This place is responsibly priced for the area and is a fine place to stay the night. The inn is old and is nothing fancy, but it was clean, quiet, and in a good location. They have a few bicycles, but some are in rough shape. The breakfast was light but delicious. There is plenty of free public parking behind the inn. So park behind them and walk through the back to the front door. The staff is friendly and did a good job cleaning the room and serving. I did not try dinner, but it was packed; I don't know if that indicates quality. But all the tables were full. For the price compared to the other hotels, it's a good choice for a couple. I'm sure you could have kids, but there is nothing on the grounds to keep them entertained. And because of that, if you stay there, you don't get the noise from screaming kids or the frat boys getting wasted next door. It's an excellent option for an overnight stay. read more

Review of pre-fixe 5 course dinner. A bygone era is alive and well here. I appreciated the service that emphasized decorum and gentleness. The courses were so different; a lot of thought has gone into the menu and prep. The crab bisque was delicious and appropriately sized. I loved the subtle touch of sherry. A smart way to begin the evening. I found the amuse bouche plate that consisted of a single scallop, French onion scone with strawberry preserves, Gruyere cheese, and other foods, to be a bit confusing. The salad plate was top notch, enjoyable. Red snapper, the main course, was right in there. A lovely fillet, placed on a bed of delicate mashed potatoes and fresh vegetable medley, was excellent. The chocolate fig cake dessert looked superb but some of the other chocolate components weren't complementary. The whole dining experience was very relaxing. read more

We went for piano night on a Tuesday. Service was nice, prompt, if not somewhat rushed. I was a part of a dinner reservation party that came reserved before the menu was announced and could not cancel once we learned of it. The bed and breakfast has a niche, kitsch and old feel. Like stepping into someone's great grandmas home. Very quaint! Their wine and beer selection has a decent amount of options to satiate. I appreciate that local coffee from AmaRin is served as both regular and decaf, though it is brewed as you'd expect of a diner. The food was largely flavorless and relied on basic butter and salt to carry it. We started with a tomato bisque with a parm crisp that came pre-dipped so half was flaccid and mushy while the rest was crunchy. Another appetizer was the grits cake and shrimp with a tomato jam-- it was fine. My partner ended up eating mine as I was not compelled. The cheese scone was decent and very rich between its butter, cheese, plus the thick layers of balsamic and caramelized onions and more cheese inside. Very dense so I'm glad it was quite small. I wish it came out warm! The salad was very sweet between the 3 cubes of melon, candied nuts, and sweet vinaigrette (the feta and bacon's salt did not cut through). Overall an unbalanced plate that most of us regrettably ate as something green and fresh. Not my thing nor would it be something I'd expect from a prepared dinner. It was more like something one could toss together at a salad bar. My fish was overcooked, tough, leathery, and more suited for shredding with a knife. It is a lean fish but this was truly something like pressed chunks in a can without water. Unfortunately, my crab-cream sauce began to separate on my plate. The crab itself was fluffy and probably the few flake I could salvage were my favorite thing I scraped out of the cream. I was hopeful for the bright vegetables, but the broccolini was fibrous and still somewhat raw while all of the carrots, bell peppers, and broccolini only tasted of room-temperature butter that thickly overwhelmed my palette. Not sure where the red pepper was hidden. The saffron rice was probably my favorite thing but it was simply rice with light seasoning. I tried my partners beef dish which was fine, coming with mashed potatoes and a wine sauce which had good texture but mostly tasted of salt. The vegetable accompaniments were disappointingly dying in butter same as mine. The cheesecake was introduced as a basque style cheesecake. I'm no pro, but we seemed to be served regular cheesecake? I believe basque style should reveal a light, burnt/toasted top with a gooey interior but instead we received a crustless, whipped cream cheese flavored mound. I enjoyed the cherries and bitter chocolates which reminded me of luxardo maraschino cherries. Overall, I think this menu would have been more fun as a culinary cooking demo for some additional entertainment and reminded me of similar menus. I think the idea of a pre fixe on this small island is grand, but the lack of competition and influence of other dining in the world is quite evident in its limits in flavor and application. Don't worry, we paid in full and left a 20% tip as it was not serving staff's fault. I