It was kind of hard to reach them at first since I was trying to get a conversation started on email. I emailed them through the website and they ended up calling back. We played phone tag a few times, I asked them to email me back but they sent me a really brief email and basically said they prefer to talk over the phone. Once I did get on the phone with them, I spoke to Mitch (I believe), who was really nice, explained everything, and was very accommodating. I wanted to book something for a large group, we had a limited amount of time, and the size of the group wasn't finalized. He recommended what would be best for our group and explained I just needed me to confirm the number about a week before the booking since he had to set aside kayaks and make sure we had guides there. He promised an email with a packing list, but didn't send that until I talked to him again a couple weeks later (they're just not big on email I think!). OUR GUIDES: Mark and Marcy were our tour guides. They were really chill and joked around a lot with our group - we had just come from a bit of a boozy brunch and were being kind of silly. They struck a good balance of informing us of safety measures and kayaking tips but having fun with us while going over important information. They were also really great on the water at keeping our group together and going at whatever pace we wanted. My kayak buddy and I got stuck a few times when an unexpected wind caught us and we were kind of cornered between a boat and a pier - Mark would tell us exactly how to paddle and in just 2 or 3 strokes we were out of there and back on track! THE COST: To be honest, they're a little pricey: $65 for a 3-hour tour. It takes about 45 minutes to get set up so you're on the water for 2 hours (which they were completely upfront about). GEAR: On the tour, you go out on fiberglass kayaks, which are more fancy (they have rudders, and you sit *inside* them with skirts covering the top). They go faster and are better against a strong wind than your everyday sit-on-top plastic kayaks. They also provide windjackets, windpants, skirts, and drybags, free of charge. They only have those giant camping drybags though, so if you want to bring your cell phone on the water, they have good quality large ziplocs. You can also leave valuables at their desk, and they have a public shelf for your extra clothes/bags. As a bonus, they also have a bike rack on site - great for those of us who biked there! THE TOUR: The 3-hour Sausalito tour, to be honest, was not too much of a full-fledged "tour", but they showed us a few cool spots including a museum of the history of the waterways of the bay area, the house boats, and just giving us general knowledge of the wildlife and rules on the water, etc. It felt like they kind of ran out of places to take us things to say because we actually looped back to the the beach where we set off from and they asked if we were tired and wanted to go back, but we were fine so they took us further out on an "obstacle course" under a pier - it was interesting, but it seemed like a small extra loop they do to buy time. We formed a "raft" a few times on the water, where we got all of our kayaks parallel and bunched together, put our paddles up, and were able to sail with our paddles! Open during COVID! Great activity for families. We rented two double kayaks with another family. We paddled around Richardson bay for an hour and half, seeing sea lions and the houseboats. Leisurely except Towards the end when the wind was really strong. I appreciate the dock hands - when we got back, they asked about a mom and two young boys. We told them we had seen them and they looked OK but the wind had really picked up. Since it was so super windy they sent out a motor boat to get them. It made me feel good that they were looking out for folks especially us beginners. They also have the system down for COVID. Life jackets and paddles are disinfected after each use and there are hand washing stations everywhere. We would do it again! read more

For some wild reason I expected soft, rolling waves on calm water. Of course, it's open water. I came with a group of friends and it was pretty cheap for two hours on a double 'sit-on-top' kayak: $70 total, so $35 each. Though they offer the use of their life protection vests and such, we all brought our own PFDs (Dragon boat kids, anyone?) One person in our group, who had a lot of experience kayaking, got a single kayak for 2 hours, which was just $40. Really nice views of Richardson Bay, and potential seal encounters, but we came on a day with a somewhat strong current. My friend chose the backseat, so while she steered, I did a lot of paddling... Tiring stuff, really. If you have enough endurance and enough paddling time, try going towards Tiburon or the Golden Gate Bridge! With a waterproofed camera, anything is possible. Parking becomes difficult at times, but the fun of kayaking, combined with excellent staff members, makes this place all the more worthwhile. I highly recommend it! read more

