alone much to do. However I've been told by quite a few of my coworkers that is is a fun place and fills up in the summer. If your in the mood for seafood, especially clams, then look no further. Personally, I am contemplating taking a trip out there this summer to try and see if what I was told is true. However I do know that when they do the wild pony round up on Assiteague Island and swim them to Chincoteague that the place is absolutely NUTS. read more

I found the place on groupon, great deal for 2 nights and a 3 days getaway. I had really no expectations. First impression was good, I entered the room and saw the wonderful view on the water. I immediately felt well. The bedroom furnitures is a little bit outdated but it was clean and confy. The breakfast is very decent: fresh waffles, muffins, toasts, sausages, omelets, cereals... Just stayed here 12/23-12/26 and really enjoyed the place . I stayed on the 1st floor and had some of the most beautiful sunsets and sun rises. Used the hot tub and it was just what I needed . The room was very clean and the heat was on before I arrived so the room temp was perfect . The staff was extremely friendly . I started this review a while ago, forgot to post. This place is one of the worst motels/hotels I have ever been to. Our room smelled like cleaning detergents and everything was very moist. It was hard to sleep because of the noisy A/C mixed with the reeking smell of detergents. The furniture was dated and the room didn't seem to clean. Overall, if you are not one to stay in motels usually, then I wouldn't stay in this one. read more

There was a pullout couch, but would have been cramped with that. There was a nice balcony with a water view. There's a pier that you can crab and fish all day. We did catch 10 crabs. Stayed just one night for a rocket launch. Waited 5 hours at the NASA Visitor Center with massive crowds and hour-long lines for the bathroom, and I can't even describe the traffic. It was still worth it, at least I though so. After the launch, I checked in to my room here only to find out that the rooms have balconies with perfect views of Wallops Island and the hotel is almost the exact same distance from the launch as the visitor center. Next time I'll just watch from here!!! The place is fantastic! Great breakfast, everyone was friendly, and the rooms were larger than I expected and very clean. read more

Wonderful that the pool is open until very very late, as it can be too hot to swim earlier in the evening. Lots of convenient parking, but the elevator was quite slow and uncomfortably very very hot! Not sure why our room had a very limited view of the water since it was paid way ahead of time. The tree that blocked view should be at least trimmed. The breakfast room is really much too small for the number of rooms at this establishment. We were invariably crowded out or could barely get to the food because there was a very tiny path around the tables. Finally, the coffee was extremely weak and the eggs pre-cooked and thawed.....? I was in the small village in downtown Chincoteague Island on a lovely June weekend. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Waterside Motor Inn. Make no mistake, this place is not fancy. Words like quaint and charming would be more appropriate. At first glance it looks like a standard issue, 70s era, discount motel. In fact, it may once have been just that. The decor certainly looks and feels like it. But it is only when the TLC shown at every turn , that it becomes obvious that this particular motel is, indeed, very special. There are dozens upon dozens of lovingly tended rosebushes. A velvety carpet of neatly tended lawn encircles the property. Inside and out are kept spotless. The pool is waterside, which all pools should be, when possible. There is a delightful kitschy indoor Jacuzzi. It sits beneath a glass atrium which highlights lovely views. There is a hot, free breakfast in the morning included in the price and it seems of a bit higher quality than one normally finds. But very best of all is its terrific setting. The Waterside Inn is situated on the water of the Chincoteague channel. There is a long dock with bench seating on which to enjoy a beautiful sunset every night. There is enough boat traffic to make it scenic without being intrusive. The following morning I enjoyed coffee on my waterfront balcony and the amount and variety of sea birds was impressive. I do not hesitate to give this resort 5 well deserved stars. read more

What a great little place. Stayed here as a halfway point from OBX. My only regret is that I only stayed for one night. I can't wait to go back. The people who run the place are really friendly and kind. The room had everything you could want, and more: microwave, fridge, little lounge set, large flat screened television, and a terrace with a partial water view. So the eggs were not the best. This place was beautiful. Opening the door, it smelled clean, looked clean and was everything I hoped it would be. The staff, from front desk to the women taking care of the rooms were very nice and friendly. The deck overlooked the water which was beautiful, from a glass of wine in the evening to coffee in the morning. The eggs might not have been Hampton Inn fine, but the biscuits and gravy, sausage and waffles made up for that. The pool is heated and on the waters edge (though I didn't bring a suit) looked wonderful. Even the folks staying here were very nice. I will definitely be back. read more

We stayed here for an anniversary get away. I initially booked through Travelocity and I had two reservations. I tagged an extra night onto my stay so we got in a day early than the first reservation. Well my other reservation which was 3 more nights had been cancelled for some odd reason. The hotel was very busy so we didn't know if we would have our room for the rest of the week. When management came in the next morning she said it was all taken care of, not to worry. I was so relieved. The staff here from the front desk to the housekeepers are very courteous and helpful. Breakfast was good and the staff are there to attend to making waffles and refilling your drink if needed. The rooms are clean and views are beautiful. It's very calm and peaceful here. Just a great non-chain motel. The rooms are nothing special, but clean with more than adequate A/C for our summer stay. The real surprise was the staff. Super friendly, never hesitated to give advice on tours and shops, always there when you needed them. The free breakfast was worth getting out of bed for. Mini waffles from an iron that was so clean it looked like it just came out of the box, and a wide variety of selections. My wife enjoyed the pool by the bay with underwater lights for night swimming, and the more than 100 rose bushes that surround the Inn. Looking forward to another stay next year. read more