hope the restaurant can read my experience as something to consider. Family of four on Saturday July 5th. The service, atmosphere, food, ambiance... all excellent. The overall experience was outstanding. Highly recommend. Our meal price was $75 each, includes tax, so my bill was $300 (plus the bottle of wine we ordered, and also enjoyed very much). The price is reasonable for the experience. Multiple courses and a preset menu were a dining experience the kids had not experienced before. Also, I am sure the set menu rotates depending on availability of items and ingredients. However, we were able to pick our protein, such as fish vs beef or chicken, and also select a side, rice vs potato. Just enough modification so that everyone could enjoy what they preferred. The soup, salad, appetizer and dessert were set items. The salad was crazy good. The only item to take home was some dessert, and only because one in my party does not like cheesecake, and the rest of us were simply too full. read more

I wanted to share the wonderful dining experience I had today at the Channel Bass Inn Restaurant for Saturday Tea! The food was delicious, the plating was gorgeous, and the atmosphere was tranquil and refined. Our friendly server brought us seemingly endless courses of savory and sweet treats; he and the Maître d' were so on top of things, I don't think my teacup was ever empty for longer than a nanosecond And Chefs Kristan and Bill even came out at the end to say hello and share the inspiration behind today's special St. Patrick's Day-themed menu! I've heard great things about their breakfast and dinner menus as well, and I can't wait to come back to try those out. I believe they will be offering daily breakfasts, Thursday/Saturday afternoon tea, and dinners on Sundays through Wednesdays -- which is fantastic, as I know those days tend to have fewer dining options on the island! The Channel Bass Inn checks all my boxes: scrumptious food, beautiful presentation, friendly service, and best of all, an elegant yet relaxed atmosphere. Anniversary weekend was a smashing success! The sweet English couple, Barbara and David, that owns and runs this quaint B&B will make you feel like you've crossed the pond! They greet you at the door and welcome you into the sunroom which leads into the foyer and common living room. The guest rooms are charmingly appointed with cozy nooks and lovely furnishings. We were so comfortable in the king suite. The bed was comfy and homey. They provide soft towels and yummy robes. We also appreciated that there was no tv in the room so we could really relax and unplug! Literally!! There is a tv downstairs for all of the news junkies out there, haha! (By the way, we felt totally safe because everyone wore masks and the place was meticulously sanitized.) There's parking behind the inn, and located in the heart of historic Chincoteague near all the shops and restaurants! We got a mini tour of the inn; we were ushered into the pristine dining room, the hallway full of tea accoutrements, the artfully designed kitchen, the bright, cheery, sunroom and the gorgeous gardens!! After we unpacked, (we got a workout because we were on the third floor, no elevator and we liked it!) we poured ourselves a cup of tea and took a walk. We meandered through the naturally landscaped grounds, the pond with a fountain drew the attention of the kitty mascots and many pretty birds. We loved the rustic design of the gardens with burst of colors everywhere you looked, terra cotta pots of filled with herbs, the wrought iron gate, the brick path, the little wooden buildings, the ivy covered arches, and several seating spots to sit and enjoy nature. The meals we shared in the dining area were all marvelous! We had two breakfasts: one offered dill scrambled eggs, fried potatoes, fruit salad with a yogurt honey topping, bagels with salmon, cream cheese, onion, tomato and capers, and a selection of tea breads. It was delish! The next day they served a fluffy broccoli quiche, sausage, a baked apple, zucchini bread, lemon tea bread. Both breakfast meals came with robust coffee, perfectly steeped Yorkshire tea, and orange juice. Incredibly appetizing food served by the owners and their friendly staff. We opted for their special tea service as well! The tearoom was elegantly prepared for tea time! It was my favorite part of the trip! Barbara, the dynamic owner, makes just about everything that is served! The scones are amazing, the dainty tea sandwiches delighted us, and the desserts were out of this world: apple cake, almond coconut macaroons and a chocolate mousse concoction! I fell in love with the Dutch tea cozy purses!! The checkout process was a bit slow, but we didn't mind because we got to chat with Barbara and David. Once you visit the Channel Bass Inn, you become their friends! This rather old-fashioned stay was truly brilliant! It was relaxing and refreshing and made our weekend trip to Chincoteague even more special. An amazing dinner. I have been in