Great boats and people a little hard to find, fascinating paddle area. see the bay, the cool houseboats ( sure is different from the water side). Winds can be strong but nothing threatening, just note you may be sore the next day. My paddling partner wore a wetsuit but I did not, and never felt cold or exposed. Another heads up: use SPF 50. Although cloudy you can/will get burned. Parking and bathrooms provided. Note that there is a nearby launch point if someone from your party has their own boat, as the company will not allow private craft to use their launch point. read more

I bought a used kayak from SeaTrek this year and they have been a pleasure to deal with and I recommend them to everybody I know whether you want a day on the bay or you want to do a serious excursion. My husband and I went out for a guided tour of the bay with Kenny this morning. It ended up just being the 3 of us which was really nice. I love that Sea Trek provided full body wind breakers which helped so much with keeping warm and dry. The highlight of the tour was definitely all the seals. Huge fan! Staff is friendly and nice. And their set-up is very efficient and quick. Large adjacent parking lot with extra overflow parking as well. Kayak launch is from a special stable dock that makes it really safe and easy -- no lugging the kayak anywhere. Really big area available to explore. Lots of birds and harbor seals to see. I have gotten so into kayaking that I signed up for a monthly membership and love all of the perks that come with it: guided tours under the bridge, special skill sessions, and (most especially) the sunrise paddles on Friday mornings. Special shout out to Jules who is in charge of all membership activities. Her energy, enthusiasm and knowledge is inspiring. I started kayaking around the Bay Area during June, and thought that this was a summer-time (or Indian summer) hobby. However, the paddles that I have done in Dec and now Jan have been breathtaking. This review is only to help reduce the frustration of finding Sea Trek. As noted in several other reviews it's a bit of a maze down there and Google doesn't help any by providing directions that while technically correct, don't land you where you need to be in order to park your car. The easiest way to make sure you don't waste time studying maps and figuring out what to do next is to not map Sea Trek but instead map the US Army Corps of Engineers Bay Model Visitor Center, 2100 Bridgeway, Sausalito, CA 94965. In satellite view you'll see a large parking lot end of that little nameless road, that's where you want to go. There is a small parking area behind Sea Trek's building as well but you can get there easily from this parking lot if it's full. I hope this helps some of you yelpers out there. It's a warm beautiful day in SF so my 4 girlfriends decide to cross the bridge to even more warmer beautiful day in Sausalito to try SUP (stand up paddle boarding). 2 of them had done it before but 3 of us had not. I had major anxiety I would fall in the water but didn't care I really wanted to try it. We arrived around 1pm, filled out our paperwork. The sign up booth is located outside the visitors center in the marina. They will store any personal items you may have otherwise I would leave it in your car. Cost is $20 an hour which is plenty of time for a first timer. They also rent single and double kayaks. They fit you with life jackets which you must wear while you are on the docks. Free parking in the lot. Depending on the time of day parking may be limited because this is where they also take off on some pirate ship show. After registering you walk down the plank to the launch. They gave us quick lesson and we were off. The water was beautiful! We saw a bunch of seals hanging out on a dock. And loved to see the amazing yachts going by. It was such a fun experience and a great way to spend a nice warm day. My friends and I had a great time. Oh and I fell in the water :( Didn't care, the water was so refreshing!!! read more

