Tried this out on a whim as we headed down 20 to the Coupeville Ferry. Pretty good food, excellent service, and a busy but welcoming dining room. Our group tried out the clam chowder (in a bread bowl of course), a catch of the day crab cake with seasoned fries, and the halibut fish tacos in a soft shell. They were all tasty. I liked the fries a lot. The clam chowder was the best of the three. The tacos needed some more flavor. They aren't bad but not incredible. The salsa was surprising. It looked like a cup of chopped tomatoes but had some hidden flavors in it, not spicy like I prefer but enjoyable. Our servers were excellent. We hardly had to wait and they were very nice. The room is great for conversation and you can watch the food being made if you want. All in all a great stop if you're on the islands out here. read more

I ordered a 32oz chowder, which is 2 of their large bowls. I paid $28 + tax It comes with 4 pcs of bread (2 for each cup). Chowder was delicious, and service was great.....but if you're going to charge that much please fill the cup. I probably won't be there anytime soon. read more

Wow this place was incredible!!! I placed a pickup order for dinner and was really pleased with my order. I ordered the sourdough bread bowl with clam chowder and it was absolutely delicious. It was creamy and salty and chunky with meat and fillings. I loved dipping the sourdough bread in the soup and ate every last bite. My boyfriend got fish and chips and that was incredible as well. Flaky fried, salty and the French fries were amazing! I loved dipping them in the ranch and tartar sauce. We also had a crab cake and Cesar salad and every bit was just so pleasant and flavorful. We came here for a late lunch and got the Valentine's Day special (pomegranate glazed salmon with pickled onions & pomegranate seeds on a bed of spinach with sweet potatoes waffle fries & yogurt dill sauce) and a Charisse's Clam Chowder bread bowl to share. The salmon by itself was a little salty but eaten with the spinach, it was perfect . The waffle fries weren't the hottest but the sweetness of it paired nicely with the yogurt dill sauce. The clam chowder was also delicious with lots of clams and other fillings (很有料）and the soup was creamy and not grainy. The bread bowl paired nicely with the soup. a cute little place we went for the first time in Oak Harbor with friends. After we all read reviews we weren't sure about this place but we gave it a shot. First we looked around to see what a quant place it was . A very friendly welcoming hello from the waitress. We started with a Salmon Pate very good with pita bread and slice oranges. Not overwhelming in taste. Everyone had the fried Cod and fries. Looked really good and crispy and totally not greasy. I ordered a bowl of the clam chowder soup. Omg This was the thickest soup I have ever had so thick my spoon stood straight up in the middle and did not fall over . Also ordered was their onion rings Not greasy at all and you can actually taste the freshness of the onion but not to overwhelming. You can also buy fresh fish and shellfish in the case . Everything is very clean and was not loud. It's a small place but worth going. Prices are not bad at all . Enough fish and fries with coleslaw. Nit like other places with more fries then fish. Delicious!!! 4 of us had lunch here yesterday. We started with the smoked salmon pate which is super delicious! Perfectly smoked salmon spread with crackers and fruit is a must try!! Three of us shared the captains platter. A mixture of fried fish and assorted seafood. This thing is huge! The fish and assorted seafood were coated in a very tasty breading and perfectly fried crunchy and tasty. A must order! My wife had the clam chowder which was so packed with clams and goodies that you could stand a spoon up in it. It was super delicious!! All the food we had here was delicious!! Got the mixed shells which comes with the famous Penn Cove mussels and manila clams in a white wine and butter garlic sauce with two pieces of garlic bread. Was so good and a good amount of seafood. On a Sunday of running errands in Oak, my wife and I wanted a nice lunch. We've driven by often and decided to try. It was pretty empty when we arrived. A lot of staff going between the restaurant and an adjacent processing center with huge windows. Interesting operation. They were almost over the top friendly. Very simple casual dining room that was clean. She ordered the shrimp poorboy and fries. Tasty popcorn shrimp and generous nicely cooked seasoned fries! The sauce was a bit heavy on the sandwich. She loved it but couldn't finish. Like $10.95!!! Bargain by Seattle prices. We got there just after noon on a Sunday with a pretty empty dining room. By the time we left it was packed with a wait starting. We got there at the perfect time but they were turning tables fast by then. I got the cod fish and chips. Awesome! And lots of fries and a little slaw. $16.95. Perfectly fried. Many high end seafood restaurants can't touch this quality of fried fish and price. They obviously know how to operate a fryer at a perfect temp which the nice seafood joints my wife likes can't often do and I get a mushy piece of overpriced fish. They also have a small cash discount which I chose to use with a good tip. Some people on Yelp have complained about this policy and tactic but it's simply a great option provided by a business going some "thinking"! I'd go for this over air miles on my credit cards if this were more available. We will likely stop by in the future if just for a snack on the road or to split a Togo order. Looks like they have a pretty good beer and wine selection too. read more

