We decided to stop here for lunch on a busy Tuesday afternoon in July. We were pretty hungry after spending the day enjoying the carriage tours and island tour, so we were ready for a good meal! Our group ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich, Derby Burger, and Triple Crown Club, all of which came with a side of chips. The food was tasty, and the service was excellent. Despite it being a busy afternoon, everything went smoothly. If you're hungry and looking for a good lunch spot, definitely give Seabiscuit a try! I knew I wanted to eat whitefish and chips while on Mackinac Island, and the menu at Seabiscuit Cafe sounded pretty good. I was worried there would be a long wait, as it's a small spot, but Nate and I could grab a seat at the bar right away for a late lunch. The bartender was super friendly and we enjoyed chatting with her. I got a featured sangria with pear vodka which was delicious and refreshing. Their taps were out of order, but they have plenty of canned and bottled options. The fish and chips came with two large filets and plenty of fries. I even liked the coleslaw, which I normally don't really love. The batter was a bit thick for my taste but the fish was flaky and not dry. Nate got the waldorf salad, which was huge and had tons of toppings and a nice portion of grilled chicken. The space is quite small so I don't think this place would be great if you have a stroller or anyone in a wheelchair. I'm glad we checked it out and would come back - some of the other dishes I saw coming out of the kitchen looked great, like the fried mac and cheese and the Reuben! read more

One of the only places on the island to get a good vegan meal that isn't a burger of some sort. Wet burrito ftw! Fun horse themed decor (who'd have guessed by the name). Server was on point, refilled my water three times during meal. I ate the whole thing and regret nothing! Cheaper to pay with cash than card, cards get a 3% fee added on. Drinks and dessert was the main focus for a visit to Seabiscuit Cafe. Did I procure any real food at this horse-themed restaurant? Neigh! But they had what I wanted: sugar and alky hall. I just wanted a little (big) glass of red wine and something sweet to cap off the night, and I left satisfied. Key lime pie was the special dessert of the day, so that's what I got. I can't pass up a special dessert that's here today, but might be gone tomorrow. The kitchen didn't just give me a slice of pie: They dusted my plate with powdered sugar in the shape of a horse! It's these little touches that make all the difference, and you can tell that they're not horsing around here. (Or maybe they are?) My glass of Cabernet was great, and I was told that the beer was great, too. They were very busy, considering it was the end of the season. Nevertheless, we got a seat right away, and the service was great. If you visit Seabiscuit Cafe during the evening, you'll see that it's a cozy little spot with dim lighting, where you can relax and have a meal (or just drinks and dessert, like me). read more

Came here back in August during prime tourist season. Attempted to go to Pink Pony Club, but the wait was too long, so decided to stop by here instead. They were able to seat us right away, but wasn't a fan of the seating arrangements: booth seating for eight persons including two seniors with mobility issues. It was especially cold in the corner and the TV was right above us! I kept thinking the TV would come down on us and what a safety risk it was. Also, it was super cold inside especially where we were seated. We asked for some hot water and had to follow up on it since I think our waitress forgot. Seating aside the food was quite good. They have a decent selection of signature cocktails to choose from. Portion sizes were generous and easily shareable between two persons (sensing a trend here in Michigan). I enjoyed the Crab Louie salad and the sweet potato fries. In summary, the seating arrangements could've been better, but the food and drink made up for it. read more

After a long day of travel, my wife and I were starving by the time we got to the Island. Once we got settled in at our bed and breakfast, we decided to grab a bite to eat and found Sea Biscuit was just a short walk away. We headed over and were seated quickly. Katie was our server, she didn't smile much, but she was helpful, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. She gave us a few recommendations, especially when it came to the ciders and entrees. We started with the hot wings, my wife and I are big wing fans, and these didn't disappoint. I really liked that they served as whole wings instead of just flats or drummies. Only thing I'd change is I wish there were four instead of three so it's easier to share evenly. That being said, they were seasoned really well and had just a decent amount of heat. For our entrees, I went with the Creole salmon, and it was great. I'm a huge fan of Creole flavors, and this meal definitely delivered. My wife tried the lobster roll, she thought it was okay, but said it lacked some flavor. Even though that was the case with my Wifes food, we both enjoyed our meals overall. The vibe of the restaurant gave you that warm and cozy feeling, perfect for a date night or a small group get-together. The location was super convenient, the food was good, and the service was also good. If we make it back to the island again, Sea Biscuit will definitely be on our list to revisit. read more

