Krakens Cove is a brand new bar/eatery on Pioneer Way in Oak Harbor. I really like the decor and the ambiance. There is a flat screen TV with external speakers flanking it on a wall with a small, raised stage in front of it. From what I understand it's for Karaoke, but I haven't seen it used for that. There are 10 tables for dining and a bar with 10 barstools. There is a smaller bar with 5 barstools that separate the under-21 area from the over-21 area. The food ranges from burgers to Entres. I apologize for not taking a photo of the menu, but from what I understand, it changes quite often. Today, I enjoyed dining on their S.A.R. Burger with coleslaw. The burger is Angus beef topped with fried calamari, cheddar cheese, swiss cheese, lettuce, onion, and tomato with an aioli sauce. I had a choice of fries, coleslaw, or for an extra fee, chowder. I chose to have the coleslaw. The burger was very juicy and tasty. The fried calamari gave the burger a nice, unique flavor with a hint of the ocean. I guess one could call it a surf and turf burger! Krakens Cove features 5 draft beers and one draft cider. There is also a nice selection of vodka, scotch, whiskey, tequila, and wine. Had their fish and chips for a work function, fellow coworkers had calamari, angus burgers, and lobster melt. Everything we ordered tasted great. My fish and chips were good, the fish was crispy outside and super flakey inside. They were transparent about slow service as they have a small kitchen. Kraken Cove was a great find for a late lunch. Beautiful view of the water, my husband had the fish and chips, which he said were great, and I had the happy hour fish sliders with lime aioli. They were delicious. It has new owners, a husband-and-wife team who are very friendly and gave us recommendations on where to watch the fireworks and find some more good food in town. Amber and her assistant were covering the whole restaurant so tonight our order took a little longer than usual. Calamari was good and my hubby still liked their fish and chips. Clam chowder was a bit bland but I finished it. We could tell the regulars who came in because the owner was very pleased to see them. He never said a word to us though since tonight was only our fourth time dining there. He just walked by us. With guest musician performing tonight, the place was fairly loud considering it is a small venue. read more

Visiting from out of town and came here with family (their Thursday night watering hole) and enjoyed a good meal and some local entertainment, which was very good. I have been to Krakens Cove the last 2 times I have visited Oak Harbor. Growing up, this used to be a total dive bar. The current owners have made tremendous improvements and it is now a pleasant place to go. There is a bar and a dining area. Service was great, menu had lots of options. The food is very good. On the last visit I had a steak sandwich and my husband and brother had hamburger, both said they were really good. they all were served with some of the best French fries I have had in a long time. Both times, I went on a Thursday night and had the pleasure of being entertained with live music by Dana Osborn. What a fantastic and talented musician! He knows sooo many songs by different artists and gladly takes requests. read more