Sooo... Seabolt is my paternal family name (I only recently found this out)- and as we drove by, I called out the name. Funny enough- the restaurant my son was taking us to was closed on Sunday's, so we ended up here! And I was very happy. Dungeness crab cakes- yes please! John went with cod and chips again and Robert got Halibut fish tacos. Fish Tacos- seasoned perfectly, Robert inhaled the tacos and announced he now had a new place to eat at! (he's stationed in Oak Harbor/Whidbey Island) Cod and Chips- very crunchy breading, we ended up eating the fish out of the breading at the end Crab Cake- hmmmm, I've never had crab cake with dungeness- but it exceeded my expectations!!! Checked out Deception Pass and found Seabolt's Smokehouse on the way to the ferry. Located just off the highway, Seabolt's provides indoor and outdoor seating.   We lucked out with good weather and scored a couple tables outside. Our drinks came quick and we placed our orders soon after. Everything went off without a hitch. Ordered the Mixed shells(mussels & manila clams) with garlic butter and a slice of focaccia bread, Manila clams with garlic butter, Seafood gumbo, Cod fish and chips, bowl of Clam chowder, and the Believer burger. The food came out hot and we all really enjoyed out entrees. You can't go wrong with garlic butter, the fish and chips were crispy and the chili lime tartar sauce is worth taking home(they need to bottle that stuff). Strange little restaurant but we had a great meal. The shrimp and mussels were so fresh.

Small spot with no frills decor, but really delicious food. I got a shrimp packed poboy with a side cup of their chowder! There was no up charge for soup as a side, which was great. The soup was so good I wish I would've gotten a bowl of it. Although I was plenty full from what I did get. All for a little under $12 (tax included) the sauce on the poboy was made in house as well! Our food was great! I wanted to order the crab cake, but they were out of them. It was around 12:30pm on a weekday. I had the popcorn shrimp and chips and my partner had the salmon tacos. They were both tasty. The shrimp and chips were really filling. They also have diet Dr. Pepper, which is rare in restaurants. That was nice because I like having a diet option other than diet Coke. We were seated quickly and got our food quickly. Our server was great and attentive. It was pretty busy during lunch time but never felt overly noisy and our service was still great! read more