Accomack County for 30 years and worked on the island for 5 years. I don't know how I missed the Channel Bass Inn. I was aware of their formal tea, but it was not something I was interested in. My friend had attended a tea there a couple weeks ago and raved about the experience. I was taken last night for a birthday dinner. We enjoyed 4 courses and a nice desert. First course a mushroom bisque. Delicious. Second course a crab cake and a couple of seared scallops served on a very flavorful roux type of sauce. Then a really nice salad with everything from apples to Gorgonzola with a maple Dijon dressing. Wonderful. Fourth course was Chilean Sea Bass served with a shrimp sauce. Again well prepared and presented. Desert was an apple butter basque cheesecake. We drank a terrific Chianti. Ambiance was very nice. My husband and I made a reservation for the 5:30 seating on a Sunday evening for our first anniversary after visiting the website and choosing a menu we liked best. The food was absolutely fantastic! Every dish was thoughtfully done and tasted wonderful. Our steaks were perfectly cooked - something we are both very picky about. The food is brought out in a timely manner but by no means rushed. The wine list is great and the server recommendations were spot on for our meal. Both servers were very interactive and personal without being overbearing. We were lucky enough to stop by Channel Bass Inn for their high tea experience. High tea includes four course with homemade baked goods. The first course was savory (my favorite) and every sandwich was its own unique experience. The second course featured fresh and seasonal baked scones with jam, butter, and whipped cream. All of that deliciousness was followed by a cookie course (who doesn't love cookies?!?!) with the final course being a light fruit salad as a pallet cleanser. Since I'm Celiac, we both ordered high tea gluten free. These are some of the best gluten free baked goods I've ever had. My husband (not gluten free) couldn't taste the difference and is still raving about it! This is such a hidden little gem! The staff is what makes this place great (shout out to Maya, Elise, Kristan and Bill) - I decided on a last minute getaway and they were incredibly accommodating and friendly, especially given that I'm a solo traveler with a dog in tow. The location is convenient to Main Street and the main drag, Maddox Street. The breakfast is amazing- it changes every day, but my favorite was the crab quiche with local tomatoes- absolutely delicious. The Inn itself is charming and well kept - a peaceful place to get some R&R. Would also highly recommend having their afternoon tea - basically a four course dessert heavy meal (what's mot to love?); you need to tell them a day in advance or in the morning, but it's well worth the $35. Apparently, the Inn has new inn keepers as of about a month ago. Generally, this means a dip in the customer experience, but happy to say that this is NOT the case. Review for dinner only. Quaint little dining room. When arrived for 7pm dinner was semi-crowded and empty by time done with dinner so I guess idea is to go early. OK with us as it was piano night and we had him all to ourselves. Piano play very nice and gave us info about the area and the different social groups that lived on the island including the Teagues, summer people, and transplants. We enjoyed our stay. Food for me was just OK as my med rare fillet came out well done. Not inexpensive. Three of us had the all-inclusive dinner (don't recall if a la carte was available). Our friends wisely made reservations for the locally renowned tea at Channel Bass. We entered through a beautiful and fragrant English style garden The owner, Barbara, greeted us in the Victorian lobby and led us to our table. Our friendly server poured their house Earl Grey and quickly delivered a tray of crust less smoked salmon/cream cheese and tomato/cheddar sandwiches. This was followed by a selection of house made scones including , ginger, cranberry and dark fruit accompanied by whipped cream and a selection of spreads. Finally a choice of desserts was offered including a pecan-style tart, chocolate parfait and apple cake. I chose the apple cake and was not disappointed, moist, apple-y and not too sweet. Went to Channel Bass inn for breakfast service and was so good had to return for one of their tea services. This is an excellent choose for breakfast on the island, honestly probably the best. The service is excellent and it's set up with multiple courses. The breads they have were amazing, especially the almond bread. We returned for a tea service the next day. We never attended a tea service before and weren't sure what to expect. Definitely a fancy thing to treat yourself to at some point. The tea is fantastic, and the 4 course tea service filled me way more than I thought it was going to. If they have the rum cake you need to get it. It's the best cake I've ever had in my life and would probably eat a whole cake if they