Food was a mixture of steak and seafood. Service was below average. Our mixed shell dish was ok but lacked flavor. Fish and chips was extraordinary. Clam chowder was excellent. Decent beer selection. Some of the dinner orders never arrived so we cannot comment on those. Prices were a bit steep for pub grub. And the atmosphere was dive bar-like and not clean. Service was best described as chaos. First time eating here. We tried once before but it was an hour wait time to get in. The ambiance is pretty cool. Just sat ourselves in the warmest place we could find. The thermostat said 63 degrees F. It was pretty cold. The waitress was really nice but seemed a little unsure of herself. I ordered a meal based on the baked potato that came with it. My wife was going to have that so I ordered some fries on the side. My meal came before the app which was a cup of chowder. The chowder was actually pretty good. We had to wait quite awhile for our food then waited some more because we didn't have any forks or spoons. I was not impressed with the entre at all. The food was cold and kinda just plain. I ordered the steak "medium" and it came well past done. The crab was REALLY cold and didn't taste very fresh. I never did get my salad and the waitress forgot to tell us they didn't have baked potato's so my wife just sat and watched me eat. All in all. Not somewhere she would want to come back. I hoping it's just growing pains and the owners can make a few adjustments. Please update your menu so it's accurate. People need silverware to eat. Location is ideal with gorgeous view. The bar is festive and inviting. Step above a dive bar which I prefer. We were immediately greeted upon entering. We opted to sit towards the front window which was absolutely perfect since it's a sunny clear day. We were super hungry after hiking almost 6 miles around 1160 ft elevation gain. We ordered calamari as our starter. The calamari comes with a bit of coleslaw on the side which was really good. The calamari was spot on. I ordered a Karakens Cove Cheeseburger while my husband ordered a SARS burger. Holy hell it was delicious. The meet was cooked to perfection and was juicy. The sauce is not overwhelming it actually compliments the angus beef, buns were soft while being a bit crunchy on the under side of that makes any sense... all of it was DELICIOUS. We decided to give the new place a try. Drinks were ok tasted a lot like sweet juice or water, the old fashioned my husband order was not like the normal ones and had lots of ice, so we ended our night with some beers instead. Food wasn't what I thought it would be. I Oder the Salmon it was good but the potatoes I would have asked for more veggies instead. My husband ordered a pasta but it was cold, we told our waitress and she offer to take it back so they Can warm it up. My husband said no, we thought maybe they would make him a new one. They had Karaoke night and that was fun we didn't sing but it was nice to see everyone else singing. My daughter and I visited Kraken's Cove for lunch. We have a monthly lunch date. Unfortunately, the older lady who's always there forgot my daughter's order. This lack of service is unacceptable. Maybe it's time for new help. I've been here twice and both times one of our orders was forgotten about. How in the hell does this even happen? Isn't there a pen and paper that they write the order on? How in the hell could they forget my daughter's order the first time and now my order the second time. It was the same lady the older one. Nice place! Not fancy, just nice and comfortable. Has background music, a stage, and an upbeat feel to it. Nice bar too! Happy to see that! Oak Harbor needs more places like this! Waited a long time for this restaurant to open, hoping to finally see some fresh seafood on the menu. I'm not talking fried fish and chips (all too common) but broiled seafood. All they had was a coho salmon entree 8 oz for 29 bucks! The rest were mussels, clams, and fried calamari (appetizers) and Shrimp Scampi, and a Cod burger for seafood entree's. Maybe their menu changes with seasonal choices? There's other entree's on the menu that will be worth trying, but during this visit we tried the Fettuccine Alfredo, which was dry and pasty, not creamy like it should be. Also had the Shrimp Scampi which was pretty good. The prawns were of good size and plentiful in a light cream sauce. The clam chowder was the BEST part of the meal with lots of chopped clams and it was tasty. Most places load up their clam chowder with diced potatoes and bacon as a filler. Kraken's chowder is fresh and has plenty of chopped clams with every spoonful. Thumbs up! The worst part was the service! Soooo slow! Got seated right away and the host/greeter was pleasant, but the server took such a long time in getting over to our table to take our drink and food order. Really slow! Then waiting for the drinks! We thought they forgot about us! The problem? The female bartender (didn't get her name) was handling it all; running the bar, taking orders, serving drinks and food at the tables, bussing the tables, and taking care of the checks! Back and forth running from behind the bar, out to the tables, and back again! Where's the help in this place? They need more servers!! They've only been open for a month, so I'm hoping service will improve! They advertise steak and seafood specialty. Would like to see more CHARBROILED fish options like halibut and and maybe some scallops dishes, and maybe add Chippino? As for steak, they have sirloin and NY strip, but would love to see a 12 or 16 oz. Ribeye steak added to the menu! I think Kraken Cove is a great addition to Oak Harbor. I managed to talk to one of the owners a while back before they opened and I know their intentions and future plans are great! Time will tell. As for good service? First time visiting. First impression was good. Was newly remodeled and setup pretty good. Received two different menus when we were seated. We both chose something off the wrong (lunch) menu; had to reorder. Just wanted a burger, but all they had were some gourmet versions, so I ordered one with calamari on it. It seemed like the closest to a regular burger. It was okay. Only ate half. My date ordered fish and chips with clam chowder. The clam chowder was delicious. Lots of clams! She did not care for the fish. Thought it was too salty. Beer selection was limited, but had the lager and was pretty good. My opinion: if you want to do gourmet takes on regular food, great...at least carry something on the menu that is for the people that do not want that. Just carry a regular burger, for example. Just carry a regular beer on tap. Don't overdo the gourmet stuff and forget about the regular customers. We won't be going back. read more

i've always wanted to try this place out because every time i pass by the establishment it's packed. sad to say, but i tried it out this weekend with my family and was dully disappointed. the seating was awkward. the food was not great at all. i ordered calamari (listed with garlic aioli) but was served with over burnt fries, lettuce with white sauce (??). the fries tasted like smoke and i needed to ask for sides of lemon and for the aioli that came with the dish - it wasn't great. my chicken caesar tasted like a salad bag bought from the grocery store but was sitting out in the sun... soggy with a side of hair. and a grilled chicken that wasn't cooked all the way. i was hoping that my alcoholic beverage would allow me to just enjoy the food but i just left super disappointed. hopefully with time and improvement, this place will get better. read more

My wife and I stopped off at this restaurant after hiking at Deception Pass. After a 5 mile hike it was well worth traveling to for a great meal. The servers were friendly. The vibe was chill, fitting for an island adventure. We had the Calamari, the Clam Chowder, and Burgers. Let me tell you they did not disappoint. Everything we ate was amazing.