Haven't been to a place that serves quite a few meals that I can try, due to being a pescatarian. I already told my daughter I was coming back because I wanted to try so many things. After stalking a few menu items from the parking lot, we took the next step and went in to order. There is indoor and outdoor seating but we decided to order to go. I ordered the Crab cake burger while my daughter ordered the cod and chips. I think she liked it, she offered me a bite, just to forget that she offered me a bite and ate it all up with ease! I burger was fulfilling I reckon, it also came with fries. I drizzled honey mustard on it and it was good!!!!! Not sure what the peach-ish orange-ish dipping sauce was but it was ok, not better than the honey mustard (I think it might've been the seasoned tartar sauce). The food is fantastic. It was served hot and was cooked to perfection. They have an great menu and if someone is allergic to seafood, they do offer chicken, beef, and salad options. The service was fast and attentive. If you order the Captains Platter, be patient. It is well worth the wait. The ambiance was busy (a good sign), and it was nice to see the seafood sales business. This restaurant sells fresh raw or cooked seafood which is processed in their seafood factory adjacent to the restaurant. While visiting my son at NAS Whidby we stopped at Seabolt's for dinner. Upon entering it was fairly croweded but we were greated and seated quickly. The menu is loaded with great seafood choices and there is even a area for selecting fresh seafood to go and prepare at home. They have an open area where the prep and cook the food and it appears tidy and clean. The service was good and the food was delicious. We will definately be back. Was on the island for a weekend trip with sisters. Waited until about 1 hour and 15 mins to get in. Seated with waters and got order taken but after another 15 mins- I realized all the people in line before us were seated but nobody except one family (seated 30 mins before us) were just getting their food. When asked how long it would take to get our food- they sent a server out with one clam chowder. We opted to leave because there was no way of knowing how much longer we would get food as the waitress never came back. Also- given all the other customers empty tables - I imagine we couldn't get our full meals until they all did- with an est of 30-45mins more of a wait. Order to go- or opt for another restaurant if there is a line. Not sure why they couldn't serve food out quickly- maybe too many online orders or they were catering meals on the side? We had an excellent Crab and Shrimp Louis salad and fish and chips. Wow! Probably the best fish and chips ever. The fish was perfect, the breading was flavorful and crisp. the chips were so crispy on the outside, and the spicy chipotle lime tartar sauce made a perfect accompaniment. We are on a 3 week adventure across the northwest states and the one thing I wanted to eat while along the coast was clam chowder. We were staying in Coupeville, so we figured we would eat dinner close to there. We found Seabolt online, and figured we would try it. I can't recommend this place enough! Food is good. Not cheap. But they do have decent portions. For some reason before moving up to the PNW I thought fish would be cheaper. But it's not. Regardless of price, the food is really delicious and despite the price I will be back. Also very friendly. Personally I would love to come here more often but don't because of the oil, please look into SEED OILS and the DAMAGE they cause, dementia, heart and organ damage. The OTHER GOOD OILs are great!! Voted the best seafood on Whidbey Island, we chose Seabolt's for lunch during a day trip to Oak Harbor. There are a number of seafood eateries on the island, so being named the "best" really is high acclaim. They feature several types of seafood and chips, sandwiches, shellfish and chowders / soups. As for a couple specials, they have fish tacos, crab cakes, and even surf & turf for those feeling a little fancy. The friendly staff delivered our order to us in the parking lot and we drove over to nearby Windjammer Park to eat. Two of us split the cod and chips, calamari and chips, plus a bowl of chowder. The pieces of cod were flaky and the calamari strips were tender and meaty. Both were fried to a crispy golden brown and had a light beer-battered coating, served with fries and a small cup of coleslaw. I sadly was not a huge fan of the breading, as it was on the sweeter side, likely from the generous amount of dill in their seasoning mix. While it definitely set their fish apart from other restaurants, the flavor just didn't quite agree with my palette. As a quick tip when ordering, they'll offer a choice between chili lime and original tartar sauce...try the chili! It gave the fish a zesty bite with just a subtle hint of lime. The highlight of our meal was their clam chowder and it's a must-order. Being creamy and loaded with huge clam pieces, potatoes and diced bacon for a little smokiness, this is one of the best chowders I've had. My other lunch mates enjoyed the oysters and chips, crab cake and seafood stew. The oysters were plump and the crab cake was actually filled substantially with meat and minimal fillers. Despite being listed at the market price of $12, the crab cake was worth it. Similarly, the seafood stew contained a ton of fish, mussels and clams in a light tomato-based broth. No shortage of quality ingredients here! While the total of our order summed up to $72, we felt it was fairly average for seafood considering our large order. This local favorite is definitely worth checking out when visiting Oak Harbor. read more

Let me start with the food. It was really good. My wife ordered the Sockeye Salmon Fish Tacos and I got the Sampler & Chips (Cod, halibut & salmon). It was all very tasty and well prepared. I'm giving a low rating for the service we got not the food. I wish Yelp would allow separate ratings for food and service. We also got a side salad and a cup of yummy salmon chowder. We got there there after 4:30 for dinner and it wasn't very busy. But it did get busy as it got closer to 5pm. We asked to sit on the patio but the server told us it was reserved for a large party (that didn't show up in the hour we were there). After our server took our order and gave us our drinks she didn't come back to the table till after we were done eating. I didn't tip her well, they need to train the servers to be more attentive. Granted it did get busy but that is no excuse to ignore a table. After waiting 20 minutes for the soup and salad a flagged down another server and asked about them. He brought them over shortly. (We've had too many experiences where we wait a long time and then the appetizer come out with the food, negating the point of an appetizer.) The ambiance is what I would call fisherman sheik. Lots of pictures of fisherman and their boats and a counter to buy fresh seafood to take home. Yuummmmmm! This place is so dang delish! We started with a piping hot bowl of clam chowder and found it FULL of tasty, smoked clam bits- usually it is lots of potatoes and a tiny piece of clam here and there. The garlic bread is the perfect amount of garlic to butter ratio. Next we ordered the Captain's Platter and were initially wondering if it was going to be enough for two adults and two kiddos to share when we ordered...the four of us couldn't finish it. They brought it to our table right from the fryer and it was all so hot and delicious- a nice mix of fish (cod, halibut, salmon), oysters, prawns, shrimp, calamari, and clams. It was a perfect amount of breading and everything was cooked the right amount- not overdone or soggy. Crunchy, crispy seafood goodness! This was the perfect place to eat lunch with our kids today. They got crayons and a coloring sheet to occupy them while we waited. The food was prompt, they kindly came and checked on us often to see if we needed anything, and everything was really yummy and hot- even on a busy Sunday afternoon. I think I have gotten used to being disappointed and jaded by seafood restaurants on the coast over the years - soggy fish, too cold, bad (long & grumpy) service. This place was NONE of that.