would let me. We didn't stay at the Inn but judging by the food and service, I wouldn't hesitate to stay there. I couldn't figure out why this place didn't have five stars. It's because some of the reviews are so old, they are from before the new owners took over. Bill and.Kristan were amazing! The house is beautiful when you walk in you feel like you stepped back in time with all the antiques and china. There is a beautiful sitting room, the garden with the pond is very peaceful and the dining room is exquisite. The food is amazing since both Bill and Kristan our chefs with extensive culinary backgrounds. Their service staff is friendly and attentive, and we look forward to our meals with them. My boyfriend and I just returned from a long weekend stay at the Channel Bass Inn and we had a WONDERFUL time there! Barbara and David (the owners) made us feel so at home. They provided beach towels, umbrellas, sunscreen, bikes, and anything we could possibly need for a stay at Chincoteague. I eat a vegetarian, dairy free diet and Barbara made sure to accommodate these dietary needs for brunch every morning. Her blueberry pancakes were our favorite breakfast! also the scones are DELICIOUS!! There's a large refrigerator for guests to store things and Barbara and David provide bottled water for guests. The room was clean and cool, despite it being super hot outside. The inn is within walking distance to many great restaurants and shops. Barbara was always eager to help with dinner recommendations and just about anything else! Also, she makes some of the best coffee EVER! Which is a deal breaker for me -- gotta have my coffee! My mom and I came for tea at the Channel Bass Inn and absolutely loved every moment of it! The inn is absolutely gorgeous and very well kept. When calling for reservations, the lovely owner, Barbara made sure to work with our dietary restrictions. When we arrived, she had prepared a very delicious smoked salmon entree just for us. The tea was fantastic, as was her home baking. The ginger scones were absolutely delicious!! I was in heaven with all the lavish food. While enjoying tea, we got to watch the ducks bathe in the pond in the beautiful garden out back. We were welcome to stroll through it after our meal. It is obvious that Barbara pours her heart into her beautiful inn. We were so pleased with our experience with the courteous and pleasant staff. A must read before staying here! My husband and I stayed here for the first time since coming to Chincoteague with our 3 sons for 30 years and have always wanted to stay in a B&B. David and Barbara were very nice host our room was beautiful and the brunch was very good (however both days the eggs were to spicy) should offer some without spice. I must ALERT people though if you have any political beliefs you must be warned that Barbara will openly bring out a voodoo doll YES a VOODOO DOLL of our GREAT President Donald Trump with pens in it. My husband and I couldn't believe what was going on! I was immediately offended by this because we support our President. She didn't hesitate to speak her mind on how she felt about him in front of a table of 6 adults who DON'T know each other and their political views which made for a VERY uncomfortable situation. I spoke my first amendment right and said I supported him and she didn't like my response. My husband who reads a lot about politics on BOTH sides might I add found himself defending President Trump and how she kept calling him racist. I could go on but I think I made my point. We let it go and moved on because we really did like our stay there. So, if you have ANY political beliefs and you really want to stay here you were warned. read more

Fantastic Place to Stay with Kids! We stayed at the inn for 3 nights with our two year old and 4 month old. There are no adjoining rooms at the inn, so it is ideal for families with children. We stayed in the same hall as another family with young kids and neither of us heard a peep from the other. Ms Barbara was the most gracious and warmest of hosts. She loved on us and our kids. It felt like staying with family. She had beach chairs, umbrellas, and sand toys for us to borrow. There was a fridge with bottled water to grab on the go. The coffee and breakfast were amazing and such a treat. She provided us with a high chair for our two year old every morning at breakfast and a roll away bed for him in our room. Having never been to a bed and breakfast, I wasn't sure what to expect. With a name like Channel Bass Inn, I was very intrigued. Thankfully, it was a wonderful English theme instead of fish. More to the point, this was a wonderful experience. Barbara and David were amazingly kind and friendly. They made us feel like home, and they were also attentive. Not to mention their breakfast is way above par-- fresh ingredients for their pastries, egg dishes, lox, berries and fresh creme, etc. The price was reasonable, especially considering the quality of the home and food. $130/nt for two was very manageable. The two biggest drawbacks were that the room we had, and may explain a slightly lower price, is the lack of AC and room size. It was a touch cramped, but still comfortable. The bottom line: If you're in Chincoteague, stay here and skip the chain hotels/motels. read more