I was so surprised there was no wait for dinner on a Sunday night in late August! We enjoy dining at Seabiscuit on our visits to Mackinac Island. We all ordered the parmesan crusted whitefish with jasmine rice and broccolini, and the portions were so large, w could've ordered two entrees and split between three people. It was ultimately pricey for what was decent but not ah-mazing food. They used to have an appetizer with mini-pasties, but it looks like that's been taken off the menu. Bummer! read more

We had this amazing vegetarian burrito filled with rice and butternut squash for lunch and then came back the next day for the same thing. We sat at the bar and had wonderful service and conversation. The restaurant is nicely decorated in dark wood. It is located in the center of the Main Street. Even the specialty drinks looked good. We had a great dinner here after a few food fails on the island. The Parmesan crusted whitefish was recommended by our server and it did not disappoint! This dark and tiny little hole in the wall really threw me for a loop - I don't know what I was expecting, but this was by far the best meal I enjoyed on my most recent trip! My wife, daughter and I had been eating dessert most of the day (on an island known for fudge, I don't think this is an uncommon experience). Yet, we needed something with some substance - so we got the nachos, which I unfortunately did not photograph as they were truly a sight to behold! Complete with pulled pork, melted cheese, nacho cheese sauce, guacamole, salsa, sour cream, and loads of more toppings, they were some of the best nachos I have ever had in my life. It's only been a few days and I'm already craving them... And then an ice cream sundae. Why? Because when there is an option to order an ice cream sundae with Ryba's fudge covering the top, you do NOT pass up such an opportunity. IT. WAS. AMAZING. Guess what? Food is crazy expensive when you are a tourist on an island! Be prepared for NYC prices.... but at least the food was good, and so was the service. Liked the horse racing theme of the restaurant, not just the decor, but also on the menu. The movie Seabiscuit was playing on a loop on the TV. The Smoked Whitefish Chowder was good and so were our meals. I had the "Triple Crown" (which is a club sandwich) and my wife had the Whitefish and Chips. Everything was fresh and prepared well. There are a lot folks standing outside as there is no interior waiting area. so Just place your name with the host and wait. Our wait was about 10 minutes and looks like some grabbed a seat at the bar rather than waiting for a table. Its not big inside the decor is obviously about the famous race horse Seabiscuit. Once we finally got seated we were able to order and get our food fairly quickly. My other half had the fish and chips and I ordered the pull pork sandwich. Food was good and our waitress was friendly. The only thing we really did not like is the Seabiscuit Cafe did not offer or have a high chair for our little one. Also their restrooms are one person only, and no changing tables for the little ones. So overall, I thought the food was tasty just does not seem to be the most kid friendly since we were not offer a high chair. read more

The Seabiscuit Cafe has excellent food (the whitefish parmesan is fantastic) but can't seem to decide whether it's a sports bar or fine dining experience. The food is among the best we had on the island, and the service is outstanding. Tables are jammed really close together and the music is way too loud for conversation. I know there were other restaurants to eat at but I believe the Seabiscuit Cafe offered the best variety of foods that wasn't just fried goodness. The restaurant, staff and food were amazing. It was cute to see it all decorated after Seabiscuit. they even had the movie playing on repeat in the restaurant But the food was wonderful - unfortunately I can't remember the names of the dishes However, trust us when I say come to this cafe. Seabiscuit Cafe is one of my favorite stops on Mackinac Island. The cheese crock appetizer is always a favorite. I recommend adding extra garlic toasts because they're excellent and you'll get more cheese than you can scoop on the toasts provided. I also shared the lobster roll with a family member and it was quite good and reasonably priced considering the quality and in comparing it with the prices of lobster rolls in the Detroit area. Main St can get noisy and busy but I always find some quiet and comfort in the cozy booths at Seabiscuit Cafe. read more

The waiter/bartender walked away and didn't take our orders when we were ready so we had to wait an extended period to order. The gluten free sandwich costs 4 dollars more yet is half the size as the regular one and they didn't disclose that until after we were handed the bill. read more