I went kayaking yesterday for the first time in a couple of years and I immediately remembered why I love kayaking in San Francisco so much. It was so nice to get up yesterday morning, head over to Seatrek and be out on the water within 20 minutes. Since I've already taken their rescue classes we were allowed to take out a traditional (closed) kayak and paddle around Richardson Bay unsupervised. If you like seals then this is the activity for you, yesterday they seemed to be super friendly and came to within 10 feet of the kayak. I highly recommend taking the courses offered by Seatrek since they'll help you enjoy your kayaking experience that much more. I also think anyone who can, should go on their trip to Baja Mexico. I went a few years ago and still talk about how incredible an experience it was. The trip involves camping on beaches in the Sea of Cortez for a week. The guides will cook for you and you'll see a ton of marine life, I even had dolphins come up and swim beside me while I was snorkeling. We tried SUP today and well, I got nauseous like heck. I felt like I was fighting the wind for what seemed like forever. After struggling, as i was heading in to return to the dock, poof I went in! Yummy sea water. And then came Steve to the rescue with his boat to save me and the board! Very reassuring and calm! All of their staff members are nice and sweet too. I want to go again!! I must admit that I was scared at first, but the workers here were really helpful. But first, come here early or else you'll have a hard time finding parking! It seems like this is a private area so there is limited public parking. However, Sea Trek was nice enough to pay for half of our parking costs. There is a bathroom nearby and change stalls. Sea Trek provides with a windbreaker jacket and life jacket. Yay for safety and keeping warm! Also, we before we went out onto the water, we were given a mini lesson on how to kayak which was great because I'd forgotten all that stuff from the last time I went. My first experience with them was when I was 11 years old on their Angel Island overnight trip. To paddle across Richardson Bay and glide alongside sailboats and ferries to arrive at a beach only accessible by water was an unforgettable experience as a child. I still have memories of our counselors, nighttime paddle to see the lights of SF, and the sun rising after camping out on Angel Island. It was only a short trip, but Sea Trek turned me on to a sport I've enjoyed to this day. Fast forward over a decade and this is still the same reliable, adventure-loving company it was back then. Now with yoga paddle boarding and sunset paddle boarding tours (which I can't wait to try!). I've come back to paddle with friends throughout the years and recently organized a group trip here for Yelpers. Everyone had a fabulous time with our wonderful guides Bob and Ben, sighting seals and coasting alongside Sausalito's charming waterfront. The Sea Trek staff truly forms the solid foundation that makes it a company you'll love and want to support. Much of the staff (and/or siblings of staff) have been here for years, giving the business a family feel. Went here for an hour of kayaking and had a good time! They tell you where to go depending on the wind and show you how to paddle before you go. I just have one small complaint about the customer service. When my group checked in, we were told to wait around the corner and that someone would get us in fifteen minutes. Well, thirty minutes pass so I check with the desk. Let me add that while we were waiting, the front desk was just sitting there the whole time and didn't say anything until I went up to him. He told us that we were supposed to go straight to the dock! If I never went to ask what was going on, we would've still been waiting by the table. read more

Love them! It's a very quick way to have your kayak/stand up paddle adventure. The renting process is quick, the staff is super nice and Richardson Bay is obviously beautiful! WATCH OUT because they changed location, but google maps will still take you to the older one (the one near GARAGE), they are now half a mile away from it. My boyfriend and I had been looking to purchase a used tandem kayak for while, and after perusing CL, FB marketplace, etc. I had the idea to check kayak rental companies like Sea Trek to see if they sold their old fleet-- and they do! After a week of very responsive email exchanges, we drove up and snagged a red Malibu two XL for a good deal (there are repairs to their older boats but they're professionally done and in places that we won't continue to stress given the way we launch). Steve was knowledgeable, helpful, and really nice. As we were loading the kayak onto our car, the owner, Galen, came by and assisted us tremendously, and gave us a lot of advice on the safe transport of the kayak. He was great, and we really appreciated his help. We took the kayak out on the water immediately at Dougherty park and are taking it out again this morning in Half Moon Bay. We love it! Bummer of an experience. Before kayaking out there, the guides informed us that we would have to make good time to get to the bridge. Fair enough. We started going out there, and they constantly slowed us down, telling us to take breathers, etc. We finally got within eyeshot of the bridge and they said we should turn around. What the heck? We were like probably a ten minute kayak away... So we turned around. Then when we got back, they mentioned how we were 30 minutes early. Go figure! The guides then complimented us and told us how fast we were... Okay.... They spoke to us like how a ski instructor speaks to a 6 year old. Even though we apparently didn't come during very good weather and the wind was blowing pretty strongly, the entire experience was really fun. A great find! My buddy & I wanted a quick trip out on the water. Parking took a little while but there was also event in the lot over which had a lot of people in/out of there. The middle aged lady with brown hair who works at the front check in area is very nasty and rude. The kayaking was fun, but she was not. They also don't stop the timer until you pay, and when we got out of the boat and waited for our friends, they did not stop the timer and charged us for more time. Also, make sure not to go when it isnt windy because we started heading back with more than enough time while it wasn't windy, however the wind picked up a ton and added an additional 45 minutes to our return trip which mind you, was CHARGED. So, our initial 1 hour kayaking trip turned into an almost 2 hour trip (due to wind). Maybe I wouldn't have minded the additional charge if the lady wasn't so rude. read more