My husband and I recently stayed at the Channel Bass Inn and loved it! The innkeepers are professional, personable, and attentive. We had to leave before breakfast time on our first morning to make a boat tour, and Barbara made us an early breakfast so we could have something to eat before heading out for the day. Later, when she found out we had not been able to get a dinner reservation that we wanted a local restaurant, she called right away and got the reservation for us. Everyone at the Channel Bass Inn really goes above and beyond to make guests feel welcome and comfortable. We weren't able to make it to tea, but everything served at breakfast was delicious! Mask compliance is great at the Inn - all staff and guests wore masks unless they were seated at a table eating or drinking - and Barbara did a great job of spacing the tables in the breakfast/tea room so that guests could talk without being too close. read more

We stayed here on a winter evening when we were the only patrons. Barbara and David, the innkeepers, were extremely gracious and heated up the whole house, just for us. The rooms all looked quite nice, and ours was very comfortable. The house doesn't really have a water view, but it's right along Main Street (which is probably more important during the summer). We chose to stay at the channel bass inn based on great reviews and were not disappointed. Arriving at the inn on a cold and rainy night, we were greeted by a warm fire and cheery conversation with. Without asking for it, we were upgraded to larger room, and Barbara made reservations for us at a nearby restaurant. The room (on the top floor) was beautifully decorated with a comfortable bed. Loved all the books lying around for us to use, and the views of the water. We were equally happy with breakfast. David and Barbara for breakfast on our first morning, and we loved chatting with them about their family, the inn's history, and things to do around town. Upon hearing that I was going to be hosting a bridal shower in the coming months, Barbara even took me to her kitchen to sample some of her delicious cake, offering to share the recipe with me! The food was delicious and presented beautifully! We loved the homemade fruit yogurt with granola, Mexican eggs, homemade breads, French press coffee and wonderful teas. We only wish we could have experienced Barbara's afternoon tea! Barbara and David, thank you so much for making us feel like family. This was our first bed and breakfast experience and set the bar very high for us. We will be back! read more

My husband and I just arrived home from four wonderful days at Channel Bass Inn. Barbara and David are a warm and friendly couple who make it their top priority to insure their guests are comfortable in every way. We had a different breakfast every morning and they were all fantastic; leave your low carb diet behind and enjoy Barbara's baked treats, fruity delights, and tasty eggs! Afternoon tea is a must for the experience and tasty treats; arrive hungry and don't plan on eating again until the next day. Barbara made all of our dinner reservations and made sure we had the best tables. If any of the guests ran into her on the way to an outing shortly after breakfast or tea, she sent them with a bag full of whatever she had left over for them to snack on. My husband and I have only stayed at three BnB's in the USA, but I can't imagine anyone doing a much better job to create a unique and enjoyable experience. Beach cruisers were available for us to bike around town, so we didn't drive anywhere. There's a whole room of beach towels, chairs, sand toys, and umbrellas for guests to borrow. We decided to visit Chincoteague for a couple of days on a whim. My fiancé chose the Channel Bass Inn based on their Yelp reviews and we were not disappointed. This was hands down the best B&B experience I've ever had - all because of our hosts, Barbara and David! They were the most generous, gracious, warm and helpful couple. They upgraded us to a larger room without extra charge because they thought we would be more comfortable when we showed up with our two dogs who were larger than they had expected. They also charged us for one dog instead of two! The room was cozy and simply decorated. The bed was very comfy and bathroom clean. Then there's breakfast...I cannot say enough about how wonderful and tasty they are! Barbara will spoil you with her fresh baked scones and nut breads, fabulous parfaits and savory Mexican eggs or crepes. I would argue that her English-style tea is better than the coffee, but the fresh French press coffee is still pretty amazing. I highly recommend the Channel Bass Inn to anyone looking for a great little getaway. read more
